When you come up with the most-played radio hit of the year, there is no need to wrack your brains for a follow-up. Lifehouse, who earned such a distinction with 2001's highly addictive "Hanging by a Moment," shrewdly stick to the emotional guitar-rock palette of that breakthrough single for most of their second album. "I wouldn't change a thing," frontman Jason Wade declares on the searing "Spin," and the band follows through on powerful, life-affirming tracks such as "Wash" and "Take Me Away." Produced by Ron Aniello (Days of the New), mixed by Brendan O'Brien (Pearl Jam, U2), and written primarily between tours, this is the kind of ambitious and endearing album that suggests its makers won't settle for anything less than global domination. --Aidin Vazari

Lifehouse Asserts Itself with Sophomore Effort.......2007-05-23
1. Spin- 8/10 rating
First single off the album. A catchy tune with a rockin hook but one could do without the singing during the bridge and the lengthy instrumental at the end of the song that the radio cuts out.
2. Wash- 7/10 rating
A solid tune that starts out with a distorted guitar and builds up to a catchy chorus.
3. Sky Is Falling- 8/10 rating
Very melodic and beautiful song.
4. Anchor- 6/10 rating
This song is good, but one can become lost in the chorus when Wade becomes very difficult to understand, not one of the best songs on the album.
5. Am I Ever Gonna Find Out- 7/10 rating
A forceful song that ends as quickly as it begins. A new sound for Lifehouse on this song, and a good one at that.
6. Stanley Climbfall- 10/10 rating
A beautiful ballad, this song is flawless both musically and lyrically. Possibly the best song on the album.
7. Out Of Breath- 8/10 rating
Similar to the smash "Hanging By a Moment" as far as tempo is concerned, this is another catchy rock tune from the boys.
8. Just Another Name- 6/10 rating
Not one of the best songs on the album, this mid-tempo tune loses the listener in the boring chorus.
9. Take Me Away- 10/10 rating
The second single off the album, this is another masterpiece from Lifehouse. Rivals "Stanley Climbfall" as the best track on the cd.
10. My Precious- 6/10 rating
A dull song that Wade wrote in a similar way to "Hanging By a Moment" where he wrote it during the recording of this album. Too bad the result of this song wasn't as successful.
11. Empty Space- 9/10 rating
Beautiful ballad with wonderful lyrics.
12. The Beginning- 9/10 rating
Another wonderful song that builds up to a strong bridge.
13. How Long- 9/10 rating
A great bonus song about the 9/11 attacks, this song shows off the emotinal side of Lifehouse.
14. Sky Is Falling (Acoustic)- 8/10 rating
Great rendition of a great song
Overall, this is a marvelous cd from the boys of Lifehouse. Although they may not garner as much airplay with any of these songs as they did with the freakishly popular smash "Hanging by a Moment," this cd will get its share of radio hits and will help further the career of these talented musicians.
Impressive.......2007-01-31
After the success of 'No Name Face', I had pretty high expectations of 'Lifehouse' but this one just didn't seem to live up to those expectations. In that respect I would get the third album 'Lifehouse' before this one because the band grew older with their melodies and matures more. This album won't leave you feeling satisfied as a customer if you are new to 'Lifehouse'.

Stanley Climbfall - Going from strength to strength.......2005-02-17
And I was not disappointed one little bit. Lifehouse has gone from strength to strength and built on the success from the other two albums. It is their coming of age in the music scene. All the songs on this album just like No Name Face are enjoyable to listen to and have a intrinsic meaning to them and are sung by Jason Wade with a gusto that belies his years.
The songs that stand out are 3. Sky Is Falling, 9. Take Me Away and the two bonus tracks of How Long? and the Beginning took my breath away. The music of Lifehouse to me is important and will remain so for a long time to come. It gives me strength in times of weakness and pain and brings me smiles in times when things look down.
Wow..and wow.....and wow!.......2005-02-02
Not "No Name Face", but good anyway.......2005-01-22
I was initially under the impression that "Stanley Climbfall" didn't measure up to its predecessor "No Name Face" because it wasn't as popular. But when I heard the CD, I learned that Lifehouse did retain its edge after all.
The first track is "Spin", which I think was the only "Stanley Climbfall" song that was as widely recognizable as the big NNF hits like "Hanging by a Moment", "Sick Cycle Carousel" & "Breathing". This song is so pulsatingly good, it pulls you in so you can hear the whole album. Nice.
I really loved the songs "Wash", "Am I ever gonna find out", "Stanley Climbfall", "The Beginning" and of course "Sky is Falling". If there was an american music award for most artfully written lyrics, of course these guys'd take the cake. The add-on tracks, "How Long" and the acoustic "Sky is Falling", make for lovely bonuses too. Some of the other songs don't have as much lasting power as the NNF songs, and other widely-known alternative hits for the matter, but the Lifehouse signature style is still there.
Flipping through the CD inlay may be a bit baffling, but then these guys are making an artistic statement.
"Stanley Climbfall": not the greatest alternative album in the world, but still worth a listen. Just say no to musical crud.
Great + Extra Tracks = Extra Great.......2005-01-07
Lifehouse at its core is a very formulaic rock structure not unlike the hundreds of bands that were formed after the mainstream success of Matchbox Twenty, Goo Goo Dolls, Foo Fighters, etc. The structure of every song is a predictable derivative of ABACAB. This unfortunately means that many people will too quickly write this band off, when closer inspection will reveal something very surprising underneath. While Lifehouse is just another band using ABACAB, they do it better than most bands out there.
It is because of the sound they chose being so popular among bands that they are forced to do it better than the rest. It is because they do it better than the rest that, even though they are not unique at what they do, they are one of the best at it. Their lyrics are not unprecidented, yet they will stick in your mind. The guitar solos are not exactly complex, yet you hear more to the music than the notes they play.
In my opinion, part of this success is due to exactly the same reason others will denounce it. That is, we have all heard this sound so many times before that we expect a certain feel to come from it--and then Lifehouse delivers. We know the formulas so well that we expect B to follow A, then A again, then C, but Lifehouse manages to please you by causing you to anticipate a certain pattern--and then Lifehouse delivers. I am not trying to imply an evil master strategy or psychology from 1984, but Lifehouse knows what we like from past precident--and then Lifehouse delivers.
Jason Wade's vocals take on the typical angst-ridden boy band lead vocals, but you can hear gems scattered throughout the songs that have to have been inspired by Van Morrison and Eddie Vedder. Wade's vocals are another instrument in the mix that plays to peak performance where it needs to.
Given the talent shown in the first two albums, I see no reason why they cannot continue to be a great success for years to come as long as they do three things: 1) Stay together, because too many bands that could have been something self-destructed when success was near. 2) Evolve with the style of the times, even if only slightly to maintain the fans they already have. 3) Keep writing music, because they are in that perilous area right now where they can be easily forgotten if they don't fight for the limelight.
It is truly a surprise to find such a talented band on the inside that only appears at first glance to be just another typical band.
