Bathroom escapades aside, there's no denying that George Michael has been responsible for some of the biggest party jams of the '80s and '90s. Have you ever noticed what happens to a room when "Faith" erupts from the speakers? Aside from the funk-fueled "Fastlove," the material from his most recent album, Older, is well and truly overshadowed here by the megahits from days gone by. The first disc starts off slow, with "Careless Whisper" and his remake of "I Can't Make You Love Me" the only real high points among otherwise bland ballads. It's disc 2 that exudes the essence of Michael, with "Fastlove," "Too Funky," and "Freedom 90" providing a nonstop dance-athon, and "I Want Your Sex" and "Faith" picking up the slack. The package also includes his rather unexciting (but hugely popular) duets with Queen and Elton John, his perfect pop pairing with Aretha Franklin, and two new tracks. Set aside some serious time for this one, folks. The hits don't stop. --Rebecca Wallwork

Split into two CDs, "For The Heart" and "For The Feet," Ladies And Gentlemen highlights the division between raunchy playboy and bland soulboy, both compelled to end every line with "baby" but very different sides of the same beard.

Joni Mitchell's third album offers a bridge between the artful but sometimes dour meditations of her earlier work and the more mature, confessional revelations of the classics that would follow. Voice and guitar still hew to the pretty filigree of a folk poet, but there's the giggling rush of rock & roll freedom in "Big Yellow Taxi," and the formal metaphor of her older songs ("The Circle Game," already oft-covered by the time of this recording) yields to the more impressionistic images of the new ones ("Woodstock"). The dark lyricism of her earliest ballads is intact (on "For Free" and "Rainy Night House"), yet there's a prevailing idealism here that sounds poignant alongside the warier, more mature songs to come on Blue and Court And Spark. --Sam Sutherland

5 out of 5 stars A CLASSIC.......2007-06-09

I bought this when I was in High School on vinyl. I ordered the CD just recently and really love it all over again. It has stood the test of time. Truly a classic ofrom my generation.

5 out of 5 stars Required Joni.......2007-06-06

This is required listening for any Joni Mitchell fan. A classic in every sense of the word.

4 out of 5 stars Canyon life and the heart who lived there. .......2006-12-15

As my first introduction to Ms. Mitchell's work, I had no idea what to expect. I was riding the wave of celebration for the 20th anniversary of Woodstock, and happened to catch an interview with Graham Nash, where he mentioned her penning the ode for the event, that piqued my interest. Fourteen years old and eager to explore, I went in search of the eartheral creature described.

The tape, long ago replaced by a CD, exceeded all expectations. The " Woodstock" anthem was so well written, especially for a " Kid who couldn't make it", as Mitchell was quoted as saying a few years later. However, in typical fashion, she captured the spirit behind the event. In retrospect, this ability to create vivid pictures with her words created the hallmark for the brilliance of her emerging greatness as a song writer.

Ms. Mitchell's voice is above reproach; she easily had the most angelic, sincere delivery of all the genre combined. The songs contained here reflect the free spirited ethos of the late 60's, with some personal observations painting a lush portrait of Canyon life. The skill of distilling gender role questions, pastoral living, spiritual seeking, and the thrill of opening oneself, as well as another, to the possibility of love is amazing. Considering she was only twenty seven, at the oldest, when these songs were written, the talent assumes a new level.

This is a great intro to Joni's work; then, if you choose to work back to the first two, you will see the improvements on already exquisit work. If you proceed to the next succession of material, you can trace the gift truly taking form. For days that mellowing out seems the only option, this is a perfect soundtrack.

