California's Los Lobos are the reigning kings of Tex-Mex/Rock Espanol. But this debut CD by the San Angelo, Texas band Los Lonely Boys might herald a changing of the guard. This is truly a band of brothers, led by guitarist/vocalist Henry Garza and his younger, bass-and-drum-playing siblings Jojo and Ringo. Like a lot of groups, they had to move away to achieve fame--in their case, to Nashville. But after the release of their EP, Willie Nelson heard them, put them on tour as his opening act, and recorded them at his studio. Stylistically, the Garza brothers' bilingual songs about love and life combine Stevie Ray Vaughan blues, Santana-style guitar licks and R&B. Nelson helps out on guitar, with Reese Wynans on keyboards. Produced by Keb Mo and B.B. King producer John Porter, the music is honest, driving, and down home, especially on the organ-filled uptempo tracks "Senorita" and "Tell Me Why." The stinging guitar solo on the Afro-anthemic "Onda" recalls the '70s grooves Santana built his chops on, while "The Answer" and "More than Love" are raw power ballads that show off this group's dynamism and diversity. --Eugene Holley, Jr.

One of the few contemporary bands to land a decidedly roots-rock song on the charts with 2004's Grammy-winning "Heaven," Los Lonely Boys solidified their status as youngsters with an established sound on their first disc. On this highly anticipated studio followup, all talk of the sophomore jinx dissipates with the opening soul-drenched riff rocker "My Way." Although horns are added for extra drama, the three Garza brothers nail this groove as Henry's Stevie Ray Vaughan-fortified guitar powers one of the boys' most fiery performances. Supporter and mentor Willie Nelson joins on the wah-wah driven, Waylon Jennings-styled "Outlaws," as does the brothers' musician father Enrique Sr. Tough midtempo ballads such as "Home" and the very Santana-ish "I Never Met a Woman" follow in the footsteps of "Heaven" as candidates for slow dance song of the year. Anyone entranced by the Garzas' debut will be thrilled by this classy followup that tightens some of the loose ends but displays additional confidence resulting from two years of nearly nonstop road work. The band spotlights its Tex-Mex roots on the accordion-driven "Texican Style," where near-perfect vocal harmonies drive an irresistible bluesy shuffle. Most encouraging is that Los Lonely Boys haven't succumbed to commercial pressure since their surprise hit debut. Rather, they have refined and organically expanded their approach, and crafted another classy, committed, radio-friendly Americana gem that meshes blues, Mexican, and soul with a spicy topping of hot-sauce musicianship. --Hal Horowitz

Album Description
Since their worldwide breakout in 2004, Texican trio Los Lonely Boys - brothers Henry, JoJo and Ringo Garza - have achieved multi-platinum album sales, a Grammy Award (their monster hit 'Heaven' won Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group in 2005), and widespread acclaim from critics, fans and other musicians. All those experiences and more inform their commanding, propulsive new album, 'Sacred,'.'Sacred' finds the Boys writing and playing with a new confidence, stretching their subject matter and arrangements on the album's thirteen songs, all of which they wrote or co-wrote. 'Sacred' opens with the killer one-two punch of "Diamonds," the album's anthemic first single, and "My Way," a defiant guitar shuffle that reminds listeners why Guitar World magazine named Henry Garza the Breakthrough Artist of the Year in a 2005 cover story. "My Way" also finds LLBs adding a horn section to their signature mix for the first time. Elsewhere on the album, they add other new colors to their arrangements including button accordion, Hammond B3 and Fender Rhodes, Wurlitzer electric piano and Henry's virtuosic Harmonica playing.
Other highlights on 'Sacred' include "I Never Met A Woman," the Boys' most soulful ballad to date, the impossibly catchy lament of "Roses," and "Outlaws," a song which features two distinguished guest vocalists: LLBs mentor Willie Nelson, and their father, Enrique Garza Sr. Mr. Garza - a talented Tejano and country musician in his own right - taught his sons to play their instruments, and enlisted them to be his backing band from an early age. His appearance on 'Sacred' brings the first family of Texican rock n' roll full circle.

