In the weeks leading up to this album's release, Robert Plant was the unlikely hit at the South By Southwest music festival, delivering such a scorching set with his band the Strange Sensation rockers a quarter of his age simply got back on their planes and went home without playing a note. This can most likely be attributed to the fact that, unlike most his classic rock peers, Plant has rarely settled since moving on from the Led Zeppelin behemoth. Over the course of eight solo albums, he's experimented with doo-wop, synth-pop and even drum'n' bass. But it's only at 56 that the Golden God is hitting his stride. On "Tin Pan Valley," he sings, "My peers may flirt with cabaret/ Some fake the rebel yell/ Me, I'm moving up higher ground/ I must escape their hell." Mighty Rearranger draws out the best qualities of his otherworldly voice, surrounding it with rich Middle Eastern textures, soft blues accents and gorgeous psychedelic swooshes. It's in keeping with the spirit of 2002's exotic and lush Dreamland, only it sounds more refined. The quiet bits are quieter and the loud bits are timely reminders that Plant was once a man possessed by a dozen dead wolverines. He's not kidding when on "Shine It All Around," he sings, "These are the days of my life/ Bright, strong and golden." --Aidin Vaziri

Product Description
Robert Plant, perhaps the greatest and one of the most recognizable voices in rock and roll delivers MIGHTY REARRANGER, an extraordinary accomplishment from one of the most inventive, consistently daring and talented figures in contemporary music. On the album, Plant is joined by his band The Strange Sensation who worked with him on 2002’s Grammy nominated DREAMLAND and have been vital in the development of Plant’s musical growth. The record is an inspired collection of new songs that are raw and bristling with energy but also rich in texture and detail. MIGHTY REARRANGER recalls the drive and passion of Robert Plant and Led Zeppelin’s strongest work taking the explosive riffs, compulsive guitar hooks and mind boggling arrangements that Zeppelin is known for and infusing the music with the modern influences of Portishead, Massive Attack and Roni Size. The result is a sonic tour de force and one of Robert’s finest offerings to date.

5 out of 5 stars Should be 10 stars!!!.......2007-03-21

One of the best things Plant has done...Plain and simple... Easily the best of any of his solo albums (and I have them all!!) and right up there with Zeppelin! I was skeptical even though I am a fan, but this cd put to rest any doubts I had. You can tell he's matured but still sounds fantastic!! I can only hope we get more albums like this soon because Im already on my second copy of this one!!!

5 out of 5 stars Can't go wrong with this........2007-01-05

This is a cd that I listen to over and over, especially in my truck. I played it for my boss and he immediately went out and bought it!

5 out of 5 stars Robert Plant Mighty Rearranger.......2006-11-10

For those of you who have been and always will be a Robert Plant fan, this is the CD for you to play everyday. The vocals and arrangements are excellent. On Tin Pan Valley you get to hear that awesome Plant Wail. I'll make it simple this a completely fantastic CD, Robert still totally has it.

5 out of 5 stars Best Robert Plant Album Yet.......2006-09-16

Simply put, Plant's best album to date. Despite his aging, unlike other classic rock vocalists, Robert's voice seems only to have improved over the past four decades. This album exemplifies Plant's fantastic musicianship. Also, the Strange Sensation is an extraordinarily gifted band, and would have to be, for Robert to choose them to back him up. Both the music and lyrics are exquisite here, and this album definitely deserved to win, though they didn't, the two Grammys for which it was nominated. Both "Shine It All Around" and "Tin Pan Valley" were nominated for 2005 Grammy awards. Mighty Rearranger was one of 2005's better rock albums. Here you will find a matured Robert Plant, who knows his current level of musicianship, and concocts a brilliant album by playing up to his capabilities. You will not be dissappointed with this CD. It features some amazing tracks such as, "Shine It All Around", which displays Plant's amazing vocals regardless of his 56 year-old voice, "Tin Pan Valley", which is a great hard rocking tune, "Brother Ray" which kind of reprises the album's tunes at the end, making for an excellent conclusion, "Another Tribe", which is a fantastic folk song, and "Freedom Fries", which is a great rock tune that makes a sound statement about America's current situation. Overall, this really is a must-buy album for any fan of contemporary rock, or for any Robert Plant fanatic. Even those who may have disliked the youthful, screeching Plant of the 70's, you may find that you'll like these tunes. I cannot think of any album from the past decade that matches the high level of musicianship to this album. Also, I would recommend getting yourself the Robert Plant and the Strange Sensation's Sound Stage DVD, from their PBS concert. It is a great live perfomance of the album's material, along with some updated versions of old Zeppelin tunes. Purchase yourself Mighty Rearranger, this is one of the greatest albums of all time!!!

4 out of 5 stars Good but certainly not great ...........2006-07-17

but then I don't think Plant will ever do an album that matches the height of his work with Led Zeppelin. What we get here is a contemplative, sometimes brooding album, in which Plant covers a wide range of sources (including his own) to create a pleasing but not all together satisfying album. He is still drawing from folk forms, but there is a pop strain to the music. I even detected a distant echo of "Indian Reservation" on "Let the Four Winds Blow." The lyrics are strong, however, ranging from his disgruntlement with his peers on "Tin Pan Valley" to an apocalyptic vision of things to come on "Another Time." Probably my favorite song on the album is "All the King's Horses," a beautiful ballad in which he contemplates the long road he has traveled.

