5 out of 5 stars LEVON AND THE BAND REVISTED.......2007-05-08

Brings back many memories. Levon and the Group are as good as days of old.
Thank you Imus!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Solid Set.......2005-09-26

Consistency might seem a tad mean-spirited when pinning Helm's,'Ties That Bind' compilation. However, its the vitality and raunchiness that are consistent. Having dipped into some of his solo efforts since the Band went on the blink, I was more than pleasantly surprised by Raven Record's astute collection. I'd clearly rate this above any of those solo works. 'Don't Ya Tell Henry' is easily superior to the version available on the BasementTapes. 'Lucretia'is a sister tune to,'Ophelia' and every bit its equal. The Cate Brother's,'Standing On A Mountain Top', makes a welcome reappearance. The heart rending, 'Caves of Jericho', sounds like a worthy Band outtake that could accompany, 'Arcadian Driftwood'. The playing is uniformly tight and upbeat. Only,'The Weight' and,'Rock, Salt And Nails', fail to convince among this very generous 19 song selection.

4 out of 5 stars Good retrospective.......2001-03-19

After several listenings I am now prepared to rate some of the songs on this CD. I will rate them in order of personal preference: 1) "Don't Ya Tell Henry" an off-the-wall Bob Dylan nonsense lyric which is nonetheless typical of what Dylan can do if he puts his energies to the task. 2) Toss-up among: "Standing On The Mountain Top", "When I Get My Rewards", and the mellow "Watermelon Time In Georgia." 3) "Caves of Jericho": I am not sure it is proper to so honor a song about such an unmitigated public disaster. The song is similar to Peter Paul & Mary's "Spring Hill Mining Disaster" and to the Band's own "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down," both of which are also about public disasters. 4) Honorable mention: "Hurricane."

5 out of 5 stars Levon really is a classic.......2000-05-26

Great album especailly the first 6 tracks. People really don't recognize Levon's singing and playing abilities for how great they really are.

Love it!

5 out of 5 stars GREAT OVERVIEW OF LEVON'S WORK.......1999-03-06

This Australian CD is a great overview of Levon Helm's work. Included are recordings from the last albums of the original Band, all his solo albums, and the reformed Band. Also included are guest appearances with John Martyn and The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. My only complaint is that the version of "The Weight" is not from Ringo Starr's All-Star Band as cited on the cover & in the liner notes, but is from The Last Waltz with The Staples.
