Album Description
East German industrial titans follow up 2004's Reise Reise with this fifth studio album, whose title translates as "Rose Red". It consists of leftover material from the Reise Reise sessions which the band felt strong enough to merit a release in its own right. On this album they continue to broaden their palette with a track in Spanish and a duet with Texas's Sharleen Spiteri on "Stirb Nicht Vor Mir" ("Don't Die Before Me"). Includes the single "Benzin" ("Petrol").Customer Reviews:
half steam ahead.......2007-03-23
Don't get me wrong, I love this band, one of my favorites in fact. I just can't say I love most of the songs on this CD like I do on Sehnsucht, Mutter, or Reise Reise. I'm a fan of their older CD's; full of dark, heavy industrial metal, but not so much of this...I'd go as far as saying white noise on this CD. It reminds me of listening to the radio. Theres a few gems to be heard on the radio, but most is filler and consequently, white noise because it all sounds the same.
I did like a few on this CD though. Mann Gegen Mann, Rosenrot, Wo Bist Du, even Don't Die Before I Do, and to a lesser extent, Spring
Definitely not "leftovers," more like dessert!.......2007-03-22
But, if you are reading this, you are a Rammstein fan and you are wondering if you should pick this up. I think so. Mann Gegen Mann (Man Against Man) is a song that some might find offensive if they translate the lyrics, but it is quite catchy. Benzin is okay, perhaps not the best choice to open up the disc. Have I missed any of the songs? Feuer und Wasser (Fire and Water) is another beautiful song. I suppose I'm not the best reviewer because I can't express just how much I love these songs. If I had to pick the best one on the CD, I would go with Wo Bist Du. If you don't speak German, translate the lyrics. It's not just another song about an unrequited love. It's quite haunting. I love it.
The bottom line here is that this CD shouldn't be overlooked or shunned just because these songs "weren't good enough to make it to Reise, Reise." There are some AMAZING tracks here and they deserved to be looked at on their own. There are solid songs, there are a couple (Stirbt nicht vor mir & Ein Lied) that aren't as strong. I don't think any true Rammstein fan would be disappointed with this album. There are loud songs, quieter songs, melodic songs, etc. It's a very good album and my digipak case is becoming quite worn out from multiple listenings. I highly recommend this album to fans of the band, and the genre in general.
Leftovers plus more, these "B-sides" get an A+.......2007-02-12
The songs on here are a good mix of the driving, crunching formula of stomping chants and powerful riffs that we know the band can deliver, but also have a good number of songs that escalate more into a progressive feel. The album starts off with a staunch assault called "Benzin" that has an epic, haunting background of darkness that is backed by forceful guitars. The title track has catchy sounding lyrics that although make little sense to this listener (I don't speak German well) still comes across with great, daunting tone. Another great track that reflects some great guitar work. "Wo Bist Du" is a choppy, crashing tune and has an elegant if not dire synth sound in the background during the chorus parts.
The track "Zerstoren" will excite any Rammstein fan, as it's a fast, frenzied thrashing tune that never lets up in intensity. Eleven tracks in all, "Ein Lied" rounds out the list and is one of my favorites. It starts off slow with a small guitar piece playing along and slowly seeps into a sweeping, harrowing song that is not brutal but stays Melodic and soulful, and is backed by some ghostly singing in the background that one might find in an old Vincent Price film.
I'm not a Rammstein fanatic, just a big fan. Although some scoffed "Rosenrot", its versatile combination of edgy laden metal and drifting, slower paced tracks make it a solid album.
Awesome! Very recommended to any metal lover........2007-01-20
Anyway, good addition to any metal fan's cd collection!
A massive disappointment.......2007-01-18

Seeing as no one else has reviewed this; allow me to inform you.......2006-01-26
1: Rosenrot
This song at first unimpressed me. I admit it; there was all this hype about a song called "Rosenrot" that didn't make it onto Rammstein's fourth album "Reise, Reise" and so when I first heard this song I was unimpressed with the melody, the bassline, the formula. And now: God do I love this song. Much like "Benzin" it becomes oddly addictive and after seeing the music video one can't help but love it unconditionally. It's groovy and pretty and heavy all at once. So there you have it.
2: Tweaker Mix by Chris Vrenna
This mix at first I thought was going to be my favorite on the single because I favor when people remix songs this way. It's got a lot of strings, it's slow and melodic and heavy and very pretty. Groovy and very well done it transitions from being very i don't know- ballad like to being very hard with ease and is greatly likeable.
