Emo-rock band Jimmy Eat World exemplify all that is the modern radio rock sound. Singing and playing with a conviction and sincerity that will melt the heart of even the most stoic of listeners, they produce rousing, well-crafted anthems along the lines of Third Eye Blind at their roughest or a more polished Green Day. These guys appear to be able to write ready-made singles at the drop of a hat, as evidenced by "Your House" as well as the title track. In fact, there is a rather shocking maturity to their material that belies the band members' ages (all in their 20s). While they sometimes veer into cringe-worthy power-ballad territory, overall Jimmy Eat World give the people what they want with Bleed American. --Ike Bolton

5 out of 5 stars I need more Jimmy!.......2007-07-20

I need to see if they have made another record, because I have enjoyed playing this one so much. I don't dislike a single song on this record, honestly. One of my better investments, along with some records by the Killers, Franz Ferdinand, Spoon, and Damien Rice.

4 out of 5 stars Oh yeah, Jimmy Eat World.......2007-06-13

I loved this album but can anyone help me out? Can you tell me what order their other albums came out in?

5 out of 5 stars Jimmy Eat World Breaks Out With this Strong Effort.......2007-05-23

Although many of the newest fans of this band probably view this as the debut self titled record from Jimmy Eat World, the fact of the matter is that these guys have been around for a while. Along with numerous EP's, the band has also released two full length albums as well before this disc, "Static Prevails" and "Clarity." This cd is by far the best of the bunch. Formerly knows as "Bleed American" (Before the 9/11 attacks which forced the band to self title the disc), this album showcases the lyrical talent of lead singer James Adkins and the combination of that with a rockin good band. The songs play out like this:

1. Bleed American- 7/10
Unlike any other song on the album, this is a heavy rocker, and a good one at that.

2. A Praise Chorus- 8/10
Catchy uptempo tune, my favorite of all the singles the band released off this album.

3. The Middle- 8/10
Can't listen to it anymore (because it was grossly overplayed on the radio), but this is the song that made me buy this album, so it is still one of the best on the cd

4. Your House- 9/10
Great song, emotional and beautiful

5. Sweetness- 7/10
Redundant at times, but still catchy

6. Hear You Me- 10/10
Beautiful ballad from a band that has one of the best ballads of all time in my opinion (For Me This Is Heaven- off of the Clarity cd)

7. If You Don't, Don't- 10/10
Unbelievably catchy song, with a great hook and a solid bridge. Best on the album.

8. Get It Faster- 6/10
Takes too long to build up, I lose interest in this song

9. Cautioners- 9/10
Great song, another slow one from Jimmy

10. The Authority Song- 5/10
Worst song on the album, annoying to a fault

11. My Sundown- 9/10
Song that reaches deep into the mind of a troubled soul that is contemplating suicide. A true classic on the album, with beautiful background vocals.

Overall, this is a marvelous cd from a unique band. Although there are some bumps along the way, this album will serve as a smooth transition as these boys have changed from no name rockers into stadium fillin stars. The future is bright for this quartet.

5 out of 5 stars Rock Music at it's Finest.......2007-04-15

Bleed American is one most well rounded, polished, and intelligently written albums I have ever heard from any rock band. It remains to be my personal favorite.

Bleed American (Later re-released as Jimmy Eat World after Sept. 11, 2001) is a great example of lyrical and musical rock genius at its best. With an impressive variety of styles, songs range from very soft and mellow like "Hear You Me" to excellent hard rock tracks like "Bleed American". J.E.W. is able to capture youth and life perfectly through pure unadulterated great music and inspiring lyrics. Jimmy Eat World is, indeed in a class of their own. This album is a must buy for any decent rock fan.

5 out of 5 stars Complete Musically.......2007-04-01

I purchased this on the advice of two friends. How well I know these two is significant in that I only knew them for one month. After getting the disc and listening to it once through I was not wanting to listen to it again. While driving to work, I started to hear this melody in my brain, then another and then another. I was blown away, for very few, if any album sits and stews in my brain and allows me to recall verses, melodies and the such. This album is excellent. I know very little about JEW. But this is good music. Every song from the beginning to end is top-notch. Authority song is one of my favs, but so is don't don't. Heck, the entire disc is my fav. Just purchase it and enjoy.

