Some will argue that the music of Ringside, the unignorably good-looking duo of Californians Scott Thomas and actor Balthazar Getty, is itself ignorable: Each trance and electronica-tinged song swings safely into the next, providing for a whole-disc experience that coasts pleasantly but fails to chug or challenge. Others--reviewers not put off by yet another celebrity sidelining as a rock star included--will argue that it's a great disc, and they will be right. Thomas, Ringside's tortured-sounding frontman, apes an irony-steeped Eels sound on some tracks and channels Joseph Arthur when he's in a more serious mood, but his handle on substance-suffused pop is his own. If he sidesteps power chords and pyrotechnics, it's in the interest of rounded riffs and reel-you-in hooks. Balthazar Getty, for his part, holds court in the beat department, and there he kills--"Talk to Me" pulses dreamily, and "Tired of Being Sorry" soars. Darn good stuff.......2007-02-09

I had never heard of this band until I stumbled across it on (.....)last summer, and thank God I did. The tunes of Ringside are something refreshing for ears that hear the same old stuff everyday. Each song is quite different, but the flow of the whole album is smooth, with no sub-par tracks to skip. Just let the whole cd play and kick back. I cannot think of anything that resembles the music, but I am more than pleased with the band and am hoping for another album sometime soon.

I can't wait for this band to blow up so all of us reviewers can say, "Yeah, we've been listening to Ringside for years." New age sound, catchy and singable lyrics, and a unique sound: this band has great potential to be one of the next big things. (P.S. The video everyone loves so much for "Tired of Being Sorry" was directed by Joaquin Pheonix; Ringside is already getting Hollywood attention!)

I bought this CD on a whim after I heard Joaquin Phoenix was directing their "Tired of Being Sorry" video. Whoa! I was addicted! I couldn't stop listening to it...I had to get a 2nd copy for the car just so I could stop carrying it back and forth. GREAT driving music! The songs are catchy and have a great beat...I haven't heard anything this good in a long while. I had to have more immediately and luckily found some earlier stuff of Scott Thomas'....more on the acoustic/indie side, but awesome! I highly recommend Lovers & Thieves (CDbaby.com) My faves from Ringside are "Struggle", "Trixie", and "Dreamboat 730". You will not be disappointed!

I had never heard of this band before,then I saw a show on CDUSA on Direct TV. The show played a video of one of their songs and I loved it. I took a chance and purchased the CD. I cant stop listening to it! NY,NY

I have only heard one of their songs on the radio, but Ringside is going to be huge! Their style of music is laid back and easy to listen to. They remind me of groups like The Killers, and Gorrillaz. It's definitely worth buying.

Cold Chisel deliver another fine live recording.......2004-02-19

Having been at one of the most recent Ringside concerts, I consider this CD to be the best souvenir until the Ringside DVD comes along in 2004 sometime. Although the actual concerts ran about 3 hours each night, the best performances from 4 nights in June 2003 have been selected for this 2CD set. Last time Chisel put out a concert 2LP was with the superb "Swingshift" (1981). A very hard act to follow !

The CD set list has enough "new" songs that have not been recorded live before, including the old, the new, and a couple of covers. There is enough here to keep most Chisel fans happy if you couldn't attend the concerts. The songs cover all previous albums with a couple of acoustic songs thrown in for good measure.

I cannot recommend this CD highly enough if you like your rock music loud, honest and with true passion.

fantastic playing and interplay captured.......2001-06-27

ive gone from first just liking this record to thinking its one of the best. the interplay of the band is superb. with the rhythm section taking affifs soloing ideas and playing them back. after 1 and a half years of this album lying around,it got played after i exhausted my old guitar hero records. im tellin ya. right now its kenny burrell and this guy. if you listen hard and catch this guys notes, you go for a ride.
