Annie Lennox's first album of original songs in 11 years on is a stylish tour de force that showcases the former Eurythmics chanteuse in all her chilly, shimmering splendor. Her formidable voice is still a supple and intriguing instrument, lithely shape-shifting between emotions, personas, and musical forms. Lennox moves effortlessly from the sparse and pristine lament of "A Thousand Beautiful Things" to the deceptively simple "Pavement Cracks," a solemn ballad that is transformed by electro dance beats that recall some of the best of the Eurythmics. But Lennox's quixotic voice is best utilized as an old-school soul instrument; she makes a metaphoric journey to Motown on "Hurting Time," a reflective ballad could have been lifted off a Miracles album. "Honesty," shows the Scottish diva at her well-mannered best, occupying the same sophisticated space formerly held by Carly Simon.

Customer Reviews:
One of the 10 best ever.......2007-06-27
I, like most people in the US, was first introduced to Fleetwood Mac thanks to their huge commercial successes of the late 70s early 80s. I do adore the music they produced (and continue to produce), but I am also open to the idea that there was a Fleetwood Mac before Nicks & Buckingham (and ironically on my list, there was a Buckingham Nicks before there was a Fleetwood Mac, but that's another review...)
It was probably the mid 80's when I found my first dusty copy of Bare Trees in a used LP bin. I had previously purchased a couple of their other early albums, and although I liked them alright, nothing stuck - until Bare Trees. I remember thinking - this is incredible! I still do!
Not to belittle the other bandmembers' contributions, but this is Danny Kirwan's triumph. Although his personal issues led to his departure from the band, there is no denying his musical genius.
Danny's guitar playing is impeccable and his songwriting the strongest of his carrer. Bob Welch blended beautifully into the Kirwan direction and served as a better foil than Kirwan himself did earlier for Peter Green. Christine's piano was very "mod" and complimented the dual guitars. Fleetwood and McVie are as strong here as anywhere else.
The music - Stunning. "Sunny Side of Heaven" is the best pop instrumental ever laid to vinyl. "Spare Me A Little Of Your Love" the best song Christine McVie has written (if you're a McVie fan - you know the bar is very high). The better version of Bob Welch's biggest hit, "Sentimental Lady" is also here. Danny, however, is the star - "Bare Trees", "Child of Mine", and "Dust" - all I can say is thank you, Mr. Kirwan, and thank you Fleetwood Mac.
The Mac, pre-Stevie.......2007-05-13
This is one of the older Fleetwood Mac albums out there. I had this one on 8 track!! Sounded great back then, sounds even better on CD. Sentimental Lady will get you thinking about that "one girl" way back when!! It'll also get you singing to her...If you liked Fleetwood Mac back in the late 60's early 70's, you need this album!
Arguably their best effort........2007-04-02
Fleetwood Mac, at a time in its history before it all went terribly
crazy. Christine Perfect's strong, soothing, husky sexy vocals guide
this interm masterpiece from 1972. Fleetwood Mac had taken a fork in
the road, from raw english boys with the blues, to a more groomed product
of laid back english rock. That difficult period all parents have with
their children, the one between birth, and when they, the children, leave
the nest. This period of this bands illustrious history, is as I see it
a very stable time, unlike the bad crazyness that came later with another
personal change. The music is stable, calming, even though their is
some honest rock and roll thunder flashes, and thunder rolls. Ir you
haven't heard this one, I'd suggest listening to it, and see if you can
catch the calming vibe, the quite, the spiritual/emotional boost you
may experience from this album.
Once again..........2007-02-21
Just like "Future Games", why didn't this album break Fleetwood Mac into the mainstream? The music is absolutely breathtaking. Danny Kirwan asserts himself more than every by contributing, a breathtaking 5 songs! out of the 9 on this album.
He balances his songwriting between amicable pop (the title track), bluesy rock ("Child Of Mine", "Danny's Chant"), and folky balladry and instrumentation ("Sunny Side Of Heaven", "Dust").
Christine McVie and Bob Welch with two songs each, equal in depth to Kirwan's 5. McVie's "Homeward Bound", while not anything like the more famous Simon & Garfunkel tune, definitely invokes similar imagery, albeit more desperate in the author's want and need to just get home and relax.
Welch's "The Ghost" just rolls along at a whirlwind pace, brought on by John McVie and Bob Welch dueling for dominance in the intro, which gives way to a haunting combination of slide guitar and a Mellotron Flute drenched in reverb courtesy of Christine McVie.
