A Girl Called Eddy is the rather unassuming name used by singer-songwriter Erin Moran. On this, her debut album, she teams up with former Pulp guitarist and acclaimed solo artist Richard Hawley to produce an album of elegance and depth. Quite simply, A Girl Called Eddy is music made by grown-ups for grown-ups. The band, who also featured on Hawley's own opus Lowedges, create sophisticated arrangements that add an almost jazz-like feel to tracks like "Tears All Over Town," "Girls Can Really Tear You Up Inside," and "Life Through the Same Lens," yet they never threaten to overpower Moran's own tender and emotive voice. She is, after all, the real star here, and she proves her abilities both as a singer and as a lyricist throughout. "You're lonely like only the broken can know," she broods on "Somebody Hurt You," and her voice conveys both sympathy and intimacy, never an easy feat on a recording. This is a surprisingly accomplished debut album--dignified, literate, and well-observed. Its mellow, relaxed pace may sound perfect for late-night listening, but A Girl Called Eddy will command your attention. --Robert Burrow

5 out of 5 stars just good music.......2007-06-11

getting back into music after 30 yrs i purchased many amazon recommendations. have to say i was disappointed in a lot of the recommended esoteric music that doesn't have the soul and heart that i like (give me some carole king or james taylor). this is not blues or soul but is real music. check it out.

5 out of 5 stars A Girl Called Eddy.......2007-03-02

Music for thinking listeners. Old fashioned, lovely, thoughtful lyrics. Something to listen to after an evening with friends - and to impress them with.

5 out of 5 stars Best I've heard in years........2007-01-10

This girl puts my faith back in music. A great sound!

5 out of 5 stars Cause you're missing me like I'm missing you... .......2006-04-03

Eddy/Erin Moran's music is simultaneously warm and edgy. Her lyrics melt into a fusion of city dreams and melancholy wishes. Tears all over Town introduces you to a mood of loss and longing which is perfect for entering into the poetic contemplations in Kathleen which is melodious and warm, capturing your emotions, holding them for seconds and then releasing you into the rest of the moody moments.

The Long Goodbye is a wakeup call at the start, but soon delves back into an ocean of intimacy and almost contains a country element. People who used to Dream about the Future brightens the album even if the lyrics are still about failed dreams, the mood is nostalgic. Heartache introduces breathy whispery lyrics where Eddy's voice is even more the focus and classic in beauty.

Life through the Same Lens is almost bouncy when compared to the rest of the album.

When you are in a "Did you see the moon tonight" mood (pure, beautiful and filled with longing and memories), this is an album to consider. It lets you relax into contemplation all while embracing you in a warm summer night of songs.

The honesty in the lyrics is highly appealing as is the 60s mood (especially in Somebody Hurt You) the entire album creates. If you like Norah Jones, this might also be your style, although the mood is much more melancholy and downbeat.

"But I want you to remember me
If you see the moon tonight
I hope it finds you all alone
Maybe sitting by the phone..."

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful and Marvelous........2005-11-22

Erin Morans "A Girl called Eddy" album is simply wonderful. Something very heartfelt and warm to listen to. It's good to hear an artist really pour themselves out into the words as they sing.

TEARS ALL OVER TOWN - This was the song that grabbed my attention to "A Girl called Eddy". This song has a laid-back, folkish sound to it. Erin Moran sounds nothing short of beautiful here.
KATHLEEN - This song as a similar beat as "Tears all over Town". In the background, you can hear all sorts of instruments beautifully streamed together..
GIRLS CAN REALLY TEAR YOU UP INSIDE - This song sounds as if its about a girl who is fatherless. She is waiting for her father to be a part of her life, and he just runs from the situation. (It is possible I have interpreted this wrong, but that is just what it sounds like.)
THE LONG GOODBYE - I'd have to say this is my favorite song on the entire album. Ever want to just drive down the road with your arm out the window singing along to the perfect song? Well, this is the one.
SOMEBODY HURT YOU - Ever dated someone who just won't let you in, maybe because their scared or because of past relationships. This song sings all about it.
PEOPLE USED TO DREAM ABOUT THE FUTURE - This song isn't even holiday related, but when the chorus kicks in..I can't help but think of the Christmas Holidays. I think it's just the beat to it.
HEARTACHE - This song starts off with Erin singing a capella, and she does it marveously.
LIFE THRU THE SAME LENS - This song has a good little beat to it. I love how the chorus picks up during the song.
DID YOU SEE THE MOON TONIGHT - This song is like a beautiful lullaby to doze off to.
LITTLE BIRD - Not one of my favorites ones on the album, but nonetheless, Erin sounds absolutely wonderful on it.
GOLDEN - Not sure why but this reminds me of something similar to artists such as Joni Mitchell. I love how the beat picks up during the chorus. The perfect song to end the album on.

Even if you're new to A Girl Called Eddy (as was I), pick up this album.

