Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger had much to do with Theory of a Deadman's debut. He signed them and coproduced and cowrote 6 of the 10 tracks on the band's debut, so you'd expect the album to possess similar pop-metal sensibilities as his band's recordings. As it happens, TOAD (there's an unfortunate acronym) venture even closer to the pop mainstream. Frontman Tyler Connolly sings like Eddie Vedder and Scott Weiland, but there is no punk ethos, political conviction, or rage here. Connolly's troubles are all with girls, and his band--uninterested in pulverizing or surprising the audience--follows the famous Roxette dictum: "Don't bore us, get to the chorus." Indeed, they follow it so well that the album clocks in at 36 minutes. But, as a modern pop-rock band, they've come up with a well-produced set and Connolly delivers a string of melodies that will appeal to the mainstream millions. "Make Up Your Mind," "Nothing Could Come Between Us," and "Say I'm Sorry" are explosive, while "The Last Song," with its sweeping strings, is epic pop rock. --Dominic Wills

5 out of 5 stars They rock........2007-06-13

When I heard them for the first time it was inside a video game called Indigo Prophecy. And I thought it was nickelback at first but when I saw the name I knew I had to find this album. My favorite tracks is Say Goodbye, Santa Monica and Since you've been gone. This is a CD I recommend to anyone that has the need to jam to some good rock music.

4 out of 5 stars memories.......2007-05-10

I loved this cd as I "grew up" in Calif and it reminds me of much.
Love the words and the music.

5 out of 5 stars Gasoline is HOT!.......2006-11-10

Theory of a Deadman is one of those bands that I hope never gets HUGE! I want them all to myself. Gasoline has songs full of the emotions that we have all felt too often, but never had the balls to show. Thank you to Tyler and the boys for saying the things that we want to, but don't. This CD Rocks!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Best Album Ever.......2006-11-09

From the woods of Vancouver comes Theory of a Deadman. This was their first album which I purchased the day it came out. I still play it often, and the songs do not get old. From the opening track "Invisible Man" to the closing track "Confession", this group blends modern rock with an occasional "southern rock" twist.

Highlights: Make Up Your Mind-nice song about relationships that some of us can relate to
The Last Song-Melodic, slow, cruncy, epic
Invisible Man-fast opener, gets the blood going
Nothing Could Come Between Us-radio friendly, glad it was, may not have found them otherwise.

A nice album to have for fans of modern rock.

When I first heard "No Surprise", I was blown away. What a great song! END OF STORY! The rest of this CD is absolute garbage. These guys sound like EVERY other band out there today.....in a VERY bad way! Nickelback is simply NOT good enough to warrant a clone! The writing is pitiful here, the songs predictable, and the throaty vocals wear you down in about 5 minutes. Download "No Sruprise" and save your money!

The album that made Theory of a Deadman still has a lot of charm and appeal. "Nothing Could Come Between Us" is an absolute masterpiece of modern rock, and the rest of the album is certainly worth hearing.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty good for pop-rock.......2005-11-12

Despite the fact that they've been labelled so many times as "pop-rock" I think that Theory of a Deadman are great and easy to listen to.

5 out of 5 stars Great Album, Great Band!.......2005-08-19

Amazing band... Has a diffrent sound and isn't generic. Tyler Connelly has an oustanding voice!

5 out of 5 stars Better then Nickelback.......2005-03-24

I remember the first time I heard Theory of a Deadman. At first, I thought it was Nickelback but it had a different sound to it. It wasn't Chad Kroeger, but I liked it alot. I got the album when it came out and I absolutly fell in love with this music. The songs just never get boring and I have probably have listened to the album a million times. I can say one thing, that I'm right pumped for Gasoline to come out. I'll be the first in line to pick up another great piece of work. Great Job, Theory of a Deadman!!!

1 out of 5 stars This is simply (as I put it) bare-bone flat Nickelback clone.......2005-02-25

They're worst off than Default and shame on Nickelback for a lackluster release. 'eesh. Better stick with Default's releases and 'back's releases (both classically) for my sake or anyone's sake. Talent's there but where's originality? Pass.

          2 out of 5 stars Nickelback clones.......2004-07-21

i'm sorry. its obvious that these guys have a lot of talent. BUT, their songs make them sound like Nickelback clones. That is actually what I call them, cuz i can never remember their name. anyway. they are good. but they need to find their own direction.

          5 out of 5 stars Suprisingly Great.......2003-11-06

As probably everybody has heard by now, this is the newest band on Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger's new label. Don't let that mislead you though, these guys are not just another Nickelback. Unlike Fred Durst, who signed the grunge-era rip-off band Puddle of Mudd, Mr. Kroeger actually did a decent job here of picking these guys.

This Vancouver-based group have really got something good here. In short, the album kicks-ass.

Although this CD is shorter than I typically would like to see (running only 37 minutes) it is packed with great riffs, catchy tunes, and unique talented vocals.

And as with any band that I really enjoy, there's a solid performance from the rhythm section. Hell, without a good rhythm section, even the most melodic guitaris is doomed, but not to worry, this band has both.

From strong catchy tunes like "Nothing Can Come Between Us" to the hilarious rants of "Confession", this is one of the best albums I've heard in a while, and well worth it's purchase price.

          5 out of 5 stars Maximum power.......2003-08-26

I played that CD at least 300 times since I have it. I thought that Nickelback was a pretty good band... it is. But Theory's music is so much more brillant. It's not just noise, it's a brillant arrangement of powerful rhythms that will supercharge yourself.

I bought 3 CDs. I kept one and gave the 2 others to best friends for their birthday.

Theory is the future. We'll hear about them.
