While not exactly classical crossover's take on The Monkees, this international quartet of young male vocalists from America, France, Spain and Switzerland shares a similar genesis. Assembled after a long talent search and audition process, they were teamed with pop producers Per Magnusson and David Krueger (Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys) and Steve Mac (Charlotte Church, Kelly Clarkson) and turned loose on a slate of classical-pop favorites, with a dramatic, dynamically nuanced read of Toni Braxton's signature "Unbreak My Heart" setting the standard. While the deceptive ease of their harmonies belie the group's disparate nationalities and talent search roots on the melodramatic "Hoy Que Ya No Estas Aqui," Morricone's glorious Mission theme, "Nella Fantasia" and the cascading "Passera," the album's pop-oriented material is a decidedly more mixed bag ."Everytime I Look At You" and "Feelings" (not Morris Albert's) soar gracefully, while "The Man You Love" seems more a throwback to the producers' boy band roots. The standard "My Way" and a lovely, bonus cut Italian version of "Unchained Melody" close the album out on a high note, even if their safe familiarity doesn't offer the promising quartet a sufficient musical challenge. --Jerry McCulley

Siempre, Il Divo's third swipe at the snobs who aim to relegate classical crossover to retirement community socials and suburban dentist offices, is as apt to snare listeners as either of its first two multimillion-selling discs: the singing is as rich and romantic, and the material as warm and enveloping. If there's anything missing, it's an overdue sense of adventure--tracks like "Nights in White Satin" and "Somewhere," like "Unbreak My Heart" and "All by Myself" before them, provide enough adult-contemporary swagger to keep anyone who has owned a couple of Streisand CDs in his or her day happy, but they come at the expense of a full-on exploration of classical no man's land; which may be this prefab, Simon Cowell-helmed act's ticket to getting out from under critics' boot heels. "La Vida Sin Amor," "Un Regalo Que Te Dio La Vida," and "Una Noche"--Siempre's three boldest tracks--provide a taste, but for now Il Divo seems content to follow a safe-bet formula. Fans won't be disappointed--overall, this is a lush, wholly unblemished disc. But those who have been taken to task by high-minded music bullies before shouldn't be surprised if they feel the need to keep the mute button handy once again. --Tammy La Gorce

Il Divo are four exceptional young men with formally trained voices who take popular songs, old and new, to another level where the historic rift between pop and classical music is finally healed. The band were formed after a worldwide search which took more than two years. Consisting of an American, Frenchman, Spaniard and a Swiss, Il Divo spent the first half of 2004 in London rehearsing and recording. This is like the opera dream team. All four of them are not only handsome but they have outstanding voices on their own. Somehow they found a way to blend their voices to make magic ...You listen to them and you sigh...The baritone Spaniard, the American tenor, the pop music Frenchman that adds sweetness to the pot, and our man from Switzerland with his sexy long hair and wonderful tenor voice.

There are those who will tell you that Il Divo, the multinational quartet of sharp-dressed crooners, synthesize Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion to concoct something worse. And they will not be entirely incorrect. Yet it's hard to argue with a sensation that has entrenched itself so deeply so fast, and a first spin of Ancora makes it harder still: while predictable selections like "I Believe in You," a duet with Celine, and "You Raise Me Up," a Spanish-sung Josh Groban retread, ratchet up the treacle, the foreign-language tracks that are truly foreign lend this foursome enough Euro mystique to redeem them. Particularly melt-worthy is "Poor Que Tu M'aimes Encore," the closer. Singing in tongues, on the face of it, sounds like a bad idea. What a fantastic compilation of musical genius. This group has something for everyone. Their music is not only romantic but their voices send tingles up your spine. Their timing is impeccable.
Besides being romantic in nature, the music also has it's twists and turns combining jazz with rock and soft blues all in one. I am very very pleased......make some more music guys & hurry it up! I'm a new fan:)

If you thrill to the soaring operatic voices of The Three Tenors (and imagine every Christmas comes with its own orchestral majesty), Il Divo has made this disc for you. The four GQ-handsome male singers were handpicked by American Idol's Simon Cowell for what seems to be their ability to sing opera and classical music with the hint of a pop sensibility. Their Christmas Collection features 10 standards (although the last time Santa looked, he wasn't quite sure "Over the Rainbow" and "The Lord's Prayer" were part of the Christmas canon). Still, it' hard not to imagine these emotionally stirring renditions as part and parcel of the reverential treatment the four finely sculpted voices bring to more exact seasonal fare such as "O Holy Night," "Ave Maria," "Panis Angelicus" and even "White Christmas." Dave Arch's predictable choral and orchestral arrangements are aimed right at the sweet spot where sophisticated church choir music and traditional classical music meet, with few surprises other than the dash of Irish folk music that colors "When A Child Is Born." In the end, for people who have never heard of Cowell and his cohosts (would Paula Abdul really have picked the tenor guy for this group?!), this collection will prove just as rewarding for them as the best-selling Idol records are for fans of the TV stars. --Martin Keller

This CD is so great that I listen to it all year round. Their voices are angleic and listening to their songs is the only thing that made me feel better after the death of my father. They all sounds like angels singing and that is what it felt like to me. Their version of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" especially makes me cry because it's so beautiful. I was blown away. I absolutely love this CD and recommend it to everyone!

Magnificient in one word. An amazing combination of classical and pop
music styles. We should be grateful to Simon for ferretting out these
talents from opera and bringing their profound skills onto the world
stage. They have a great command of the stage and exhibit a gorgeous
performance (in respect of their live performances.).

produce a thrilling experience. I hope to see them in Turkey as well

These young men have beautiful voices; some pieces they present are wonderfully moving. I was disappointed in the selection--I can think of many carols that would have better served their abilities on a Christmas album than Over the Rainbow and even Ave Maria. Hopefully their producers will work to find them more classical pieces for future works. Still in all, they are a joy to hear.

When you listen to these four marvelous young handsome men, you are transported to another place in your mind. They are each of them individually remarkably talented. One is as good as the other and they compliment each other as well as any other artist they are singing with; Celine Dion, Toni Braxton. I have heard NOTHING by them that I have not liked be it English, Spanish, French or any other language. When they sing, the music conveys what the words are saying even if you don't understand any of them. I think they are the best thing to come along and I applaud Simon Cowell for giving them the opportunity to make the world feel just a little bit better when they sing. B R A V O ! ! IL D I V O! !

I heard this group sing on Oprah and just fell in love with them. Christmas music is my favorite. I was delighted with the CD and even listened to it after Christmas. I have now stored it with my other Christmas CD's and this one is definitely my favoite. It gives me goosepumps-wonderful!
