The Black Crowes already possess one of the beefiest sounds in rock. Add legendary Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page and now you're talking about thick-cut steak. Recorded in October 1999, this double-disc slab will certainly stick to your ribs, chock-full as it is of burly, brawny riffs, and it is as flavorful as it is filling. Without question, the pairing of Page and the Crowes sounds as strong on your player as it does on paper. Page's playing is more focused and incisive than it has been of late, the Crowes sound energized and inspired by the esteemed guest, and Chris Robinson makes a fine Robert Plant. The Zep covers, which account for 14 of the 20 tracks, stay close to the original arrangements--you can sing along most of the way based on your knowledge of the Zep studio albums. At first, this may seem disappointing, but it becomes clear very quickly that this method is preferable to any heavy-handed reworkings. And they smartly include a few lesser-known tracks as well ("Sick Again" and "Ten Years Gone" from Physical Graffiti and "Out on the Tiles" from III). The real payoff, however, comes with the half-dozen blues covers, which sound looser and more alive than the Zep tunes. This set isn't innovative, surprising, or adventurous, but that's precisely where its charms lie. --Marc Greilsamer

If Josh Groban's unabashedly melodramatic musical fusion inspires grousing on both sides of the classical/pop pundit divide, the screams of the (mostly) young female fans that punctuate these 2004 performances at L.A.'s historic Greek theater better underscore the real point. This set's CD and more expansive DVD complement each other well; if anything, supplemented by a live string ensemble and crack backing band, they're a warmer, more focused showcase for the singer's talents than the studio albums that made his meteoric fame. In peak form, Groban variously delivers forceful renditions of his pop-operatic powerhouses "Canto Alla Vita" and "Anna Luce Del Sole" (the former featuring a drum solo [!] from Groban, the latter a fine guest turn by Bela Fleck on banjo), takes a surprising solo piano break on Paul Simon's "America," waxes Central Asian on Troy's "Remember" and brings the crowd to its feet with the heart-on-his-sleeve dramatics of Closer's "Never Let Go." They're all informed by the singer's insouciant, youthful enthusiasm, arguing that Groban is gifted with more than just a magnificent voice; he's a complete natural as a performer as well. The DVD also includes a tour diary narrated with typical charm by the singer, as well as bonus live performance of "Believe" from the Polar Express soundtrack. --Jerry McCulleyAlbum Description
Josh Groban's 2002 PBS "Great Performances" special was a #1 selling DVD and the best-selling long-form music video of 2003. His second "Great Performances" special was taped at L.A.'s Greek Theater in the summer of 2004. For fans of the young sophisticated pop phenomenon who has sold more than 8 million albums, this CD+DVD package is just the latest great performance in the career of Josh Groban. DVD Extras: On the road with Josh for Summer 2004 Tour and a special performance of "Believe" from The Polar Express (it's PBS footage mixed w/ film footage).Customer Reviews:

Let me explain..........2007-01-14
The waving of the light sticks was started at the very beginning of his first tour, mainly to show him how much the fans appreciated the concerts. The first idea was to wave them during the last verse of "You Raise Me Up," when the choir came out. Later, fans added another show of support by waving blue light sticks during "Vincent (Starry Starry Night."
OK, if you still find that annoying, that's your right. However, the flag waving at the end of "To Where You Are" was special. This concert was filmed on September 11, and the flags were waved at the end of "To Where You Are" for those who were lost, and the families of those who were lost, on 9/11/2001.
It's your right if you still find these things annoying. I just thought I'd try to help you to understand.
Since this is a forum for giving our opinions of the DVD, I have to say that I love it. He has a beautiful voice and I love listening to him under any circumstance. The DVD is wonderful, IMHO.

Return of the Monster Riffs.......2007-03-17
OK, Page's solos aren't 100% on point, but he still gets 5 stars because any one of these riffs can eat entire other bands for breakfast. Make sense? OK, put it this way...Jimmy had to do a lot of drugs to be able to go to that strange, dark place where these riffs were living and drag them kicking and screaming back to the land of the living. For that we will forgive him a few off notes here and there.
If you've got any testosterone, for God's sake, get this.
