Born of the Southern literary tradition, New Orleans' Grayson Capps spins profound and poetic tales, marrying them to steamy front-porch blues and deep rooted Americana. He calls to mind comparisons to Townes Van Zandt, JJ Cale and Steve Earle, but clearly has the making of a singular, iconoclastic talent in his own right.

He was first introduced nationally on the hit soundtrack to the Scarlett Johansson/John Travolta film, A Love Song For Bobby Long, in which four of Capps’ songs were featured.

Grayson Capps’ debut album, If You Knew My Mind, was produced by Trina Shoemaker whose resume includes Sheryl Crow, Queens of the Stone Age and Whiskeytown, among others. Throughout the record, Capps husky, whiskey-soaked vocals bring to life the down, but never out, characters who reside in his songs. Greasy slide riffs and finger picked steel guitar create the foundation for stomp-on-the-floorboard grooves, sanctified funk, earth grown soul and gospel refrains. This is music of the South, written on the outskirts of New Orleans and in the backwoods of Alabama, and as real as a deep breath of fresh bayou air.

Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.

If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

I first heard Grayson Capps when I purchased the soundtrack to "Love Song for Bobby Long". I love the sort of blues/folk/rock sound of his songs. The quality of his voice is earthy and sexy. If I had to compare him to someone, I'd have to say he is like a male Lucinda Williams. I also like his songs that evoke the south..Louisiana in particular...brings back memories of my childhood. I would definitely recommend this CD!

Grayson is Pure Magic.......2006-03-01

He calls it "Rott-n-Roll". What it is...is pure, raw, soulful music that comes from deep inside a very complex and compelling storyteller. He's a little bit poet, a little bit thespian and a whole lot of genuine talent! I have the honor of calling him my friend, but if you never meet him, you need only to hear this album to love him!

I lucked into Stavin Chain 's CD " Wine".......2006-01-22

in a pawnshop in Petal , Mississippi...listened to it, DAMN , who are these guys??? The song Harley -Davidson is one of the best songs ever written....Finally discovered, it was Mr Capps who was the driving force behind Stavin Chain.I LIKE this CD too, it lacks some of the rawness of the 2 SC CDs, but its really really good. He is a soul-touching songwriter, and i rarely ever listen to words in songs, being a guitar player.I'm always listening for the tasty licks and these are here too !!! BUY THEM ALL !!!!! Marty