5 out of 5 stars Best Joni Mitchell Album.......2006-11-06

I bought this album on LP when it first came out and have always liked it. This was Joni's third album and I enjoy it more than any others. Never heard her first two albums until just recently and they didn't strike me as anything that special. The next two albums (4th & 5th), Blue and For the Roses were fine albums, but had no particularly memorable songs, as this album has. In the 6th album (Court & Spark), the sound is different; some people like it the best, but it didn't do much for me. Ladies of the Canyon is still the best sounding Joni Mitchell, in my opinion. Big Yellow Taxi is my favorite, but all the songs are nice sounding. Joni has an interesting delivery and sometimes it seems that she is trying to sing a rambling poem that in some cases should not have been made into a song. A little Joni goes a long way and her delivery tends to make some of her songs sound a lot a alike. In spite of all that and in spite of the fact that she isn't my favorite singer, she is still very interesting and this album is a strong 5-star album. A great starter album for someone who has never heard Mitchell.

5 out of 5 stars Almost for free.......2006-02-16

I have loved this album, and Joni, for more than thirty years now. In this and many times in the two preceding and next three albums, she is giving us, and is capable of giving us, wreckage and craziness and joy straight from her marrow. The poetry of "Blue Boy" or "The Priest", amongst others, is similar in a way to Elizabeth Bishop or Robert Lowell, and just as unfettered by commercialism. It's funny, just how un-commercial this music sounds, now, and how uncaring Joni the artist auteur is. She is focused on other, higher things, here, and it always gives me goosebumps hearing how unabashedly un-self-conscious she is, a trait she shares in common with fellow Canucks Neil Young and Gordon Lightfoot. Essential music this is, if you would know the folk and very LIBERAL bedrock from which all contemporary music, including hiphop, is builded.

4 out of 5 stars Love this!.......2006-07-12

I love George Michael's music and did not have all of his albums, only Faith, but I loved some of the later stuff and earlier stuff too, so I just had to have this CD. If you love the hits and don't have those albums or singles, get this.

5 out of 5 stars The best from the best.......2006-07-07

Absolutely the most interesting artist of 1980/90s. The two CDs represent almost two decades of George Michael's work. Mostly the songs are ballads however there are some really unusual ones - no way to be bored listening the CDs.

Barenaked Ladies Are Men is a companion disc to the predecessor, Barenaked Ladies Are Me. Although recorded during the same studio sessions, the discs were released five months apart. Are Me is the quieter of the two, while Are Men could be described as the feistier, noisier twin brother. Given their adult contemporary history, the Ladies's version of 'feisty' is hardly a venture into death metal, however Are Men contains an evolutionary quality that may well bring new fans into the fold. Nearly two decades into their career, the lads' growth can in part be measured by a handful of increasingly layered soundscapes ("Serendipity," "Another Spin") that bear a slight resemblance to the harmonies that the Beach Boys were penning around the time of their Pet Sounds release. The disc's biggest surprise is the politically cutting "Fun & Games," written from the perspective of a world leader assessing the war. "There's no need to draft them/you could hear us laugh then/the poor and black all need the room and board" sings Ed Robertson, as a New Orleans-style jazz band poignantly encircles the vocals. "One and Only" is a lush track that combines the harmonies a la Crosby, Stills, and Nash with a Foo Fighters-style chorus. Longtime fans can rest easy, however knowing that other tracks ("Running out of Ink," "Half a Heart") are done in that straight-up, traditional Barenaked style that fuses catchy pop melodies with clever lyrics. --Denise Sheppard

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Me and Men.......2007-07-12

BNL are Men is not as good as BNL are Me. This is what happens when you leave a pun out of your title. The best songs on these two albums are on "Me." But, these tunes are still worth having in your collection.

2 out of 5 stars a disappointing album.......2007-07-03

I am a huge fan of BNL and I have every cd they have ever put out. For the very first time I have been disappointed with one of their cd's. It is a very slow and boring cd, just not true to them. The Barenaked Ladies are Me is very good, this one is not.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely the BEST BNL yet!.......2007-06-11

I have a unique perspective on BNL- I began listening to them right before they released "Everything To Everyone". That means I wasn't there for the hype of "One Week" (I just always wrote that song off as "goofy") or "Pinch Me." When I bought their Greatest Hits, I found myself loving "Brian Wilson", "It's All Been Done", "Alternative Girlfriend", and others of that now classic Steven Page 90's style.

