Here's where Stephen Stills and Neil Young's on-and-off partnership fell apart for the first time. The liner notes to BS's debut album had announced, "Steve is the leader, but we all are" and described Neil Young as "hot and cold," which in retrospect seems like a warning. Young appears to have at least one foot out the door already, the ambitious "Broken Arrow" and "Expecting to Fly" clearly pointing toward a solo career. And for all the timeless excellence of Young's "Mr. Soul," it's Stills's "Bluebird" that defines Buffalo Springfield Again, much as his "For What It's Worth" defined its predecessor. In one song, the group demonstrates astonishing versatility (from rock to folk to bluegrass), without the saccharine touches that mar Stills's post-Springfield work. But for all their considerable recorded achievements, Buffalo Springfield always felt like a band that never reached its potential. --David Wolf

5 out of 5 stars Just about perfect.......2007-07-15

This album is worth every cent. The songwriting, arrangements, vocals, playing, production.....all just superb.
It's too bad all of the members of Buffalo Springfield didn't put their next respecitve projects on hold to make
a few more records. While this album only clocks in at 34 minutes it's not fair to compare this to other masterpieces from the 60's, but if it had been another 10 minutes on the level of the rest of what's here, it would be right up there with Sgt. Peppers, Pet Sounds, or Blonde on Blonde......this is really that good.

4 out of 5 stars Buffalo Springfield Again or for the first time in your collection!.......2007-06-03

As the author of the Jefferson Airplane book "Take Me To A Circus Tent" I am frequently asked to write reviews and discuss 60's and 70's rock recordings.

"Buffalo Springfield Again" took elements of folk, rock, and country, placed them in the blender and saw prodigious results.

Anybody not sure of this can ask the music community what they thought of the release. The progressive rock band "Yes" does an incredible version of "Everydays" on their second album "Time And A Word."

The lyrics to "Mr. Soul" are so spectacular that you may not make it through the song without playing it over. As the guitar pays homage to the Stones "Satisfaction" the lyrics will floor you.

The diversity shown in tracks such as "Expecting To Fly", "Bluebird", "Rock & Roll Woman", and "Broken Arrow" will satisfy any fan of the great era of rock and roll.

Buffalo Springfield seemed to get the accolades years after the break-up and while it should have come from day one, it does solidify the timelessness of their sounds.

Enjoy the disc and be well,
Craig Fenton

5 out of 5 stars one of the great albums of the 1960's.......2007-03-21

bookended by a pair of neil young classics ("mr soul" and "broken arrow"), this is a stunning album, one of the very best that was american made in the 60's. this is such an ambitious piece of work. there is country-rock (a child's claim to fame), jazz-tinges (on "everydays"), a gorgeous ballad with heavenly strings (expecting to fly), and soul music with horns & all (good time boy). "bluebird" is one of the strongest melodies here, with great electric & acoustic guitar workouts and some banjo picking that takes the song on out. "rock & roll woman" is also a fabulous melody with electric & acoustic guitar textures. catchy harmonies too. "hung upside down" sports more great electric guitar work, and is a fine stephen stills composition. it is the closing track "broken arrow," however, that is the real highwire act of a song here. six minutes and thirteen seconds of supreme musical ambition that works wonders. the song is a great neil young vocal with a fantastic arrangement of strings with circus sounds and jazz touches included. one of my favorite song compositions of the 60's. the whole album is magic. everyone should have a copy of this masterpiece.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Remaster.......2007-03-17

It is not advertised much, but look for this CD as a remaster - the sound is much improved and excellent. The back of the CD states HDCD and "Remastered from Original Source Tapes" Its still 9.99, so either get this new or used from a seller that assures it is the remastered version. This has some of Neil's best songs and with one exception, all the tracks are excellent.

Why did you guys break up!? And don't give me that Yoko Ono lala. Although maybe that Eastman chick had something to do with it. No, wait. Wrong band. You guys were almost as good, tho.
