If you liked The Walkmen's previous album, "Everyone Who Pretended to Like Me is Gone", then you'll like their second full-length release "Bows + Arrows." It has the same stand-outish clanky piano melodies and Hamilton Leithauser's syrupy vocals. You can hear the band's growth in the second album. It sounds a bit tighter and slightly more aggressive.

I agree with some of the other reviewers' comparisons to the Replacements and U2. Just listen to the track "Little House of Savages," and you can hear remnants of both. My favorite track has to be "The Rat." You can blast this song and feel every bit of emotion that Leithauser and the rest of the band put into the song.

This group is great to listen to no matter what mood you are in. It has such a variety of songs that it fits any occasion, whether you feel like listening to something mellow or aggressive. I also agree with M. Smith's opinion of their live show...it is amazing. I saw them play at Austin City Limits music festival in 2005. There was such a broad range of people in the audience. My friends and I just sat at the back of the crowd on a blanket and watched the emotion of the crowd...there was everything from hippie-girls dancing like crazy to the quiet 30-something male just shaking his head with his eyes closed. It was a great experience.

I recommend getting this album along with "Everyone Who Pretended to Like Me is Gone" to get the full range of the band's sound. Also, visit their site, because it has some pretty funny and entertaining things:

Sound like "old U2".......2006-05-10

Una banda que aparentemente podria ser de las monotonas bandas "PUNK" del monton, sin embargo queda en evidencia que el uso de sintetizadores le da un toque particular y le enriquece. Considerando esto yo no me atreveria a colocar a "Walkmen" como banda "PUNK".

Lo primero a notar es el gran parecido que tiene con el "U2" de anta?o, sobre todo me recordo por momentos al "Boy" de U2, y un poco menos al "October". Logicamente "Walkmen" tiene un sonido mas sucio y distorcionado ya que es la tendencia actual.

Energetico y agresivo vocalmente, guitarras agitadas e incicivas pero con casuales lineas melodicas dulces que le hacen sonar estupendo. En resumen Bows + Arrows es un buen cd, sin embargo tiene la constante intermitencia que caracteriza los albums de las bandas actuales. Personalmente seleccionaria el single "The Rat" como el mejor corte de este album.

My first impression of Walkmen was that they sounded like The Chameleons with Rod Stewart as singer...I've really begun though to appreciate the layering of sounds within each song and come back to Bows and Arrows every few weeks

They were great live,any chance you have, see them. I love bows and arrows.They sound stronger on this album.The vocals,the instruments,intensity, everything. definitely kicks ass!

This album is fabulous. Melodic, Too Cool For school, sincere, passionate, and semi-garage. Seems to describe life in New York City from a gentlemen in his mid twenties. relationships, scene assimilation, heartbreak, growing up,. Sounds like Frank Sinatra meets the Strokes with a more passionate overall sound. Singing voice heavily influenced by Lou Reed and the replacements, seems to come out crooner-esque. fast picking and innovative Guitar technique combined with subtle and chiming organ melodies gives the music a strong dramatic feel.