5 out of 5 stars Great Robert Plant CD With Genuine Band.......2007-07-12

MIGHTY REARRANGER is a great Robert Plant CD, his second with Strange Sensation, which, unlike the musicians who backed him on his 80s/90s solo CDs, is a genuine band, much like Led Zeppelin was. This CD, like his five solo CDs of the 80s and 90s, continues to go where Led Zeppelin might have gone had drummer John Bonham been able to overcome his alcoholism. Anyone who loves Led Zeppelin will want this CD.

      4 out of 5 stars 4.5 Stars - Robert Plant's great new release.......2005-05-30

Mighty Rearranger (2005.), Robert Plant's eighth studio album

Who said rock stars lose their greatness when they get old? This is certainly not the case with Robert Plant. His new 2005 release with his backing band 'The Strange Sensation' is a fantastic album. More importantly, this is one of Plant's finest post-Led Zep releases and one of the most diverse albums of the year. Robert Plant, one of the great voices of rock, may be 56 but his musical ability has by no means diminished and he can still rock with the best.

I eagerly picked up this new album soon after its release, as being a big time Led Zep fan, any of the band members post-Zep releases attact my attention. I must say that I was far more than just satisfied with this album, its a great work and is definitely one of the stronger albums of the year. Robert Plant and his excellent backing band, the Strange Sensation (who are John Baggott (keyboards), Clive Dreamer (Drums), Justin Adams (Guitar), Skin Tyson (guitar) and Billy Fuller (bass)) in many ways put most current music to shame. 'Mighty Rearranger' is a multi-dimensional album which has never a dull moment and deserves all of the good praise it has gained from the critics/reviewers. Robert Plant's voice is still excellent, even if, in my opinion, it is no-way as strong and commanding as it was during the Led Zep years, but then, the man is much older now. The album actually has plenty of moments were the music sounds very Zeppelinesque, even though Plant would be the last to admit it as he dislikes talking about his years in the band (I can't understand why??). As well as some frequent Zeppelin-like guitar work, the album uses Eastern and African styles in some of the tracks as well as even some more jazzy moments. The album's cover is also one of the most unusual that I have seen but it gives a great impression of the worldwide styles used in the album.

The album opens with 'Another Tribe' and has a powerful drum opening and develops into a great, almost war-dance like song. 'Shine It All Around' is the commercial release of the album but it is an excellent song. The song has a real contemporary feel to it in a good way. Plant sings the chorus brilliantly. 'Freedom' is very Led Zep sounding with its guitar lines but it is also quite a short catchy track. 'Tin Pan Valley' is a more mellow, thoughtful song with lots of whispering vocals from Plant before a surprise screaming chorus. 'All The Kings Horses' is a nice acoustic track and 'The Enchanter' is another strong track with an eastern/blues mix to it. The next song, 'Takamba' has an eastern sound which blends in with another Led Zep-like riff. The Indian sound continues with 'Dancing in Heaven' and 'Somebody Knocking'. 'Let the Flour Winds Blow' is one of my favourites, using some bluesy style guitar work over some powerful lyrics from Plant. The title track though, 'Mighty Rearranger', for me is the strongest track on the album. Plant saves his best vocal performance for this one. The jazzy piano fusion with some rocking guitar play makes this one a killer and we see the return of the HARMONICA, a great instument so overlooked in music in the past few years. 'Brother Ray' is a strange but interesting 1 minute track which is a bit jazzy. Leave the last song running though because it runs into the hidden track, a techno version of 'Shine it all Around'.

Overall, 'Mighty Rearranger' is an excellent release from Robert Plant. This is one of his most powerful solo records to date and perhaps his most Led Zeppelin-like, which is no bad thing at all. If you want some great current music from an old rocker who knows how to do music at its best, get Plant's 'Mighty Rearranger'. The Mojo Magazine summed the album up well, 'All Killer ... No Filler!'

5 out of 5 stars Worth the money..........2006-04-27

This is definitely an excellent special edition release, but it's just a shame that it wasn't released everywhere as a special edition. These live tracks will probably end up on a boxed set someday, but what can you do? If you're a big RP fan,
you just have to have it. This is great added value to an already superb album.

5 out of 5 stars Extra content is worth the extra $.......2005-12-15

Mighty Rearranger is far and away the best CD Robert Plant has made. It's probably the CD I've enjoyed the most of any I bought this year. While the live disk is probably only of interest to Plant fans, it is excellent, and does his excellent 2005 live dates justice.

Spring for this one if you're a fan, but go for the standard release if you're jusst looking for a great listen.

5 out of 5 stars Live in Paris.......2005-12-05

Must have for the Robert Plant fan. Superb sound and track list. Rarely heard live songs such as Takamba, All the King's Horses and a great new version of Gallow's Pole.
