The third album Cat Stevens put out in a 15-month burst that began in the summer of 1970 with Mona Bone Jakon, Teaser and the Firecat is where the enigmatic folk-pop idol crested commercially, if not artistically. Its immediate predecessor, Tea for the Tillerman, possesses an air of mystery and unforced whimsy that proved impossible for Stevens to replicate. That said, the singer-songwriter had it in him to pull together a captivating collection that boasted two of the biggest hits of his meteoric, if self-inhibited, career--"Peace Train" and the sublime hymn "Morning Has Broken." "The Wind," "If I Laugh," and "Moonshadow" are every bit as tuneful and appealing as the hits, while "Rubylove," "How Can I Tell You," and "Bitterblue" would be standouts on Stevens's less accomplished later albums. In fact, only the bellicose social statements "Changes IV" and "Tuesday's Dead" ring hollow. --Steven Stolder

His Best Album.......2006-11-16
Here is a song by song breakdown:
1) The Wind - 9/10
It is short, simple and beautiful. It is inspiring and uplifting to hear
2) RubyLove - 8/10
This is a very catchy love song.
3) If I Laugh - 8.5/10
A very sad song, but we can all identify with tthe pain of losing someone you love. Beautiful guitar work on this
4) Changes IV - 8.5/10
This song is very upbeat and has a very positive message of hope. It is very strong lyrically and musically.
5)How Can I Tell You - 8/10
It is a bit repetitive and I feel a bit long, but still a pleasant love song
6) Tuesday's Dead - 8/10
This song is strong, upbeat and a bit off the wall, but it is still quite good.
7) Morning Has Broken - 9/10
Cat Stevens reworks an old hymn and turns it into a beautiful version. He didn't write the words, but the music he did is breathtaking.
8) Bitterblue - 6.5/10
I really don't care for this song. It comes off sounding harsh & not very enjoyable to listen to.
9) Moonshadow - 10/10
This is a classic song. It is perfection
10) Peace Train - 10/10
After Father & Son, I rate this as Cat's 2nd best song. It is up there with Lennon's Imagine. The production is top notch and so is the arrangement of it. Perfect
Get this album. I rarely like 90% of an album. This is a masterpiece.

Album Description
After performing in a variety of bands since the late '60s, Bolin finally released his first solo album in 1975. Teaser is an impressive display of the guitarist's prowess & range, & is a natural progression from the previous Bolin-dominated James Gang albums Bang & Miami & his work with drummer Billy Cobham. The album features heavy doses of jazz-rock fusion (furthered by guests Jan Hammer, Dave Sanborn, & Michael Walden) in the instrumentals 'Homeward Strut' & 'Marching Powder', & straight-ahead rock in tracks like 'The Grind'. Bolin was always equally adept at subtleties, & the ballad 'Dreamer' & the exotic 'Savannah Woman' (with percussion from Phil Collins) represent this stylistic range here. Overshadowed historically by his guitar dynamics, Bolin's understated yet strong vocals are another selling point. Teaser is a stronger album than its one successor, the uneven Private Eyes, & survives as Bolin's signature work Sony/Japan. 1997.Album Details
1975 Solo Album from the Late Session Guitarist and Former James Gang and Deep Purple Member. Bolin's Guitar Playing was Truly Remarkable, but his Life was Cut Short by his Inability to Kick Drugs. This Debut Solo Album Leaned More to his Jazz Rock Side (It was Released on Nemperor Records) but Still Has Rock Licks A-plenty. A Guitarist's Essential Disc to Learn From.Customer Reviews:
Great collection for my life.......2007-01-21
I live in Korea and the reason I bought this one via Amazon was that there were no this CD available in every record shop in Korea in regardless of online and offline. As well as, I tried to find it in Amazon Japan but there wasn't.
I really thank you for Amaozon to let me have this CD safely.

Signature Work.......2006-12-20
This album features heavy doses of Jazz-Rock fusion mixed with Bolin's singing which proved to be a great selling point at that time. (I am amazed that this album sold well at that time. I think this release was way ahead of that period)
Listening to this album today is a pure delight; Beautiful songs, very nicely arranged, putting this album high on my today's favorites in my personal CD collection.
Highly recommended, especially for the music collectors and lovers of that genre.

