He could be the most low-key superstar in the entire pop arena. While almost anyone can name two or three Robert Palmer songs off the top of their head, it's startling to see all his monster hits packaged together and to realize just how many there were. Was Robert Palmer really this big and important? Actually, yes. With nineteen songs in this collection, ten are perennial FM staples--a higher number overall than anyone this side of ZZ Top. 1980's Clues is the critics' choice. But Palmer's commercial high point was 1985's Riptide and the Power Station album of the same year. All are well represented. For even more Palmer, try the two-part Addictions series. --Gavin McNett

Amazon.com essential recording
The voice of Edith Piaf carries with it perhaps more national identity than that of any other recorded artist in the world. Tiny, frail, and tragic in her life, Piaf brought French identity to the rest of the world in a way that was understandable to all. Known as "the Little Sparrow" in her country, her voice was strong, bold, and passionate, even as she grew more infirm. The archetypical torch singer, she had massive popular success with songs like "Milord," "Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien," and "La Vie, L'Amour," included here with 18 other classics. While this is a great compilation of some of her best material, the complete lack of enclosed notes or biographical material may frustrate those not familiar with her fascinating career. However, the work of one of the most original songbirds of all time speaks loud and clear for itself. --Derek RathCustomer Reviews:

The cynic may question just how many Beach Boys greatest hits albums are enough. Everyone else, however, will appreciate what makes Sounds of Summer unique. This is the first single-disc collection to feature such a large cross section of hits from the group's entire career, spanning 1962's "Surfin' Safari" through 1988's "Kokomo." All 30 tracks, spanning several label changes, were Billboard Top 40 hits and are probably now as identifiable as the national anthem to anyone with radio or TV access. The fact that the tracks aren't in chronological order helps make for a fresh listening experience, as does the crisp digital sound. And yet these songs--even those that are more than four decades old--always sound strangely fresh and will likely remain so as long as there are beaches, young people, and that symbolic season of freedom and dreams. Which is to say that the title here passes the "truth in advertising" test. Perfect for those casual fans not yet ready to spring for the individual albums, Sounds of Summer is in many ways a better representation of this legendary band's art than Elvis' 30 No. 1 Hits and The Beatles 1 were of the King and the Fab Four. --Bill HoldshipAmazon.com

Summer music is here --- again!.......2007-06-14
Don't Worry, Baby is a personal favorite but it's the mono version. However, listening to it on a nice set of speakers makes it sound like it's in stereo. I would have liked "Warmth of the Sun" included in this collection but hey, 30 of the best Beach Boys songs on one CD, I'm not complaining!
The perfect Beach Boys collection for casual fans.......2007-06-14
However, since this CD contains only the band's "top 40 singles", serious fans will find this collection a little less appealing since some of the Beach Boys' best music {including many good recordings after 1966} never made the top 40. Several of these songs such as "Let him run wild", "Catch a Wave", "Warmth of the Sun", and "Girls on the Beach" are not included in this otherwise excellent collection. Much of this worthy lesser-known material has just been reissued on the new highly recommended compilation "The Warmth of the Sun".
This is only a minor issue of course since "Sounds of Summer" is surely one of the most comprehensive greatest hits collections ever released by any band. ALL of the Beach Boys hit singles are here on one disc, which makes this an essential CD for every Beach Boys fan.

Album Description
One of the most enduring acts in American music, Peter Paul And Mary both defined and transcended the 1960s folk revival. The trio's passionate commitment to peace and social justice made them the conscience of an era as they soulfully communicated political concerns through music in an unprecedented way. At the same time that they reached millions with their social message, they acheived phenomenal mass popularity.Customer Reviews:

Anyway, I held back a star just because there were a couple of songs omitted, such as the trios' haunting rendition of "Polly Vaughn" that I would really have like to have seen included. Oh well, I've been told 'you can't have everything." How 'bout 4 and 1/2 stars?
Hearing "The Great Mandala" again made the search well worth while. It is one of Peter, Paul & Mary's most dramatic & uncompromising hits.

