Customer Reviews:
good memories for me and fun "new" songs for my children.......2007-06-27
We had ordered this for "The Dukes of Hazzard" theme song for our 4yr old and our whole family has fallen in love with the cd. It makes me want to share some of the old fun and simple shows with my children. I forgot about some of those shows. It brings back good memories for my husband and me and the songs are new and exciting for our children. It's a nice change from children's cd's, but our children still think it's fun. The sound quality is good and the songs included on the cd are a great mix. I would definately recommend this one.
memories.......2007-02-22
This cd is excellent it has a lot of very good music and true to the original sound, Am getting a lot of enjoyment, highly recomended
TV Theme Songs.......2007-01-13
This is a great CD for people who watch a lot of TV -especially TV LAND and reruns of old shows when shows had actual theme songs. I took the CD to work and everyone loved trying to figure out what show the songs were from.
TV themes.......2006-07-05
Not all what I expected, not all of the tunes are the original recordings you remember as the TV themes.
Deja Vu.......2006-02-17
Listening to these familiar themes as performed by the original artists certainly brings back wonderful memories! I was particularly pleased, not only with the quality of the pieces, but with the actual performances themselves, just as we remembered them!

Customer Reviews:
Not My Style.......2007-05-11
This CD has a lot of good songs on it, but it just too bland for our taste. We prefer Western music to sound as though genuine cowboys are singing it - not a fancy chorus!
Rockin' Western Collection.......2006-08-28
For anyone who likes movie/tv music from westerns should purchase this CD. What a wonderful collection of both film and tv with great renditions of each piece. I'm about to purchase Vol. 1 to complete my collection.
Hard to Find Great Western Themes .......2006-03-16
This CD has a number of great western themes that are not in some of the standard lists. For example it includes "The Hallejuah Trail", "Blazing Saddles", and "Giant". This CD also has what I consider the true theme of "The Comancheros". I have been disappointed with some other CDs I have purchased listing "The Comancheros" which had a song rather than this theme. Many of the tracks on this two disk CD go beyond the main theme music and are actually suites. The "Big Country" and "How the West Was Won" are just a couple of examples. It may be a little more expense than some CDs, but not bad for a two disk set. I am really happy with my purchase.
Western Music.......2005-07-29
I enjoy this CD. It has many familiar melodies. Good background for reading, nice to listen while driving. It is also the only CD I've ever found that has the great theme from the movie "Giant."
A great follow-up.......2003-08-29
This is the second collection by SilvaScreen, who are also responsible for "The Wild West: The Essential Western Film Music Collection" (see my review). And it's just as good as the first. There are themes in here that everyone will recognize ("Bonanza," "A Fistful of Dollars"), themes that may not be so familiar ("Duel in the Sun," "The Hanging Tree," the lively "Blazing Saddles"), and even themes you may not associate with Westerns at all ("The Friendly Persuasion"). And no duplication either: when this disc includes a piece from one of the same sources covered in its predecessor, it's a different piece. One great treat: the full lyrics to "Gunfight at OK Corral," which I've never heard outside the soundtrack of the movie itself. The arrangement from "Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid" includes not only the familiar song "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head" but an overview of the music--seguing almost seamlessly into Bernstein's magnificent "The Comancheros," a rare find indeed. An expensive item, but if you love Western film music, well worth it.

Album Description
With a fluid integration of drama, comedy, jazz, classical and popular ballads, "On the Town" stands as one of the great innovative works in the history of musical theatre.
Bringing the recording up-to-date with the best that modern recording has to offer, producer John Yap has used the original orchestrations with a full symphony orchestra and an all-star cast drawn from stage, screen and television - including Kim Criswell, Judy Kaye, Gregg Edelman, Tim Flavin, Ethan Freeman, Valerie Masterson and Tinuke Olafimihan.
Customer Reviews:
IT MAY BE "COMPLETE," BUT . . . . . .......2006-07-19
First off: There should be a special award for John Yap, Executive Producer of Jay Productions LTD for giving us "complete" recordings of classic Broadway musicals. Before the advent of the compact disc, musical scores had to be truncated to fit the time constraints of a double-sided LP record. (Record companies believed, and possibly correctly, that record buyers would reject a recording that stretched over four sides.) And prior to the LP, original cast recordings were often limited to 8 or 10 tracks.
All this by way of saying how grateful I am to have all of Bernstein's wonderful score, including dance & incidental music, included on this recording, and, along with Sony's 1960 studio recording, consider it an essential recording.
But it's the 1960 recording that I will keep returning to, even though I admire both Kim Criswell (a fine Reno Sweeney on EMI Classic's ANYTHING GOES) & the incredible Judy Kaye. Their performances just can't measure up to Nancy Walker's "Hildy" & Betty Comden's "Claire DeLoone." And Ethan Freeman pales next to John Reardon's gorgeous, classically-trained dramatic baritone. Having Leonard Bernstein, himself, conducting doesn't hurt either.
Even though I consider this recording essential to your library (okay, at least to my library), I'm sorry that I can't rate it any higher because of the superior, vastly more exiting, Sony recording.
(I'm just beginning to collect the Jay "complete" recordings, and I assure you that some of them are truly fine. Good work, Mr. Yap.)
great cd.......2003-06-30
this show is amazing......my advice is to buy the cd.....it is well worth the money!!!! u'll love it too!!
A superb recording of this great score.......2000-04-13
"On the Town" has one of the greatest scores of any American musical. Of the three currently available, this can stand on an equal level with the great 1960 recording conducted by Bernstein and featuring most of the original principals, and a bit ahead of the Michael Tilson Thomas recording. This recording does suffer a bit from the fact that most of the singers have never played their roles on stage, but they are all such good theatre singers that they make up for it. And although occasionally John Owen Edwards's tempi choices are just too slow, for the most part his slowish tempi pay off. The ballet music, in particular, has perhaps never been recorded so powerfully. This recording captures the sadness underlying the piece far more than the other recordings do. The Bernstein recording may be first choice in many ways, but in the end I have to say I like this one rather more. And it's nice to have every bit of music that was included in the original production, especially the beautiful entr'acte, although the Tilson Thomas recording contains more of the music that was cut from the original production than this recording does.
A poor imitation of the original recording.......2000-01-01
Most people know On the Town only from the extremely silly movie version, which eliminated virtually all of Leonard Bernstein's amazing work (Harold Clurman, of all people, said that Bernstein's score "IS music.") These people do not know what they are missing - there are few musicals in the annals of the theater with better scores than this one. And this is NOT the CD to buy if you want to hear it. Every song is in some way mishandled, with poor acting, far-too-slow tempos, and annoying vamps. If you really want to hear this score, get the one made with (most of) the original cast; Comden and Green, the fantastic Nancy Walker (a show all by herself), and the whole company are wonderful, as is the music - you actually feel the excitement intended! This recording was utterly pointless; such studio albums should only be done of shows with flawed or absent originals, and not mislead people into thinking that truly great recordings somehow weren't good enough.
A great recording of a great show.......1999-09-24
Although not nearly as well known as much of his later work, this is early Leonard Bernstein at his best. I think (I'm not positive) that this was a revival rather than truly the original cast, but in any event if you know the show you won't be disapointed by this cast and treatment, and if you don't know the show you're in a for a treat. A lot of great songs, almost all of which are done very well. It sounds like it either is or is nearly out of print, so don't wait.