I began buying all their albums and have now listened to each more times than I care to mention. I love them ALL. I know all their songs, heard their high times and low points ("Who Needs Sleep" being one of those low points for me), and now consider them my absolute favorite band behind the Beach Boys.

That said, here's where it ties in to this new album. Somehow, without "copying" the style, BNL has managed to do something only a handful of bands have been able to do in the past:

They've successfully incorporated four songwriting members of the group! Of the truly legendary groups, only the Beach Boys, Beatles (to a slightly lesser extent), the Moody Blues, the Byrds, and Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young have done it. That's pretty amazing company to keep.

And that, my friends, is why this album (and "Are Me") brings BNL to legendary status. Their harmonies are amazing (and to put them in the same SENTENCE with "Pet Sounds" has GOT to be saying something), the songwriting is incredible (both in tunes and lyrics), and the production is spot-on.

I honestly have listened to this album more than any other from the past ten years. When I got to meet the band a few months ago, I said to Ed Robertson, "I've listened to the new album about 500 times."

He replied, "That's too much."

But, with great Kevin Hearn songs like "Serendipity" and "Another Spin", a unique higher-voiced Ed chorus on "Maybe Not", and just a pure classic Steven Page tune with "Something You'll Never Find", this album truly deserves 500 listens.

Please, people- stop criticizing this band. They're finally making music the way they want to and it's better than I ever thought possible! Keep up the great work, guys!

1 out of 5 stars Barenaked Ladies are Meek.......2007-05-07

I don't know who these reviewers are, but they must be Barry Manilow fans or something. Having been a hardcore BNL fan from Gordon to Maroon, this makes the 3rd album where I wouldn't be caught dead playing at a party, let alone playing cover tunes at an open mike somewhere.

A plea to the band... no offense against Kevin Hearn, but please bring back the wittiness of Ed and Steve. You guys have lost your cool since Maroon. A 3 album slump is too much!

Signed,

A fan who is tired of hearing that BNL is now "maturing in their music" (what, just now?) and that BLAM "hearkens back to the Pet Sounds era" (who hearkens these days anyways?).

4 out of 5 stars Good but different.......2007-05-06

A wee bit softer, slower, and less funk than you expect from BNL. I have always thought Page to be better front man and singer for the band and this new album proves it. Robertson's vocals really stink on this album.

Electrifying performers and pure-pop songwriters of the highest order, Toronto's Barenaked Ladies have emerged over a decade as that strangest of beasts. They'll never land a dishy cover story in Mojo Magazine, but as they reflect on those ribald years between 1991 and 2001, the five can allow themselves wry smiles, knowing that sometimes, just sometimes, the cream rises to the top. In addition to familiar radio staples such as "Pinch Me," "The Old Apartment," "Jane," "Alternative Girlfriend," and the ubiquitous "One Week," there's a trump card on All Their Greatest Hits that will prove irresistible to completists: the Ladies' buttery, acoustic version of Bruce Cockburn's "Lovers in a Dangerous Time." Recorded eons ago for a Cockburn tribute disc that almost immediately went out of print, the song has until now been a rare and highly coveted collector's item. Two news songs--"Thanks That Was Fun" and "It's Only Me (The Wizard of Magicland)"--were recorded specifically for this collection, while two others ("Brian Wilson" and "What a Good Boy") are captured live. But what really brings this album home is, ironically, "If I Had $1,000,000." One of their very first hits cut as the Ladies were learning to dovetail their so-called "acoustic hip-hop" into slicker pop sensibilities, "$1,000,000"--a simple knock-kneed love song with harmonies so tight they're practically braided--is a snapshot of a band with all the pieces in place just as the planets were about to align. --Kim Hughes

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Awesome.......2007-07-12

We love all the Barenaked Ladies songs! This is a repurchase of the disc after we lost the first one and couldn't live without it.

