4 out of 5 stars C&C at their best.......2007-07-04

This album should be called "The Best of Coheed and Cambria". The opening track is a refined version of the opener from SSTB, and it just gets better from there. Title track gets the show going quickly, with the two radio singles sprinkled into the "storyline" that is C&C's trademark. Personal favorite is Camper Velorium III. Where else can you here the line "Die white girls, bye bye world."?

5 out of 5 stars This is what introduced me to the wide world of prog........2007-03-09

Coheed and Cambria... I've listened to quite a number of different bands in the last 2 years, but there are really only two that I still listen to routinely: Coheed and Cambria and Weezer.

I think I like Coheed better because of their prog tendencies. Especially The Light and The Glass and The Camper Velorium III (the latter isn't very prog, though).

This band's a really good transition from the pop-punk most people listen to to the prog that really blows the mind. They don't seem to do a lot of weird time signatures like Dream Theater or Genesis, but the ongoing story and extended tracks make them prog. Halfway.

Just, please, don't call them emo or punk. For my sanity.

5 out of 5 stars keeping the secrets.......2006-11-12

Coheed & Cambria, made a giant leap from their first LP. One big difference is Claudio's vocals. They have grown deeper on this album (quite a blessing) and the songs are filled with wonderful guitar ballads (In Keeping the Secrets of Silent Earth: 3, Cuts Marked In the March of Men, The Crowing). Between the awesome guitar playing, the lyrics are definitly something to pay attention to (for ex. "I'll do anything for you...I'll cut the throats of babies...), yeah these songs can be violent and beautiful at the same time. The Light & The Glass, is also another beautiful song (which includes the line "Good Apollo, I'll be Burning Star IV", referencing the title of their next album). If you have never heard of this band, well try this cd. You will be hooked. Fans of the first cd, well you probably already have this.

5 out of 5 stars Co&Ca Fans rejoice! (hehehehe).......2006-11-10

Coheed & Cambria's second release, third part in Claudio Sanchez's epic sci-fi story, and heaviest album yet. Right from the start it pulls you in with the amazing guitars, technical drums, and emotional vocals. A definite for any one even the slightest bit interested in Co&Ca.

1 out of 5 stars I can't believe you people.......2006-10-05

Since when was it good music for a guy who sounds like a girl to blurt out expletives overtop of lame chord progressions? Never! This album seems to be the band's most respected work, though if you ask me they deserve no respect. The brains of all these five star reviewers have apparently been numbed musically, because surely no-one in an upright American society would be fooled into thinking this so-called "Music" is actually good for the ears. Wrong-o! This album, right here, is the worst CD I have ever heard. I promise you that is no spur of the moment exaggeration, it's just so awful. This band needs to lose its popularity NOW. They're just like New Found Glory and Rush; ruined by the singer. But in this case, the music wouldn't have been any good with another singer even; everything that could go wrong has.
If you want GOOD music, ya ain't gonna find it here! I highly recommend Muse, Fatboy Slim, Chemical Brothers, and Oasis, but that's just me. This CD is so horrible; I could go on forever about its inferiority in the music world but the music speaks for itself. Sheesh does it suck. 'Tis all 4 now.

1 out of 5 stars A stain on modern music.......2006-12-04

It's a darn shame that the average rating for this item is four and a half stars, because anyone with respect for music would rate it one or at least two. Claudio has no talent with songwriting, singing, or with his appearance for that matter because he has a really stupid-looking beard. Whoever told Claudio has talent as a singer is a dolt. IT takes nothing more than ears and a cerebrum to tell that he sounds like a girl, and for that matter a girl who has no talent at singing. But of course the problem with this awful band extends beyond their singer, the music is also entirely worthless. No skill with guitars whatsoever. Also, whether you like it or not this is emo, and the majority of emo is awful. I have no idea why this band gets so much respect while sounding worse than every other emo band out there. This horrible band needs to quit know, they got lucky that people who like bad singers came their way. Lame-o

5 out of 5 stars This album is EPIC!.......2006-11-15

I stumbled upon "A Favor House Atlantic" on a friend's iPod about 6 months ago, and I've been listening to 3 Co&Ca CD's ever since. This one is, by far, my favorite.

One thing to note, this band had a backwards effect on me. I originally enjoyed the poppier songs, but after listening to the CD for quite some time - I find the most rounded and musically inspiring (I'm talking goose bumps, people) - are the darker songs that you will (more than likely) skip over when you first listen to the CD. Now I rarely listen to the poppy stuff, and go straight for the meat of album.

It is important to note that the album is the telling of a story about the sci-fi (comic) world created by the band's lead singer, Claudio Sanchez. Each song is told either through the eyes of one person in the comic, or through the eyes of 2-3 people. There are plenty of references online to help you understand what some of the cryptic lyrics are referring to. Trust me, none of them will dissapoint. As you develop an appreciation for the story, this will only amplify your appreciation for the music. It's amazing how gifted these musicians are.