Album Description

The road to success is not an easy one - but some handle its hurdles better than others. In 2001 Jimmy Eat World was a widely adored but criminally underappreciated band capable of drawing capacity crowds all over the world, but unable to find a record deal to their liking. Having just been unceremoniously spit out of the major label machinery, the band opted to record a new album entirely on its own dime and let labels come a-calling. The gambit more than paid off, with the resultant Bleed America (later re-titled Jimmy Eat World), yielding the hits "The Middle" and "Sweetness," and ultimately selling over 1.4 million copies in the U.S. By the time two full years of touring had wound down, they'd made triumphant breakthroughs everywhere from Saturday Night Live, being nominated for an MTV Video Music Award and topping, "Best Of" lists at Blender, Alternative Press, SPIN, USA Today, People and Rolling Stone to name a few. Not bad for a little band from Mesa! , Arizona. But then came the problem once all your rock dreams come true, what do you do for an encore? The band's new album, Futures, is the answer to that question. It's a sprawling, gorgeous, heavy-yet-quiet epic with songs ranging from ambitious hard rock to epic ballads. With the hard driving first single "Pain" kicking off the campaign to the beautifully constructed follow up single "Work," Futures is perhaps the best sounding record in Jimmy Eat World's career.

5 out of 5 stars Every Song You Can Listen To...........2007-05-10

Im not 13 just didnt want to make an account...im 21 and very much into music.

1. Futures- *Single* more of the pop side to J.E.W. It just has a great opener and lyrics are sweet. Very catchy song. This song will draw people to this cd. 10/10

2. Just Tonight . . .- Total change from "Futures" with a faster pace song. I love listening to this song when driving or working out. The middle guitar riff is sweet. Great Song 10/10

3. Work- *Single* hmm I liked the song when I first heard it but just kinda got bored with it. Its not a bad song but just no alot to it. 7/10

4. Kill- Kinda have the same feeling as I do with "Work" but not as bad. Good song and love the lyrics. 8/10

5. The World You Love- Think this was kinda a filler song. I still love it though. Catchy song...cant say anything bad about it. 8/10

6. Pain- *Single* Tied for the best song on the album. Fast paced and just rocking. I love it. Lyrics are written very well and chorus is awesome. You will love this song. Guitar riff is really good. 10/10

7. Drugs or Me- What a change from "Pain"....nice slow song that fits good in the middle-bottom of this cd. Kinda a sad song when you listen to it. 9/10

8. Polaris- This is a yummy song. Its a hidden gem. If you just lay back and want to listen to some music play this song. Makes this cd very strong. 10/10

9. Nothingwrong- Back to rock!! Love the opener. very very catchy. 9/10

10. Night Drive- Lyrics are very well done. This song fits the album very well. 9/10

11. 23- BEST SONG FROM JIMMY EAT WORLD!!! I love this song. I listen to it everyday and never gets old. Its long but thats what makes it so good. 11/10

5 out of 5 stars Man this is still good.......2007-03-19

I thought they were going to suck this time around but the music is solid. How many times have we all acted like "nothing wrong", I love lyrics with a minor philosophical tint. The chorus in "night drive" is cool. I'm sure they'll be some purists out there complaing, as always, but this is good stuff and a great effort.

4 out of 5 stars over-production.......2007-03-08

This is a perfect example of how an over-production can botch an album. If you decide to pick this up, I highly suggest you get the special edition version because it comes with the demo disc of the entire album. This demo disc is by far superior than the actual release. I am giving this album four stars because it is not quite as great as Clarity, and I am basing my rating on the demo disc. If I had not picked up the special edition, it would get a much lower mark.

