"I know you think you know me better than that," sneers Oscar-nominated actress Juliette Lewis on the title track of her band's debut album, and I guess we did. For while the charismatic star of Cape Fear and What's Eating Gilbert Grape has often revealed a smidgen of unconventionality (coupled with aspirations to start a rock band), this vigorous cache of defiance-spewed punk rockers and memorable ballads comes from way back in left field. The simple comparisons have Lewis handpicking eccentricities from P.J. Harvey and sporting the brawling passion of Patti Smith. But a more suitable parallel for her aching octave assault is the late Mia Zapata (from Seattle's Gits), most notably on the sultry "This I Know" and 100 mph heartbreakers "So Amazing" and "Money in My Pocket." Sure, she has a ways to go to catch Harvey and Smith, but compared to rocking Hollywood comrades Minnie Driver and Keanu Reeves, Juliette & the Licks' foray into rock and roll is a natural born killer. --Scott Holter

4 out of 5 stars Licking it up.......2005-11-09

To be honest, I prefer "Like a Bolt of Lightning" to this one, but this is an excellent album! I really took a liking to a few of the tracks, and play those all the time, because I gotta hear 'em again! I look forward to the next album, I'll be the first in line.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome for any rock-n-roll fan!!!.......2005-10-07

I was a little sceptical at first. I love Juliette Lewis' acting but I wasn't sure she'd have a voice, let alone any musical talent. Was I ever wrong. I love every song on the album. The sneering lyrics, and the hard beats really drive this record to the top. I haven't seen the band live as of yet, but when I finally get a chance, I can only assume it will be an awesome experience. Everyone should buy this record. This is no Ashlee Simpson!!! It's reall music!

5 out of 5 stars She's still kickin'!.......2005-09-30

Yet again another fantastic album from Juliette Lewis. Music like this is just too good to miss out on!

3 out of 5 stars Juliette and the licks - You're speaking my language.......2005-09-29

Plenty of good songs on the album but falls short of quality, because their relatively new its not to bad. Listen to it before you buy.

5 out of 5 stars I'd give it 10 stars if I could..........2005-09-01

WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW. thats all I can say about this album. It truly is amazing. Juliette Lewis does a phenomenal job as lead singer of Juliette & the Licks. She's not only a great 'Natural Born' actress, but also..a musician/singer.

If you're into rock music at all(even indie as well)..then get this CD. You won't be sorry. It's one of the best female fronted bands I've ever heard my entire life. I could break down this review about give a description of every song on the album, but there is only one thing to say..EVERY song on the album is great. In the past few years, this has been one of the few cds I could listen to all the way through and not ever skip ANY song. GET THIS CD ASAP!