The almost obligatory love songs actually hold their own on this album. McVie's "Spare Me A Little Of Your Love" holds it own against her stream of late 70's/early 80's hits, while Welch's "Sentimental Lady" (which, I must say, the version on here bests Welch's late 70's reinterpretation) really just presents an aura of relaxation in the arms of the woman you love.
Overall, just a really good and underrated collection of songs (along with the predecessor "Future Games") that should have broken a talented bunch of musicians and songwriters into mainstream success, but instead sort of drifted into semi-obscurity underneath the late 70's and early 80's hits.
Kirwin out of his Tree, but he is a mad genius.......2007-02-19
With these 5 gems, all I can say is "mad genius" comes to mind...
Child Of Mine - Sunny Side Of Heaven -Bare Trees - Danny's Chant - Dust
In particular Kirwin's (Dust) is very strange (a ditty about dying and turning to dust and decomposing) , but it is beautiful. The band will miss Kirwin, he was fired soon after for inapropriate behavior issues, due to his madness. God he is such a talented man (still alive) , the fame did him in, thank god we have his wonderful music that will never die.

classic annie lennox.......2007-06-03
If you are a big fan of Annie Lennox (like I am), you will not be disappointed by "Bare". Full of emotion, and Annie's terrific voice.
love annie lennox.......2007-05-07
I love this cd. I heard one of the songs online and couldn't get it out of my head. I never heard much about this cd even though I love Annie Lennox and have other cds. I highly recommend it.
Best Breakup Album Ever.......2007-04-13
Just a short commentary - Written after a painful divorce, "Bare" is a haunting summary of the many emotions that come crashing in following a breakup. Musically, the songs have all the pop expertise you'd expect from AL - combined with lyrics that lay bare the pain and hope of starting over again. Buy it. Buy it for your friends who've been left behind by a lover or a husband, buy it for yourself. I keep it in my album rotation for sad days.
Ambivalent love.......2006-12-25
Annie Lennox perfected her electro-soul formula long ago and, here, she produces a downer Soul Cages rumination with slightly testier guitar elements. "Twisted" and "Loneliness" have a John Lennon / Plastic Ono Band savagery that, with the famous Lennox precision cool, add up to euphoric cries to the cosmos. "Wonderful" is the most ambivalent torch song here - suffering, yet loving, being possessed; it's eerie and raw. "Pavement Cracks" is downer still, a divorce anthem - lifted by Lennox's superb pop smarts. She's one of the deepest singers going.
Bested Diva.......2006-08-03
I didn't think it was possible to top the magnificent Diva but with Bare, Annie Lennox lays down all of her cards & every one is spot on. This album reaches into your gut, tugs & doesn't ever let go. A beautiful album from a remarkable talent.

The Old Dogs are Bobby Bare, Waylon Jennings, Mel Tillis, and Jerry Reed, four old-school country & western legends now rejected by a youth-obsessed Nashville. Refusing a rocking chair, these good old boys have fought back and made music for the mature, twang-lovin' audience they know is still huge. To wit, the 11 steel-guitar-driven cuts here, all from wacky songwriting legend Shel Silverstein, are aimed at the senior set. The 10 punch-line novelties ("I ain't too old to cut the mustard, I'm just too tired to spread it around") are joined by the bittersweet, and even wise, closing ballad "Time." The overdubbed crowd noise grows more than annoying and there isn't a note here that suggests you can teach old dogs new tricks. But this disc argues loud and clear that, by God, the old tricks are still plenty good enough. --David Cantwell
Customer Reviews:
Real Versatility, Great Fun With Words........2007-05-09
While not quite The Highwaymen, these Old Dogs (all stars in their own right)do an outstanding job of the 11 gems by Shel Silverstein. Top arrangements, clever vocals, backing second to none. What more could you ask for?
I want to know why it has been hidden since 1998! All that enjoyment I've missed.
one of my favorite cds.......2006-10-24
Unfortunately you can only buy a single cd mix of the Old Dogs songs. The orginal TV offer had two cds which I have but is no longer available. This CD is a must have for all of those Bobby Bare, Jerry Reed, Waylon Jennings and Mel Tillis fans. The songs are very enjoyable and will make you laugh. You will want to share it with others.
The "old" joke gets old.......2005-03-17
Why is it that when you combine great solo musicians into an all-star lineup the whole is usually less than the sum of its parts? I came to this CD with high hopes featuring as it does four veteran country singers with great reputations.
