Detroit-bred rocker/rapper Kid Rock has reason to be "cocky," as 1998's multiplatinum Devil Without a Cause established the multifaceted artist with the Southern rock influences as a generally likable braggart able to back up his boasts musically. Rock's Twisted Brown Trucker backup band also spawned a successful solo career for DJ Uncle Kracker, who wrote songs for--but whose turntables aren't on--Cocky. With a little help from fab friends, including actor David Spade, and musicians Sheryl Crow and Snoop Dogg, Cocky covers a mélange of styles, from rap to country, utilizing organ, pedal steel, and harp as well as metallic guitar solos. Ultimately, though, the 14 songs are schizophrenic and not always successful: on "Lonely Road of Faith," Kid Rock turns in a anthemic ballad nearly worthy of Lynyrd Skynrd, whose "Freebird" he samples in the laid-back R&B-flavored "You Never Met a Motherf**ker Quite Like Me," while Crow's vocals on the gentle, country tune "Picture" and the plodding "Midnight Train to Memphis" contrast with the metallic riffs of "I'm a Dog," the nasty "sex rhymes" of "WCSR," and the rapped boasts of the narcissistic title track. Cocky? Indeed. Commendable? Dubious. --Katherine Turman

Superior now than in retrospect .......2007-04-26
Although there are some great old-school style Kid Rock songs on here (such as 'Forever', the self-titled track, and WCSR with Snoop Dogg) , the country-flavored tracks represent a good portion of the album. In fact, there are more country/country-rock songs on here than from any other genre. Some fans will not be able to get over this, but as someone who has more or less outgrown rap-metal they actually come out as refreshing years later. I'm not typically a country fan at all, but songs like 'Lay It On Me', 'What I Learned Out On The Road', and 'Lonely Road of Faith' are very well-done.
Unfortunately, there are also some stinkers on this album as well, such as the hugely overrated single 'Picture', but the good definitely outweighs the bad. Dust off your copy of this and give it a try; you just might like it now.
Surprising.......2007-04-13

It's Bragging When You CAN'T Back It Up.......2006-07-30
The main disappointment is the fact that Kid Rock doesn't stick to what he does best, which is the rapping. One or two country-ish songs could be acceptable in the mix, but putting it on the whole second half of the album doesn't cut it. The rapping or metal screaming placed in his country songs seems really extraneous, as well. There are definitely some good moments, but the album just doesn't live up to its predecessor and it gets old to hear Kid Rock boasting throughout the CD when his material doesn't back it up.
Raw but immature.......2006-03-27

Beautiful album by excellent musicians........2006-03-11
excellent. "Sleepless in Seattle" is an upbeat tune and "Out of Africa" is simply beautiful. An excellent variety and treatment of these movie themes. Highly recommended. P.S. - The above
album title shows artist as "Eddie Gomez" - he does play on the album but Mr. Stoltzman is the "headliner."
This CD is My TREASURY!! .......2006-01-08
And, I was moved to tears.
All the other tunes impress me,too.
This item made Richard Stoltzman to became My Most Favorite Artist of the world.
Now,10years have passed after I boght it.
But it never fades.

Better Edited.......2005-09-18
Anyway, here is a song-by-song review:
1) Trucker Anthem - 4/5 Stars - This song is a good warm-up song which gets the listener warmed up (especially if this is your first Kid Rock album, like myself) to Kid Rock's style and attitude. This song is best listened to in the dark ^_^.
2) Forever - 4/5 - This is the second Kid Rock song I've ever heard (the first being "Only God Knows Why") and it impressed me big-time. This song is more punk rock then quite a few of the other albums on this CD, and it will always be a favorite of mine.
3) Lay It On Me - 3/5 - This song has a nice beat that could almost replace "Trucker Anthem" as a warm-up song... almost.
4) Cocky - 4/5 - This song is more punk than the previous 3 songs and is the general themes of the first three songs mixed togehter.
5) What I Learned Out On The Road - 3/5 - This song is OK if you listen to it once, but gets tired after that.
6) I'm Wrong But You Ain't Right - 5/5 - This is the best song on the entire album and is punk rock at its best.
7) Lonely Road of Faith - 3.5/5 - Without the ending, this song would really suck.
More to come!

Album Description
Over the summer of 2004 The Habit played a number of big gigs - including a show for 20,000 people at Ottawa Pride, a high-tech set that was broadcast live on radio stations across Canada, and a show on Parliament Hill. But the band loves the smaller venues most, where the magic is more tangible - their element is the living room, or a porch in summertime. Capturing some of that magic was the idea behind The June Sessions, a 6-track CD released in November 2004 with a packed launch party at Zaphods in Ottawa. The CD was recorded at Ottawa's mystical Little Bullhorn Studios on 2" tape, with everyone sitting around playing in the same room and bleeding into each other's microphones. For the listener, the result is audio voyeurism.