5 out of 5 stars Rocking harder.......2007-01-18

This CD isnt as upbeat as thier last album.. in fact its much more somber. BUT, that doesnt mean that they arnt good. THIS CD IS THE BEST I have EVER heard as a whole. Each song individually rated should be like 4-5 stars... its so good. MUST have for any collection

5 out of 5 stars Love it.......2007-01-09

5 out of 5 stars I am but one small instrument...........2007-04-15

Is there anyone that does not like Jimmy Eat World? Surely they are one of the greatest bands of our time.. and this is my favorite of their albums. I think most everything has already been said here.. but I will just mention that this is probably the most experimental and unique of their work(drum machine and lots of violins). They simply dont do songs like this anymore. Nothing wrong with that, just know that this is a step out of place for J.E.W.

4 out of 5 stars Hypnotizing.......2007-03-19

The slower songs are so hypnotic, the vocal harmonies put me to sleep but in a good way, i guess i should say its relaxing. Lucky Denver Mint, Your new asthetic, and beleive in what you want stand out. I like the faster songs better when i'm feeling impatient, but the slower songs have a place too. A lot of later bands copied or were at least influenced by this sound.

4 out of 5 stars must hear; beautiful music.......2007-03-02

OH god emo!! Yes, it is a genre that connotes excruciating sonic pain; just hearing that word makes one want to become an emo serial killer. But, music is music brother, and this is darn good music, regardless of the lame stigma. Don't accept the label!

Clairity is catchy pop rock, and much more. It's full of moving beautiful melodies and great harmonies, lyrics that are meaningful, progressions that are thoughtfull, and generally touching songs; none of that screaming crap either.

The instrumentation is not in any way bland; they don't display tremendous technical prowess, but it's perfectly pretty and layered quite well; enough to keep one interested. It's not cookie cutter pop music.

It's very well produced, and after listening to it 1 or 2 times, you will begin to understand why all the hype.

After years this record still evokes feelings. Highly recommended.

3 out of 5 stars Decent.......2007-01-18

This CD isnt the best, JEW gets better and better. Get bleed america and futures - they are the bomb. This CD does have its moments though.

5 out of 5 stars A Solid EP.......2007-05-10

Im not 13 just didnt want to make an account....Im 21 and I big fan of J.E.W. and "Stay On My Side Tonight" is a must buy cd.

1. Disintegration- At 7 minutes and 44 seconds this song is just wrote and recorded so perfectly. I love the drum-line in the song. This is a song that makes Jimmy Eat World so amazing. 10/10

2. Over- Probably a song that could have fit into "Futures". This is another well put together song. Lyrics are really good. If I had to pick the best song on this EP this would probably be it due to its good length in time Its not too short and not too long 10/10

3. Closer- Hmm dont really know what to think of this song. The beat is a little too much which clouds the song. The bass is just too heavy. Could be a really good song if that was fixed because everything else is sharp. I love the guitar riff towards the end and that is what saves the song and rocks at the end. 7.5/10

4. Half Right- Another song that could have been on "Futures". Probably more than "Over". I believe this is a cover of a song. Its classic J.E.W. tempo and flow. Just another solid song. 10/10

5. Drugs or Me [Styrofoam Remix]- Hmmm...yeah....ahhh...this Remix doesnt fit on this cd or with Jimmy Eat World. Its pretty bad and just forget this song is on the cd. I love "Drugs or Me" on "Futures" but this is not good at all. 0/10

3 out of 5 stars I wish it were longer!.......2007-02-05

I enjoy Jimmy Eat World -- I own two of their albums and attended a concert of theirs in 2005. When I saw this newest album, I jumped on the chance to purchase it and I'm glad that I did. My favorite song is "Closer" while my least favorite song is "Half-Right." The entire album is fairly mellow, "Closer" being the most up-beat of the songs. There is also an interesting techno remix of "Drugs or Me" from the album "Futures." My one disappointment is that the album is not longer; I expect it was put out as a B-Side album for "Futures." If you have a few bucks, invest in this short C.D.