THIS CD IS A MUST!!!.......2007-05-28
I PAID A LOT FOR THE MOFI VERSION BUT IT WAS WORTH IT. IF YOU LIKE THE KINKY BLUES ROCK OF ALVIN AND THE BOYS YOU SHOULD HAVE THIS.
Ten Years After - Ssssh.......2000-03-29
Besides TYA's first album recorded in 1967, Sssh would have to be one of their best albums. Alvin's talent shows through to the max.
A classic guitar swirl surrounded by smooth rock........1999-08-23
These albums are a must. To summarise English rock then you have to obtain these albums. The guitar swirls, fast solos, breath taking licks quickly followed by the sky line screaching wah wah slides, all underlinned by the professional Hammond, flowing bass and tight drums. This Uk outfit choose classics riffs and strong song writing to unleash a classic 60's / 70's sound. Very cool indeed. Oh by the way I was told by the keybordist that Cricklewood Green was the Grass there Rodie Grew in London, there should be a picture on the back.
As fresh a sound now as it was then........1998-12-19
This combo release of what are 2 of the best albums this band produced is a joy to the ears. You can almost see Alvin Lee dripping his sweat like he used to in his concerts. He is one remarkable guitar player. Shhhh is really grabs you and takes you for a fast ride. Cricklewood Green is such a mixture of sounds that the album has to be heard to be believed. Rock music was transforming itself in 1969-70 and this CD reveals its many faces. Green sounds like the Stones, the Guess Who, Hendrix and Creedence all rolled into one. A true GEM!

Excellent Dancehall CD.......2004-02-01
If you like or even heard Chaka Demus & Pliers "Tease Me" "Murder She Wrote" you'll enjoy Brain & Tony. I first heard them on a Reggae Dancehall compilation called Reggae Dancehall Stylee vol.1. "This Feeling Inside" will test the limits of your woofers and is a great tune. Unfortunately, that track can't be found on the Green Light album, but many other tracks fall along the same line. Brian & Tony do a great version of "Poison" originally by BellBivDevoe. I would recommend this CD to anyone who wants to break away from the pop crowd and also to listeners of Shaggy or Beanie Man.

Good Vibes.......2005-10-08
Third World took the time to make this album to show what is really happening today. It gives the big picture on how the world today is very corrupted and how love can conquer violence. I strongly reccommend this album to the true reggae listeners. Jah, Jah children dem a moving up...smile.

I have heard many Third World 'long time' proponents wonder when something fresh was going to touch 'pon the road - here it is
one of their best.......2005-08-09
After 30+ years this group is still creating great albums. This album includes some terrific covers of Bruce Cockburn,Junior Byles and Ashford& Simpson plus some self penned gems,of which Black Gold and Green is the best. This CD has not left my changer since it arrived.

Customer Reviews:
An interpreter's magic that is spell-binding........2001-04-13
Here is a welcome to a "Nostalgia" series by Naxos, and a welcome into the 21st Century to the great Irish tenor John McCormack. Younger shoppers may not be familiar with this remarkable singer who once rivalled Caruso in the recording popularity stakes. Blessed with the naturally beautiful voice and the secure breath control that any singer might envy, McCormack had the additional ability to communicate directly and memorably and vividly. He polished and perfected his inimitably Irish diction until he felt confident that every listener in the largest auditorium could hear and understand every word. Feeling he had no flair for foreign languages or for acting, he retired early from the operatic stage, but not before he had made recordings of several Mozart and Handel arias that have remained models ever since. Some of his recordings of lieder by Hugo Wolf, moreover, can still send shivers down the spine.
This CD of "Favourites" provides songs he recorded between 1912 and 1940. The sentiments may be passé (patriotism, nostalgia, piety, the praise of women and the sorrow of parting) but the sincerity and charm transcend fashion. There is also an interpreter's magic evident in the dramatic monologue "Kathleeen Mavourneen" and the jaunty recounting of what happened in "The Garden Where the Praties Grow" that is spell-binding.
