California's Los Lobos are the reigning kings of Tex-Mex/Rock Espanol. But this debut CD by the San Angelo, Texas band Los Lonely Boys might herald a changing of the guard. This is truly a band of brothers, led by guitarist/vocalist Henry Garza and his younger, bass-and-drum-playing siblings Jojo and Ringo. Like a lot of groups, they had to move away to achieve fame--in their case, to Nashville. But after the release of their EP, Willie Nelson heard them, put them on tour as his opening act, and recorded them at his studio. Stylistically, the Garza brothers' bilingual songs about love and life combine Stevie Ray Vaughan blues, Santana-style guitar licks and R&B. Nelson helps out on guitar, with Reese Wynans on keyboards. Produced by Keb Mo and B.B. King producer John Porter, the music is honest, driving, and down home, especially on the organ-filled uptempo tracks "Senorita" and "Tell Me Why." The stinging guitar solo on the Afro-anthemic "Onda" recalls the '70s grooves Santana built his chops on, while "The Answer" and "More than Love" are raw power ballads that show off this group's dynamism and diversity. --Eugene Holley, Jr.

One of the few contemporary bands to land a decidedly roots-rock song on the charts with 2004's Grammy-winning "Heaven," Los Lonely Boys solidified their status as youngsters with an established sound on their first disc. On this highly anticipated studio followup, all talk of the sophomore jinx dissipates with the opening soul-drenched riff rocker "My Way." Although horns are added for extra drama, the three Garza brothers nail this groove as Henry's Stevie Ray Vaughan-fortified guitar powers one of the boys' most fiery performances. Supporter and mentor Willie Nelson joins on the wah-wah driven, Waylon Jennings-styled "Outlaws," as does the brothers' musician father Enrique Sr. Tough midtempo ballads such as "Home" and the very Santana-ish "I Never Met a Woman" follow in the footsteps of "Heaven" as candidates for slow dance song of the year.

Anyone entranced by the Garzas' debut will be thrilled by this classy followup that tightens some of the loose ends but displays additional confidence resulting from two years of nearly nonstop road work. The band spotlights its Tex-Mex roots on the accordion-driven "Texican Style," where near-perfect vocal harmonies drive an irresistible bluesy shuffle. Most encouraging is that Los Lonely Boys haven't succumbed to commercial pressure since their surprise hit debut. Rather, they have refined and organically expanded their approach, and crafted another classy, committed, radio-friendly Americana gem that meshes blues, Mexican, and soul with a spicy topping of hot-sauce musicianship. --Hal Horowitz

Album Description

Since their worldwide breakout in 2004, Texican trio Los Lonely Boys - brothers Henry, JoJo and Ringo Garza - have achieved multi-platinum album sales, a Grammy Award (their monster hit 'Heaven' won Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group in 2005), and widespread acclaim from critics, fans and other musicians. All those experiences and more inform their commanding, propulsive new album, 'Sacred,'.

'Sacred' finds the Boys writing and playing with a new confidence, stretching their subject matter and arrangements on the album's thirteen songs, all of which they wrote or co-wrote. 'Sacred' opens with the killer one-two punch of "Diamonds," the album's anthemic first single, and "My Way," a defiant guitar shuffle that reminds listeners why Guitar World magazine named Henry Garza the Breakthrough Artist of the Year in a 2005 cover story. "My Way" also finds LLBs adding a horn section to their signature mix for the first time. Elsewhere on the album, they add other new colors to their arrangements including button accordion, Hammond B3 and Fender Rhodes, Wurlitzer electric piano and Henry's virtuosic Harmonica playing.

Other highlights on 'Sacred' include "I Never Met A Woman," the Boys' most soulful ballad to date, the impossibly catchy lament of "Roses," and "Outlaws," a song which features two distinguished guest vocalists: LLBs mentor Willie Nelson, and their father, Enrique Garza Sr. Mr. Garza - a talented Tejano and country musician in his own right - taught his sons to play their instruments, and enlisted them to be his backing band from an early age. His appearance on 'Sacred' brings the first family of Texican rock n' roll full circle.

This band of brothers has crated a new sound by combing many different sounds, not an easy thing to do these days.
I enjoy the Spanish songs as much as the English ones and I don't speak Spanish!
I was blow away by the Los Lonely Boys!

They did it again!! This is an awesome follow up: I Never Met A Woman( Love it!! Love it!! Love it!!!), My Way,Texican style,Diamonds etc... are just the ticket to great listening...looking forward to more of their music in the future! Orale Muchachos! & Thank you!