THE BLACK CROWES MEET AND PERFORM WITH ONE OF THEIR FAVORITE IDOLS, MR. JIMMY PAGE........2007-02-08
In my opinion, I feel it was destiny that brought these two musical giants of artists together even if it was only for a short time. Listening to this album in its entirety, it is evident who THE BLACK CROWES musical influence really is. When JIMMY PAGE met and joined forces with THE BLACK CROWES lead vocalist and frontman CHRIS ROBINSON, his brother RICH ROBINSON on guitar, STEVE GORMAN on drums, ED HARSCH on keyboards, SVEN PIPIEN on bass and AUDLEY FREED on guitar, a great legendary band was born in the image and offspring of none other than the MIGHTY LED ZEPPELIN. LED ZEPPELIN'S special blend of Rock n' Roll music performed on this legendary album would not only add more fuel to THE BLACK CROWES legend, but to the LED ZEPPELIN legend as well. This legendary album is a true testament of LED ZEPPELIN'S legendary music and a fine tribute to the legacy of this mighty band. In my opinion, this is one hell of an album that deserves to be listened to. And yes, this legendary historic album does kick a*s.
All of the songs reviewed here are a wonderful tribute to the MIGHTY LED ZEPPELIN. I will list and briefly review all of the song tracks in their original exact running order as follows: DISC ONE (1.) "Celebration Day," (What a Rocker. This Rocker kicks a*s. JIMMY does not waste any time when he finds and gets into his groove with THE BLACK CROWES. CHRIS ROBINSON plays and sings the role of ROBERT PLANT perfectly. RICH and AUDLEY back up JIMMY perfectly as well. This new live rendition version of the original 1970 LED ZEPPELIN classic Rocker almost sounds as good as the original and the live version performed on "THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME.") (2.) "Custard Pie," (This is one hell of a Rocker that kicks a*s. At last, there is a new released live rendition version of the 1975 LED ZEPPELIN classic Rocker. JIMMY & THE BLACK CROWES play this Rocker extremely well. THIS IS ALL OUT PURE ROCK N' ROLL AT ITS ABSOLUTE BEST.) (3.) "Sick Again," (This is another well recorded Rocker that kicks a*s. This new Rocker rendition of the original 1975 LED ZEPPELIN classic Rocker almost sounds as good if not better. JIMMY, RICH and AUDLEY play some mean guitars in this Rocker. CHRIS sings this Rocker with pure adrenaline and emotion that gives this Rocker an additional kick.) (4.) "What Is And What Should Never Be," (This is another well recorded slow Rocker that kicks a*s. This new slow Rocker rendition of the original 1969 LED ZEPPELIN classic is breathtaking with some new added climaxes. JIMMY, RICH and AUDLEY add some new ground blistering guitar playing arrangements with JIMMY playing all of the solos. As I mentioned in one of my other prior reviews, legend or rumor has it that JIMMY is now receiving Cortisone injections before each gig, is there any truth to that? If anyone knows, please comment my review and let me know. It would be deeply appreciated. I have noticed that JIMMY'S playing has deteriorated with time. PLEASE NOTE that I am in no way knocking JIMMY'S performance. I am extremely thankful that JIMMY & THE BLACK CROWES have blessed us with this album.) (5.) "Woke Up This Morning," (This is another well recorded Rocker that kicks a*s. This is not a LED ZEPPELIN number. JIMMY plays a mean guitar solo in this one. RICH and AUDLEY compliment and back up JIMMY perfectly with their superb guitar playing. CHRIS sings this Rocker with such raw energy and intensity that the audience gets into this Rocker and carries the band to another level.) (6.) "Shapes Of Things To Come," (AKA "Shapes Of Things") (This is another well recorded Rocker that kicks a*s. This Rocker is a new rendition version of THE YARDBIRDS 1965 classic Rocker. CHRIS sings this Rocker with new added power and emotion that you cannot help but feel this song with the band. JIMMY plays the guitar solo with new added emotion that it almost sounds better than the original.) (7.) "Sloppy Drunk," (This is another well recorded Rocker that kicks a*s. JIMMY plays a fine guitar solo during this Rocker. RICH AND AUDLEY also play some wicked guitar solos in this Rocker. CHRIS sings this Rocker with new feeling and a intensity not heard from him before.) (8.) "Ten Years Gone," (Again, this is another well recorded slow turned Rocker that kicks a*s. This Rocker is another new live rendition of the original 1975 LED ZEPPELIN classic Rocker. JIMMY plays his guitar with such skill and grace that he and the rest of the band almost bring back the spirit of the MIGHTY LED ZEPPELIN. RICH and AUDLEY also contribute perfectly with their masterful guitar playing. CHRIS sings this song with new power and emotion not heard in years.) (9.) "In my Time Of Dying" (Again, this is another well recorded Rocker that kicks a*s. What a Rocker. This new Rockin' version is a rendition of the original 1975 LED ZEPPELIN classic Rocker. JIMMY plays a mean sliding guitar. CHRIS' blistering lead vocals adds more power to this song's legend than ever before. RICH and AUDLEY add more of THE BLACK CROWES magic touch to this LED ZEPPELIN Rocker. and (10.) "Your Time Is Gonna Come." (Again, what can I say but this is another well recorded Rocker that kicks a*s. This legendary Rocker is a new live rendition of the original 1969 LED ZEPPELIN classic Rocker. ED adds his own special blend and personal touch of his keyboard playing to the original LED ZEPPELIN Rocker. CHRIS adds new life to this song not heard on the original. JIMMY, RICH AND AUDLEY give this LED ZEPPELIN Rocker new life and energy not heard on the original.) END OF DISC ONE.