5 out of 5 stars Musical SUNSHINE Baby!!.......2007-03-14

Okay, so, if we were in a western, I wouldn't exactly be quick on the draw, but personally, I like getting to things in my own sweet time.
Six years (?) after the fact, the SpiritWorld is graced with this FANTASTIC cd-of 19 tracks, thank you very much-GET IT NOW!!
I was only familiar with the high inducing 'Falling For The First Time' track that's on the Malcolm in the Middle soundtrack, and only vaguely familiar with a few of the others, so I come to this as a newbie and I LOVE IT!!
Their quirky loquacious lyrics are funny, smart, smiley, honest and paranoid, the music is played with heart, it's beautiful and even the slower tracks you can snap to. A couple of the tracks are live versions which makes a nice change to the polished studio feel and it's sweet because you can hear the fans singing along in the background.
I can honestly say there's not a Homer's favorite brand of beer track on here; they're all FABOO, and some that are the faboo-est include the aforementioned Falling..., If I Had $1000000 and the spectacular Pinch Me.
I'd like to buy a doll house, use a shrinkomatic on these guys and have them play for me every time I opened the door. Or we could all just live together. I am so getting their entire back catalog and all their new and future ones, which, considering I'm more of a soundtracks girl, is saying a lot.
Lyrics aren't included in the booklet, but you do get a funny little story behind each song, and besides, they sing clearly enough, and you won't be able to stop playing it either, so you'll pick up on the words.
Bottom line: I HIGHLY recommend this, especially if you have a red cadillac and are going for a road-trip across America. Even just in your head. It's like pure musical sunshine.

5 out of 5 stars A great album filled with hits at every turn!.......2007-02-23

I purchased this album after hearing only "One Week" and "If I had 1000000 dollars" from the radio. The two give you a taste of the wacky and zany streak that touches several of their songs, including the irreverant "Be My Yoko Ono." But they show a softer and more reflective side with tracks like "Call and Answer" as well. The variety of tracks is impresive.

As a rule, "best of" compilations tend to be littered with bad songs, but BNL really nailed it with this fantastic collection of songs. If you've heard and enjoyed any of their music, you owe it to yourself to check this one out!

3 out of 5 stars Norms One.......2007-01-20

There is some good with bad along with this review. I felt previous reviews had recommended highly, but it did not live up to expectations. Having written that - there were some good tracks.

5 out of 5 stars It's Barenaked Ladies, how could you go wrong!.......2007-01-03

I am a fan of the BNL, and this CD did not disappoint.

The screenwriting/directing debut of veteran British stage and screen actor Charles Dance tells of a pair of Cornish spinsters (Judi Dench and Maggie Smith) who discover a charismatic young Polish violin virtuoso castaway (Daniel Bruhl) on the beach below their home. The tale leads inexorably to tender romantic conflicts and a warm concert house finale. Composer Nigel Hess masterfully utilizes his background as Music Director and House Composer for the Royal Shakespeare Company to conjure a score that evokes its quiet, emotional dignity via neo-classical orchestral arrangements that feature real life young virtuoso Joshua Bell on solo violin. Hess' intimate original compositions form a virtually seamless tapestry with the story's requisite classical repertory choices, which range from Massenet and Debussy to Bell's delightful variations on Paganini's "The Carnival of Venice." --Jerry McCulley

The violin music is wonderful! I knew I wanted a copy of this soundrack when I saw the movie on DVD. Joshua Bell in a wonderful artist.

5 out of 5 stars Ladies In Lavender CD.......2007-03-19

The film "Ladies In Lavender" is touching and a tear jerker, but, so well done. Having the film on DVD was not enough, I needed to have the CD to play when I am driving. The violin virtuosity of Joshua Bell is magnificient and so pleasing to hear when relaxation is desired.

