Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous for any Broadway-lover.......2007-01-30

Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

5 out of 5 stars Top Shelf.......2007-01-04

This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars TERRIFIC CD'S.......2006-03-23

THESE BROADWAY MUSICALS CD'S ARE A BROADWAY LOVERS DREAM. WITH EACH SONG, MEMORIES COME FLOODING BACK. BOTH THE FAMILIAR AND THE FORGOTTEN SONGS ARE A TRUE LISTENING PLEASURE. IF YOU LIKE BROADWAY, YOU'LL LOVE THIS SET.

5 out of 5 stars Great Collection of Broadways greatest Songs .......2005-06-14

This Collection was perfectly made it has almost all the most famous Broadway songs on this 5 cd set. The Music is great and has Broadways greatest treasures like "Memory""People""With One Look""Give my regards Too Broadway" just to name a few of this numerous cd set with over 100 songs. This is a great buy if you like musicals or The music of Broadway

5 out of 5 stars Great Compilation!.......2005-01-17

If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

5 out of 5 stars The Better of the two.......2006-06-03

I have both disc in the series. I liked the music on this disc much more than the first. The selections seem more focused and the sounds are much clearer. Also, the particular pieces fit better together. I love the sound of this group and hope they make more in the future.

3 out of 5 stars Not as good as version 1 in this series.......2004-09-03

This is by the same group who did the wonderful & engaging Early American Choral Music 1. Somehow this CD did not live up to its predecessor in some ways. The performance is still top notch, but somehow the CD as a whole isn't quite as engaging to listen to as the first. Perhaps version 2's strength is also its weakness. Its diversity of composers allows you to pear past the shadow of William Billings and sample other notable early American hymn writers. That exposure is valuable & appreciated. I just couldn't get into it as much.

A final note: many of the texts are beautiful (and available from the publisher's web site). However, I would criticize "Who is this that cometh from Edom?" as dwelling just a bit too much on the Jews' rejection of Jesus. Among other reasons & issues, Christianity says that we are all sinners & there is no cause to single a particular group out negatively.

4 out of 5 stars Same as 'Goostly Psalmes: Anglo-American Psalmody 1550-1800'.......2004-02-21

Please note this CD is a duplicate of His Majestie's Clerkes's "Goostly Psalmes: Anglo-American Psalmody 1550-1800" -- identical contents but a different name and cover. I ordered both and was irritated to discover this. This CD is cheaper, so I recommend this one. It is a lovely choral work from a little-known period of sacred music.

Soundtrack buffs may know that this score to director Bertrand Tavernier's alluring jazz period piece inexplicably won the 1986 Oscar for best soundtrack instead of Morricone and his rich, enduring music for The Mission. That injustice aside, it remains a worthy collage of vintage jazz standards, new material, and contemporary performers, as filtered through the spirit of the story's main character (an amalgam of Bud Powell and Lester Young) and the '50s Paris jazz scene. It's also a tribute to Round Midnight musical director Herbie Hancock, with his crucial understanding that jazz--and especially bebop--can never stand on tradition, lest it lose its very reason for being. Thus he lets then-newcomer Bobby McFerrin loose on Monk's moody title track, gives vet Chet Baker's horn and voice a warm turn in the spotlight on "Fair Weather," and allows Lonette McKee and star Dexter Gordon to infuse Gershwin's "How Long Has This Been Going On" with some languorous, subtly sexual heat. Other highlights include a romp through Monk's "Rhythm-a-Ning," Hancock's tense, modernist "Berangere's Nightmare," and the spare, enchanting duet with Bobby Hutcherson, "Minuit aux Champs-Elysees." Remarkably, most of the film's music was recorded live on the set, giving it a compelling warmth and immediacy that's increasingly rare. This new edition features expanded liner notes as well as a bonus cut of the title track performed by Dexter Gordon's quintet live at the Village Vanguard in 1967. --Jerry McCulley

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars In the still of the night.......2006-11-10

Amazingly good! Whether you're chating, reading your favorite writer, making love or just spending some time for yourself, this music will overwhelm you.