DISC TWO (1.) "The Lemon Song," (Again, this is another well recorded song that kicks a*s. This Blues Rocker is a new live rendition of the original 1969 LED ZEPPELIN classic Blues Rocker. In my opinion, this Rocker contains nine minutes of some of the greatest Rock n' Roll that you have ever heard. JIMMY plays his guitar like he is on a mission to surpass ZEPPELIN'S original version. RICH and AUDLEY backs up and compliments JIMMY'S guiar playing arrangements perfectly with THE BLACK CROWES own special blend of Rock n' Roll. CHRIS sings this Blues Rocker with such raw power and emotion just like a Blues singer belts out the Blues.) (2.) "Nobody's Fault But Mine," (Again, this is another well recorded Rocker that kicks a*s. This new live Rocker version is a rendition of the original 1976 LED ZEPPELIN classic Rocker. JIMMY really shows his expertise during the beginning guitar riffs of this Rocker. RICH and AUDLEY also add some great new touches of new sounds with their masterful guitar playing arrangements during the live performance of this Rocker. CHRIS almost sings this song with the same exact intensity like that of ROBERT PLANT.) (3.) "Heartbreaker," (Again, this is another well recorded Rocker that kicks a*s. This new live Rockin' version is a rendition of the original 1969 LED ZEPPELIN classic Rocker. JIMMY, RICH and AUDLEY play some mean guitars during this Rocker. JIMMY plays a very effective guitar solo. CHRIS lets loose with his breathtaking lead vocals.) (4.) "Hey Hey What Can I Do," (Again, this is another well recorded Rocker that kicks a*s. This new live version is a rendition of the original 1970 LED ZEPPELIN classic Rocker. CHRIS sings and pays tribute to ZEPPELIN and ROBERT PLANT with his beautiful blistering lead vocals. JIMMY, RICH and AUDLEY really let loose playing their guitars during this performance. This is the first ever live performance premiere of this classic ZEPPELIN Rocker.) (5.) "Mellow Down Easy," (Again, this is another well recorded Blues Rocker that kicks a*s. JIMMY, RICH and AUDLEY add some great touches with their guitar playing arrangements. JIMMY plays a fine lead guitar solo which shows his greatness as a legendary guitar player. CHRIS' voice sounds more husky which sounds totally different singing this song as compared to singing the others.) (6.) "Oh Well," (Again, this is another great legendary Rocker that has the real Rock stuff that is made of legend. This Rocker kicks a*s. This new live Rockin' version is a rendition of the legendary 1970 FLEETWOOD MAC/PETER GREEN classic Rocker. JIMMY, RICH and AUDLEY really let their guitars run wild with this Rocker. CHRIS sings this song almost as scary as PETER GREEN does.) (7.) "$hake Your Money Maker," (Again, this is another well recorded Blues Rocker that kicks a*s. The whole band plays this ELMORE JAMES Blues Rocker like there is no tomorrow. JIMMY, RICH and AUDLEY play their guitars like Rock n' Roll is heading for a new invasion. CHRIS gives this Blues Rocker new life with his own special blend of belting out the Blues.) (8.) "You Shook Me," (Again, this is another well recorded Blues number that kicks a*s. This live version is a rendition of the original WILLIE DIXON Blues classic. JIMMY seems mesmerized and plays his guitar with such power and emotion that you almost feel that JIMMY dares to play the exact way he did during his ZEPPELIN days. RICH and AUDLEY contributes and backs up JIMMY perfectly with their own masterful guitar playing arrangements and THE BLACK CROWES own special blend of magic. CHRIS really truly sings the Blues with this Blues number.) (9.) "Out Of The Tiles" (Again, this is another well recorded Rocker that kicks a*s. This legendary live version is a wonderful rendition of the original 1970 LED ZEPPELIN classic Rocker. JIMMY plays guitar in this classic Rocker like a true legendary guitarist is supposed to play. RICH and AUDLEY both play lead and rhythm guitars respectively. CHRIS sings this song with such raw power and grace that he gives this legendary Rocker some new life. This live Rocker also marks the premiere of this Rocker being performed live in its entirety for the first time.) and (10.) "Whole Lotta Love." (Again, this is another well recorded Rocker that does nothing but kick a*s. This blistering live version is a rendition of the original 1969 LED ZEPPELIN classic Rocker. In my opinion, this is one of the best live versions of "Whole Lotta Love" ever recorded. JIMMY really plays his guitar to the maximum and never lets up. RICH and AUDLEY also play their guitars to a maximum and new heights not heard before. CHRIS really sings and carries this legendary Rocker to the next level with his blistering lead vocals. If you close your eyes, you can actually envision "Whole Lotta Love" being performed by the spirit of the MIGHTY LED ZEPPELIN.) Overall, this is one hell of a album that is a true testament and a fine tribute to a great band that was truly ahead of their time.