Despite not being an especially big Mel Tillis fan, I can honestly say that each of the other three have written at least one tune I consider among my favourite songs ever (not just favourite country songs, favourite overall: Waylon Jennings "Lukenbach, Texas". Jerry Reed's "When You're Hot, You're Hot", Bobby Bare's "Detroit City"). I also knew that Shel Silverstein was involved and thought that would be a good thing as he can be a clever writer.
Like one other reviewer here, I'm gonna lay blame at Silverstein's feet. The singers don't sound poor here, but they don't have much in the way of memorable lyrics to sing. The overdubbed phony crowd noise becomes annoying and the repetitive nature of the subject matter (it's hard to be old) works against desiring frequent listens. One or two novelty numbers like "Cut the Mustard" and "Young Man's Job" would be plenty.
Highlights:
"Rough on the Living" casts a jaundiced eye at the country music industry that talked up Johnny Cash after his death but couldn't find space on the airwaves for his new material when he was still with us (even though some of it stood alongside his finest work),"I Don't Do it No More" with Waylon on lead vocal is one of the better 'gettin' older' numbers here ("lovin' them ladies two at a time, I don't do it no more, I CAN'T do it no more..."),
"She'd Rather be Homeless" is a pretty witty take on one of country's "four D's" (divorce in this case...the woman chooses poverty over the yuppie life with Bobby Bare..), and "Time" is a wonderfully bittersweet look back at a life well-lived ('So it takes a bit longer to walk up a hill/What of it?/My life now is much more fulfilled/But they're tearin' down buildings that I watched them build')
Low points:
Why they chose to use a cliched double entendre like "Old Dogs" as the leadoff track is beyond me. ('Old dogs don't waste his licks but he can still bury a bone'). It's easily one of the worst songs here and made me not want to keep listening to the disc. "Still Gonna Die"'s joke on health nuts wears thin. "Me and Jimmie Rodgers" would be a great piece of Americana if it ever found a hook but it just feels unfinished.
Bottom Line: While I agree that too much of the country music coming out of Nashville these days is faceless and unremarkable, handing substandard material to great singers isn't a good way to make the case for putting the old-timers back on the air. A more convincing case could have been made. Let's hope the Dogs get another chance to leave the doghouse and they get more than table scraps to work with.
2 1/2 stars
Hilarious.......2003-10-29
This is probably the funniest album ever made. Even if you're not normally a country fan, you may enjoy this. However, try to find the original, out-of-print double album (available initially through an 800 number) if you can. There are several even more hilarious songs on it.

I bought this for my father who enjoys listening to Larry "The Cable Guy" on the comedy station. We listened to it in the car and could not stop laughing. I would recommend this CD!
Amazon won't allow negative stars.......2007-02-12
Larry the Cable Guy is not funny. To anyone that thinks differently, you are wrong. The "Larry" character is a sham, and is only exploiting the subhuman rednecks. Sadly, it is working like a charm because all of you buy this garbage along with the Git-R-Done t-shirts, caps, lighters, car decals, underwear, and bed sheets. His real name is Dan Whitney. Look for his pre-Larry comedy on YouTube. He wasn't funny then, either.
Funnier than.....................................2006-05-12
This cd is awesome!! Anything from The blue collar guys to Larry is hilarious. Larry the Cable Guy is by far the best comedian in the world!! I can't wait for the third movie and his new movie Cars. I can't wait also for a new cd and for his Health Inspector to come out on dvd!!! Now I'm gonna get a dip cup. GIT-R-Done.

Album Description
Raven presents, for the first time on CD, one of the greatest live recordings ever! By 1979, BOBBY BARE had been recording for 25 years yet when he strapped on a Fender Telecaster and recorded live in the studio a rough and rowdy album with a bunch of Nashville's finest musicians, he was set to hit new highs in an illustrious career. Down & Dirty was both a glorious last hurrah for the `outlaw' movement and a touchstone for the `new country' of current darlings Big & Rich, Gretchen Wilson etc. According to AMG's Thom Jurek it is, "Bare in his element: live, rowdy, and dangerous. This is good-time outlaw country. Bare's band rocks and rolls, swings and strolls through 13 tracks from a rejuvenated Bare. The humor is in large supply; the poignancy is everywhere. But it's the tune selection that makes this is such a killer record." For every outrageous Shel Silverstein song (Numbers, Qualudes Again) there is a tender, sensitive or just plain poetic masterpiece. In the words of Bill Graham, "Bobby Bare is the Bruce Springstein of country music". Embellished with eight stunning bonus tracks, circa 1978-1980, this is good time outlaw country at its finest. Comes with an 8-page booklet with detailed liner notes.

