In the midst of the late 1970s punk/new wave revolution, England's Supertramp tore a page from the Genesis playbook, suffusing their previously overwrought prog-rock influences and bittersweet hippie optimism gone sour with muscular pop hooks. They eventually became one of the world's foremost rock acts--and later a rich source for contemporary TV commercial music. But while Supertramp peaked quickly, they nonetheless spawned at least two bona fide classic albums--Crime of the Century and Breakfast in America--and a slate of FM radio staples, all of which are included on this near 80-minute anthology. Fully three-quarters of Crime is represented, and rightly so. That 1974 album both stripped down and reinvented the band's sound, centering it around the songs of Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson, pulsing electric piano chords, and distinctively reedy vocals on tense, spare songs like "Bloody Well Right" and "Dreamer." But by the time of the multiplatinum Breakfast, they had refined their edgy prog sensibility to virtual extinction with well-crafted pop hits like "The Logical Song" and "Take the Long Way Home." This is a great "greatest hits" Cd by SUPERTRAMP. The recordings are so crisp & sharp! A fun Cd to listen to, ....anytime (especially if you like Supertramp, as I do!)

I orderered the Very Best of Supertramp after debating between Breakfast in America (which I once owned on LP) and the former. I liked the cuts from Breakfast in America the best. I do love this group, though, they are eclectic and they have a very unique sound.

After listening to this music 20 years ago and forgetting about it, the internet radio station played it a few tunes. I had forgotten just how good this music was. I only wish that they would put it out in 5.1 surround format. This is some of the best music from the 70's. A must have for any audio file.

I bought this to restock the Cd's having owned the vinyl album for over 20 yrs. I was not dissapointed, all those early memories coming back when I first heard this again. Pure nostalgia and neither the music or the lyrics have dated over the years. A true super group. Go on give yourself a treat and buy this cd, you will not be dissapointed.

He said these guys are in the cut-out bin(chuckles). They are not there, they still sell records but not as much as they did in their hey-day but reasonable enough to keep albums in print. Supertramp are still popular in Europe and Canada whilst most of America got brain-washed by those losers at MTV who wanted to show pretty boys who turned out to be pitchers for the other team and women who look like prostitutes showing T and A to sell records. Supertramp sold records on MUSIC and not looks! This second best of was released because they had so many good songs that didn't fit on Best of 1 like Babaji, Fools Overture, Waiting So Long, My Kind of Lady and so much more. Buy now!

Good collection..........2002-03-08

One thing I like this album about most is that all the songs are album versions, while previous collections used to be single version or excerpt. Running time is almost 79 minutes. I think songs were well chosen and sound quality is good. I hope this should have been "ADD" though.

All Time Favourites.......2001-07-18

One of my all time favourites for sure.This album presents some of the best Supertramp hits from 1974-1982 Without a shadow of a doubt Supertramp provided some of the best music of the 1970's and early 80's School is a remarkable commentary on the alienation and frustration many feel during their school years. "Goodbye Stranger -which beautifully blends the vocal talents of Roger Hodgson and Rick Davies -is all about quitting drugs and came out at the same time as David Bowies Ashes to Ashes which explores a similar theme at a time when the libertine trends of the 1960's and excess of the 1970s had drawn tio a close and the world was forced to sober up. The Logical Song is my favourite of favourites and deals with the yearning for ones lost childhood -a time of idyllic and beautiful innocence before being forcibly moved into a cold and clinical world-a world obsessed with "reason" and rejecting feeling and intuition Rudy deals with the loneliness and pain of a man who has been ignored by those around him and has never found love and companionship.Something that is quite common in todays world While Hide In your Shell and Give a Little Bit exhorts people to give and recieve love and thereby bringhappiness to themselves and others Regardless of the message this is great music and also includes wonderful hits like Dreamer,Crime of the Century,Take the Long Way Home,Its Raining Again and Cannonball

Dinosaur corner.......2001-06-13

Supertramp were one of the main perpetrators of 70s Art Rock, but redeemed themselves by killer hooks that compensated for their sometimes twee lyrics. I'm therefore relieved to report that some pleasure can be derived from this collection, if only because of the sublime Dreamer. The lyrics of The Logical Song will make you cringe, while Bloody Well Right is a good example of how a clever hook can make up for silly words. For the surviving fans this is a good buy.

Most Complete Hits Collection.......2000-06-02

Too bad you have to buy an expensive import to get all their hits on one disc, but despite the price it's a real good cd. I'm not quite sure why they don't release this in the US. The other hits cd's don't include a lot their well-known songs!