I would like to highly recommend that everyone purchase this legendary album to own as a valuable and important part of their own personal music collection. You are not just purchasing any album, but a priceless gem that is part of Rock history. This historic album is Rock n' Roll history in the making and may not ever be repeated in quite the same way again. This legendary album will definitely stand the test of time and will always be around to be enjoyed, appreciated and cherished for many more years to come, NOW AND FOREVER.
In closing, JIMMY PAGE & THE BLACK CROWES only lasted life for less than a year. During this time, Rock n' Roll witnessed some of the most magical moments ever caught on tape. Both LED ZEPPELIN and THE BLACK CROWES would add more to their saga and legend after the release of this double Compact Disc album. However, THE BLACK CROWES would have their fair shares of ups and downs and highs and lows that are well publicized and documented. With this in mind, THE BLACK CROWES would break up and disband for quite some years until recently. As I am writing this review, THE BLACK CROWES are in the process of releasing their first new studio album in nearly five years. This new album should be released sometime in 2007. I really do hope that these legendary artists work and play together again in the near future. They just sounded too damn good for their own good. For a brief moment, these artists gave Rock n' Roll a good swift kick in the a*s where it was needed in order to breathe new life into Rock n' Roll. Rock n' Roll needs JIMMY PAGE & THE BLACK CROWES to keep the glorious tradition of Rock n' Roll flowing through everyone's speakers. So here's to you JIMMY, CHRIS, RICH, STEVE, ED, SVEN and AUDLEY. Keep Persevering. Keep The Faith. Keep On Rockin'. And as the saying goes, "AND THE REST IS ROCK N' ROLL HISTORY," am I wrong? Thanks for reading my review and I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it for your reading pleasure. I also hope that you will read all of my other reviews in the near future when time permits. JIMMY PAGE & THE BLACK CROWES RULES. R.I.P. JOHN HENRY "BONZO" BONHAM. R.I.P. LED ZEPPELIN (1968-1980) Long Live Rock n' Roll. Rock out always and take it easy. Forever in Rock, John L.

A Nostalgic Return to the Blues.......2006-08-29
I had no idea what to expect when I heard that the two had teamed up. The Black Crowes? All I knew was their cover "Too Hot to Handle" and "Shake Your Money Maker." So the real reason for me buying this may have been Jimmy Page - but it takes two to tango - and incredibly, the Black Crowes made a perfect fit.
LIVE AT THE GREEK is a trip into the heady past of Zep and its roots. Chris Robinson doesn't have quite the same range as Plant - but comes close SURPRISINGLY in spirit and feel. Surprisingly, he FEELS like a young Plant bursting out of the gates. It's not easy singing any Zep song, but Robinson does his best in hitting the high notes. He succeeds on most tracks -like Celebration Day, Out on the Tiles, Sick Again, Custard Pie -but he kinda flops on Heartbreaker. (That's a minor foible though) The band just rocks though and never lets up - twin guitars playing Zep and the blues - creating a full on sound that even Zep couldn't do in its later touring years.
Ironically, the Page-Black Crowes combination evokes much of Zep's early years precisely because of the straight arrangements and the blues covers. More so than Page-Plant could really do. Of course there's no substitute for the real thing, but you can't blame a guy like Jimmy Page for jamming the world's greatest rock songs can you?

Live at the Greek.......2001-10-29
the best i ever saw Jimmy play in a long time and you know this
by hearing me in the crowd. Many people agree! The Black Crows
were a very good back up for Jimmy almost all of the Zep songs I thought were great. After I found out they released these songs
from the show I was at, I quickly bought the CD and listened.
Again, it sounded fantastic when listening and even more sensational when I heard myself all over the CD. The Zep songs played were remarkably good you might not even notice the missing
Zep band members.Have not heard it yet buy it you ll see and listen for me in audience.
Breathtaking!.......2001-05-17