5 out of 5 stars One of their best.......2007-01-12

This band has yet to let me down. I'm very rarely into emo music, but this kind of steps outside of the genre. In fact, it's just really good slow, melodic rock, and this CD has some of the best slow, interesting songs. I've always been a bigger fan of their slower songs than up tempo pop songs. That's where they really define themselves. Futures was a great return to that style after Bleed American. If you like the slower songs on Futures and Clarity, you'll love this CD.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing........2006-09-06

This would be worth it even if it just contained either "Closer" or "Half Right". Both of those songs are AMAZING. Especially the "Half Right" cover, they managed to stay true to the original. As a heavy JEW fan, it was nice to finally hear the Heatmiser song they refer to in "Kill" (off of Futures). Must have for any fan.

5 out of 5 stars Jimmy Eat World is amazing.......2006-07-05

Stay on My Side Tonight includes the amazing song "Closer" - I actually already bought this cd on iTunes but it was so good I wanted to have the whole package, case and insert and everything.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing, breathtaking........2006-09-02

This CD is absolutely amazing. As an emotion filled seventeen year old teen, I've always loved and identified with all of JEW's works since I jumped on the Bleed American bandwagon in 2001. This CD is by FAR my favorite though, with Clarity in a close second. Static Prevails is just filled with so much emotion that's hard to put in to words but is so easy to identify with and relate to, especially at this time of my life. This CD can invoke a variety of emotions in me. At times it's made me smile with pleasant memories of a more carefree time of my youth, and at others it's made me cry remembering lost love and friends that drifted away. It really is hard to put in to words, but this album is just an all around amazing experience. Not only is this my favorite of JEW's works, but it's my favorite album of all time.

5 out of 5 stars Greatest Band Of ALL TIME!.......2006-06-29

If your reading this review, most likely you've already heard of Jimmy Eat World, and already know that they wont let you down with anything less than amazing music. So you are reading this reviews because you love JEW and you like to see when other people agree. JEW RULES!!!

This Cd is amazing, if you have not heard it, then i suggest you buy it without a second thought, because you know you wont regret it. In my oppinion the greatest song on this album is the emotion filled "Anderson Mesa" In this phenominal track you feel the Emotion Jim Adkins portrays the extrem happiness Like your in a dream, in which your floating and wind is carrying you out into a field of sweet sweet rock. This is a great cd go buy it and love it as much as i do!

5 out of 5 stars My Favorite Album of All Time.......2006-05-27

If you've noticed, there's plenty of reviewers saying this is their favorite album ever. I've got tingles down my spine writing this right now, that's a good album.

I have yet to find another album that sounds anything close to this. With tons of RAW, EMOTIONAL, screamy vocals, and plenty of beautiful little indie-style riffs with breathy vocals to complement how the intense emotion leaves these guys drained and helpless, this album can take you from screaming along to tears in a matter of minutes. Example "Digits" starts of with some unique guitar and drums, setting up the theatrical 2 and half minute burst of energy followed by Jim crying "i really want to care when you say 'I'll change that.'/Just don't feel a thing when you say 'We'll get there someday.'"

While most people might have a hard time listening to the vocals, if you're into raw and energetic stuff (i.e. GUK's - Four Minute Mile, Fugazi, and other raw emo-ey stuff) you will LOVE this album.

This is the most honest and heart-felt piece of work in my huge music collection of indie-punk-emo kinda rock. If you don't love it immediately, you will in a year. I promise.

2 out of 5 stars Good for a bunch of high school kids!.......2006-05-23

I'm a huge JEW fan, but I am not fond of this album. The vocals are rough and the songwriting isn't near as catchy as their latest records. However, I have to give them some credit. They recorded this album when they were in high school! Not bad for a bunch of high school kids!

the noisy beginings of Jimmy Eat World. Here the bands major label debut showcases the begining stages but here they dont sound anything like what they've become. Here the band dabbles in noisey emotive-punk and some dabbles in post hardcore. the songs arent particularly tuneful but the enrgy is defiently evident here in this btahc of songs. Jim adkins voice here is virtually unreconizable to his signature tenor of late (a similar case with Silverchair....getting more and more tuneful as time went on). This is probablly not something you should start off with this band