5 out of 5 stars A great jazz score.......2006-07-01

I'm not so keen on jazz music; however, I must say that this album is excellent, probably the second best of its kind after the all-time classic soundtrack for "Ascenseur Pour L'Echauffaud" ("Elevator to the Gallows"), one of the masterpieces by Louis Malle. The music here is certainly high class material: atmospheric, suggestive and wonderfully interpreted. If you're a jazz buff and haven't heard it yet, be sure that you've missed half of your life, so GET IT RIGHT AWAY!

5 out of 5 stars This album is the best!!!!!.......2006-06-15

I've never seen the movie and really, I don't have to. I love this album. I thought that it was very nicely done and it is so perfect. But really, it was the song "Round Midnight" with Bobby McFerrin that caught my ear. Listening to him singing that muted trumpet is sooo heavenly. So, I had to find this album if only to hear this song. It was a real treat that I got the other songs as well. "Fair Weather" by Chet Baker is another favorite of mine. I would urge any jazz lover to pick this album up. I guarantee you that you will not be disappointed.

4 out of 5 stars JAZZ ROUND MIDNIGHT: A SOUNDTRACK.......2005-05-26

This is an Original Motion Picture Soundtrack CD. The DVD of the movie is available but I would start here first. Maybe because one doesn't need to have the story told to you on wide screen and dolby sound. This CD is "intimate". Like the "Blue Note" it resonates lonesome nights in distant foreign places where the echo of the night is in Dexter Gordon's lingering Sax wail. Then perhaps none of that is important. Perhaps it's the compilation of so many jazz voices all in this one CD. While making this movie, Warner Bro could have bought rights to the Blue Note records as background. But it was important to give a fresh sound to the challenge of making a film about jazz. Warners turned to Herbie Hancock to develop the music background and Dexter Gordon to write compositions for the film. They did so beautifully without loosing the essential flavor or sense of place and time depicted in the film: Paris and the Fifties. If your interest is to develop or explore jazz music from the early 50s, here's your opportunity. Central to the background are musicians of the caliber of Chet Baker, Ron Carter, Billy Higgins, Freddie Hubbard, Bobby Hucherson, Bobby McFerrin, Lonette McKee, John McLaughlin, Pierre Michelot, Wayne Shorter, Cedar Walton, and Tony Williams. You can rent or buy the DVD. This CD will help you soak up that atmosphere now lost from places like the "Blue Note". In this CD you will hear the echo of the strains of 50s jazz normally heard "back then and round midnight". Listen to "How Long Has This Been Going On?" and "Una Noche Con Francis" and your heart will be lost. ps: I have the original vinyl LP version of "Round Midnight" and somehow, scratches and all, it's almost better heard this way.

5 out of 5 stars A great soundtrack.......2005-03-28

This soundtrack is an attempt by Herbie Hancock and his line-up of excellent jazz performers to evoke the jazz scene of Paris in the 50s. I have no way to judge how successful they were since I wasn't conceived until '63 and have never been to France, but I can and will testify that they have produced an enduring recording that I have never tired of in the many years that I have been listening to it. Bobby McFerrin demonstrates that he is much more than "Don't Worry Be Happy" as he does an amazing job of evoking a horn with his voice on the title track. "Chan's Song" and "How Long Has This Been Going On?" also leap to mind, but there really isn't a single clinker in the bunch.

4 out of 5 stars Great, but no prize.......2002-03-31

The selections from the Ring trilogy, Friends in need and Fallen Angel were excellent, however, some of the special request such as joxer the mighty, seemed a little bit rushed. Wasn't that song on Volume 2 already? Where was M'Lila's song from Destiny, or the music played During the first Kiss in "The Quest"
The cd has its good points, personally "It's Over" from "THAB" with its haunting melodies portraying the consequences of war.

5 out of 5 stars Xena;Warrior Princess volume six.......2002-01-09

I am so happy that the last and final cd has come out, now my collection is complete. I am very sad for the show ending, but I am glad to still collect things.

5 out of 5 stars Great Collection.......2001-12-25

Well, I have them all by now, but this last one is a great collection, with the added bonus of the music from A Friend In Need.
Just another fine addition to my Xena collection!