A country western classic.......2007-03-26
What a pleasure to discover that one of the all-time great country-western albums was finally on a CD. Bobby Bare is a singer's singer, a favorite of better known performers like Willie Nelson and Kris Kristoffersen. When he teamed with songwriter Shel Silverstein on rollicking ballads like "Pour Me Another Tequilla, Sheila" and "Numbers," the result was ingenious, literate, up-tempo fun. From the sad tale of bluesman "Blind Willie Harper" to the lyrical truth that "Some Days are Diamonds," there isn't a wrong note in this album.
Classic! It was worth the wait........2007-03-02
Of course this cd finally is released after I jumped through all the necessary hoops to convert my vinyl LP to CD! Even so, I'm thrilled to have the cd at last, not only for the improved sound quality over my converted format, but for the additional tunes. Bare was never better than on this album, and that's saying something. Pointed, poignant, facetious, playful, even angry and bitter -- he displays the full range of emotions here, and never, ever goes over the top. IMHO this is one of the top 10 country LPs of all time. When the Tim McGraws and the Kenny Chesneys of the entertainment world can display this kind of range and talent, I'll buy'em, but not until.
FINALLY!.......2006-12-11
Finally on cd,some of the most fun music recorded ever.Urban Cowboy music at it's best.According to the liner notes "DRUNK AND CRAZY" to be released soon.Looking forward to that!
It's been a long time coming.......2006-12-08
Thank heavens they finally released "Down & Dirty" on CD! My cassette of it gave way years ago and I have been searching for the CD since. This is truly one of the best recordings ever made.
The True Country Outlaw.......2006-11-27
I can't add much more to the terrific and comprehensive album review that sums up in a nutshell what Bobby Bare has done for Country Music.
I have this album as well as the bonus tracks on vinyl and although the quality of the tracks are excellent and the fact that I have already converted them to a cd, this has not stopped me ordering this album.
There has never been an equal to Bobby Bare in song rendition. He interprets the songs with such meaning that you can actually live inside of them.
Because he was so many years ahead of the dreary country scene at the time, he never received the recognition that was due to him. Therefore, this album will be appreciated in this day and age much more than it did in its time.
I rate this as a true masterpiece from a man that should have been inducted to the Country Hall Of Fame a long time ago. If I as a South African can appreciate the "Bare" then all I can say is "Wake up American country fans and smell the roses". Do something about this injustice to Country Music

The Essential Bobby Bare.......2006-07-28
I was glad to find and purchase this CD. I have been looking for this CD for months and was able to give this CD as a gift to my family. The service(quick delivery time) was awesome and really love the music too.
Decent album.......2005-09-01
One of the better "Best OF...." albums. To be honest, I care little for the sound of '70's country music, although there were a few notable exception. Bobby Bare, despite his early Rock-n-Roll venture, stayed true to form and put out a few memorable hits for a wasted decade. I could do without the obligatory "father to son" talking song so popular in this era (Thank you Red Sovine, Bill Anderson, etc....), but the good far outweighs the bad on this album. Not sure that Bobby was ever an "outlaw" (and after judging by today's definition of that crowd, he may not want to be associated with the term anyway!), but he did things his own way; which is why I think he flourished during the death of the Nashville Sound and the increasing Disco beats of Barbara Mandrell and Kenny & Dolly. The recordings on this albium are superb, and you can really appreciate Bobby's straight-forward, no-nonsense, approach to presenting a song. Overall, I give the album a grade of B.
Bobby Bare as good as expected.......2005-08-21
I haven't heard a Bare song on the radio in quite a while and it is quite enjoyable to listen to his songs. The best being Detroit City followed closely by 500 miles from home and The All American Boy. The delivery service was better than expected and the cd as I stated is a good one.
I haven't had the oppertunity to watch Path to Power as of yet, so I can offer no review on this dvd, except to say the delivery service was better than expected.
SOME Essentials Here + Cowboys and Daddys (No).......2005-01-12
Lackluser reviews, folks. You can do better. A fair number of "hits" but still ignoring "Shame on Me" and "Just to Satisfy You". Not all essentials have to be hick stuff (or on virtually every other Bare CD). And for those still looking for "Cowboys and Daddys", try MusicMatch.com and look for the "Masters" album.
