Editorial Reviews

Linkin Park’s second studio effort (not counting the 2002 remix album Reanimation) overflows with glossy production values and Big Rock oomph, fully embracing the pop instincts of their Hybrid Theory debut. For many, Theory sounded inexcusably corporate, from its too-timely rap-rock sound to the long list of product endorsements included in the liner notes. Meteora will only amplify those complaints, but this album is actually truer to the band’s nature. It’s still impossible not to hear strains of Limp Bizkit, Korn, Rage Against the Machine, and the like. None of those acts, howeve, would try something as blatantly anthemic as "Easier to Run," which would sound fine to a Def Leppard fan, or as borderline danceable as "Breaking the Habit" and "Session." Linkin Park is what Trent Reznor was always afraid of becoming, but if you ever wished he would drop the pretenses and just make a hair-metal record, you'll find Meteora to your liking. --Matthew Cooke

5 out of 5 stars If you rated this below 5 stars, you're obviously missing the point..........2007-06-06

I've been a Linkin Park fan for about 6 years and I admit, wasn't expecting much when I picked up this CD in early '03. Boy was I wrong, every song on this CD could most definitely be a single. While I absolutely despise radio and all it represents (except for Howard Stern...), I understand why a band would want their album to be radio-friendly (it sells a lot more records...). When I heard "Somewhere I Belong", like most people, I admit, I didn't like it. But I thought, hell, I loved Hybrid Theory, and it's Linkin Park, I should pick it up. (I know there are a lot of Reanimation fans, sorry guys, wasn't into it, if I wanted to listen to techno I would go to a dance club...) I was aching for new Linkin Park when this came out, I wasn't disappointed, I own over 300 CDs and I still listen to this one. If you haven't picked it up, and you are Linkin Park fan, you're insane, it is soooooooo much better than Hybrid Theory.

5 out of 5 stars An amalgam of styles that works.......2007-04-09

My music taste runs from deep house, techno and chill-out to rock (like 311, Helmut and Paw), Brit pop and some recent bands like Mutemath. And yet I seem to always return to Linkin Park, loving their blend of musical styles (heavy, electronic, hip-hop) and the band's raw energy. That energy is embodied in lead singer Chester Bennington, whose vocals range from liquid sweetness to soaring power. LP guitars, while sometimes dismissed as repetitive power chords, are highly appropriate for this music and VERY well done (It's also about the sound that guitarist Brad Delson gets; he's one cool dude). Moreover, LP are gifted songwriters and have very good ideas of melody; they have my full respect!

5 out of 5 stars Slightly Emo-esque, but still an awesome CD.......2007-04-04

Yes, most of "Meteora's" lyrics seem like they were written by an angst-filled teenage girl rebelling against her parents who "just don't get her". And no, there is really not much variety in the themes of the songs. But the CD is still a 5-star listen. It truly is one of the few CDs I own where I won't skip a single track. Usually I despise any form of rap / hip hop, but Linkin Park is able to successfully blend it in with their rock music in a way acceptable to even the biggest Young Jeezy haters. Vastly superior to Hybrid Theory, Meteora is an excellent CD from what has become one of my favorite bands. Now, if you're into hard metal, this is probably not for you - it seems many of the negative reviews are from Slayer fans who can't stand "Nu metal". But really, Linkin Park is not metal - more of a blend of rock and rap, with some funky electronics thrown in courtesy of Mr. Han.

Overall: highly reccommended, even if you're only a modest Linkin Park fan. It is definitely their best CD to date. And there's just some much intensity behind those angsty screams!

5 out of 5 stars Very deep songs.......2007-04-03

I'm a writer, and I find this CD perfect to listen to when writing. It's very deep and emotional, and has a pretty dark backbeat mixed with lyrics that make you feel like your life is perfect compared to theirs. It's also good to put on when you feel like laying in your bed, hating the world.

5 out of 5 stars LP ROCKS!!!.......2007-03-23

I love this cd soo much... everyone should buy it. It's one of the few cds i own where i nver have to skip a song. No matter how much you listen to it... it never gets old.

The Evil Genius Lends A Hand To LP's Emcee DJ Green Lantern invades the mixtape game with Fort Minor on this major motion mixtape. For those unfamiliar, Mike Shinoda (lead singer for the platinum rock group Linkin Park) has branched out and created his hip-hop identity, Fort Minor. With an album due out at the end of '05 (executive produced by Jay-Z), this is the official mixtape beforehand.