This packed double-disc is the slim option for fans who find the Eagles' vaunted greatest hits sets too little and the boxed set too hefty. Hit singles large and medium are here, often ("One of These Nights," "Hotel California") still sounding definitive and even tough. Large helpings of favorite album cuts are also included, along with a taster from a promised 2004 Eagles studio reunion. Unfortunately, "Hole in the World," Don Henley's response to September 11, feels just as empty and entitled as "Get Over It," the band's previous state-of-the-union message (from which the newer song represents a philosophical 180-degree turn). But for those seeking an overview of this Southern California juggernaut's successes, as well as telling comments from band members--mostly Henley and Frey--in a well-designed booklet, Very Best will more than do. --Rickey WrightCustomer Reviews:
Dollars and (common) cents........2007-06-14
The Eagles are great. Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Joe Walsh. I'm sure glad Hell froze over for them. Not that their recordings as the Eagles have been any good since then, but at least we might get a chance to see them live in concert.
This CD is the 'Greatest Hits' I've been waiting for. No longer do you have to buy their 'Greatest Hits - 1971 to 1975' for $14 and also their 'Greatest Hits - Vol. 2' for $15, in order to get all of their best work. There are $16 worth of great songs on here, but it will cost you $20 for the CD on Amazon. The songs are: CD 1: Tracks 1,2,3,4,7,8,13,14,15 & 17; CD 2: Tracks 1,3,5,7,9 & 10.
Better yet, all of the songs I've listed are available on iTunes. So buy each of the 16 songs individually on iTunes and save yourself $4.
Hope this helps.

In the midst of the late 1970s punk/new wave revolution, England's Supertramp tore a page from the Genesis playbook, suffusing their previously overwrought prog-rock influences and bittersweet hippie optimism gone sour with muscular pop hooks. They eventually became one of the world's foremost rock acts--and later a rich source for contemporary TV commercial music. But while Supertramp peaked quickly, they nonetheless spawned at least two bona fide classic albums--Crime of the Century and Breakfast in America--and a slate of FM radio staples, all of which are included on this near 80-minute anthology. Fully three-quarters of Crime is represented, and rightly so. That 1974 album both stripped down and reinvented the band's sound, centering it around the songs of Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson, pulsing electric piano chords, and distinctively reedy vocals on tense, spare songs like "Bloody Well Right" and "Dreamer." But by the time of the multiplatinum Breakfast, they had refined their edgy prog sensibility to virtual extinction with well-crafted pop hits like "The Logical Song" and "Take the Long Way Home." This well-chosen collection spans a decade, but focuses intently on the five great years that cemented Supertramp's reputation. --Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:

From the perspective of 15 subsequent platinum albums and 20 top-10 hits, it's hard to imagine that Chicago began their career as a bona fide prog-fusion act, an early FM radio favorite whose jazz-tinged, album-length suites found them a hip cult following even as they confounded label execs. Ironically, when the pioneering horn band (a contemporary of Blood, Sweat & Tears and inspiration for one-hit wonders like Lighthouse, Ides of March, and Ten Wheel Drive) relented and allowed their music to be edited down to single length, their success was explosive. Most of the "single edits" on disc 1 of this 39-track anthology provide ample evidence of that de facto formula: a catchy riff ("25 or 6 to 4," "Saturday in the Park," "Color My World") develops into a hook-filled, pop-savvy production rife with the band's trademark horn perfection. One could argue that that sensibility--and a midcareer tilt toward producer David Foster, songwriter Diane Warren, and the MOR ballads that became some of their biggest successes--degenerated into formula. Indeed, there's much on the second disc to support that notion. This set spans it all, showcasing newly refocused edits of some their biggest early hits and lesser-known tracks like their lively '95 cross-cultural collaboration with the Gipsy Kings on a cover of Louis Prima's swing classic "Sing, Sing, Sing." --Jerry McCulleyAlbum Description