5 out of 5 stars Exceptional.......2001-11-30

I am a fanatic and devoted Xenite.I have a huge problem:i can't stop listening to that cd,since the first time i listened to it,which means 1 month! That cd is really exceptional and i think that every true and genuine Xenite should buy it!It's really good!I was moved when i heard the Fallen Angel part.I was passioned when i heard the Ring Trilogy!I was astonishing when i heard the bonus cues that were included, especially the cue from The Quill Is Mightier(fishin part),oh,i was completely satisfied!
Though, there is a complain:i can't understand, why after 6 cd's,the producers don't do a cd including cues like:M'laila's song, the cues from the Bacchaen festival, music from Deja Vou All Over Again, where in the end,Gabrielle says to Xena those wonderful words,or even the scene of the kiss in The Quest! That,i can't understand it!
Last, i believe that whoever likes LoDuca's music style, should buy this cd.
Pay attention to the 22 cue:Pas De Deux Femmes. It is one of a something and whoever remembers what's the scene of this song, will agree with me!Mmmm!

4 out of 5 stars A MIX OF THE BEST, THE WORST AND THE MISSING.......2001-11-29

To all truly Xena fans this CD is a must-have but have some lacks... Fun (comedy episodes music) scores destroy the the great combination of FALLEN ANGEL, THE RHEINGOLD TRILOGY AND I FRIEND IN NEED. In the first selections LoDuca creates spectacular high level music good enough to be played in a Symphony orchestra concert. The others selections have easy-to-fill-space western cowboy music instead of put M'Lilas song of DESTINY, Amazon's climbing trees of ADVENTURES IN THE SIN TRADE and NAJARA vs XENA music that would be gladly accepted by us. I doubt the company will launch a next CD but if they'll do this track and another valuable more must be there and the adittion of some famous characters quotes like "I have many skills" from Xena.

Loudly hailed as the former Minnesotan's return to rock form since 2002's flawed but interesting electronic outing Modulate, Body of Song, is a surprisingly enjoyable record that mixes and matches swaths of sound from the last twenty years of the burly dude's career. As a solo artist, his songs tend to be anthemettes loaded with deep personal feelings and sung in that trademark roller coaster caterwaul that defined his two rock bands, Hüsker Dü and Sugar. More than anything, Bob Mould has always made honest records that ask the listener to ditch past expectations. There are some great, rousing songs on here; "Circles" and "Missing You" will please any rocker in need of sheets of loud guitars. Unfortunately, the two most `clubby' tracks on here, "(Shine Your) Light Love Hope" and "I Am Vision, I Am Sound," rely on very dated dance-pop sounds such as vocoder'd vocals and cheesy programming. The album's most interesting songs are those that truly mix the electronic and rock elements; the slowly percolating, highly textured "Always Tomorrow"and the rousing single "Paralyzed." More like these next time, please. -Mike McGonigal

5 out of 5 stars Perhaps Bob's best album.......2007-03-12

This is really good stuff. I usually do not prefer rock music that includes electronic synthesizers, but they are used so skillfully here that they actually enhance the songs. And of course there always guitars. Very catchy stuff if you like pop-punk, but not juvenile stuff like Offspring and Green Day.
One nice thing about this record is that the vocals are not buried under all the guitar sounds like they are in some songs on the other records.

5 out of 5 stars MOULD IS MAGIC!!.......2006-08-18

Bob Mould is one of the most talented singer songwriter/Guitarists EVER! He really pours out his every essence of his soul. You can hear his heart in every song!
'Body Of Song' is a mind blowing album. The production makes me sweat! It is so clear and pristine, yet there is so much going on underneath...swirling, moving about. This album has him cranking up his GUITARS nice and loud. To me there is nothing better than Bob cranking up his Stratocaster or Flying V! His adulation with electronica accents this album instead of over saturating it!
Good Job Mr. Mould
Love ya man!

. . . "A Music Fan" has pulled his head out. If you didn't like at least some of Sugar's Copper Blue, you gotta be braindead. yeah, yeah, husker du, the golden years, blah blah blah. get over it, move on, develop some new musical interests. i'm gonna see bob live in february and i'm sure i'll 'like it' just fine!

5 out of 5 stars Best Album of 2005.......2005-12-27

This is a true return to form for Bob Mould. The opening track is a classic and the songs from top to bottom glisten with a freshness I haven't heard out of Mr. Mould since Warehouse Songs and Stories.

While there are some techno excursions to be found here, they certainly don't dominate as the flourishes of electric guitar blow in an out of these tunes like never before.

Hopefully, this is a form Bob will continue to create in.

