There's more of producer Bob Rock (AC/DC) here than the feisty band that recorded Seether two years previously. That's a good thing on the single "Volcano Girls," complete with its squealing guitars and "I Am the Walrus" nod. Titles like "With David Bowie" and "Venus Man Trap" are the best thing about the rest of a rather one-dimensional package. --Jeff Bateman

This was a great record. Even better than the first record that was also quite good but simply better than the EP "blow it out". This is really exciting pop-punk with beautiful female harmonies.

1 out of 5 stars One hit wonder worth one star.......2006-09-18

C'mon! I was struck with terror when I saw all the good reviews on this one. At it's best this is a mediocre album. My copy of the album hasn't seen daylight, nor laserlight for a good ten years, but since I'm in the process of burning my CD's to my Itunes catalogue I gave "Eight Arms To Hold You" another chance. After having heard the entire CD again - almost ten years after, my conclusion is the same as when I bought back in 1997!! One star for the catchy power rock hit "Volcano Girls" with a nice touch of the Bob Rock sound and production. Why Veruca Salt sounds like a high school band on the rest of the album is beyond me.

5 out of 5 stars "My heart skips around when i hear the sound...".......2006-04-26

This is my favorite album by Veruca Salt. Eight arms to hold you is a staple in female/male rock music. Louise Post and Nina Gordon were at their best both vocally and musically on this record. Post's songs include:Venus Man Trap, The Sound of the Bell, Shutterbug, One Last Time, Straight, and Don't Make me Prove it. The best song from her creation is Shutterbug with lyrics like:"It's freezing in Bristol, there's love on the telly, a girl grinning at me, she's doing the shimmy..." Gordon's songs include: Volcano Girls, Loneliness is Worse, Earthcrosser, The Morning Sad, Benjamin, With David Bowie, Awesome, and Stoneface. Her best song is a toss-up between Loneliness is Worse:"Dont you wanna be happy with me, if you don't come around soon I'll turn sadder than you ever were..." and Benjamin,"When you were falling from my tree i was not scared, I thought you'd meet me back up there, it never dawned on my you were home-free..." Eight Arms to hold you is a great and rip-roaring fun time. Just listen to the way Nina Gordon holds the the note: "Where's my lip glossssssss.....!" it will blow you away. I miss this band dearly, also check-out Nina's solo record Tonight and the rest of my life and Salt's first record American Thighs.

5 out of 5 stars what a moron.......2006-03-22

the editorial review on this album is ridiculous. the way that veruca salt managed to seamlessly work out a 14 song album that frequently flops back and forth between arena rock and power pop and have it be one coherent and beautiful collection of music that addresses a variety of topics is anything but "one dimensional." people who don't like music shouldn't review music.

5 out of 5 stars WOW!.......2005-10-23

If you like awesome music I suggest you buy this cd. I listen to it unstop. It's addicting

5 out of 5 stars Veruca Salt is bitchin.......2000-07-08

I found Veruca Salt's album "Eight Arms to Hold You" to be one of the very best albums that I own. It's exciting and full of energy, yet it has the rich level of depth and self-questioning that we've come to expect from such great artists as Louise Post and Nina Gordon. I'm a huge "girl band" fan. I also own "Resolver" which I would recomend if you like alot of diversity from song to song and if you like music that carries deep, sad undertones with spurts of rage. Also, I would like to add that Louise Post IS NOT a bassist; she plays lead.

I agree with NinaSardines' review. I bought Veruca Salt's first CD, "American Thighs", after seeing them in concert with Filter this year (2000). Both bands are excellent live!

I'd only breifly heard Veruca Salt before this. Both CDs are well worth your money. "Eight Arms" is much heavier. And yes, there is a new CD scheduled for release in May, I'll buy that too.

The new bass player rocks, of course Louise's guitar playing is still "par excellence". Enjoy the music and see them if you get the opportunity.

P.S. Filter's "Title of Record" is worth your time and money also.

Ok. First of all I'd like to point out to whoever did the first review, Louise Post is (was) not the bassist for Veruca Salt! She was the lead guitarist. Steve Lack played bass. Ok, now that that is cleared up. Veruca Salt was an awesome awesome band from Chicago. With two female lead singers, Nina Gordon, and Louise Post. Louise as I said played lead guitar, and Nina played rhythm. They started out with with Nina's brother, Jim as their drummer, as a temporary thing, then he left after American Thighs (their first phenomenal CD) and Stacey Jones replaced him (from Letters To Cleo). Alright. So Veruca Salt on this album was prettie heavy. Starts off with "Straight" which is, then to popular "Volcano Girls." There is one acoustic song, "Benjamin." It's beautiful. Basically it's American Thighs, turned up like 10 notches, with light spots, plus some cow bells and other fun percussion stuff. Seriously, you'll love it. GET IT! And if you don't have American Thighs get that too. By the way, Veruca Salt broke up in mid '98. Nina Gordon left, then everyone else did. But Louise Post continued to use the name and got new people to join, and the new Veruca Salt is coming out with a CD in May-ish, I believe. Oh and Nina too, she's gone solo, just her. So continue supporting them, please! It's totally worth it. Oh yeah, and if you like VS then you'll like artists like Juliana Hatfield, The Breeders, Hole...etc

    I love Veruca Salt

    5 out of 5 stars TRUTH!.......2000-02-18

Ive been a fan of Veruca Salt sence the first song I heard from them which was "All Hail Me". There music is from the heart and gets into you it can inspire or leave you with a motive to try. Louise post the bassest is one of the best bass players I have ever heard and inspired me to play, she also is the singer now that Nina is solo. The first album American Thighs is really a great album and the second album Eight Arms To Hold You is even better. This album has diversity, emotion, and power in its cord beats and lirics. I recomend you buy this unbelievable album and add it to a collection that just isnt complete with out it. Veruca Salt ROCKS!

    5 out of 5 stars Awesome!.......1999-10-17

This is the coolest cd I own. I wish that they would continue to make music, but they supposedly broke up-Boo-Hoo! :-( Anyway, I recommend this album to EVERYONE.