The self-titled debut album from Texas trio Los Lonely Boys tries--and mostly succeeds--in being everything to everyone. Garza brothers Henry, Jojo, and Ringo try their hand at classic-rock grooves, Tex-Mex, bilingual pop, and traditional harmonies with deliciously ear-pleasing results. The album is perfectly suited to Top 40, Spanish and adult-contemporary radio--all at the same time. At times tracks such as "Onda" and "Dime Mi Amor" recall 1970s-era Santana, but the Boys are at their best on "Heaven," the feel-good first single, and "La Contestacion," a yearning ballad matched by pleading instrumentation. As a bonus, this Special Edition includes Spanish versions of "Heaven" and "More Than Love," but the real highlight is a Southern-fried take on Johnny Cash's "I Walk the Line." That the boys manage to make the classic song their own is no small feat. There's also a DVD featuring thoughtful live performances and music videos that offer a glimpse of the Boys in action. --Joey GuerraCustomer Reviews:

WOW!.......2005-05-21
The Garza brothers call it "Texican Rock n Roll." Thanks for that. I would be hard pressed to name their style. I hear Eagles, Santana, Ottmar Leibert, Stevie Ray. They are Country, R &B, Jazz, Blues, Ranchero, Romantica and more. Every time I listen I hear something new. JoJo's bass sounds like lead, Ringo's drums while not loud or overbearing are complex and sound big and full.. Henry, well Henry. Here is where I venture to say that at 25 years old, If not now, Henry Garza is well on his way to being the best guitarist around. He doesn't play guitar, he dances with it, and oh what a dancer.
Someone mentioned that "Hollywood" is addicting. I found every single song addicting, but I still hold out my favorite as "Crazy Dream" because of the jazz changeup. It's sooo awesome. LLB is coming to Spokane and I can't wait. Until then I'll continue playing this CD over and over again.

LOS LONELY BOYS Live at Blue Cat Blues Blue Cat Blues
(Excerpts) - ...this raw, honest, rollicking example of the band's early days should be heard by its many fans.
The arrangements aren't quite polished, the vocal harmonies so integral to the band's appeal are still being formed, and the songs (nine of them previously unreleased) are on the derivative side.
But the sound, taken directly from the board, is as crisp as the best concert recordings, and the brothers' chops and interplay are evident even at this nascent stage. Their greasy blues and Latin influences are fully formed, and though the SRV comparisons are hard to shake, there's no doubt these kids have the talent to go to the next level -- as they did, in fact, on their Grammy-nominated recording that appeared four years later.
The set's centerpiece, though not its most compelling track, is the 11-minute slow blues "Cotton Fields and Crossroads," which, despite being a little too reminiscent of Vaughan's cover of "Texas Flood," reveals deep-seated blues roots. Interestingly, the real star here is not Henry Garza's guitar (at this point, it's too imitative) but brother Ringo's sturdy drums, which propel the songs and keep the band from descending into blues cliches. The crackling, youthful energy of Los Lonely Boys on these early live recordings is reminiscent of old Johnny Winter: barely contained and ready for prime time." full review originally written by: HAL HOROWITZ - BLUES REVUE AUG/SEP 2006

STL Blues Review - by Peter "Cornbread" Cohen, CBP
"Hearing a live recording before the Los Lonely Boys "got big" is a treat for a fan. It ranks right up there with hearing the Beatles early pre-1964 recordings from the Cavern Club. Wow! 79 minutes of music to my ears!!! I like that every song is the opportunity to jam. My guess is the folks attending either of the above shows were instantly sucked into LLB fan base feeding on their raw energy, harmonizing vocals and musical abilities. The rest as they is history." - STLBluesometer 5 of 5
"Great Live CD! Better than the Fillmore Live CD... get this 1st over all other recording by this band." - J. R. Sategna, Amazon.com
"This is a great CD with great sound and songs. This was recorded when the band was hungry for popularity and it sounds like it. Great vocals-great separation and great guitar... I would get this 1st over all over recordings by this band- the three brothers rock!" - 4 Stars
"Los Lonely Boys Rock!" - Kimmy K, Amazon.com
"Awesome CD. The right mix of rock and blues. It reaches out to those who have yet to discover the talent of this young group. As for the rest of us, the "Live at Blue Cat Blues" CD is a great addition to our LLB library." - 5 Stars
"Pure Raw Energy!" - Lakota Harden, Amazon.com
"This CD recorded live in a small club setting displays the raw energy of Henry Garza's guitar playing. Their original songs are smooth and pure. Their rock n roll /Latin roots in a blues blend brings out a venerability that takes us deeper into the magic of what guitar playing does to your soul. These boys can sing, all three of them, with passion. Their orchestrated bass work, lead guitar, drumbeats and powerful vocals show that they've been playing wholeheartedly, pouring themselves into these instruments, like a sacred agreement was made when they first picked them up. In this era of overproduced tech tracks being sold everywhere, Los Lonely Boys (live at) Blue Cat Blues is a refreshing dip into their unique version of what they call "texican rock and roll". - 5 Stars