5 out of 5 stars Bob returned, and there was much rejoicing........2005-09-14

After 2002's Modulate, Bob seemed to have given up recording in favor of being a club DJ in Washington DC. Thankfully, he was also working on Body of Song for those of us living in other parts of the world. This record is nothing less than typical, high-caliber Bob Mould work: the lyrics ring with truth and palpable emotion, the songs are catchy yet deep and involving, and it all sounds fresh and immediate. Why are Bob's records so good? The answer must be that he pours his soul into the effort; what else would result in albums that shine with such obvious integrity? Actually, I bet it just boils down to hard work and dedication. Whatever the secret is, this record is another testament of the genius of Bob Mould.

As for the production, it tends to integrate the electronica of Modulate with the trademark wall of guitars very effectively. It's as if the Sugar track Feeling Better from Beaster was a starting point that evolved into a more dynamic creation, or that Body of Song has taken the best elements out of The Last Dog & Pony Show and Modulate in order to become a record that surpasses its parentage. There are tracks here, for example, that would turn New Order green with envy, but at the same time, devoted fans of the Sugar records will find much here that recalls that era of Bob's career. The backbone remains the same as ever, but the body has grown stronger via the new muscles that have been developed here. Come to think of it, although I first thought of Feeling Better, Hoover Dam from Sugar's amazing Copper Blue album has that prevalent synthesizer throughout; those songs really do seem like a toe-in-the-water of sorts to me when thought of in the context of Body of Song. I suppose that my main point is that this record is a logical progression from that time, and that the results are equally as successful.

Although the purist in me holds Black Sheets of Rain up high on its own untouchable pedestal, the realist in me readily accepts Body of Song for what it is: a damn fine album. Earlier, I called this record typical of Bob Mould, and that is probably one of the highest compliments that I could offer. I also should note that out of all the new music that I've listened to in the past year or two (trust me: it's a lot), this is easily up there in the top ten percent, such as Sonic Youth's Sonic Nurse, Green Day's American Idiot, Death Cab for Cutie's Transatlanticism, Gorillaz's Demon Days, and the White Stripes' Elephant. If you are new to Bob Mould and any of those records are close to your heart, then buy Body of Song: it's great new work from a great artist.

5 out of 5 stars Highly recommended.......2002-08-20

This pricey UK import CD filled a lot of gaps in my music collection and is an excellent overview of notable music of (mostly) recent films. It's difficult to find consistently listenable soundtrack collections like this, by that I mean free from the obligitory Whitney Houston or Celine Dion embarrassments. Usually rights issues prevent comprehensive compilations like this in the US, too. While I enjoy a lot of soundtrack music, there aren't so many complete soundtracks that I would care to own, some examples of exceptions being Ennio Morricone scores and the About a Boy Soundtrack. While certainly most of these tracks are the actual recordings used in their respective films, I noticed that "La mamma morte" from Philadelphia is not the Maria Callas version. There might be other cases like this, I'm not sure. And "Unchained Melody" from Ghost is an orchestral version, not the pop song (but I consider this a plus). This collection seems to focus on the subtle and quirky, yet melodic music of indie films, with less emphasis on the loud sweeping orchestral scores of major Hollywood hits, but of course there are a few like Gladiator and Braveheart, which are welcome here because like I've said, I probably wouldn't listen to the whole score. I love the two Thomas Newman compositions from American Beauty, and it's good to have some music from films by the Cohen Brothers here. My only complaint would have to be the order of the songs. You would think they would avoid jumping back and forth between pop songs, orchestral scores, and quiet music, but it just seems thrown together by random. I would compare this collection to the excellent "Miramax Films Greatest Hits" but the makers of that album knew to group the two pop/rock songs at the end.

5 out of 5 stars Diverse offering full of laughter, love and the blues!!.......1998-12-24

This musical soundtrack is my favorite! It has a diverse offering of artists who range in vocals from a very robust and alluring tenor to enchanting soprano. The types of songs go from fun & upbeat to "somebody-please-get-me-a-tissue" blues. These selections will make you envision whatever scene/theme that is being performed and will force you to crawl into the number and savor/enjoy the fun or the blues of it.

I love it!! I believe you will, too.

I bought the cassette when I was in high school because I liked the songs "Everyday of the Week" and "5 4 3 2 (Yo! Time is Up). Let me tell you something: After I listed to it the first time, I got rid of it. The rest of the music was just too boring. You're not missing anything. Skip this.