5 out of 5 stars Fancy a good EP.......2005-03-16

Swell. "Lucky Denver Mint" and "For Me, This is Heaven" appear just as they do on "Clarity." If you're contemplating purchasing this EP, you've probably already heard those two songs a thousand times (and hopefully enjoyed each listen more than the last), so I'll dive right into the 'non-Clarity' tracks. The demo version of "Your New Aesthetic" is really beautiful. It hardly resembles the album version, though, and save a few lyrics, I wouldn't know how to begin to explain how one version spawned from the other. This version is paced more slowly and is more melodic. Love it. "Softer" and "Roller Queen" are beautiful songs as well. The vocals in "Softer" sound a little bit different than usual, with a bit of exaggerated falsetto in the verse. The harmonies are interesting and very pretty. "Roller Queen," if I'm not mistaken, is an 'all-Jim' song. It's a little bit longer than the other songs on here, toeing right off the far side of 6.5 minutes, but it's worth every second. I love the near-constant harmonics throughout the song. It's not over-kill. It's not too complex. Another more slowly paced song, but not even coming close to boring. I'm very content to have this recording in my collection. All Jimmy Eat World fans need it, especially if you're a big "Clarity" fan. Wait. Aren't all Jimmy Eat World fans "Clarity" lovers?

5 out of 5 stars A Tasty Little EP With Solid Tracks.......2003-03-27

This EP is great. It was the "teaser" for fans who were getting restless between 1996's Static Prevails and 1999's Clarity. It had three songs from the upcoming Clarity- Lucky Denver Mint, For Me This Is Heaven, and Your New Aesthetic (which was an acoustic demo version compared to the straight-forward rock version on Clarity). It also had two non-Clarity tracks, which could have been on Clarity in my opinion. Softer is my favorite song on this cd. It is mindblowing live, it has an amazing texture of music and vocals inter-weaving into an amasing song. Roller Queen is a song Jim Adkins (vocals, guitar) did everything on. Think folk with experimental sounds. All in all, a worthy adition to have in any Jimmy Eat World cd collection (I know, it's in mine)

5 out of 5 stars awesome.......2000-12-18

this cd is great. i am a huge fan of jimmy eat world. the first two songs appear on the "clarity" album also. the demo version of "your new aesthetic" is sooo pretty and cool. "softer" is one of my fav j.e.w songs as well as "rollerqueen". all in all this is a rad ep.

4 out of 5 stars a good ep, but "clarity" is better.......2000-04-25

this is a fine ep, for all you b-side craving emokids. it truly is a must-have for all hardcore jimmy eat world fans. "lucky denver mint" and "for me this is heaven" appear on the "clarity" record and are fine songs in their own right. the demo version of "your new..." is great. a true gem of a song. it bears little resemblance to the song of the same name that appears on the "clarity" album. a few of the lyrics are the same, but other than that, it is completely different. "rollerqueen" is a dandy, too. with it's incessant guitar harmonics and other 'sounds' , it is fantastic. i feel that it is too good to be a b-side. at the same time, it is too strange to be placed on a record released by a major label. "softer" is the only song on this ep that doesn't really do much of anything for me. it sounds all to similar to the tracks on "static prevails". a good track, indeed, but not at all spectactular. if you like this, i recommend the following: "clarity" by jimmy eat world. "songs for the brokenhearted" compilation. "foma" by the nixons, and... "diary" by sunny day real estate.

4 out of 5 stars really good ep.......1999-07-23

This cd's awesome, but to tell you the truth, every JimmyEatWorld cd is awesome. The lyrics seem really heartfelt, and the songs are really great. It's puts you into a different mood.