Class.Pure Class........2005-09-01
Teaser was released on Nemperor which was a subsidiary of Columbia and usually housed jazz and experimental pieces.
The fact Tommy's album appeared through this label gives an indication of the scope and chameleon like playing of this American Guitar icon.
Tommy had by the time of this solo effort had played and explored more styles and been involved in more astonishing grounbreaking albums such as Billy Cobham's Spectrum,Alphonse Mouzon's Mind Transplant,Deep Purple's wrongly maligned Come Taste The Band along with Energy,Zephyr, and many other great pieces that showcased his guitar playing brilliance and lyrical intelligence along with a voice that really spoke to the listener, that many Artists could hope to ever achieve.
Teaser could no doubt have been better, but Tommy was onboard the Purple juggernaut at the time of it's release and dedicated as much time as he could to the album.
The highlights are many and the fact that Tommy was 24-25 at the time of this release is astonishing in retrospect.
Of course it is obvious i am a Bolin fan but i would strongly advise anyone to grab this album and start a discovery of if not the finest truly an American and world wide guitar genius who unfortunately passed on too soon but left behind a brilliant and truly impressive catalogue both in scope and quality to delve into.
Ian.

Every song matters, every song is excellent..his best ever!!.......2005-07-24
"Teaser and the Firecat" finds Cat Stevens at the high of his artistic powers and inspiration. Alun Davies was Cat Stevens guitar player and also his musical partner (but he never got credited). He died many years ago, and he recorded a couple of solo albums that are still waiting for release. Very sad.

This is a fantastic album.
Enjoy it, with every space of your soul.
Written From The Soul.......2000-03-08
This record was recorded back in the seventies when music was honest and natural. Sort of like Chocolate Chip Cookies. The Wind while short in length, delivers a good message about lsitening to your true voice. If I Laugh deals with human emotions and dreams. Morning Has Broken paints such a beautiful picture of life complimented by gorgeous piano runs. I could go on and on but this is a nice recording that will make you think about life in simple ways that are not often thought about in this hectic world that we live in.

Getting better all the time.......2006-11-08
Basically, this is a seventies rock album. It didn't stand out for me from the scores of other rock albums of the same period but I will say that I have come to like it quite a lot. It is mostly commercial sounding though interesting in its variety of styles, including jazz, blues, reggae and hard rock. His singing is surprisingly good and he's impressive on Dreamer and Wild Dogs, though I heard Glenn Hughes guests on Dreamer so the best vocals are actually Hughes. What impressed me the most is Tommy's style of guitar playing. It is unique. I can understand how it is people praise him as a brilliant guitarist. He attempts many sounds and effects without sounding like Jeff Beck and can play some tricky licks as well.
Bolin Brilliance.......2006-10-20
Here is a guitarist who is by most people largely unknown even today.
American listeners especially should embrace this special talent and enjoy the great playing by a man who on the evidence of this album alone deserves to be listened to.
Please do yourself a great favour and embrace Tommy and Teaser,it could even open doors to more of his groundbreaking work for you.
Why do think it is now selling for $35.00$.......2005-08-22
Take it for what it's worth... great lyrics and even better guitar!
A fuzzy snapshot of a great talent.......2005-02-15
Deeply flawed.... but still enchanting!.......2004-05-12
Although having good/great songwriting and singing, this album is sometimes let down by sloppy playing, pitiful mixing and poor quality control during the final stages of its production...
Dare I suggest that history is rewritten and it is given to someone trustworthy like Ken Scott to oversee a remix which would give it a well needed final polish to reveal all of its true beauty (instead of the chaotic and erratic fader riding during mixdown which buries so much of the detail and introduces some harsh distortion which leaps out at you...). It sounds to my ears like the volume in the studio control room was so loud that they were trying to bounce sound off of planets, got excited and lost contact with any possibility of objective listening analysis on Earth...!!!
I know I sound like a technical spoilsport anorak (or perhaps a mad professor) but I personally always prefer to go for the 'take' and 'feel' rather than 'iron any soul' out of the performance by aiming for total accuracy and perfection. I feel this album goes beyond that in places.
That said, there is nothing to replace it with... It is a very warm and likeable collection of songs and perhaps because the VU meters were frequently off the scale etc it may be even more endearing (especially considering the sad circumstances surrounding Tommy Bolin).
I expect you can guess that I have a love/hate relationship with this album!