5 out of 5 stars The return of soulful guitar.......2007-06-22

Only a handful of guys out there delivering the goods when it comes to really great guitar with soul. The Lonely Boys nail it though, on both of their records, and this one is worthy on the strength of four songs alone. You will problaby like more of it, too. The first three songs I cannot stop playing, and 'Outlaws' is also essential. I like the rest, but those four are pure pleasure. Open up the tiki bar on the back patio and add those four tunes to the mix, and discover a few others on the disc to add as well. Excellent stuff.

Being a survivor of the 60's I hear so much of the greats in the Lonely Boys style. What a great recipe, A little Doobies, a dash of Santana and a sprinkle of those amazing Allman twin leads, one can't help but feel like you've been served up a 5 course meal. And of course, the cherry on top is their Texican style.

I recently saw them in concert and they just blew me away! Listening to this CD just brings back the power of talent I discovered at their concert.I thought Heaven was great but hadn't listened to their other tracks and every song on this CD is really high caliber. They are true musicans. I can't believe how talented they are at this age. Track 8 Onda is my favorite! It moves me and reminds me of past, present and future. Past greats SRV,Santana, their present greatness & their wonderful future to come!

Awesome music! My sister-in-law, a native Texan, turned me on to Los Lonely Boys a couple of years ago, and I haven't missed an album since. They have such a unique sound with a blues, Tex-mex, rock 'n roll mix that sets them apart from the crowd. I here the next Eric Clapton, Chet Atkins, Jimi Hendrix kind of talent coming from Henry Garza. And Ringo and JoJo can hold their own with many musicians playing much longer. I hope to be listening to Los Lonely Boys for many years to come!

Although I'm sure I'm not part of the target market for this album (over 50!)I absolutely LOVE this album. My son bought this for me a couple of Christmases ago, and as another reviewer mentioned, I listened to the whole CD without skipping any tracks and fell in love with the sound.
Both instumental and vocal harmonies are fabulous; no one voice or instrument overpowers another. If you enjoy good, harmonious guitar and vocals, you should listen to this CD. If you have a soul, you'll be hooked from the first note.

The self-titled debut album from Texas trio Los Lonely Boys tries--and mostly succeeds--in being everything to everyone. Garza brothers Henry, Jojo, and Ringo try their hand at classic-rock grooves, Tex-Mex, bilingual pop, and traditional harmonies with deliciously ear-pleasing results. The album is perfectly suited to Top 40, Spanish and adult-contemporary radio--all at the same time. At times tracks such as "Onda" and "Dime Mi Amor" recall 1970s-era Santana, but the Boys are at their best on "Heaven," the feel-good first single, and "La Contestacion," a yearning ballad matched by pleading instrumentation. As a bonus, this Special Edition includes Spanish versions of "Heaven" and "More Than Love," but the real highlight is a Southern-fried take on Johnny Cash's "I Walk the Line." That the boys manage to make the classic song their own is no small feat. There's also a DVD featuring thoughtful live performances and music videos that offer a glimpse of the Boys in action. --Joey Guerra

5 out of 5 stars Los Lonely Boys.......2007-05-14

I heard one of the songs by chance and decided to buy the CD. I really enjoy all of it.

4 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2005-07-29

Very intertaining. I bought it for the Heaven track, but enjoyed the whole thing.

5 out of 5 stars WOW!.......2005-05-21

This CD was the surprise of the last decade. I caught only a few bars of "I Walk the Line," on a television commercial. I thought it was a fresh sound so I bought the CD. Wow! No, I mean wow-wow-wow. This band is tight like only brothers could be. There is no awkward phrasing or uncomfortable moments that are always apparent between rock stars. They are in and out of each other's personal space without so much as a deep breath. They are natural together. Their harmony is three voices from one, and one voice from three. Each brother is an outstanding musician in his own right.
The Garza brothers call it "Texican Rock n Roll." Thanks for that. I would be hard pressed to name their style. I hear Eagles, Santana, Ottmar Leibert, Stevie Ray. They are Country, R &B, Jazz, Blues, Ranchero, Romantica and more. Every time I listen I hear something new. JoJo's bass sounds like lead, Ringo's drums while not loud or overbearing are complex and sound big and full.. Henry, well Henry. Here is where I venture to say that at 25 years old, If not now, Henry Garza is well on his way to being the best guitarist around. He doesn't play guitar, he dances with it, and oh what a dancer.
Someone mentioned that "Hollywood" is addicting. I found every single song addicting, but I still hold out my favorite as "Crazy Dream" because of the jazz changeup. It's sooo awesome. LLB is coming to Spokane and I can't wait. Until then I'll continue playing this CD over and over again.

