Screamin' for My Supper

Screamin' for My Supper

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
The late '90s spawned a spate of assertive female rockers. Few, however, possess the edgy passion, blues-drenched soul, and whisky-soaked inflections that are Beth Hart's trademarks. Less rough-hewn and more accessible than her 1995 debut, Screamin' for My Supper is nonetheless an emotional and memorable offering from this L.A. native. Hart's vibe--sort of a Fiona Apple meets Mick Jagger, with a liberal dose of Janis Joplin--somehow manages to be her own, while her thoughtful lyrics have a Southern sensibility that touches the heart and soul. This assertive yet fragile new artist, whose songs are as well constructed and executed as her words, could easily share a bill with Sheryl Crow or the Black Crowes, and might wind up stealing the show. -Katherine Turman

5 out of 5 stars Great album.......2007-04-22

This was one of those impromptu buys. Hadn't ever heard of her before, just liked the clips and said, "why not?" There isn't a single bad song on here, so how often does that happen? She's a screamer for sure, but it's still melodic and not too downtrodden. Her range of styles is impressive, too. Not too many screamers can do the ballads so well :-)

5 out of 5 stars !!!.......2006-12-03

Beth Hart is bluesy, dramatic and hot. Her voice is textured and hard-edged -- will completely take you away. This album is a wonderful investment with a high 're-playability' factor.

5 out of 5 stars Huge Beth Fan.......2006-10-01

Beth Hart is a unique artist with an amazing, soulful, bluesy voice and uncanny ability to communicate through music.
This album is incredible. The songs are meaningful. Beth's talent, voice and songwriting all come together here. I've had this album for quite awhile and it holds up over time and remains a favorite. The more I listen to it the more I love it and I never get tired of it.
When I first got the album I had my favorites - the obviously catchy "Delicious Surprise" and "Get Your S*** Together" as well as "Is That Too Much To Ask." However, the songs that are not as immediate also become favorites over time. "Skin" and "Mama" are standouts for me. This is not for a superficial listen. If you want bubble gum do not get this album. If you want something more - get it.
I also highly recommend Beth's album "Leave the Light On" and her live CD and DVD "Live at Paradiso!"

5 out of 5 stars Not For Britney, Mariah Or Jessica Fans!.......2006-06-25

This is one female who can sing.LA Song was popular when it came out a few years ago in NZ.She actually recorded a song 'I'll Stay With You' from her next cd 'Leave The Light On' with some of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. This is the cd that earned her radio time.Wake up America, this is a voice that should not be overlooked.NZ, Netherlands and Denmark have taken Beth to heart(no pun intended). It is a shame all it takes in America to have a hit is a Barbie face and bitsy voice.Buy this and start listening to real music.

4 out of 5 stars This Chick Rocks!.......2006-04-14

What ever happened to singers who feel what they're singing? Beth Hart is one in a million nowadays. Although this album came out in the late 90s, I finally got a listen. I was familiar with the song "L.A. Song", but I have to say that they missed the boat with releasing it as the single. It's not even close to being the best song on the album. The best ones are "Get Your Sh*t Together", "Delicious Surprise" (which has been covered by Jo Dee Messina, but this is much better), and "Is That Too Much To Ask". I also like the song "Mama" which reminds me a bit of Amanda Marshall.
Do yourself a favor and get this album. Like another reviewer said, it may be a case of the artist being better than the material, which is why I'm only giving it 4 stars instead of 5. Some of the songs are just ok. But the ones that are great are completely worth buying the entire cd.

5 out of 5 stars True Music.......2002-12-09

Simply put, you haven't lived musically until you've heard Beth Hart. She has the ability to stroke your emotions like very few others can with her powerful and intense voice. Her words - her sound and voice - have meaning. I bought Screamin' for Christmas a few years back (a present to myself, hehe) and have since picked up Immortal and both are by far my favourite CD's. Before I go to university next year, I'm going to buy them both again just so that I can have new copies. ^_^

5 out of 5 stars A CD you can sink your teeth into!.......2001-10-17

I must thank HBO for airing Beth's performance. WOW! I had to get the CD and it is worth every penny. If you even remotely like Joplin or Dale Krantz-Rossington, you'll love Beth. Her songs rock. There aren't many "whole albums" that I like but this entire album is great, not just one or two songs. I especially dig Delicious Surprise, Is that Too Much To Ask, Stay, Sky Is Falling, Favorite Things, and Get Your Sh*t Together.

Best original compilation of songs in a long time. These tunes will stay in your head long after you're done listening. They really flow.

5 out of 5 stars Kickin.......2000-11-22

Beth Hart is one of the most powerful heartfelt singers on the market place today. IF you've never heard her, with just one song, you'll be hooked for life! She can bring tears to your eyes, goosebumps on your back and give you enough energy to rule the world! Buy it - you won't regret it!

5 out of 5 stars She rock my soul!.......2000-10-10

Not since Janis Joplin has a female vocalist reached so deep into my rythmic soul. She woos me into her style and roars. I heard her on HBO and can't get enough. Janis lives! ...