A Minority Opinion! This One Grew Stale........2002-05-14
I just completed a review of "The Essential Dotty West" in which I wrote that the CD grew on me the more I listen. This is the opposite. I grew tired of "The Essential Bobby Bare" very quickly. I believe this is due to the fact that Bobby sings mechanicallly, just like a performer in the studio grinding them out.Perhaps Bobby has made one bus tour too many. I may be prejudiced because I've read that Bobby was one of the early "OUTLAWS" who, it says here, tried to ruin country music for their own gain. On a positive note, these "Essential" group of albums seem to br very well produced. I would urge amazon listeners to acquaint themselves with this series of classic country.

Killer set of tunes!.......2007-02-28
First of all, this album is just plain extraordinary. Secondly, some reviewer down below says this is the only Mayall and the Bluesbreakers album with guitarist Mick Taylor. I think Taylor has been on like 4 or 5 different Mayall albums over the years, my favorite of which is *Crusade* Micks first recording with the band in which he really shines on the guitar, much to the same level as Clapton did on the *Beano* Bluesbreaker album. Shame nobody has reviewed it here on Amazon yet so there's your first five star rating for that album. Bare Wires is a trippy, mesmerizing album that is just astounding and at times scary. The sheer level of musicianship involved is evident all over. Jon Hiseman is a wicked evil drum wizard with a killer groove and fantastic chops. Mick Taylor, already proven on Crusade takes things a step or three further and really delivers the goods on this album. The rest of the band is superb, probably Mayalls best lineup ever right here. But don't take my word for it, GET IT and then go out and get *Crusade*!!
Touches A Nerve.......2006-07-11
When I was in college, you just weren't any fun at parties if you didn't have a good Bob Dylan impression in your pocket, as well as a good John Mayall impression. Mayall's singing was so overtly unnatural that he was a perfect target, it seemed he was straining for every note. That said, Bare Wires is the album where he stays within his range most effectively. The result is that for once one does not have to politely avert one's eyes when he sings.
Bare Wires is certainly Mayall's most unusual album, and in many ways his finest. In addition to the standard blues fare for which he is famous it includes strange and brooding experimental numbers like Bare Wires, Fire, I Know Now, and Sandy. Invariably surrounded by other terrific musicians, this effort boasts one of Mayall's best bands ever, including an outstanding horn section - Chris Mercer and Dick Heckstall-Smith. Henry Lowther adds some particularly eerie, and appropriate, grace notes with his fiddle and coronet. Jon Hiseman is excellent on drums and Tony Reeves anchors the effort well on his bass.
Mayall plays guitar, piano, and harmonica, writes, arranges, sings, and probably puts up the posters too. But he is a not a virtuoso at any of them. His greatness lies in his dedication to the blues and his ability to find and groom talent. For many years Mayall's band was an unofficial Blues Graduate School, turning out such legends-in-the-making as Eric Clapton and Peter Green. When Bare Wires was recorded, Mick Taylor was the new hot thing. (Mayall had originally found Taylor through a newspaper ad when he was only 18, long before his stint with the Rolling Stones.)
The one time I saw Mayall, at the Fillmore East, he had Taylor with him. The kid was putting on a clinic, he was out of his head. That same energy and flare are present throughout Barewires, even on slow numbers like Killing Time. But when you get to the upbeat tracks like Start Walking and Hartley Quits, you'll see why many consider Taylor every bit as good as Clapton, which is saying something. A marvelously obscure and curious CD certain to delight the true collector.
One of my favorite Mayall albums........2005-12-09
Mayall is a throwback to the "big band leaders" of the early 40s. His greatest talent was recognizing and assembling great musicians; directing and leading those musicians; and arranging and creating great musical compositions. This album highlights all of those strengths and in my opinion is his best. I'm a big fan of Mayall and have all of his early works, 1980 and earlier. I rediscovered this album after I started switching my collection over to CDs...I had long lost or "misplaced" the vinyl. Oddly enough, I guess my aging has changed my taste a bit, because I now put Barewires at the top of the Mayall collection. There is more use of horns and the music is more--I guess "moody" is the right term. I love the suite; it has all the ups and downs of life..."I'm a Stranger" is one of the best songs done by Mayall, it has everything. "No reply", "Hartley Quits" lots of good cuts on this one. This album is so smooth; it's great for a laid back evening of cooling the soul! Jazz/Blues, when done right, isn't a struggle to listen to and this album can be listened to with your eyes closed and your brain set on idle...