4 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS ALBUM!!!!!!.......2005-10-06

Besides En Vogue, Jade was one of my all time favorite female groups out there. During this time, there were only three other girl groups that were hot and they were EN VOGUE, SWV and BROWNSTONE. I'm so sorry that JADE broke up. I heard that there were members within the group that couldn't get along. This is one girl group I can say that all the girls can sing. Tonya's range was different from Joi and Di but these girls can blow. I can sit down and listen to every song on this album. I hated that they didn't get the credit they deserve. It would be very nice if they made a comeback.

5 out of 5 stars Mind, Body & Soul.........Even the Interlude Sound Good.......2005-06-22

Something was wrong with urban radio, when this album was released back in 1994. In my opinion, this album had the potential of having as many as 4 top 10 singles, Everyday Of The Week, If The Mood Is Right, 5-4-3-2(Yo! Time Is Up), and If The Lovin' Ain't Good. The other songs on this CD follow along the lines of previous Jade hits, and that's why I call this CD, a No-Brainer Purchase if you like urban music from the 1990s.

5 out of 5 stars A Really Good Group That Deserved More Exposure.......2005-06-20

When this group first came out, I loved them immediately. They were hot and they sounded good. Their first song "don't walk away" was a classic, followed by "one woman", and then they came out with this cd which was even better. I knew that from their first emergence onto the scene that they deserved far more recognition than they got. It was disappointed to hear that they broke up only one month after releasing this album, "citing irreconcible differences" because I was really rooting for them. They proved themselves with the strength and good tunes of this cd; it's just only a shame that this never played out. In an article in Ebony that discussed the breakup and turmoil of female groups, they were one of those listed, saying "they were over before they really started". That was unfair to say, being that, these girls were really talented but underrated. This cd is full of tight songs from "if the mood is right"(though it's kind of too graphic for my taste, but the beats sound good), "in the bedroom", "what's going on" had a good vibe to it to make your head shake a little while posing a genuine question of the turmoil in this world, "hangin" was off the hook! This song deserved some airplay and never even made it and it's ashame. "Hangin" is so funky, vivacious with good beats that makes you want to just get up and move, go out and just live a little-this song really exposed the groovy side of the group. "Everyday of the week" is refreshing and has a very nice tune to it, and I was glad that they went as far as to make a music video to it, which was so cool. But once again, it failed to get the airplay it deserved. Overrall, Jade is an awesome group with strong vocal ability and "Mind, Body, and Song" is evidence of it. Unfortunately, it seems all so clear that the reason this did not show out is because of the politics of the music world-popularity with the "right" people behind you and exposure of the less deserving. Does not matter that this cd is more than 10 years old, it's still worth it.

5 out of 5 stars A superb effort.......2004-07-19

Jade's sophmore CD is a more balanced and mature effort from this trio of gorgeous ladies who I admire very much. This group will go down as one of the most underrated groups during their time and I think could match-up with any girl group today and win. I like CD's that are well balanced and from start to finish with a starts off with a great acapella "When Will I See You Again". Then they continue with the slow jam vibe for most of the first half of the CD then once they get to "Every Day Of The Week"(underrated), the CD starts to picks up the tempo. My favorite song is "There's Not A Man" produced by DJ Pooh(Ice Cube, 2-Pac, Westside Connection, Snoop Doggy Dogg)which serves it up with a classic gangsta beat. Also the gospel group Mary Mary is also featured on the CD doing background vocals on "What's Going On". This is truly a great CD to add to your collection. I just picked this CD up last Friday. Props to Jade for sticking to the script and putting an outstanding CD.

I don't understand why Jules Massenet's "Meditation" from Thais is on Teldec's Tearjerker album and not on it's Meditation disc. Or why Maria-Joao Pires's performance of Schubert's Impromptu, Op. 90, No. 3 in G-flat major, is a tearjerker and not a Stressbuster (as another disc in this series is dubbed). Of course, such reasoning is too sophisticated for this context. The decent performances here feature music by Chopin, Puccini, Donizetti, Tchaikovsky, and others. What jerks my tears is the fact that a package like this is apparently needed to draw listeners to classical music. --Gwendolyn Freed

3 out of 5 stars Not a very bold return.......2005-11-01

As a "return to form," this is rather timid and tepid. Sorry for the loaded adjectives -- I will give its praise before I discuss its shortcomings.