4 out of 5 stars They still loved us.......2005-04-27

Thank heavens. A collection of songs not released on a full-length, they released this one to keep the fans alive during the purgatory between "Clarity" and "Bleed American." Tom's first two songs, "Opener" and "77 Satellites," come from one of the first 7" records they ever released, and they're two of my favorites on this cd. I love Tom's voice, and "Opener," especially, is a quintessential Tom track, with great guitar parts throughout as well. The third track, "What I Would Say to You Now," is absolutely my favorite on the cd, as it's also one of my all-time favorite Jimmy Eat World songs. Jim's vocals are raw and sincere, the drums are perfect, and the guitar part is great, particularly in the verse. "H Model" has both guys singing lead parts, the vocals aren't dead on-key the whole time, but it still comes together great with the harmonies, and it definitely has the spirit. "Ramina" is a good instrumental. I absolutely love it... it sounds like it could easily fit somewhere on "Clarity." "Christmas Card" is a fun Jim-lead tune, with one of the little guitar riffs having a "For Me, This is Heaven" feel to it, but "Christmas Card" is definitely its own song. "Carbon Scoring" is another short tune, with a hint of fast punk rock in it. The closing song, "Digits," seems to be a fan favorite. It has a cool, long intro, and there's no way you'll be able to fall asleep to this cd, as the opening lyrics "Pay attention!" will certainly catch you off guard if you're nearing a slumber. They released a longer version of this song on "Static Prevails." All in all, it's a really nice cd to have if you're more than a surface Jimmy Eat World fan. I still pop it in my player quite often, so I've found it to be worth every penny.

5 out of 5 stars brilliance on disc.......2004-10-03

first off, boston based? the editorial review is way off. jimmy eat world hails from tempe, az. secondly, in no way was this recorded at shows or whatnot. these are demos and singles from 7" records and other out of print rarities.

with that out of the way, let me say that this is one of the best jimmy eat world records, which dosent say much, seeing as the only one i dont recommend to everyone is bleed american, which is still a pretty decent disc. this album, however, showcases much of the subtlety and intelligence that these guys can cram into their sounds, and also shows you a bit of what they used to sound like when they were pretty hugely punk and punk alone. recommended tracks include what would i say to you now, opener, spangle, untitled (which the track listing dosent list for some odd reason,) ramina, and h model.

you wont be disappointed. unless you like bad music.

5 out of 5 stars Die hards only.......2004-07-29

This review is going to cover two aspects of the CD: production and musical content.
1) Production: This CD was mostly recorded during shows, resulting in a sound that is very raw at times. While it was a brilliant move to save money wasted on studio time people may feel betrayed at the loss of quality. It's a really decent recording regardless. 3 stars.
2) Music: I love the music on this CD. You get the full spectrum. Styles range from mellow sleepers to the all out rockers that you'd come to expect. As all other owners of this CD know, a special shout out goes to track three. 5 stars.
I'm going with the five star rating as I value the music much more. I love the variety. That's all. Buy it, you die hards.

3 out of 5 stars I was expecting more........2003-10-15

Ahh, Jimmy Eat World's single collection album is good, but I was expecting more. I thought it'd be as good their other albums. This isn't as good as "Static Prevails", "Clarity", or even "Bleed America". It's just old stuff, out of print singles, and b-sides. This by all means isn't bad at all. I had too high of expectations and I'm just a moron. The first two songs are really good and sound like something off of "Static Prevails", Tom sings these songs. The next two are also great. "What...." is a really good indie tune, and "Speed Read" will put you to sleep with its quiet music and sincere vocals. "Spangle" is a decent song that is a break up song, but runs a bit too long. "H Model" is a nice break from all the slow songs before, it's a catchy rocking tune. "Ramina" is an instrumental, that gets repetitive after two minutes, but it's good. "Christmas Card" is a nice song, which sounds like something around "Static Prevails". "Untitled" is another instrumental, I just can't get into the instrumentals. "Carbon Scoring" is funny to hear after all the slow songs, it's fast and punk rawk. The last song is an early version of "Digits" from "Static", it's shorter and is a bit faster.

This should probably get a four, but the instrumentals and my high expectations pull it down. If you don't have all the J.E.W.albums buy them first, the other three are all really good. If your thrist for J.E.W. continues or you have one now(after owning their other records), buy this.