Jazzy, use of horns with a touch of the avant -garde .......2005-07-31
I remember when this came out .. 1968. everyone was blending tracks together a'la Sgt Pepper . Mayall's Bare Wires Suite is his Sgt Pepper! This is a set of music that has stood the test of time...a real classic British Blues disc .There are wonderful horns by Henry Lowther ,and the Late, great Dick Heckstall-Smith (R.I.P Dick) Jon Hisemans inventive drumming shines throughout this recording , Jon was with the last line -up of the ill -fated Graham Bond Organisation , along with Dick, prior to joining the Mayall Band . Mick Taylor had appeared on the Crusade album prior to this , and would be retained for the next album featuring a stripped down line up of just a four piece .('Blues from Laurel Canyon'which had one track featuring Peter Green.) Obviously , especially as they had not yet 'Cracked America' A large band like this would be impossible to keep on the road for very long , even back then ..Another album with this line -up would have been really something special. This is STILL one of Johns best...
I was hopping for better.......2004-12-28
John Mayall and his blues breakers put outquite a few good albums in the late 60's and early 70's and all featured and new and amazing guitar player. Eric Clapton and Peter Green all went on to succesful bands and solo carears after bluesbreakers and so did Mick Taylor, who just happens to play on this album. After this album we didnt really hear much from Mick Taylor for a while but in the early 70's Taylor joined the Rolling Stones after Brian Jones died. Bare Wires is the only album Mick Taylor recorded with John Mayall. Mayall vocals are at the best of his carear on this album and it really shows on tracks like 'I'm a Stranger' and of course Mick Taylors guitar sourse throughout the whole album.
The album opens with 'Barewires-Suite' which is a montage of songs that lasts for 22 minutes its filled with tone of solos by the band but none show out like Mick Taylors do about half way through tha suite has goes into an amazing knock your socks off solo, it shows that Green, and Clapton had nothing on him. Next is 'Im a Stranger' which as I meantioned before shows some of Mayalls best vocal abilities, but other then that this isnt a really impressive song. 'No Reply' is a cool wah-wah pedel fueled blues song full of high energy and great vocals. 'Hartley Quites' is Mick Taylors shining moment, this song shows some of Micks best soloing, never again did he play with such passion and conviction, this track alone out shines the entire album with Eric Clapton. Listen to this and try and tell me Mick Taylor isnt one of the most underrated guitar players of all time! I dare you! 'Killing Time' is a slower piano driven blues song with great slide guitar by mick and awesome vocals by Mayall, it almost sounds western. 'Shes Too Young' is a fun saxaphone filled blues song with lots of rythem changes and lots of energy, this is the fastest song on the album and one of the better tracks as well. The albums ends with 'Sandy' which is slower and full of great slide guitar work, kinda tradidtional and its really cool because Mayall sounds like Jake Bruce of Cream at times, deffinatley the best song to close the album.
So while this may not be the best album by John Mayall and His Bluesbreakers it is still a very good album full of great musician ship. If you are someone looking or a album with great guitar work I would recomend this. Also if you are a big fan of Mick Taylors I would highly recomend this as well as Goats Head Soup by The Rolling Stones, and If you like this album be sure to pick up Hard road by Mayall featuring Peter Green and Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton, both are very good high quiality albums.

Bare revisited.......2007-05-14
Glad some cd companies are now putting out the songs of yesterday's stars. Bobby was one of them. Songs from this cd bring back a lot of good memories.
Classic.......2007-05-12
I enjoy this collection very much. I listen to it all the time while traveling.
The Best of Bobby Bear.......2007-03-09
This has got to be the best CD that Bobby Bear has out there all the favorite songs and more . I was so please with this CD the price was great and this CD is very hard to find in stores a must for Bobby bare Fans.
Not Bad; Could be Better.......2005-01-07
I think Bobby Bare clung to country music despite his early success (1962) with "Shame on Me", much beloved by a LOT of country music lovers I know but not a hardcore country song by any means. But this package has one of my very favorites, "Just to Satisfy You", later covered by Waylon Jennings, also not hardcore country. With "Detroit City", Bobby knew what his future would be; it was followed by "500 Miles From Home" (a variation on other renditions) and a lot of other listenable hits. I would like to have seen "That's How I Got to Memphis" written by Tom T. Hall in this compilation, but what IS here is good. Bobby had one of the great voices in modern country music. I recommend this one.
Bareing Down.......2002-07-14
Politicians promise a chicken in every pot.
Bobby Bare's Detroit City CD should be in every home.
I don't usually listen to lyrics, but his lyrics on Detroit City
are humorous and logical. Tequila Sheila is a bombshell!
