Jack Johnson is one talented man. When he's not surfing or recording laid-back, rootsy rock jams like those on his debut, Brushfire Fairytales, he's filming award-winning movies about surfing like the September Sessions. Oh, and naturally, he has a hand in its soundtrack, an eclectic and relaxing array of jam-band improvisation, bluesy licks, and jazz-flecked rhythms. Johnson's solo contributions, including a cover of Jimmy Buffett's "Pirate Looks at 40," are stripped-down acoustic numbers with as much understated grace as Jeff Buckley. Other artists opt for more adornment, like Ozomatli's percussive reggae/hip-hip fusion, the Bollywood funk horn rave-up "Ganges a Go-Go," and the hands-down highlight, Greyboy and Karl Denson collaborating on a hypnotic bite of modern jazz driven by funky, spring-fresh flute loops. Sublime may have been the forbearer of breezy oceanside atmosphere, but this fantastic soundtrack takes laissez faire vibes to new levels--and emerges as yet another building block in the foundation of Jack Johnson's rapidly emerging chill-out empire. --Annie Zaleski

5 out of 5 stars What the heck?.......2006-05-04

Yo, You guys have got to understand that there are more people behind this film than just Jack Johnson. He's a talented guy but hes not the only one. Some of the new bands on this cd are awesome and they sound great with the movie. Remember that this isnt a studio album, its a soundtrack. Everyone seems to be looking for another jack johnson album here....and thats just not what it is.

3 out of 5 stars This may not be what you're looking for.......2005-08-05

First, this is not a bad disc. It's listenable; BUT if you are looking for other individuals or groups who sound like Jack Johnson, you will be disappointed. The musicians here are a talented, but fairly diverse group and "Thicker Than Water" is, indeed, superior to this.

5 out of 5 stars very soothing.......2005-07-28

If you are a fan of outdoor concerts in the summertime, lying on the grass, eyes closed, music flowing over you, stars shining in the sky...you will love this album. Jack Johnson and G love fans will not be let down.

3 out of 5 stars so-so.......2005-07-07

a good cd if youre out on the road for a while, relaxing, songs are all right but nothing fantastic.

4 out of 5 stars Good, but "Thicker that Water" is better........2005-01-08

I totally agree with Annie Z's review. This is another fun CD of Jacks- OK, mostly Jacks. I like his Jimmy Buffet remake, and G.Loves Willow Tree, all of the September Sessions input. Jack again reminds us to have fun, relax, have some quality in our thinking, and take it easy.