The most mind-blowing (mind-blowingest?) tracks, IMHO:
The Crowing - a dark song depicting the struggle of Ambelina, a member of the Prize, that has been sent (forced by the Prize) to watch over the lead (who also happens to be named Claudio) in our comic story.
The Entire Camper Velourium Trilogy, but if i had to pick my favorite, it would be No. 2: Backend of Forever - This song is by far my favorite Co&Ca song. The story behind the song is quite interesting, as well. It will not dissapoint.
The Light & The Glass: Slow to heavy to slow, a Co&Ca classic.

The only caveat is that Claudio's Geddy Lee-pitch voice can be a deterent for many, but you will get used it very quickly and learn to appreciate the musical genius of this bad. It takes a little bit to get used to Claudio's voice, but believe me - this album will grow on you and ultimately be one of your favorites.

5 out of 5 stars Yet another band people mistake for 'emo'........2006-03-08

Oh, god. It really irritates me when people call this band and My Chemical Romance emo, because neither of them are. My Chemical Romance is a gothic pop-rock band, and Coheed And Cambria is just straight up progressive rock. I own all three of their albums, and I can't find any hints of them being 'emo'. Oh, and since when are these guys posers? They don't even consider themselves a punk band at ALL, and have said that MULTIPLE times, so they aren't posing as ANYTHING. Anywayyyy...

This is a pretty strong second (Um, well actually, third) chapter in their little story, and I'm still trying to figure out the whole thing. But, of course, that shows intelligence in their song writing. Oh, and some of the guitar on here is pretty awesome, too. Very catchy, good stuff. Songs like 'Blood Red Summer' and 'Three Evils' are amazing, of course. I think those are my two favorite songs ever by them, besides 'Ten Speed (Of God's Blood and Burial)' off of their newest one and 'Devil In Jersey City' off of their last. Anyway, this review sucks. So, I'll just end it by saying, if you can handle Geddy Lee's voice in Rush, then you'll probably like this.

5 out of 5 stars A Pivotal piece In Co&Ca's story.......2005-12-26

This is a fascinating recording... The combination of the stunning rhythm section , wailing guitars, and Claudio's haunting cocals leave you craving more.

I'm not going to explain the general story, because that can me found elsewhere on the internet. I'll cover this album only.

The Ring In Return - A great opener. Being a cellist, I find this orchestral section fascinating. If you listen closely, you will hear the eerieness....
The Phone Rings.
A woman answers.
Music comes from seemingly nowhere.
After it fades away, you can faintly hear a man say "Hello Apollo, Where should I begin?", which leaves more questions.

In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3- One of my favorites on the album: This is a flashback-type scene in which Coheed is with his brother Inferno. THe voice of the song is that of Inferno. It is the realisation of the repercussions of the murder of Coheed's children.

Cu ts Marked In The March of Men- Another Flashback, back to when Coheed and Cambria are trying to escape theri past. They are going to be seperated, and Coheed tries to prevent this.

Three Evils- Another one of my favorites. Flashback to when Coheed and CAmbria were STill alive. This is an Interregation/Room 101 type scene... Where Coheed finds out that his son Claudio survived, and that he is going to be killed, because he is the one they call "The vision that bares the gift to save the universe" Also, Coheed cintemplates suicide.

The Crowing- Another Flashback. Coheed is trying to call out to Claudio, with praise and hope "You Were my FAvorite" We see a response from Claudio, of sorts. (From I severed my ties... to I love them all as a son should to mother and father) and (DEar Ambelinna...)

BLood Red Summer - We're in the "Modern" era now.Claudio is contemplating his existence, basically.

The Camper Velourium series: Basically, Claudio and Ambelinna go on the Camper Velourium, a spaceship, and meet ists owner , the racist and sexist al the killer (Only White girls). They join him and leave the world they knew behind.

A Favor House Atlantic - Claudio is pursued by a bounty hunter, trying to kill him so the universe will not be saved.

The light & The Glass - THe stage is set for the next album. Al reveals to claudio that hi s murdering parents are dead. Also, there is a second mention of the name Apollo.

2113- I have no right to interpret this, because I see it as beautiful music, and the title as a Rush tribute. It is supposedly about Claudio's mother contacting him in a dream, but then again, who knows, it's a hidden track.

All in all, and with the exception of :The Camper Velourium III: Al the Killer, it's not a dark record, as compared to the following on in the series (which has lyrics like "Why aren't you smiling anymore, bitch?" and "I hope you die right now will you drink my chemical?")

5 out of 5 stars To the compete and utter moron below me..........2005-12-18

Firstly, no one calls this band punk. At all. They're progressive rock, and very good prog rock at that. I wouldn't doubt it if the only Ramones song you ever heard was "Blitzkreig Bop" and the only Rancid song was either "Time Bomb" or "Fall Back Down". And Simple Plan is not punk. Since when is some guy in his mid-20s whining about being a teenager at all punk? Good Charlotte? Dude, get some musical taste and learn about people who can actually play music, and then maybe you'll understand the greatness of this CD.

As for the CD, its my least favorite one by Coheed, but it is still by all means an amazing CD. My favorite songs on here are "In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3", "Three Evils (Embodied in Love and Shadow), and "The Crowing". At first I wasn't into "A Favor House Atlantic" at all, but over time, I've even grown to love that song as well. If you're into good prog-rock or alternative, like to listen to talented guitarists, beautifully crafted lyrics, and unique vocals, you definitley should check out CO&CA.