5 out of 5 stars LADIES in LAVENDER.......2007-02-19

This is the most amazing and beautiful CD I've heard in a long time. Joshua Bell excells on his violin with this touching and haunting music. I listen to it often.

15+ years after their winsome indie debut, Canada's Barenaked Ladies come full circle here, dropping off the major label merry-go-round to re-embrace a DYI sensibility with typically breezy aplomb. But, as this collection's strong songs and crisp production attest, that hardly means the band didn't learn a thing or three during its successful tenure in the majors. The gorgeous melancholy of "Adrift" is apt preamble to a collection that's more thematically balanced and graced by an expansive sense of artistic democracy. While mainstays Steven Page and Ed Robertson contribute such patently torqued, BNL-mirthful fare as "Bank Job," "Bull in a China Shop," "Rule the World With Love" and "Wind It Up," there's a growing maturity and sense of reflection in their work as well, as evidenced by Page confessing his own emotional disconnection via the evocative, banjo-accordion lament "Everything Had Changed." But it's the strong, equally literate contributions of fellow band members Jim Creeggan ("Peterborough & the Kawathas") and Kevin Hearn ("Sound of Your Voice," "Vanishing") that truly expand BNL's horizons at a career juncture when many bands are all too happy to rest on their laurels or hew religiously to the formula that garnered them. --Jerry McCulley

Album Description

Barenaked Ladies Are Me still exudes the band's sense of fun while musically and lyrically demonstrating a maturity you'd expect from guys who have played together forever.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars absolutely amazing.......2007-04-10

I certainly consider myself a BNL fan. However, I only own their cd's (no dvds etc) so apparently I don't actually qualify as a real fan.
I must say though that BNL ranks up there in my top three favorite bands. I've been listening to them since 1993 or so.

This being said, this cd is MY FAVORITE. I cannot stop listening to it.
It was like this with Everything for Everyone, but I wasn't AS addicted as I am to this one. This cd is very rich and it is clear (as if it weren't before) that these guys are EXTREMELY talented. Take it Back is the best song on the cd, but not by that much. The other songs are also incredible. I had to listen to it three times before I became completely addicted.
I own BLAMe, but have only listened to it once since I can't stop listening to this one.

4 out of 5 stars Creative and daring for this pop outift.......2007-04-04

The Barenaked Ladies (BNL) career could be divided into two parts that flows into two countries. When they first started their career in their native Canada one of the first songs people heard from these merry popsters was their cover of Bruce Cockburn's Lovers In A Dangerous Time at the beginning of the 90's, a very grown-up, somber ballad that the Be My Yoko Ono boys pulled off beautifully (this February I attended a BNL concert where the song received one of the best responses). Meanwhile stateside the boys were a few years away from attaining success. But when they did finally conquer the U.S. their number one single One Week was the first song many south of the border heard from this pop outfit, quite the opposite of Lovers, One Week is an up tempo piece of pop silliness anchored by Ed Robertson's freestyle rap.

When listening to Barenaked Ladies Are Me (BLAM), the thought of how fans view this band will very much define its reception. Something tells me BLAM will be more appreciated by their Canadian fan base then their U.S. counterparts. The reason is the silliness that flowed through One Week and even their live shows that vaulted them to success south of the border is nowhere to be found.

BLAM instead is a showcase of five experienced musicians trying to write great not necessarily pop songs, but great songs. Rejecting the Another Postcard approach that saw the band appearing to pander for album sales with a return to Ed Robertson's rapping, BLAM sees the creative energy of the band put front and center as a freewheeling ethic flows through the album. The multiple lead vocalists on the record reveal this as Kevin Hearn and Jim Creggan both increase their roles contributing lead takes on Peterborough And The Kawarthas and Vanishing respectively, leading to a depth of sound as each do not bring the distinctive, and maybe overplayed, BNL style to their performances.