5 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece. .......2005-04-12

Los Lonely Boys provide a glimmer of hope with their debut album, a glimmer of hope that modern music is not all that bad and even today great bands can still appear and knock your senses of course to somewhere else where everything is dominated by pure emotion. "Los Lonely Boys" is a masterful mix of flavors and notes, it is both a throwback to the 70's grooves bands like Santana perfected and a jolt into the future for what can be called Chicano rock. The album is filled with delicious winks at Richie Valens, Johnny Cash, Santana and many, many others. One of the pleasing things you realize while listening to this album is that this is a band that knows and has studied the classics, bands like Los Lonely Boys and Jet have recently come under fire because they sound a lot like their legendary heroes, I still do understand what the problem is. People complain that a lot of new rock sounds too simple, distorted and dumb, and then they complain that other new bands soo what? Too good? "Los Lonely Boys" is a beautiful album filled with wonderous melodies, consider "Heaven," a wonderful song of hope and redemption with indeed heavenly guitar licks, a dreamy atmosphere and uplifting spirit. "Crazy Dreams" is pure classic rock with an almost blues edge running through while "Señorita" has that wicked, feverish vibe Santana created in songs like "Black Magic Woman" where the main character just had to fall in love with some witchy babe who sounds like she walked out of hell. "Hollywood" is cool and breezy while "More Than Love" doesn't even belong in this era, this is a stylish, excellent ballad that would do Richie Valens justice. It is no wonder that Los Lonely Boys have been opening for Carlos Santana, I have already mentioned the name a few times, in the album the influence is most present in "Onda," a scorching jammer that exhilarates and leaves you admiring just how well the Garza brothers can play. For those who do not already own the album this new Special Edition is THE ONE to get. The extra material is not added in vain. The Garza brothers come from Texas and so it is no surprise that they tip their hats to the great Johnny Cash with a roaring cover of "I Walk The Line" where the guitar and vocals fly in exhilarating blues/country ecstacy and the Spanish version of "Heaven" is just as moving as the original. The extra DVD has the band's music videos and some interesting acoustic renditions where the band members share fascinating stories about the birth of each tune. "Los Lonely Boys" is a powerhouse debut, a masterpiece of raw rock n' roll and feeling. If like MUSIC, go check it out.

5 out of 5 stars The Texican Treo.......2005-03-18

If you are into truely incredible guitar riff's with a danceable Latin undertone, look no further. The musical stylings of Los Lonely Boys have all the things I like about Stevie Ray, Jonny Lang and Kenny Wayne, while keeping an upbeat rhythum. For a real treat, put on a good set of headphones and press play. You'll be amazed by the quality of the recording (You can actually hear the amp crackle in the beginning of "Onda"). Before you know it, you'll be jumping off the couch with your lighter in hand setting the ceiling fan on fire until you realize you're not at a concert. OK, maybe that was just me, but... Top it off with the videos and even an acoustic set that I've never heard anywhere else and you truely have a bargain! I dare you to try not to sing along or tap your toes through this album! Oh, word to the wise...don't put the DVD on at your next party unless you want all your friends parking on your couch, staring in rapt facination.

3 out of 5 stars Great band; wish the audio quality was better........2007-02-01

I love the Los Lonely Boys; their studio albums leave the listener wanting longer guitar solos and further explorations of the musical themes they create. So, Los Lonely Boys live must be a real treat; unfortunately this album doesn't have the dynamic range I would have expected and I found myself straining to listen to the complexities of the songs.

I've heard other live albums done at the Fillmore that were recorded better than this one, so my expectations were pretty high. Might try other Los Lonely Boys titles and come back to this one only if you're trying to have all their titles.

2 out of 5 stars Bland Live Album.......2006-11-03

Yes, I know, when a band plays the Fillmore it should go down as magic in music history. And, having seen the LLB several times live in Concert in the past couple years I have seen some awesome musicianship and incredible live playing. Unfortunately this album seems to sterilize their sound and spontanaeity and loses the great feeling I've seen from them live. Maybe they were nervous about recording and wanted it to be perfect? WHatever the issue, it does not come across well for me. Either my expectations were too high or something, but I took this CD back and was greatly dissapointed. I expect someday that they will release a true live rocker someday that really captures their awesome live sound, but this ain't it.

