Clement is a French singer in her early twenties whose whispery voice and world-weary attitude recall Francoise Hardy at the dizzy heights of yeh yeh-dom, Jane Birkin, Keren Anne, Nico, the early Marianne Faithful (although the lyrics to these songs tend to mirror the mature artiste) and lately, Carla Bruni. Very few singers have the restraint to wait three full years between albums -- the less-rocked-out, soft-jazzy Salle Des Pas Perdus constituted her debut -- but it's obvious that the time was well spent. Touring has tightened her phrasing, which still needed work, and uncovered an inexorable womanly tinge that cuts through the determined girlishness of her vocals like a stiletto through a Prada jacket. Her multi-faceted brother, Benjamin Biolay, wrote most of the songs and among other contributions, supplies a host of partly unraveled, garage-scented guitar riffs. But it's Coralie's show all the way and bodes well for the future. --Christina Roden

Album Description
Bye Bye Beauté's defining sound is Clément's voice, a supernally girlish whisper floating so absurdly high up in the mix you can hear her gums smacking together. Admittedly, this production strategy has a certain merit. Who could resist the sound of a female voice, singing exclusively in French, pushing those softly sibilant syllables (ooh la la) past her wetly clicking lips and tongue? EMI. 2006.Customer Reviews:

Tres bien.......2006-06-30
All of the songs are in French, and if this causes you consternation then you should probably look elsewhere. If that doesn't bother you, the album is quite a treat to listen to. Coralie's vocal work has improved from her debut, and she utilizes her breathy, almost raspy voice to its fullest. On some of the songs she sounds almost syrupy sweet, sometimes like a proven jazz crooner, and almost always bringing to mind the ever dangerous femme fatale. The music itself sounds like it would be perfect for a smokey Parisian lounge, with jazzy riffs, great rhythm and percussion, and strong guitar work.
My personal favorites would have to be the jazzy songs "L'enfer", and the opening track "Indicise", but "Un Beau Jour pour Mourir", "Gloria", the softer title track, and "Et Pourtant" (a duet with her brother, I believe) are all excellent.
If you have any interest in experiencing some French pop music and enjoy lovely and distinctive female vocalists, then chances are you would enjoy Coralie Clement. I picked it up on a whim after hearing a clip of "Indicise" and was more than well rewarded.
J'aime bien.......2006-05-25
Overall a very fun and catchy album featuring lots of light fluffy singles, as well as a few heavier and mellower songs, which add a bit of meat to the collection.
Surprise! Surprise! says Gomer Pyle........2006-02-28
could have more of a punch, but it sounds alright to listen to
on those "chill out at home" kind of vibe. Lovely girl, with a "come hiter" voice makes me feel so nice.yeah.
