After their hit remake of "La Bamba," Los Lobos could easily have settled into the lazy, provincial groove of hometown heroes. But with producer Mitchell Froom's encouragement, the pride of East L.A. exploded all conventions on their one true masterwork. Their Latin roots are obvious, and so is their encyclopedic knowledge of American blues, rock, and soul. But they don't stop there, tossing South African mbaqanga into the mix of "Wake Up Delores," and fearlessly experimenting every step along the way. The more you listen, the more you marvel that the band fit so many weird, wonderful sounds into songs with deep roots in the past but perfectly suited for the future.

Perfume of the South-West.......2007-01-16
Here is the perfume and visuals of the South-west.'Kiko' is to Los Lobos what the Brown album was for The Band. And it has a generosity, a scale, a warmth of compable magnitude, doing for their region what the aforementioned Band disc did for the East coast. The music is at once old and progressive. It's the perfect soundtrack to Sayles,'Lone Star' film,'Three Burials'(though Doug Sham's there and no argument with that), or even,'Big Lebowski'. The side project, Latin Playboys, is for me their only other set of similar impact. But, to continue the Band affinities, it's like 'Stagefright' after those 60s works of genius.
BUY THIS ONE!.......2006-02-19
Its hard to say that any album could be the quintessential Los Lobos Album. They have so many different aspects and nuances, it would be impossible to capture them in one album. Kiko comes pretty close to capturing the Lobos' essence though. Songs like Dream In Blue, Angels With Dirty Faces, & Peace showcase the basic Los Lobos "East LA Roots Rock" sound. One of my favorites, Saint Behind The Glass, is a nod to traditional Mexican Music while still maintaining approachability to the non-Latino listener. Rio de Tenampa showcases the band's ability to seamlessly meld Mexican and Country sounds together in one unique package. Every song on here is written and played with great depth and feeling, but none more than the melancholy When The Circus Comes, which I find so emotionally stirring. While this CD has a certain Hispanic flavor, it is a great introductory album to a band that appeals to lovers of all different genres of music including, Latin, Country, Blues, Rock and more!
Los Lobos' Sgt. Peppers.......2006-01-01
I've got a half dozen of these guys' albums, most of which are great in their own right, but this is hands down, their absolute best. It got all kinds of accolades when it came out back in 1992. Sometimes, critics go goo-goo-ga-ga over some record, and later you wonder why. That's not the case here. This album has stood the test of time.
They're doing this album live in its entirety in a few cities right now, but there's a chance they'll expand the tour. Not to be missed.
Kiko.......2005-09-21
We heard a song - Kiko and the Lavendar Moon - from this CD on the radio. As soon as I got home, I ordered the CD. It was good as expected. I have a friend who is an avid Lobos fan. I want to add myself to that list now.
Emperor's new outerclothes.......2005-06-17
a bit overrated...i have been a Los Lobos fan from the beginning, and tho i like them all...including Kiko very very much.. i would rate La Pistola, The Neighborhood, How Will the Wolf Survive and One Time One Night above Kiko...and I like The Ride as well... I admit to being a simpleton musically, and usually i like bands' earlier albums, before they get full ofthemselves and try to say something important derived from their grade school educations and frantic worldwide touring lifestyles... Los Lobos has avoided this descent into stupidity and self idolatry, and is one of the few bands whose entire output is worthy of owning, but... Kiko is just not as fun to listen to as the others.. and of all the Los Lobos posers out there, all seem to "love" this album and can't quite put their finger on why... i am buying what Los Lobos is selling, metaphorically speaking, but if you are not a music geek, try the other four albums i mentioned and get all sentimental and Sloppy and Los Rockapunkabillyos with the boys... :-)

BEAUTY-FULLY BRAZILIAN FUSION GUITAR !!!.......2007-07-15
Kiko Loureiro's "Universo Inverso" is a fresh, ground-breaking recording of a young Brazilian guitar virtuoso that integrates the electric fusion guitar format w/Brazilian traditional rhythms & song forms into a beauty-full mixture of the two styles- GRRREAT CD !!! Loureiro's playing has deep emotion, fluidity & imagination & integrates his Brazilian heritage w/ his obvious love of the electric format... his band of extremely talented musicians really compliments Loureiro's style & sound with their playing to create a recording that inspires repeated listening & dancing. Kiko has found a new niche in the wide world of electric guitar & fills a need for new world music that fuses the beauty of Brazil's traditional dance forms w/ the power of electricity & the coloration w/ effects- extrapolating the stylings of Santana 'n' Di Meola into a guitar style w/a very definite 'n' unique identity !!! Obrigado Maestro Loureiro for this wonder-full CD !!!

Great Prog Metal iwth latin influences.......2006-04-13
I am a fan of metal instrumental guitar and I have heard many albums and players and I can say this ranks ith the best of them. The best part of the album is the tracks have both a strong lead ANd rhymm section. The songs themselves sound like something satriani and santana might write together. Very musicial and melodic as well. A must have album for shred and guitar fans.
Tasteful Album To Every Guitar Player's Liking!.......2005-08-13

Album Description
Pacha is THE best known name in nightclubs around the world. Since its original location in Ibiza was founded in 1972, the club has grown to 22 nightclubs dotted around the world from New York to Ibiza and from Buenos Aires to Munich. Not only are there clubs but Pacha also runs a magazine, two restaurants, a hotel, a clothing line and a record label. Over time, the Pacha name has become synonymous with all that is stylish, hedonistic and fabulous. Swank Recordings have partnered with Pacha for this first CD release.
Kiko's debut album is a start-to-end listening experience, sequenced like a seamless DJ mix. The music has an organic, live feel to it, reminiscent of Masters At Work's "NuYorican Soul" album and has influences from Latin and Afro house to classic Salsoul disco.

Customer Reviews:
A great amazing album........2001-03-22
Esta Muy Bien Eso Del Carino contains a smart innovative blend of swinging nouveau flamenco and brassy jumpy post-punk from Spain. Kiko Veneno crafted a fine set of really catchy tunes, including melodic rockers 'Veneno' and 'Estaba Lloviendo' that compare favorably with the best from XTC and the Beatles. 'Viento de Poniente' is a brooding lively croon with sweeping flamenco touches which achieves the kind of mood arena bands go for but usually muck up. 'Respeto' and 'La Casa Cuartel' are strikingly lovely songs that stand out on this consistently strong album. A fun version of Dylan's 'Memphis Blues Again' may get you singing along in Spanish, even if don't know the language. The production is balanced throughout, using horns and Kiko Veneno's distinctive guitar and voice to create a unique sound that's remarkably accessible without being light. This is the best of Veneno's albums, more challenging and more satisfying than contemporaries from Spain like La Barbiera del Sur, Tomatito, and Ketama. This album is likely to please listeners who favor post-punk/alt rock, the English Beat to the Clash, and who are interested in nouveau flamenco. Really good road trip music -- I've played this album for a lot of people in a lot of places, and everyone has liked it. And a great place to start discovering that Spain has rock innovators as good as the Brits and Americans.
Flamenco based contemporary spanish rock.......1998-09-19
Proof that great things come through mixing different influences. Superb guitar playing, Andalucian Flamenco feeling and light hearted lyrics make this a very interesting example of the high quality of contemporary Spanish music. Well worth buying to find what Latin music is like on the other side of the Atlantic.