BNL's blast of artistic freedom, likely the result of leaving a major label, lead Ed Robertson and Stephen Page to some of their most daring work in years, or as daring as these pop mainstays will ever be. The best example of this is Bank Job, Ed Robertson's precisely put together explanation of a robbery gone wrong and the frustration an experienced criminal must be feeling after leaving the scene. Bank Job is revealing of the tone for the entire record as the cheery pop hooks of previous songs like One Week and Shoebox are basically cast aside on this collection, very much explained in the chorus of Everything Had Changed, a mandolin played look at life in a new situation, which also serves as Stephen Page's most interesting walk through BNL's new sense of freedom. The wink of awareness that defined the band and allowed you to jump into their goofy sound is replaced by a weathered look at life as there is bitterness on BLAM, much like Maroon. Therefore, much like the lyrics to Lovers In A Dangerous Time, BLAM contains more of a somber, mellow energy that allows the band to craft some of their most interesting work in years.

2 out of 5 stars Not happy at all.......2007-02-20

I am a big fan. I have seen the live shows. So the question remains - what went wrong here? There are a few great tracks - Bull in a China Shop, Easy, Take It Back and Bank Job. The problem is the rest of the tracks lack anything distinctive. There is nothing that makes you want to listen to the rest of the tracks. It is rather boring. The lead track is just slow and never develops. That is the problem with this cd. Where is the wit? And why is Kevin singing so much on this? I did not buy "thin buckle" or whatever his band is. The sad thing is the "sister" cd is not much better, in fact is worse.
I hope they find their way again.

5 out of 5 stars The Ladies At Their Best!!!!.......2007-01-30

I am a fan of anything the Barenaked Ladies have done over the years. From Gordon to Stunt, they show off great a talent for any mood. Starting out with acoustic bluegrassy stuff to powerful goofy rock/pop, they are talented musicians, and are a great live act. After seeing them live (before hearing "Are Me") I have realized that not all their talent is displayed on record. Such albums like "Maybe You Should Drive" does not showcase Steven Page at his vocal best, or Ed's best guitar playing. This is an album, melodic at times, and just the right amoutn of umf and drive where needed, the balance is perfect. I honestly think it is their best album to date, and one of my favorite albums of all time. The songs are mature and writen by someone who obviously does not make music just for the sake of money. Here are the tracks as I would critic them

1. adrift- 3/5 this is the most melodic song on the album, but I feel it was just right for an opening song, the harmony between Kevin and Ed is wonderful
2. bank job 5/5 the music in this song is ok, its the lyrics that does it. Typical BNL it has humor to a serious situation, its fun once you know all the words and sing along in the car
3. sound of your voice 3.5/5 this one is Steve Page's debut on the record, straight forward and catchy, good to put on your girlfirend/boyfriends next mix you make them
4. Easy 3/5 takes a while to catch on, although it is a very simple and relaxing, not one of my favorites
5. home- 4/5 again its slow and simple, nothing complex, but reminds me of something I would of heard on Stunt. Steven's voice sounds throughout this record is the best its been
6. bull in a china shop- 5/5 a catchy poppy song, lyrics are that typical of BNL recent goofyness
7. peterbourough and the kawarthas- 5/5 very happy to see Jim had a song on the record.
8. maybe youre right- 5/5 this and the next track are my two favorites, from start to finish they have energy and talent
9. take it back 5/5 my favorite track, I think its Ed's best display of what BNL can do when they try to be honest and professionals instead of goofballs
10. vanishing 3/5 slow and the lyrics are corny at points, but expected from Kevin Hearn, although I am very glad he recieved credit and had a song as well on the album. Like Kevin, this song has an interesting topic...a magician
11. rule the world with love- 5/5 takes a few listens to really get the feeling, but its a great song
12. wind it up 5/5 works well opening or closing out the album. cathcy cool guitar riff, great harmonies and all and all a masterpiece

2 out of 5 stars Not So Hot.......2007-01-12

I used to be a big BNL fan in the Stunt and Maroon days, but lately I think I've grown out of it. Their newest album seems somewhat uninspired, and the lyrics hint at triteness and depression. The tunes and chord progressions seem forced. The sweetness of "Home" is one of the album's bright spots, and the instrumentation on "Everything Had Changed" is entertaining, but in general, this one is a skip. Sorry, guys...