Spanning 22 years, this double-disc, 36-track compilation chronicles the initially unlikely and ultimately triumphant conflation of a failing, veteran English neo-blues band (Mick Fleetwood and the McVies) with a pair of mercurial American also-rans (the baroque folk-rock genius Lindsey Buckingham and crypto-songbird Stevie Nicks). The creative alchemy was immediate, as 15 epochal tracks ("Dreams," "Say You Love Me," "The Chain," "Don't Stop") from Fleetwood Mac and Rumours here attest. They could have arguably repeated that mega-successful formula for a decade, but chose a more musically expansive tack, represented "Sara," Think About Me" and the other core tracks drawn from the ambitious Tusk. While the band's megahit luster faded as the solo careers of Buckingham and Nicks took flight in the '80s, their power was still apparent in the dusky-bright pop of Christine McVie's "Hold Me" and "Little Lies." Sequenced with compelling listening rather than chronology in mind, this set also includes the strongest of the Mac's latter-day recordings (Nicks's "Paper Doll," "Silver Springs," and "No Questions Asked"; McVie's "As Long As You Follow"), as well the Lindsey Buckingham showcases "Go Insane" and "Big Love" from '97's The Dance. --Jerry McCulleyAlbum Description

THIS IS FLEETWOOD MAC'S GREATEST COMPILATION MASTERPIECE EVER!.......2006-12-28
What can I say about the great legendary Fleetwood Mac that hasn't already been said? I'm confident that you were already aware that Fleetwood Mac were already legendary before the megastar line-up of the beautiful Stevie Nicks, the beautiful Christine McVie, the gracefully talented Lindsay Buckingham and the multi-talented masterminds and founders of Fleetwood Mac, John McVie and Mick Fleetwood. Fleetwood Mac would be known worldwide as the band that contained three of Rock's greatest guitarists that would ever play together in one band on the same stage! I'm talking about the great Peter Green, Danny Kirwan and Jeremy Spencer! After all three guitarists along with guitarist Bob Welch departed Fleetwood Mac in the 70's, the band was at a crossroads and McVie, Fleetwood and a young beauty named Christine Perfect (Soon to be McVie) were only left with their name! When Fleetwood and both McVie's traveled to California U.S.A., it would not take very long before Fleetwood Mac Mach II would be born and set the stage and the whole world on fire! The beautiful Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham would be the needed ingredients that would complete the NEW AND IMPROVED FLEETWOOD MAC! Fleetwood Mac will not only be remembered for having four of the greatest legendary guitarists in all of Rock n' Roll history, but for having two of the most beautiful angelic female voices in the history of Rock n' Roll! That's right, you guessed it, I'm talking about the beautiful Stevie Nicks and the beautiful Christine McVie! Nicks' voice is one that you will definitely recognize! Her voice, like Janis', Grace Slick's and Ann Wilson's from Heart, has a very husky, crisp and raw voice that will give you goose bumps and shake you down to the bone! Christine McVie also has a husky, crisp and raw voice that will send shivers right up your spine! I love all these beauties voices but I'm only going to talk about Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie! In my opinion, this whole album is nothing but outstanding and brilliant! Every single song track in this album is great!
There are so many songs listed in this album! I would love to review all the songs in this album especially since all of these songs are my favorite! It is extremely hard for me to choose one over the other! Rather than list and briefly review all the song tracks in this album, I will only list and review my most favorite song tracks in their original exact running order as follows: DISC ONE (1.) "Monday Morning," (Outstanding! Brilliant! Superb! I LOVE THIS SONG! This is a great Rocker!) (2.) "Dreams," (Outstanding! Brilliant! Superb! Another great Rocker! this is one of Nicks' greatest Lead Vocal contributions to Fleetwood Mac! The musical arrangements blend and harmonize perfectly with Nicks' angelic voice! I love this song dearly!) (3.) "You Make Loving Fun," (Outstanding! Brilliant! Superb! I love this Rocker! Christine McVie sings this song with such grace and beauty that you cannot help but be trapped in her trance!) (4.) "Go Your Own Way," (Outstanding! Brilliant! Superb! Another great Rocker! I love this song dearly!) (5.) "Rhiannon," (Outstanding! Brilliant! Superb! This song is quite simply, Ms. Stevie Nicks! Nicks' blistering merciless mystic Lead Vocals in this song will have you begging for more! I love this this beautiful song so dearly!) (6.) "Say You Love Me," (Outstanding! Brilliant! Superb! I love this mild Rocker! This is quite simply, Christine McVie! Her blistering merciless Lead Vocals in this song will shake you to your roots! I love it!) (8.) "Silver Springs," (Outstanding! Brilliant! Superb! A beautiful Nicks number! This