5 out of 5 stars better than Rising Tide.......2007-02-04

I loved Rising Tide. but after playing it for a few days, I grew quite tired of it. and after listening to the Mixtape, I realized what I was missing. The Mixtape is absolutely worth listening, it is like no other remix out there. I mean, Jimi Hendrix remix? hell yes! My favorite is the Bloc Part ft. Apathy and Styles of Beyond. and including Lupe Fiasco just made this mixtape all the more enjoyable. GET THIS

5 out of 5 stars Fort Minor: We Major (Official Mixtape).......2006-05-31

Wow. Now let me repeat myself. Wow.
This is a Mixtape Masterpiece.
Now first off, I'd just like to point out that this Mixtape, is in fact legal.
Not like most Mixtapes that are actually illegal.

Second of all, I'd like to mention that, like most all Mixtapes, this Mixtape only contains "Explicit Content", and yet does not contain a "Parental Advisory" sticker.

Thirdly, I'd also like to mention that Mike Shinoda himself (aka Fort Minor) has said that anyone who wants to, may download this Mixtape for free off of the internet, and he (Mike Shinoda) actually debuted the Mixtape for free download on the internet, before it was ever even released in CD format, on a well hidden MySpace page.
So after you've purchased the Mixtape CD, feel free to make copies of it, and give it to friends, but please encourage them to also buy a copy, so as to support M. Shinoda (aka Fort Minor), along with getting a copy or two of "The Rising Tied".

And fourth, I'll give you the complete tracklisting.

5 out of 5 stars Dope.......2006-04-18

This is the best mixtape I've ever heard. I'm not really into the mixtape scene, primarily because most of them recycle the same beats too much for me, but this one is way different. Fort Minor got creative with this one.

The production on this mixtape is off the charts. It makes the cd. Shinoda kills this mixtape production wise, and he is quickly becoming one of my favorite producers in the game. This cd contains some innovative sampling from bands you wouldn't expect to hear on a hip hop mixtape including: Guns N Roses, Jimi Hendrix, Rush, and Bloc Party; and some of the beats on here will amaze you.

Shinoda is not the most gifted emcee, but he is capable of holding his own on the mic. Apathy and Lupe Fiasco spit some fire on this cd though. Styles of Beyond and Celph Titled have their moments on the mic as well. There is even surprise guest appearance by Juelez Santana on here, who spits a hot verse also.

The official cd Fort Minor put out-"The Rising Tied" used to get a lot of air time in my whip, but this mixtape has pretty much replaced it in my cd rotation. One of my boys told me "DUDE, You GOTTA burn this cd for me" after hearing three songs on it. Fort Minor: We Major is an underground gem.

Here is a quick summary of this review--You want to own this cd. The End.

5 out of 5 stars GREATEST ALBUM EVER!!!!.......2005-08-04

I love this album and I love Linkin Park!
They're the best band ever!!

3 out of 5 stars a dissapointment.......2005-06-23

sadly it is...it's still good but if you want a genuinely good cd then pick up hybrid theory. I expected much more and this is all i got. it's ok because of faint and numb but they don't live up to the excellence and originality you'd find in hybrid theory. I mean, how can you beat the frenic beats in papercut and recreate the infamous "shut ups" in one step closer? or make a huge hit like in the end? still, it's worth picking up.

5 out of 5 stars best LinkinPark Cd ever!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2005-03-30

This is the best LinkinPark CD ever made. But I think you could have left out the session you know the 12 song the DVD is really cool to.

5 out of 5 stars AWESOME SONGS.......2004-10-28

The title says it all! All the songs are huge hits and Hybrid Theory was just as good. Will they ever make a bad song? Doesn't seem like it. Almost all the songs on this CD have been on the radio at least once. Linkin Park has done an amazing job so far. Keep making awesome music!

From the crashing angst of "Faint" to the beautiful, driving beats of "Breaking the Habit," The String Quartet Tribute to Linkin Park's Meteora paints a pitch-perfect homage to this career-making album. Decks, drums, and guitars have been traded in for viola, violin and cello. The power and the beauty of this record are translated into sweeping orchestral arrangements by a simple, yet dynamic, string quartet. These instrumental interpretations are an absolute must-have for every fan of Linkin Park and their revolutionary sophomore release.
