Product Description
The follow up to 2002's 'Drunk Enough To Dance' sees the power-pop-punk quartet keeping to form with another album of sugar coated anthems. With no radical changes on this effort the band pay homage to girls, parties, and their all encompassing influence of the 1980's with references to hair metal and 80's movies throughout. This time round the band have anall-star cast of collaborators including members of Fastball, Nerf Herder and Sugar Ray. The album was produced by Butch Walker (Avril Lavigne, Simple Plan).

5 out of 5 stars Good enough to buy again!.......2007-04-16

I bought this CD when it first came out. Due to heavy usage between my truck and my wife's car, it finally became unplayable. I had to replace it, so thanks to Amazon I got a pretty good price. The shipping price was great, but it did take a little longer than I would have liked.

4 out of 5 stars Very Nice....VERY Nice! .......2007-01-02

As others have noted, this isn't really punk. If that's what you're looking for, you can stop looking here. Just move along.

But this is definitely a fun album, and worth your attention.

"Almost" is a bouncy little song about a near-miss in a relationship. Not terrible, but not great, either - 6/10

"Trucker Hat" really doesn't appeal to me, but it isn't unlistenable. - 4/10

"1985" is just a great anthemic song about the '80's music scene. As others have noted, it's a song penned by another band, but BFS put their mark on it here. - 8/10

"Get Happy" isn't a great song, but I like it somewhat more than "Trucker Hat". 5/10

"Ohio" is just tremendous. It's a silly song about how the state of Texas, collectively, wants the protagonists girlfriend to return. There are references to the Bush twins, Forest Whittaker, and others. It's worth the price of the CD just to hear the list of all the people that "want you back". "I've got a premonition I'm making a petition, and the whole state's gonna sign!". Oh yeah! - 10/10

"Ridiculous" is unremarkable, at best - 4/10

"Shut-Up and Smile" is okay. 6/10

"Last Call Casualty" is catchy, even if it's somewhat light as a song. - 6/10

"Next Ex-Girlfriend" is wonderfully cynical and really energetic. 7/10

"A-hole" is probably the best song on the album. It's about a guy realizing what a...well, what an a-hole he's been to his ex, and how he deserved the dumping he got. It's about as close to a love song as BFS will ever probably write. It's a shame that it won't get a lot of airplay outside of satellite radio (if even there). Even if you never listen to another BFS song in your life, listen to this one. - 10/10

"My Hometown" is most definitely not a Springsteen cover. The guys rail here about how much they hate their hometown, and how they're so glad to be out (in very profane terms). - 7/10

"Smoothie King" is somewhat too long for the small idea it contains. 5/10

"Sad Sad Situation" is just okay. 6/10

"Really Might Be Gone" isn't a bad song, but not my thing. 5/10

"Down For The Count" has a boxing metaphor that's actually well-done throughout. (Most such metaphors in songs aren't.) The verses are broken up by the "announcer" (Jarret) (e.g., "And now on to Verse 2!!"), and the presentation is clever. And, interestingly, they hold back on profanity here, preferring "effing" to the big F word (used as an adjective) throughout the song. You might not think it'd work, but it matches the tone of the song. The song ends with the protagonist checking his cell phone messages and hearing the love interest's final message, then deleting it. It's an interesting effect here, and it works. 8/10

"Two Seater" is a deceptively cheery song about a guy trashing his ex-girlfriend's car. ("I hope you like your two-seater, no radio, keymarks parallel to the pin stripes...".) Definitely a funny song. 8/10

"Friends O' Mine" is basically the band's ode to each other. It's been done before. It's nice, but not impressive. 6/10

"Ohio (Hidden Track)" continues the list of people that "want you back" in the original song. It's basically the guys goofing around. It's pretty funny, even if it does get juvenile at times. 7/10

"Belgium (Hidden Track)" is a boy-band mix of their original song, "Belgium". It's funny as a self-parody, but I don't know if a lot of people will realize that's what it is. 7/10

So there you have it. Now go buy it! :)

5 out of 5 stars Their most successful, 3 hits, but all are great. Must have in any collection. Happy rock with a punk edge........2006-12-09

Bowling for soup burst on the scene a few years ago with their funny videos and rocking edge, but also a suprise grammy nomination for Drunk enough to dance riding high on the hit song/video Girl all the bad guys want. This album is the follow up to drunk enough to dance, and spawed 3 successful radio songs with 1985, almost, and Ohio. This album is now also available as a dual disc, with videos for 1985 and Almost on it. Either way, this album will keep you hopping all day with a smile. check it out.

2 out of 5 stars Skip this and go for the real thing.......2006-09-09

At first listen BFS sounds like a great power pop band with catchy lyrics of self deprecating humor. After a couple of listens though you'll realize they're really just a cheap rip-off of Fountains Of Wayne, who instead write really smart/funny lyrics, great power pop hooks and awesome arrangements.
As a general note, I think really there's so little good original music available these days that many mediocre bands are getting rave reviews. I see it all the time as I scroll through Amazon's reviews..4 stars here, 5 stars there and the music is either total [...] or uncreative garbage that gets old after three listens. I've decided to hold out for the "WOW" factor and if it's not there, then pass without settling for mediocrity. There's a few bands in this vein that are the real thing: Spoon, The Zutons, I Am Kloot, Harvey Danger, Dogs Die In Hot Cars just to name a few. Don't settle folks, keep your standards high otherwise what will happen is the market will continue to be saturated with bands that have made it on nothing but marketing power and/or imitations of the real thing. Use your power as consumers to spend your hard earned cash on those that deserve it.

4 out of 5 stars Fresh and Original........2004-12-14

On, A HANGOVER YOU DON'T DESERVE, Bowling For Soup has a style reminscent of 80s pop bands they seem to be parodying. The cd has a lot of twisted, bizarre, and quirky songs. I purchased this album solely because of the song "1985". It's such a catchy little ditty. But, many of the song on the album also are. In fact, besides "1985" its hard to decide which songs deserve special mention. I guess I particularly liked:

"Almost"

"Trucker Hat"

"Ohio (Come Back to Texas)"

"Ridiculous"

"Last Call Casualty"

"Smoothie King"

Bowling For Soup's songs aren't going to be enjoyed by everyone. However, on this ablum they provided me a little bit of 80s nostaligia which has introduced me to their clever and original style that is so fresh in today's popular music scene.

This is a must have rock album. Bowling for soups infectious rock/punk edge can keep anybody bouncing all day. Included on this Dual disc are the videos to their two biggest songs 1985 and Almost, which is worth buying the disc, funny as heck. Ohio was also released to the radio late in the course of the album run. The rest of the album is great a well, many could have been singles. Just a great band of guys having fun from the big state of texas. Rock on Honorable ones.

5 out of 5 stars LONG LIVE SISSY PUNK ROCK!!!!!!!!!.......2006-03-27