song was originally an outtake from the legendary "RUMOURS" album! This song would eventually see its day in the light and premiere in the Fleetwood Mac live reunion album and DVD "THE DANCE" from 1997! This is Stevie Nicks at her absolute BEST! I love it!) (9.) "Over My Head," (Outstanding! Brilliant! Superb! This song is quite simply, Christine McVie! I love her Lead Vocals in this one! The musical arrangements are perfect for McVie's most angelic voice!) (11.) "Sara," (Outstanding! Brilliant! Superb! Another great mild Nicks' Rocker! This is again, Stevie Nicks at her absolute BEST! I love her sweet angelic voice in this one!) (14.) "Landslide," (Outstanding! Brilliant! Superb! This is quite simply, S-t-e-v-i-e N-i-c-k-s! This is one hell of a beautiful song! I love Nicks' most beautiful angelic voice in this one! The acoustic arrangements blend beautifully with Nicks' beautiful Lead Vocals! I also love the lyrics to this song!) (15.) "Songbird" (Outstanding! Brilliant! Superb! This is the most emotional that I have ever heard Christine McVie ever sing! This is one of the most beautiful songs that Fleetwood Mac ever recorded! Christine's voice is so angelic that you can't help but feel absorbed into her hypnotic trance!) and (16.) "Big Love." (Outstanding! Brilliant! Superb! This song is quite simply, Mr. Lindsay Buckingham! Buckingham kicks a*s and shows how it's done on the acoustic guitar! Lindsay's Lead Vocals sounds as if he is pleading for your attention which I'm sure he gets!) Now, its on to DISC TWO (1.) "The Chain," (Outstanding! Brilliant! Superb! Another great trademark Mac number! I love this song!) (2.) "Don't Stop," (Outstanding! Brilliant! superb! Another great trademark Mac number! This song kicks a*s! I love the musical arrangements in this song! Another song I love dearly!) (4.) "Gypsy," (Outstanding! Brilliant! Superb! This song is again, quite simply, Stevie Nicks! I love her beautiful angelic yet powerful Lead Vocals in this one! This song kicks a*s as well!) (6.) "Little Lies," (Outstanding! Brilliant! Superb! This song is quite simply, BOTH Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie! Both their angelic voices blend and harmonize beautifully and perfectly together in this one! I love it!) (7.) "Think About Me," (Outstanding! Brilliant! Superb! This is one GREAT ROCKER! I love Christine's powerful and angelic Lead Vocals in this one! WOW! I LOVE IT!) (9.) "Gold Dust Woman," (Outstanding! Brilliant! Superb! Another great Nicks Lead Vocal arrangement! This is another song with Nicks at her ABSOLUTE BEST! I LOVE IT!) WOW, I AM NEVER GOING TO FINISH THIS REVIEW WITH ALL OF THE GREAT SONGS IN THIS ALBUM! (10.) "Hold Me," (Outstanding! Brilliant! Superb! This is another great song! This is Christine at her ABSOLUTE BEST! Her angelic voice blends perfectly with the music in this one! I LOVE IT DEARLY!) (13.) "Everywhere" (Outstanding! Brilliant! Superb! This is one hell of a great song! Christine sings this song beautifully and gracefully! Well done Christine! I LOVE IT!) and (16.) "As Long As You Follow." (Outstanding! Brilliant! Superb! Another great Christine McVie number! I love her Lead Vocals in this one! Her voice sounds so beautiful that I can NEVER get tired of listening to her or Stevie sing! What great breathtaking voices!) If I left any of your favorites out, please forgive me! I deeply apologize on my part! Overall, this is one great hell of an album! Really, every single song track in this album is nothing less than outstanding and brilliant!
As you can see, this is definitely a treasure album worth purchasing that he or she should definitely own as a valuable part of his or her personal music collection. This priceless gem will definitely be enjoyed and cherished for many more years to come, NOW AND FOREVER!
In closing, Fleetwood Mac are TRUE LEGENDS! I know for fact that we haven't seen or heard the last of Fleetwood Mac yet! This band still has so much to give to the whole world in general! Forgive me for saying this and I do not mean to offend anyone or anybody especially the bandmembers! Listening to all these brilliant well recorded songs gives me the feeling that Nicks and McVie were in DEEP competition with each other, am I wrong? I REALLY HOPE I AM! But when you have two great female singers in the same band, there's bound to be some form of friction between the two! The reason why I am questioning this is because McVie does not appear in the most recent Fleetwood Mac release "SAY YOU WILL" from 2003! I really do hope that I am wrong in making this statement and I would love to see McVie back in the Mac line-up where she so rightly belongs! Here's to you Fleetwood Mac! Keep persevering! Thanks for reading my long review and I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it for your reading pleasure. I also hope that you will read all of my other reviews in the near future when time permits. Long Live Fleetwood Mac! Long Live Rock n' Roll! Rock out always and take care. Forever in Rock, J.L.