5 out of 5 stars Doesn't Disappoint.......2005-09-24

It's difficult putting Los Lonely Boys into a musical category and this CD highlights that. They take you from Santana, Los Lobos to Stevie Ray & Richie Valens. This live CD has a tight sound with incredible contributions both instrumentally and vocally. They hit those harmonies that only genetics can seem to master. You definately don't have to be a Lonely Boys fan to appreciate the music, but be warned you will be a fan after listening. This trio of brothers is going somewhere - get the CD and enjoy the ride.

This was my first LLB cd, and the sound on all the songs is amazing, buy this cd!

I was extremely disappointed with this CD. It was not the high quality performance that I have enjoyed with other Los Lonely Boys' recordings. In addition, the cuts weren't anything new or different - it was basically the same stuff - just with a different title.

Blues Revue Aug/Sep 2006 Issue 101 - Page 70
LOS LONELY BOYS Live at Blue Cat Blues Blue Cat Blues

(Excerpts) - ...this raw, honest, rollicking example of the band's early days should be heard by its many fans.

The arrangements aren't quite polished, the vocal harmonies so integral to the band's appeal are still being formed, and the songs (nine of them previously unreleased) are on the derivative side.

But the sound, taken directly from the board, is as crisp as the best concert recordings, and the brothers' chops and interplay are evident even at this nascent stage. Their greasy blues and Latin influences are fully formed, and though the SRV comparisons are hard to shake, there's no doubt these kids have the talent to go to the next level -- as they did, in fact, on their Grammy-nominated recording that appeared four years later.

The set's centerpiece, though not its most compelling track, is the 11-minute slow blues "Cotton Fields and Crossroads," which, despite being a little too reminiscent of Vaughan's cover of "Texas Flood," reveals deep-seated blues roots. Interestingly, the real star here is not Henry Garza's guitar (at this point, it's too imitative) but brother Ringo's sturdy drums, which propel the songs and keep the band from descending into blues cliches. The crackling, youthful energy of Los Lonely Boys on these early live recordings is reminiscent of old Johnny Winter: barely contained and ready for prime time." full review originally written by: HAL HOROWITZ - BLUES REVUE AUG/SEP 2006

STL Blues Review - by Peter "Cornbread" Cohen, CBP
"Hearing a live recording before the Los Lonely Boys "got big" is a treat for a fan. It ranks right up there with hearing the Beatles early pre-1964 recordings from the Cavern Club. Wow! 79 minutes of music to my ears!!! I like that every song is the opportunity to jam. My guess is the folks attending either of the above shows were instantly sucked into LLB fan base feeding on their raw energy, harmonizing vocals and musical abilities. The rest as they is history." - STLBluesometer 5 of 5

"Great Live CD! Better than the Fillmore Live CD... get this 1st over all other recording by this band." - J. R. Sategna, Amazon.com

"This is a great CD with great sound and songs. This was recorded when the band was hungry for popularity and it sounds like it. Great vocals-great separation and great guitar... I would get this 1st over all over recordings by this band- the three brothers rock!" - 4 Stars

"Los Lonely Boys Rock!" - Kimmy K, Amazon.com
"Awesome CD. The right mix of rock and blues. It reaches out to those who have yet to discover the talent of this young group. As for the rest of us, the "Live at Blue Cat Blues" CD is a great addition to our LLB library." - 5 Stars

"Pure Raw Energy!" - Lakota Harden, Amazon.com
"This CD recorded live in a small club setting displays the raw energy of Henry Garza's guitar playing. Their original songs are smooth and pure. Their rock n roll /Latin roots in a blues blend brings out a venerability that takes us deeper into the magic of what guitar playing does to your soul. These boys can sing, all three of them, with passion. Their orchestrated bass work, lead guitar, drumbeats and powerful vocals show that they've been playing wholeheartedly, pouring themselves into these instruments, like a sacred agreement was made when they first picked them up. In this era of overproduced tech tracks being sold everywhere, Los Lonely Boys (live at) Blue Cat Blues is a refreshing dip into their unique version of what they call "texican rock and roll". - 5 Stars

California's Los Lobos are the reigning kings of Tex-Mex/Rock Espanol. But this debut CD by the San Angelo, Texas band Los Lonely Boys might herald a changing of the guard. This is truly a band of brothers, led by guitarist/vocalist Henry Garza and his younger, bass-and-drum-playing siblings Jojo and Ringo (no kidding). Like a lot of groups, they had to move away to achieve fame--in their case, to Nashville. But after the release of their EP, Willie Nelson heard them, put them on tour as his opening act, and recorded them at his studio--and the rest may be history. Stylistically, the Garza brothers' bilingual songs about love and life combine Stevie Ray Vaughan blues, Santana-style guitar licks and R&B. Nelson helps out on guitar, with Reese Wynans on keyboards. Produced by Keb Mo and B.B. King producer John Porter, the music is honest, driving, and down home, especially on the organ-filled uptempo tracks "Senorita" and "Tell My Why." The stinging guitar solo on the Afro-anthemic "Onda" recalls the '70s grooves Santana built his chops on, while "The Answer" and "More than Love" are raw power ballads that show off this group's dynamism and diversity. --Eugene Holley, Jr.

