Hot Hot Heat hail from Victoria, B.C., a town best known for imitating the queen's England in the service of tourism. But never fear: the high teas and manicured gardens are all well and good, this band knows that bad manners are what rock is all about. Case in point, the song "Goodnight Goodnight," in which a former girlfriend learns "you're embarrassing me, you're embarrassing you...this isn't goodnight, this is goodbye." There's nothing quite so much fun as a good dis song, and the Heat keeps the fun going on their newest album, Elevator. Virtually every track on the CD is short and sweet with plenty of energetic, poppy goodness. Standouts include "Ladies and Gentleman" (another semiburn: "everybody's got the same story--we never wanted him here, he showed up anyway."), "Middle of Nowhere," "Soldier in a Box"--well, I'll stop before I list them all. --Leah Weathersby

Highly anticipated first full-length album from Rainer Truby, Chris Prommer and Roland Appel. Truby Trio collaborated with such acclaimed vocalists as Wummi, Joseph Malik, and Marcus Begg to give the album a strong vocal and lyrical focus. Digipak. Compost Records. 2003.Customer Reviews:
Far from essential.......2004-05-10
The rhythm, and the swinging feel..........2003-12-02
It's normal that the percussion should be so good, as Roland Appel, a founding member of Fauna Flash and producer of the "New Sounds of Jazz" series, must have been a percussionist in his previous life. I wish more DJs could have as high of an appreciation of quality percussion as Mr. Appel does.
However, like the "New Sounds in Jazz" volumes, Fauna Flash's "Fusion" (+ remixes), as well as Truby Trio's previous "DJ Kicks", this CD just does not have enough great moments (in my honest personal opinion) that would allow me to give it, say 3 stars.
Don't get me wrong, when the T-Trio is on, it's really on. They've produced some really great tracks here: Universal Love, Runnin', Alegre 2003, Make a Move, Bad Luck, to name my favorites. However, the rest of the CD makes a huge drop-off in quality from the above-mentioned tracks. I feel that the remainder is quite an inferior product and can be quite unlistenable and boring for me, although still better than a lot of garbage out there.
While "The Rhythm" (Parts 1 + 2) contains the best sample on the entire CD, it's too bad that TT couldn't do more with it than just an intro and outro. The sample of the guy's voice repeating the lines (see title of my review) is so annoying.
But, seeing that some of the tracks are quite excellent and that no one can deny the talent of these guys, I just find my favorite tracks and make my own compilation. That's what I've done with the "New Sounds" series, as well as the previous Fauna Flash material. The result is 175 minutes across 3 CDs of great music that people love when I play it at my private parties.
My advice to Truby Trio would be to keep putting out music, and try to find an executive producer that could help with many of the rough spots. The talent is there, but it's not clicking yet for a larger audience. The Compost label is a great start, though.
Finally, I'm hoping for a new Fauna Flash CD - How about something produced outside of the confines of Munich this time, like Berlin, Paris, or Amsterdam? Get some fresh air.

Product Description
The long awaited freshman solo from one of the Pacific Northwests most gifted MCs. Many know Othello from the Lojique release, Language Arts that debuted on Syntax in 2002. Some of you even remember him on his first label recording on the Sackcloth Fashion produced Fashion Expo project, where the song he was on made it all the way to the big screen in, It Runs In The Family starring Michael Douglas. Or maybe it was his appearances on Acts29, Night Owls, and even John Ruebens second album that caught your attention. Either way this album has a soulful, jazzy, feel good hip hop vibe the way hip hop should sound! RECOMMENDED IF YOU LIKE: Lightheaded, Lojique, RedCloud, MG! The Visionary, Mos Def.Customer Reviews:

Album Description
The Mood Elevator's second album, Married Alive, sounds a lot like a Brendan Benson record. Maybe that's because the dude is all over the record. He's on drums, co-writes a bunch of songs, does background vocals, plays guitar, and produces the album. He and Mood Elevator's main man, Chris Plum, were pals in high school, and Plum is a member of Benson's backing band, the Wellfed Boys. As are all the members of the Mood Elevator. On Married Alive they mine the same rich rock territory that Benson does: '70s power pop, glam rock, new wave, and hard rock with lots of loud guitars married to big hooks involving vocal harmonies, lots of inventive arrangements, and lots of care in the sound of the record. The sound they get is live, powerful, hard-rocking, and reminiscent of the Romantics if they were smarter and Todd Rundgren if he were dumber. The overall lyrical theme of the record can be summed up by the large print in the liner notes: love breaks your heart are the words, and songs like the rocked-out "Boycott," the angular "Guilty," and the pounding "Best Kept Secret" detail the breaking of Plum's heart, heartbreakingly no less. Modern power pop wouldn't have the somewhat deserved reputation of being a pretty lame impersonation of the past if all the records were as good as this one. Fans of Benson should get Married Alive ASAP, while fans of pop full of power, brains, and hooks shouldn't be too far behind. Tim SendraCustomer Reviews:

Titan were huge in their native Mexico at the start of 2000 but little known elsewhere. Blending a mixture of horn-driven acid-jazz with the funkier end of big beat, Elevator is a kaleidoscopic foot-tapper just right for summer days and tequila-fueled nights. With production credits that include Craig Borrell and Ross Harris (Dust Brothers, Beck) as well as Michael Franti (Disposable Heroes), these are no ordinary grooves. Opener "1, 2, 3, 4" is B-52s for the chemical generation, while "Corazon" combines squelchy Hammond organs, vocals reminiscent of Sergio Mendes's "Brasil '66," and the head-nodding spirit of the Wiseguys onto one track. The album also includes Titan's signature piece, an inspired interpretation of the theme to the '70s cop show Starsky & Hutch. "Cum on Feel the Noize" is a more literal cover, but elsewhere on this retro-heavy collection, the ghost of Huggy Bear looms large and proud. --Paul TierneyCustomer Reviews:

Innovative Psycho-Delia.......2004-02-15
As the title suggests, this is their most far ranging effort, combining elements of punk and heavy riffing rock with the main psychedelic elements. Mix in some experimental cut tape bits (think Beatles No. 9) with between song links and you have a very ambitious lo-fi masterpiece.
Rick's voice tends to be well down in the mix, bolstered by reverb altered backround vocals by bassist Tara White. While their music borrows from punk and heavy rock, the vocals are not of that domain, being softer and gentler.
Taste of Perspective contains a lot of music and while some is not to my taste, the material that works is quite brilliant. Oh Traveller Beyond is a brilliant piece of psychedelic innovation, imploring explorers from other dimensions to take them with them. A closed hi-hat provides an upfront rhythmic base, and a mournful synth sound colours the musical peak, a sonic other dimension to match the lyrics.
Balance, and Serenity are also wonderful. The Animals features acid guitar licks from Rick White and a hoot of a chorus (the spoken/shouted "We are animals!") They aren't without spots of humour.
Flying begins peacefully, but ominous rumbling guitar feedback advances like a sudden thunderstorm in an otherwise calm day. The storm of drum rolls and thunderous guitars are punctuated with creepy eye of storm lulls before the next lashing is unleashed. There is something psychotic in this alternately otherworldly and bludgeoning piece - you won't be able to take your ears off it even as it frightens you.
There are other memorable songs and sounds on this record, plenty in which to lose yourself. Over all this is a very robust, ambitious and successful album - desert island consideration for sure.
In addition to its predecessor, Vague Premonition, and its successor, the aforementioned Darkness Light, this is highly recommended music. Rick White has also collaborated with the Sadies on some of their more psychedelic offerings, and if you're familiar with that music you will likely enjoy Elevator.
The Sadies and Elevator, along with Greg Keeler from Blue Rodeo, have also formed an outfit they've dubbed The Unintended. Their just released debut effort is also highly recommended as a softer more folk tinged album of psychedlia.
great.......2002-04-18
elevator - previously called elevator through, previously called elevator to hell, previously called eric's trip......there are some good songs and some great experimental sounds, more in between song sounds than on anything else they have done, but its still just about bare-able!!
