There's only one word that comes immediately to mind when describing Anberlin's Never Take Friendship Personal release. The word? Amazing. This is one of those truly remarkable releases that is so refreshing, so defining, and so well done, you will feel a need to let every know about it. Much like Switchfoot's The Beautiful Letdown and D.C. Talk's Jesus Freak, Anberlin's second release captures the musical styles of the day but recasts them in a unique and exciting way. Much credit up front should go to producer Aaron Sprinkle, who never lets the music overshadow Steven Christian's emotive alto vocals. Joseph Milligan's guitar work is nothing short of phenomenal and propels such blistering tracks like "Paperthin Hymn," "Runaways," and "Feel Good Drag." Let's not forget the rock-steady rhythm from drummer Nathan Young and bassist Deon Rexroat that continually lays down a concrete foundation. Also worthy of note is the intelligent songwriting that prevails throughout the release, showing that Christian-based bands don't always check their brains at the studio door. Moody at times, exhilarating at others, this is a giant leap forward for a relative newcomer in Christian music. It's also a release worthy of widespread acclaim and a breath of fresh air in a genre that is sadly growing all too predictable. --Michael Lyttle

5 out of 5 stars This album is just amazing.........2007-06-12

I just got this album a few days ago, so i have yet to determine my favorite songs or even the names of songs. This cd has yet to leave my ears. When I'm driving..Never Take friendship personal..on the computer..NTFP..even at work..NTFP. I bought Cities before i bought this cd and this cd is even better than Cities..some how. This cd is incredible it mixes every single great part of rock into this cd. Extremely catchy breakdown, powerful, emotional vocals, great lyrics, and choruses and verses that are almost too addictive. There is honestly nothing to hate on this album if you like any genre of rock. There's an amazing slow rock ballad, fast-paced songs with some guitar solos..and that's just the beginning. Some songs that i remember singing in my head constantly are Paperthin Hymn, the feel good drag, a day late, and dance with... I also love the song start the revolution (i think thats what its called) Buying this cd will be the best decision you will ever make and it is worth every penny...oh yeah and see them live if your the slighest fan of anberlin..which i know you are

4 out of 5 stars Solid album, one of my favorites!.......2007-03-08

I had not heard of Snow Patrol until I heard "Chasing Cars" on the radio, and I bought their cd on a whim. I must say I was not dissapointed. The only reason for 4/5 stars is that a couple of the songs seemed a little off to me. But that is only a couple of songs. You will love this album.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely stunning!.......2007-03-06

This is IMO, Anberlin's strongest album. The only average song on this album, ironically, is the title track. Every other song is stunning and single worthy.

5 out of 5 stars Best CD I've ever heard..........2007-02-19

To start with, my music tastes are quite different from a ton of people out there. Most trendy music these days I find to be absolutely horrible - i.e., pop, rock, and rap. My favorite music genres are videogame soundtracks and techno/electronica, probably because they are generally free of lyrics. I also tend to like anything instrumental due to the same thing. This said, I also am a fairly large fan of classic rock, Pink Floyd, Foreigner, Journey, The Police, etc.

Now that I've conveyed my general musical interests, you have an idea of where the review is coming from. My friend made me listen to yet another band in his car one day and I sighed and said "whatever". About 20 minutes later, I wanted to know the name of the band that played "that song", which happened to be "We Dreamt in Heist" from Anberlin's first CD (Blueprints for the Black Market). I proceeded to check out the entirety of Blueprints that evening and shockingly discovered that a mainstream rock band had taken my musical tastes by storm! Anberlin's sound is so amazing, and for some reason so unique from other rock artists out there these days, and it really hit the spot.

A few weeks later, I got my hand on this CD, Never Take Friendship Personal, and at first I found myself going back to Blueprints for the Black Market. However, a few months later here I am, and I have decided this disc is my favorite not only of Anberlin's, but of any collection of music I have ever heard.

I highly recommend this CD, and in particular Dance, Dance Christa Paffgen. If at first you don't love these songs, listen a couple more times and I guarantee you'll be singing them in the shower. ;)

5 out of 5 stars Great Album.......2007-02-09

I really like this cd a lot and I am looking forward to seeing them live.