3:Vorthern Lite Mix by Northern Lite
Much to my surprise this is actually my favorite mix. It starts with accoustic guitars playing the main riff and then is joined by very dance like beats and bass. The vocals are turned down to be lower than the actual song. Good strings. Catchy beeping after the chorus. Heavy and folk and techno all in one. It works very well and again, is another well done mix!
4: 3AM At Cozy Mix by Jagz Kooner
Probably my least favorite of the mixes, but still very good. It's driving and very dancable and again heavy. To me it sounds like the sped up the vocals and stuff to make the song go faster. It's highly filtered and very groovy and upbeat. Much drums and bass. Very good too!
So there you have it. All in all it's sad that this single only has 4 tracks and runs only 19 minutes. The normal "Rosenrot" track is an edit of the album version and is about 7 seconds shorter in the end. I don't know why they made this cut because it's hardly noticable because it's such a short amount of time. Well it's fantastic and I recommend it to all Rammstein fans and anyone who likes heavy groovy and catchy music.

The best German sound.......2006-03-24
This CD is the single version (while in Germany there is a bonus edition that comes with a DVD, which includes Live Performances of the band in Germany and Japan) and contains 11 Tracks of Rammstein's newest songs. You'll have to pay extra if you want the original German version, Amazon does import foreign licensed CDs and bootlegs.
A few of the best songs are Rosenrot (which the album is named after), Mann Gegen Mann (about a Gay man), Wo Bist Du (It's too catchy) and Te Quiero Puta (which is harilous, Rammstein are singing Mexician).
If you are interested in trying a new sound, love bass in your songs or love listening to German bands, this is the CD for you because you'll love it. I know I do. It's a defiant keeper.

Took some getting used to, but plenty of meat here..........2006-03-01
The 3-track live DVD is worth 3/4 of that waiting time, though. Right off the bat! Wahoo!! If you're unable to witness the rich, bulging pageantry that is a live Rammstein show, then this offers an exquisite little taste. The "Mein Teil" Cannibal Floorshow is legendary. (I would only demand MORE SONGS, but for that I'll just go get the full DVD.)
And as for the album itself... After all that time, I was disappointed not to immediately be in love with every song. But I have to agree with popular opinion-- "Zerstoren", "Rosenrot", "Mann Gegen Mann" and "Benzin" fully make up for that last 1/4 of the total waiting-time. Wahoo! I particularly pick "Mann Gegen Mann", which packs more inspired brutality per square-inch of homoeroticism than I've heard since "Bück Dich". And bellowing. Oh, the bellowing! I have missed Mr. Lindemann's gravel-coated-thunder-voice, and he doesn't use it for enough sheer bellowing purposes anymore. :)
Overall there are more slow songs than I expected, and fewer heavy ones of ANY speed... The slow-song population of "Reise, Reise" was leading up to this. But everything is nicely produced, and the balance is only slightly off in favor of slowness. They haven't lost much power over the years, and their composition keeps getting more interesting. "Feuer und Wasser" and "Ein Lied" kind of run together without many distinguishing marks, but are inoffensive. "Wo Bist Du" is a bit heavier but still less flavorful than expected. However, the heinous power-ballad/duet "Stirb Nicht" simply HAS to go, because the whole 'killer-and-girl-victim' song genre just NEVER works (not even Nick Cave or Firewater could make it any good). And "Te Quiero" is dumb, but spirited and freakin HILARIOUS... language-barrier or no. (It's also impossible to get out of your head once it's stuck, so if you don't like it, be careful not to overhear it.)
"Spring" sounds like a mourning-song but is really quite bloodthirsty, & absolutely chilling when you listen to the words. "Hilf Mir" is another fine heavy thumper with amusing/disturbing lyrics (if you remember your 'Struwwelpeter'). "Rosenrot" is another one that gets permanently stuck on the head-radio, as wistful and lovely as it is. "Zerstoeren" seems to be the favorite around here, and it is a truly amazing juggernaut of a song that keeps changing shape from brutal to whimsical to cryptic as you listen-- and with that orgasmic finish. Definitely a dancefloor hit.
It took me the better part of a week to just leave the disk in the CD player & let it play, rather than jumping to only the good tracks. So it takes some getting-to-know, if you're accustomed to old-style Rammstein, but quite worth the evolution.
Nice, yet not memorable........2006-01-05
To begin with, the way I see it and according to the official website, this album is made up from the leftovers of Reise, Reise... that's not a negative side, because the songs are quite nice and this speaks quite well about the quality standards of the band. But not every single song went on with the same concept of the album.
When I first saw the cover I knew that the concept of the album would be more slow, more cold if you understand what I mean with it. It presents us with a very nice concept where the majority of the songs fit perfectly with the cover.