Absolutely Amazing!.......2006-04-07
I love every song on this CD. These guys are some of the best musicians I have heard in a long time. The bonus songs and videos are nice also.
Contrary to what others said, I just ripped the whold CD with Windows Media Player without a hitch. I think the earlier versions might have had that nasty anti-copy DRM that Sony got sued over and removed. My copied songs play flawlessly on all of my mp3 players. I will also try to copy the music from the videos since there are some great acustic songs not available on other cd's.
Get it, you won't be disappointed!!
WOW ~ These guys are GREAT!.......2005-10-20
We have been fans of LLB since we first heard them. (We have always been big fans of Stevie Ray Vaughan too, and these guys have the same kind of edge.) We saw LLB in concert on 6/29/05 when they opened up for Santana in St. Paul, MN, and we absolutely LOVED them! I found them to be even more entertaining than Santana (nothing against Santana at all, they were great too...I just loved the energy and sound of LLB).
I love all the songs on this CD, but for some reason song #6, More than Love, just keeps giving me the goosebumps. It's such a great song. My little girls (6 and 3) and my son (16) also enjoy listening to these guys jam!

Time to Get Lonely Everybody!!!.......2006-07-19
If you're not yet a Los Lonely Boys fan, after listening to this, their second studio album, you will be!! After the release of their first self-titled studio album, I was hooked as a HUGE fan, but still maintained that where the Boys really shined was in their live performances ("Los Lonely Boys Live at the Fillmore" cd and "Texican Style Live from Austin" dvd are available if ya can't get to see em live in concert). But after this studio album, I can't say that anymore! Live OR in the studio, these guys really rock (Texican Style, that is)!
This album adds a deeper dimension to LLB's work, with more of a Hispanic/Cojunto influence present that just makes ya want to get up and move to the music (swaying to the slow stuff and jumping to the fast, driving beat -- sometimes in the same song!), adding to various cuts a horn section (that, at first, having heard some songs live without the brass, I wasn't sure I liked, but now I'm in love with the fuller sound), a button acordian, harmonica, organ (Reese Wynans of Stevie Ray Vaughan's Double Trouble Band on some cuts), and guest vocals of Willie Nelson and the Boys' father, Enrique, Sr., on "Outlaws," a great country rock track paying tribute to all the outlaws in country rock, past, present, known and unknown.
Henry delivers driving, cutting lead guitar riffs, reminiscent of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Carlos Santana (yet even better in so many ways). Jo Jo's free-wheeling bass playing rivals or tops that of Jack Bruce (Cream's outstanding bass player), playing off of and against his brother's lead, and Ringo's talented drum-work provides the punch necessary to compete with his brother's guitars. Add to all of this, the brothers' beautifully blended harmonies (only possible from blood relations, i think) and you can't help but singing along!
Listen to the words of the songs here, whether the hard pumping rock or the slower "ballads" -- they deliver great messages, and actually say something positive about life, love, and family (a rarity in the popular music industry these days).
Any of the tracks here could be hit singles and it's hard to pick a favorite! (although the rebelious "My Way," the harmonic syncopation and guitar work of "Orale," the up-tempo Mexican sound of "Oye Mamacita," "Texican Style," and "Outlaws" are definite selections!) I definitely disagree with another of the reviews here which was somewhat critical of the last half of the album! "Texican Style," with its Cojunto beat, is a fun song and will definitely get you dancin'! "One More Day"'s message, with it's gorgeous harmonies, is inspiring, calling on us to show some more love for our fellow man while we still have time, while Henry's wah-wah on lead guitar is classic. The Mexican beat of "Memories," the toe-tapping melody of "My Loneliness," the catchy harmonica of "Home," and the melodic "Living My Life" with its great guitar riff, round out the perfect album.
The Boys already have one Grammy win and a second Grammy nomination under their belts with their first album and this second studio enterprise is sure to garner more awards.
This deluxe version includes a 22-minute dvd of fun-loving interviews and energy-packed acoustic performances of six of their new songs, some still unfinished as of its taping, showing the raw progression of their work to that of the final version of the cd. It also gives a glimpse of the Boys love of familia and the music and highlights their diversity and talent.
Buy it! You won't regret it!!!