I heard this album for the first time at a restuarant in Florence during my trip to Italy. I was surprised it was from the US beacause it has captured the very soul of Italy. After 7 years it has remained my favorite of all Puccini cds I own. I especially like the fact that it is instumental and can be played for many occassions. It never fails to stir the wanderlust for a trip back to Italy! A must for every romantic!

The band's goofy charm and sure-footed melodic sense is in full flower here, and the singalongs on "Brian Wilson" and "If I Had $1000000" are proof of the bond between band and audience. A hidden rap tribute to Ed Robertson's "Uncle Elwyn" is vintage Bill Cosby. --Jeff Bateman

5 out of 5 stars Being Naked Live Ain't Embarassing.......2006-06-09

Here is a live record containing a band that sounds as good live as they do in the studio. In the Spring of 1996, The Barenaked Ladies performed amazing rock sets at both the Rivera in Chicago and The Oympia in Montreal. With a group trained on the double bass, bass guitar, keyboards, accordian, acoustic guitars, electric guitars, drums, and vocals; it is pretty obvious that the Barenaked Ladies' music is very musical and unique. Their songs are a light rock, very poppish, but ear catching. Some of them are even given a Swing feel and beat. This album is a must have for any fan and for anyone who enjoys listening to music. Enhanced CD features include footage of skits and and live performances.

    Stand out tracks include:
    "Brian Wilson"
"Straw Hat And Old Dirty Hank"
    "Jane"
    "When I Fall"
    "Hello City"
    "The Old Apartment"
    "Life In A Nutshell"
    "If I Had A $1,000,000"

    5 out of 5 stars Energized.......2006-04-11

So many live albums can be "flat". You can't go back and redo anything and if the crowd has an off night or isn't into your show, you can't go back to the studio and re-record cheers or fill in the "other" instrument (the audience).

Oh, how different this album is. BNL have so much energy and so much interaction with the crowd, I'll bet no editing was needed. You can hear the crowd singing along with them and they interact with the crowd and play along with them so well. The energy of this album makes you feel like you are at the show (and I've seen them live and this is a great record).

Filled with so much energy you may never go back and listen to the studio versions of these songs again. A great record with great mixing, great energy and great lasting power.

5 out of 5 stars Why aren't they on the NOW CDs?.......2006-02-04

This is an incredible live album. I honestly don't think that I've ever heard anyone do a better job on a live album. Standout songs are Brian Wilson, When I Fall, Straw Hat And Old Dirty Hank, and If I Had A Million Dollars. How come these guys are never on the NOW CDs? They're more talented than Nelly or Snoop Dogg or Coldplay!

    5 out of 5 stars Genuinely Entertaining.......2006-01-13

I bought this CD years ago and I always seem to come back to it. I agree with one of the previous reviews about "Rock Spectacle" sounding as fresh as it did when I bought it 9 years ago!! It's one of my absolute favourites. I like every song on this CD, although I do like some more than others. This is one of those CDs that when you are driving down the road, you pop it in your cd player and sing along at the top of your lungs!

"Break Your Heart" is such a heart-wrenching song. The emotion that S. Page is able to convey in his voice really makes this song. It makes you want to cry!!

BNL put together great albums, but they are even better live. They are by far the most genuinely entertaining live act I've seen. They always make me laugh!! They don't take life (or themselves) too seriously and it's refreshing to be able to experience that when listening to music these days. I can't help but be in a good mood every time I listen to these guys. They are too funny!! :)

I would absolutely recommend this CD to those who aren't very familiar with BNL. I've done this many times over the years. I have not had one person tell me that they didn't like this CD; and I haven't had one person that I've recommended it to, not become a BNL fan after they heard it!!