Album Description

Having sung a groovy duet with French crooner Katerine ("Parlez-Vous Anglais Mr Katerine?"), as well as backing vocals for several popular bands (including Simply Red), A Girl Called Eddy (who splits her time equally between Greenwich Village and Paris) figured it was time to strike out on her melancholy and moving own. Inspired by Tracy Thorn, Richard Harris, Michael Caine, Peter O'Toole, earl gray tea, 24 Faubourg Parfum by Hermes, rainy days, Gene Wilder in WIllie Wonka, a nice glass of red, starry nights, airports (but not flying), Prefab Sprout, all the B's: Leslie Bricusse, Burt Bacharach, the 'Blue Note', The Blue Nile, Bjork, Beck, Brian Wilson, Lionel Bart, Bowie, Beatles, My Bloody Valentine..., "The Little Prince" (movie and book), glockenspiels!, the warmth of the sun, ma, 3/4 time, L'oreal Quick-Stick Instant Foundation, Revlon lipstick in "Cherry Crush", Jimmy Webb, Breath Right Nasal Strips (THE most genius), CASSIS, the town, men who make you laugh, "Harold and Maude", trenchcoats, Chauncy the dog, Chrissy Hynde, Dusty Springfield, Karen Carpenter, the smell of fresh-cut grass, and the sea, Paris, Scott Walker, Serge and Gilbert O'Sullivan, Tony Richardson movies... Her debut 5 song EP is romantically titled "Tears All Over Town" and includes a selection of perfect moments: "You Can Call Him Heartache," "Soundtrack of Your Life," "Girls Can Really Tear You Up Inside," "Same Old Tears," and "Fading."

A Girl Called Eddy once sang a duet with French singer Katerine, lives in NYC, and drinks more than she should. This is the letter her label-honcho/ boss-man wrote to her when he heard her demo (since she's not good at writing her own 'bio') such a drunken delight. expect a call in the morning. make that the afternoon since it's already so close to the morning as it is. there's nothing i would like more than to be involved with these songs will i have to leave a message. i would prefer to speak in person. there's very little i like less then leaving a voice mail. is there a number at work where i can reach you or should i just phone you... write me here to let me know. so much. let me know so much. your songs make me feel so much. so much. honestly. so incredibly moving. so rare. so influential not yet, but soon. even now. moving me to feelings. ha. i'm so drunk. so strange writing an e-mail so late. i feel what you're doing. and i feel you in the morning reading this with laughter. i'm only on "kathleen" and already i know i'll be listening to nothing else for days and weeks and months on end. where have you been all my life. honestly. all the music i love is nothing anymore. my dog is leaving the room. stormy doesn't seem to be as crazy about this as i am. it's almost 5am so i suppose i'll excuse him just this one time. one time. just this one. i'm still ready for fading, girls can really tear you up inside (which is far too true) and soundtrack of your life (french version). Honestly, I can't imagine that I could possibly write an e-mail to convey the feelings I have right now. This is seriously some of the most beautiful and emotionally charged yet melancholy and moving music I've heard in ages. In forever. All night. Just spent hours making out to the music of The Dependents. It was her selection. Her car. Her tape. I mentioned that my label might be too pop and she confessed to liking Blink 182. Hmm. But this is serious. Your music is so serious. So completely perfect and charming and tender and harsh. So many adjectives. Note big kid rock party this saturday in his farmhouse mansion. i can't think of anything else. Not books. not records. not dreams. not e-mails. only this music. only this music. obvious nods towards tracey thorn though you might prefer to deny. wow. amazing. incredible. and yes, i did forget about you. you wrote to me previously? saying you would send this? why not sooner? why not when i was 17? you would have surely shaped my life and not just my evening. we should talk. we should work

5 out of 5 stars A wee bit melancholy........2003-05-10

I like Eddy. Waiting for more. There's a bit of Tracey Thorn from -Everything but the Girl- in both her lyrics and her voice. My only complaint is that I would have liked to listen to more. She has a place among Margo Timmins, Hope Sandoval and Beth Orton - that particular signature.

5 out of 5 stars special.......2003-03-11

This is a special ep and a singer who has a special voice.
The rich lyrics and wonderful arrangements will leave you wanting more and more. This is the beginning of a wonderful road for the group and I suggest you buy the ep and get in on the wonder.

5 out of 5 stars great!.......2002-01-24

this cd is just perfect! her voice is sultry and all the songs will get you in a good, calm mood.

5 out of 5 stars mmmm..........2001-08-08

Imagine Chan Marshall (Catpower) joining chilled-out version of Tahiti 80 for a few songs, tired yet sweet quasi-french vocals singing over a loungey background...this gets whole galaxie of stars just for 'The Soundtrack of Your Life'

Second single lifted from self-titled debut. The title track is b/w a previously unreleased track, 'Under the Warm Sun' along with an exclusive liver track, 'Heartache' recorded for the BBC. What the press have said, '...she exhibits gorgeously gauged soul and shrewdness on a record which, and we don't say this lightly, sounds like a new Karen Carpenter album' 4 stars (Mojo.) 'Moran materializes like some time-warped gene-splicing of Dusty Springfield and Chrissie Hynde with a Bacharach and David-style songbook full of sweetly painful love songs' - 4 stars (Uncut.) 'Remarkable songwriting.. steeped in 60s classicism ...a voice that suggests she could have given Dusty Springfield a run for her money.' 4 stars (Q). Anti. 2004.