Perhaps the two songs that I would have left out of this album (one because it doesn't wuite fit into the concept of the album and the other one i'll explain later) are "Benzin" (believe it or not) and "Te Quiero Puta".
Benzin is a nice song, but doesn't quite fit in the full album. Perhaps Reise, Reise would have been more complete with it. and the other one... I must admit I didn't know whether to cry or to laugh when I heard it. The lyrics are lame (I'm a native spanish speaker and trust me, looks like a translation that a Pc program would do). And well simply listening to Till sing in spanish with his "verrry marrked Gerrrman accent" isn't something I really enjoy.
Perhaps the songs I'd like to hear live from this album are Rosenrot, Mann Gegen Mann, and perhaps Wo Bist Du?.
About the extra DVD that came with it... I have encountered feelings about it. On one hand we have this amazing approach to how live shows are to be done (all three songs are huge, and the cook stuff in Mein Teil just fits incredibly with the theme of the song) but I get amazingly angry because they cancelled their dates in Mexico and didn't decide to tour for Rosenrot.
The album itself is a very good one, but more energy would have made it timeless.
Make it Short and Sweet..............2005-12-21
It's a really good disc everyone. Solid songs. O, and one more thing, I MEAN THIS WHEN I SAY IT, YOU'LL LOVE THE BONUS DISC!!
RammStein Move From Strength to Strength.......2005-12-17
I will give you a personal run down of the songs, one by one, as this will provide a better review of the album
Benzin- What a fantastic way to start the album. I went to see RammStein live in Glasgow on July 16th 2005, and they played this song, but naturally nobody knew what it was. It was well received then, its even better now! Heavy pounding guitars and an amazing and addicitive chorus. Can't be faulted 5/5
Mann Gegen Mann- This is down for future release as a single, and from start to finish you can see why. Its another superb song. Can't be faulted and again, just so heavy. Its one of my personal favourite RammStein songs ever, I like it that much 5/5
RosenRot- The title song is another gem. Its one of the quieter songs as such on the album. The chorus is very very catchy and the overall package here is a good, solid, very RammStein song. Not the best song on the album though despite it being the title track, but don't let that put you off 4/5
Spring- The fourth song on RosenRot is another absolutely brilliant song. Everything about this song is amazing, the guitars clear and haunting, the keyboards so clean and haunting. Almost a gothic sound at times to this one and it's easily one of the best songs on the album 5/5
Wo Bist Du- This is my personal favourite song on this album so I might be a bit biased here. Just so good it almost brings a tear to your eye. The whole song, again like Spring, has an almost gothic edge to it but that chorus and Till's ever amazing vocals make this a true classic 5/5
Stirbt Nicht Vor Mir- Things have been good so far yeah? Well here is one that I just can't take to. It's a duet with Texas singer Sharleen Spiteri. Trouble is, it sounds more like Texas feturing Till LindeMann than it does RammStein featuring Sharleen Spiteri. Far too quiet, not at all like RammStein in any shape or form. Where are the heavy pounding guitars and thrilling vocals? Not bad, I suppose, but not good either 2/5
ZerStoren- RammStein crank up the form after the disappointing Stirbt Nicht Vor Mir and come up with a very Weisses Fleisch type cracker. Its the heaviest song on the album, but also one of the best. The constant driving riffs and growling vocals all add up to another brilliant song 5/5
Hilf Mir- Very Very RammStein. That's about all I can say. The whole song start to finish has a very clean, crisp and heavy guitar sound and fantastic vocals as always. Brilliant stuff 5/5
Te Queiro Puta!- Sorry guys, RammStein in Spanish does not work for me. Now I'm not usually very critical of RammStein, but I really hate this song. Oh dear. It starts off ok, the opening is a trumpet leading into guitars and everything starts off ok. Until that bleedin' trumpet kicks in in-between EVERY line Till sings after that. Not one I recommend at all, I don't like it at all. No more of this please guys 1/5
Feuer Und Wasser- Reminds me of Nebel from the Mutter album in the way that it opens so very very quiet and then just kicks in with some unbelievable killer guitars and vocals for the equally as fantastic chorus. One of the best songs on the album, and as you can see there have been quite a few of these. My second favourite song personally, next to Wo Bist Du 5/5
Ein Lied- Starts off quiet, continues quiet, ends quiet. This is a very mellowed out affair but not at all anything wrong with that. Its great stuff again. And those keyboards really add to the whole mellow, yet haunting sound of this song 4/5
Overall: What a bloody album! Start to finish, a classic. Songs 6 and 9 are poor as I rated above, but the other nine tracks are some of the best RammStein music there has ever been. Snap up a copy NOW!