It is definitely reaffirming to hear Bob Mould put out a (mostly) guitar-based album after the debacle of "Modulate." Not that "Modulate" was entirely without merit, but it is not in any way easy to listen to. It seems forced and calculated and aimed at quite a different audience than "Black Sheets of Rain" or "Copper Blue" or "Beaster." Bob had to know his average fan was not much of an electronica listener, after all!

"Body of Song," long rumored to be an all-acoustic project, has been in the works for years. Mould even refered to it indirectly as his "Nick Drake album" on the interview disc included with "Last Dog and Pony Show."

The resulting album is far different -- and not necessarily in a bad way -- than what it was built up as all these years. Face it, if he was not feeling motivated to put out an all acoustic album, it's probably better that he didn't. His stripped down material works best when it has the same passion behind it as his eardrum-shredding electric guitar work. And to it's credit, "Body of Song" has some great acoustic-dominated moments -- most notably "Nihil" on the bonus disc.

The remainder of the electric guitar songs are solid and decently rewarding. One can easily hear the maturity in his singing voice -- and simultaneously miss his old multi-tracked whine and its gripping pathos. "Body of Song's" vocals are clear, up front in the mix, and ever-so-slightly dispassionate. That, and a bit of the production trickery from "Modulate" has lingered -- vocals echo, ping-pong from speaker to speaker, and shimmer drenched in vocoder and other effects.

The bonus disc is well worth owning, often trumping the album itself. "Castor and Pollux" finds Mould marrying his love of electronica and his guitar skills without any of the self-consciousness of "Modulate." "Surveyors and Cranes" could have easily been exchanged for any track on the album proper. But who would have ever imagined the songwriter behind Husker Du's "Erase Today" or Sugar's "JC Auto" penning a sexless disco number like "Love Escalator?"

Where "Last Dog and Pony Show" was confident and assured, Mould seems a little lost in his own element on "Body of Song." If he has in fact forgone his love for the distortion-fueled, emotionally charged electric guitar albums he built a reputation and rabid fan-base on, perhaps he should go for broke and go all electronic from here on out.

"Body of Song" is vastly reassuring, but I can't help fearing that this once incendiary guitarist and songwriter is becoming another Eric Clapton: bland, tired, and enslaved by current technology and musical trends.

    5 out of 5 stars WOW!.......2005-10-12

Bob Mould is one of my favourites musician of post-punk era. But this cd is an excellent demostration of Mouldsongs. A classic.

5 out of 5 stars Mould Fans Rewarded.......2005-09-16

I have been a fan since the 80's: being floored by Rolling Stones Album of the Year (1987) "Warehouse Songs and Stories" (Husker Du; "Zen Arcade" is excellent as well) awed by seeing Bob perform "Workbook" and "Copper Blue" (Sugar) live at in The First Avenue (Minneapolis). I really liked his self-titled work as well. I haven't really been impressed with any other of his work, until now. First off, opening the limited edition boxed set struck me dumb, especially since I was once an altar boy (I wonder if Bob was too?) The included art/photography and its arrangement/presentation (subtle and tasteful) sets the overall tone. The music shows us that Bob has put it all together: his past, present, and future. He presents us with this 2-disc magnus opus, a great mixture of songs both reminiscent and new; Bob's truly consummated work, a Body of Song.

    5 out of 5 stars addictive.......2005-09-14

For those of you who have had the good fortune of following Bob Mould's career since the early 80's, and have enjoyed all the twist and turns of of his musical life, this album will encompass all of it. Husker, Sugar, accoustic, dance... all here all good. Embrace the diversity. Great Album

5 out of 5 stars PUNK LEGEND IS BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER.......2005-07-30

Bob Mould returns with the best album of his storied career.
The loud guitars and stirring lyrics are back with a subtle
keyboard track that enhances but does not engulf. the opening
track " circles " has the feel of HUSKER DU in their prime and is perhaps the best song on the album. " missing you " has the great pop hooks that SUGAR made into an art form. " gauze of friendship " is Bob at his emotional best lamenting a lost love.
This album proves that Bob is the most underated and talented songwriter of his genre.