Kicking off A&M's ambitious Cat Stevens reissue program is this 20-song introduction. The set surveys all of Stevens's stages, from the orchestrated late-1960s sides through his early-'70s peak to his more eclectic late-1970s experiments. Following the progression makes for an interesting endeavor as Stevens learns to harness his ambitious ideas with arrangements that don't obscure his rhapsodic messages. Few artists of his generation were more gifted when it came to plucking timeless melodies out of thin air, and his sumptuous voice was always able to movingly convey his bittersweet lyrics. As a career overview (including one previously unreleased cut) this set achieves its goal, hitting all of the chart successes along the way and basically defining his role as a sensitive '70s singer-songwriter, but some fans may opt for the classic early-'70s studio records, which find Stevens at his most consistently touching. --Marc GreilsamerCustomer Reviews:

From Amazon.co.uk
Despite the photographic presence of an acoustic guitar (the rock & roll equivalent of a rubber bullet), the enviably lovely hair and the unassuming knitwear, Sheryl Crow is staring back at us from the cover of The Very Best Of with her chin resting on a fist clenched tightly with white-knuckled defiance. This is, after all, the girl whose wishful thinking led her to sing "All I wanna do is have some fun" while privately preferring to either curl up in bed for a very long time or roll over and die (she's recently come out of the closet with regards to her longstanding battles with depression). Yes, she's earned herself an armful of Grammys and has been damned with faint praise, but if you go easy on the relatively troublesome second half of Sheryl Crow's 10-year solo career (the poppy optimism of songs like "C'mon C'mon" and "Soak Up the Sun" seems strained), then this decade-acknowledging resumé serves as a reminder of her narrative talents for summarising the pitfalls of burdensome workloads ("Everyday Is a Winding Road") and problematic squeezes ("My Favorite Mistake") within an MTV-friendly pop framework. --Kevin MaidmentCustomer Reviews:

Enjoyable yet not sensational.......2007-03-18
Although I like Sheryl's voice texture and some of her songs are good enough (All I wanna do, Picture, Every day is a winding road) I also found some others to be 'overcommercial', as in dagerously approaching pop (and I don't like the term 'pop-rock', pop and rock are miles apart), for example 'the first cut is the deepest' and 'I wanna soak up the sun'.
I was also disappointed that 'Tomorrow never dies' (The James Bond theme) was not included. And I have to admit, even though her 'Sweet child of mine' version is nothing like the original (which is my Guns n' Roses all time favourite) I would prefer it in the collection rather than others.
Overall, as a greatest hits collection is satisfactory, and if you are into this music you will probably like it. Most of Crow's known work is there, and is quite entertaining as well. The truth is, I bought it three years ago, listened to it a handful of times, and since then is has been living on my CD rank. I thought about selling it but at the end I decided to keep it. I don't know if this makes sense. If it doesn't I apologise...