3 out of 5 stars Static Prevails the sequel.......2003-07-27

Could Jimmy Eat World not stay consistant from one album to another even once?
In all 3 of their major label releases they sport an entirely new sound. With most bands I'd be upset by something like this but with jimmy eat world each sound is amazing. If your in a certain mood you basically have three different albums to pick from. Who needs to buy a cd from any other band.
For those of you who just couldn't get enough of their first big release, Static Prevails ,this album is for you. The good majority of these songs are all before they got signed to a big record company and are raw and sometimes not in the best quality.

It's easy to see how some of these songs didn't make an album cut but overall I fairly enjoyed the album.
It starts off with the song appropriatly titled "Opener" It's nearly 6 minutes long but it will get your blood pumping. The album begins to get repitative in place. "H Model" and "Carbon Scoring" are two songs that mix things up, and even seem out of places, not really songs you'd expect to here from these guys.
"Ramina" is as cool as a rock instrumental song will get, and "Spangle" is probably the only song on here that could of fit on both Static Prevails or Clarity, but in being able to do that it landed itself on neither. The album ends with the original version of "Digits" it was later altered and rerecorded for Static Prevails.

I fairly enjoyed this album but there is one reason i really decided to get it in the first place. "What I Would Say to You Now" those words alone sum it up. One of the best songs Jimmy Eat World has ever written. You can't call youself a true jimmy fan until you hear this song. It may not be in the best quality, and you may not be able to make out the words until a few listens but once you do you'll be hooked.
Do I recommend this album? Not really, unless you're a big Jimmy Eat World fan or you've got deep pockets. But I don't think this band has ever done anything wrong and I've never met a jimmy song I didn't like.

5 out of 5 stars Great songs, good production.......2002-04-27

Jimmy Eat World is ready to make the transition from cult-hero Indie band to modern pop supergroup with this, their most polished work to date. Bleed American is a very slick, listenable CD from start to finish, with the tight harmonies, infectious beats and intelligent lyrics for which the group is known. From the rougher edge of the title track to the glossier "hard pop" of A Praise Chorus (with a wink and a nod to hits by numerous groups like Madness and They Might Be Giants in the lyrics) this CD never misses the mark.

3 out of 5 stars not their most memorable work........2007-07-16

first of all, this is not the jimmy eat world you think you know. if you just finished listening to bleed american or futures and are looking into buying this cd, stop right now, this cd isn't for you.

for those who are fans of jimmy's earlier work this is an intriguing collection of songs in the same vein as static prevails. the problem is, it's hardly as memorable as there isn't a single stand out track in the group. it's surely interesting, but not necessarily worth your time.

jebediah's contribution at the end of the split cd isn't much better. the only song worth listening to is the ending track, "harpoon" and even that will have you searching for where you last placed jimmy's prized album, clarity.

if you're a rabid fan of this band, or an obsessive collector, you may want to pick this one up. but if you're a music fan, you should probably skip over this lackluster effort.

2 out of 5 stars First 10 and last 3 have very few good parts........2006-02-20

I would just like to say that the first disc is not even worth wasting your time with. I am one of the biggest JEW fans you will ever find and this is the worst cd by far that they have ever come out with. The best song on the first disc is when they are not singing. If you enjoy JEW and their soft and melodic ways then this is not your cd. While listining I was wondering if this was even the same band that produced the two greatest cd's I've ever heard (Clarity & Bleed American). The cd pretty much consist of someone who you can't understand screaming and bad guitars. I am writing this to warn people that the first disc is awful and don't even waste your time. Now the second disc is slightly different. The first two songs are spectacular and that is the only reason they got 2 stars. The third song is just a badly-done version of one of my all-time favorite songs "Cautioners." If you really want to hear this disc just search "Jebediah" on amazon and look for JEW and Jebediah and you can buy this disc seperate from the other one. Jebediah is an awful band and doesn't even deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as JEW. So all you die hard JEW fans like me. Stay as far away from this cd as possible and put on Clarity because you may never hear anything that good from Jimmy Eat World ever again.
