Two comely teenage lesbian lovers from Russia who happen to sing? That seems more like marketing masterstroke than pop music likelihood, so it's fair to question the authenticity of t.A.T.u.'s English language debut. It's impossible to know where t.A.T.u.'s talent begins and ends and just how much influence their various handlers and producer Trevor Horn had over 200 Km/h in the Wrong Lane, but it's probably a moot point to the intended demographic. Horn's background working with electro-pop dandies Pet Shop Boys and Frankie Goes to Hollywood is evident in the crisp, driving synth cushioning singers Lena Katina and Julia Volkova's gossamer vocals. Wink-nudge lyrical references to girls loving girls--presented in serviceable if phonetic English--are in evidence, though they're more coy than graphic. "All the Things She Said," a sparkly, chorus-driven rave-up, seems to make the case for sexual equality, while "Show Me Love"--which appears in regular and extended versions--is a dance floor missive aimed straight at the clubs. Best, though, is an unintentionally ironic cover of the Smiths' "How Soon Is Now." The song, a benchmark of loneliness and hopelessness, is utterly transformed into a chirpy duet which, all things considered, may be the best gimmick of all! --Kim Hughes

One thing I just wanted to add, the song Malchik Gay... the english translation is Gay boy, so, yeah...if you have something against gays, this band is not for you considering they are gay.
Please...please, take my advice: Buy this immediately........2006-09-25
What makes this so appealing to me is the dark undertone in every song. None of this is truly radio-friendly -- the lyrics range from poetic ("All this weeping in the air/who can tell where it will fall?/Through floating forests in the air/'Cross the rolling open sea") that fit perfectly with the ethreal melody ("Clowns"), to, well, educated ("Random acts of mindlessness/commonplace occurences/chances and surprises/another state of consciousness). Too educated, in fact, to make it onto the radio or achieve true chart stardom (this album went gold -- good, but nothing special).
The ranges of the singers are very versatile -- one has a lower register with belting capabilities, the other a breathy soprano. They fit together nicely and the overall mastery this album exhibits -- vocally (mainstream vocals, that is), lyrically, and musically, makes it worth your purcahse.

I like all the songs, "How Soon Is Now?" on top of them.......2004-04-13
These energetic beats tell feelings that teens feel: like an exile, misunderstood, longing for affection. I am many years beyond teenage, though, but I still love t.A.T.u.
I have collected 3 of their CDs, including the Remix.
Others of my favorite artists are: the Cure, the Smiths, the Cranberries, Bjork, and Dido.
Excellent!.......2003-08-23

If t.A.T.u didn't exist - I wouldn't have a CD collection!.......2003-11-15
This Asian edition of the girls' album is one of the best import editions made.
There are fast-upbeat pop tracks like Not Gonna Get Us, Clowns (Can You See Me Now?) and the Russian version Nas Ne Dagonait (New Edit) which make you screaming to go faster.
There are also slightly mellower tracks like 30 Minutes and Malchik Gey, which just give you a bit of a winding down after a hard day out. Trust me - they are cool tracks
Then you get the dance/electro pop songs such as All The Things She Said, Malchik Gay Remix and Ya Shosla S Uma (New Edit), which just give a dancefloor feel.
Then it's the electric guitar strum songs - a.k.a "Alternative Rock." This is my fave category - since my fave bands (apart from t.A.T.u) are Good Charlotte, Evanescence and Linkin Park. This includes my fave song of the whole album Show Me Love (Extended). Also in this genre is Show Me Love, How Soon Is Now? and the Eurovision song that gave them 164 points and a 3rd place - Ne Ver, Ne Boisia.
The only difference of the audio tracks is that the 30 Minutes/Bulchasa Remix is missed off. I HATE that remix anyway - so you won't be missing out on anything.
The DVD has a cool documentary "Julia + Lena are t.A.T.u" which includes interviews, concert footage and recording studio access. Think of yourself as a VIP when watching! Also on the DVD - three music videos: the very controversial "All The Things She Said," the Escape-from-prison-and-run-around-Moscow-in-a-truck "Not Gonna Get Us," and finally - the summing up for the Julia + Lena are t.A.T.u, "How Soon Is Now?"
Finally - this CD would make a great prezzie for anyone. You won't be able to turn it off your stereo! (Unless you have Dvesti Po Vstrechnoi - that is better)
PS: Regarding to The "New Edit" I tagged on Ya Shosla S Uma and Nas Ne Dagoniat - it doesn't really say that. I'm merely saying that the tune is different to the original Russian versions - to be more like the English Versions!

t.A.T.u rocks the modern world of music!.......2005-08-24
Best Rock/Pop Album Ever!.......2003-10-19
Not Gonna Get Us:
Catchy, upbeat, liquid pop. Julia's vocals are stronger than fast acting mouthwash. It's very good, it's quite unique on this album
8/10
All The Things She Said:
This is just as catchy as Not Gonna Get Us. I never get sick of this track, it really is Running Through You Head!
9/10
Show Me Love:
Rock/pop with an awesome edge. This one stands out, it just has something wicked in it. The chorus has a great impact, like no other. Pure "Alternative Rock."
10/10
30 Minutes:
A lot calmer than the rest of the tracks. The piano in this sounds beautiful, and it is a really beautiful song, however, it's not exactly my type of song! It's great to unwind and chill out too though.
6/10
How Soon Is Now?:
This is very different from any other of the tracks, probably because it's a cover. I've never heard the original, but I'm not sure that it could sound better!
9/10
Clowns (Can You See Me Now?)
I can definitely see into this one. Awesome beat, and well-woven lyrics make this one track that you cannot miss.
9/10
Malchik Gay
Hmm. This is a mixture. It's got the lyrics of All The Things She Said and the music...it's a mystery how they got that idea. Nice medium tempo, I like the little disco style bit near the end.
7/10
Stars
Lena sings in English, Julia raps in Russian. A nice, smooth track, the voices go well together at the end.
7/10
Ya Shosla S Uma (I'm Going Mad):
The Russian version of ATTSS, Julia + Lena sound more comfortable singing in Russian.
9.5/10
Nas Ne Dagoniat (They Won't Catch Us):
The Russian version of NGGU. The voices are again better, and the translation is along the same lines as the English version. I like this better than NGGU.
8.5/10
Show Me Love (Extended Version)
Even better than the other Show Me Love, cos it's longer & twice as good! I can't get it out of my brain!
10.5/10
30 Minutes (Remix)
I don't like this one. I think they mixed some Russian lyrics in here at the end. I don't like it, it's too long and dreary. I'd skip this track, unless you want to listen to a boring song for 5 and a half minutes.
4/10
Malchik Gay (Remix)
If you get ATTSS in a blender with pineapple juice, this is what you get. As smooth song all round, with great background style you can only get in a remix. Awesome!
8.5/10
Ne Ver, Ne Boisia:
I was rooting for Russia in the Eurovision, so it's no wonder I like this track! They sing all about Kto-to (Someone) and the chorus is Don't Trust, Don't Fear and Do Not Ask. Awesome Russian rock
9.5/10
The DVD with this has t.A.T.u interviews and Behind-The-Scenes footage. Also includes their three English music videos. Julia can't speak much English, however Lena translates her Russian, and can speak English very well.
THIS IS A GREAT CD, A MUST FOR ANY t.A.T.u FAN!