2 out of 5 stars Taco Bell all the way..........2004-12-23

Somehow my previous review of this facile cd has dropped off the screen. Since I feel so strongly about it, I have rewritten this (its all just a joke doncha get it?)I glanced at the reviews and this album scored as high as it did because that is the state of pop music today. Welcome to the Britanny (sp)nation...Really this music lacks any depth, its a pale echo of Los Lobos and Santana...I like the lead guitarist tho, and I am told they are very good live...But the lyrics are banal and really most of the music is unoriginal...But you have to understand I also believe Garth Brooks and Shannia Twain (whatever her name is) were the logical extension of the Nashville country music machine and as the result of their mass popularity, we have disco pop computer non melodic airwave crap that is dominated by image and lack of substance..but you know to each their own..its all relative...my opinion is no better than anyone elses...So in my opinion, if you really wanna hear what this music should be all about listen to Los Lobos' cuts "One time, One night" or Don't Worry Baby"....or check out Lila Downs... Yeah, I love Willie Nelson too...but clearly everyone needs to make a buck...have at it...But if you could just return CDs because you don't like them...this would be at the top of my list.Taco Bell here we come..yes I'll have the fajita in the tortilla, extra velveta please...

I had lost hope. A music lover, I bought on average one new album every week, wishing that it will be the One.

A decade passed. Then Los Lonely Boys came along. WOW...

I am hooked, my wife is hooked, my kids too.

Thank you LLB.

They are the best thing that happened to rock n'roll since...I can't even remember.

I just hope that they will keep producing good music.

Keep bringing us joy.

5 out of 5 stars Smoking Hot!!!.......2004-06-25

I haven't heard music this good for a while. Every single track on this CD is awesome, which is rare for new bands these days. Vocals, guitar, bass, and percussions are solid, these guys can really play, unlike most of todays bands. I've travelled 5 straight hours listening to just this one CD and never got tired of it. In fact I'm listening to it right at this moment. Thinking of buying CD's, put this on your list. Can't wait till the next album comes out.

5 out of 5 stars Los Lonely Boys - The Real Deal.......2004-06-24

I just got back from seeing los lonely boys live for the first time (first, because I will definitely see them at every possble opportunity in the future.) Despite being relatively new and having little material to their catalogue, they put on quite an impressive show. MASSIVE jamming, I haven't seen amazing guitar like that since I saw the Crossroads Guitar Festival a few weeks ago, but that's another story. First of all, these guys are amazing, one day I'll be saying "yeah I saw the Los Lonely Boys for free in Dallas before they ever made it big." The first power trio was Cream, and these guys do great honor to the power trio tradition (underscore POWER!) The drums and bass are very good, but I am enthralled by the guitar capability of Henry Garza, this guy truly shreds the guitar with amazing capability. He was doing wah wah like I've only heard on Clapton albums and much more! At one point the bassist and lead guitarist were playing their instruments with one hand and changing chords by dropping or pulling the guitar up/down to change notes. They were showing off their musicianship and it was great. Henry even brought out a harmonica and was showing some mad skills. I bought the CD after seeing someone on audioscrobbler who liked the Jayhawks play their music alot so I checked them out at the music store and really enjoyed their CD and the single heaven. Now that I have seen them live, and heard Onda live with ~2 min. guitar solo intro to the song, I know that these guys will be around for a long time. One thing that always distinguished the really greats- Clapton, Santana, SRV for example- was the ability to create amazing catchy riffs and powerful songs that caught people's attention and drew them to the rest of their blues/rock output. "Heaven" is like that, it has an amazing riff that will draw people to an amazing musical talent. Quite refreshing!

5 out of 5 stars my all time favorite.......2004-06-23

i am not exaggerating - these guys are my all time favorite music. i am 45 years old and love all kinds of music. this is the best! i am in love with this amazingly talented band. every song..................this is it!

Before the Enhanced CD was released, Los Lonely Boys released the Real Emotions CD. Here in Austin, it was available as a rubber-banded two CD set - with the other being the CD single of 'HEAVEN'. 'REAL EMOTIONS' is on the ECD, as is 'LA CONTESTACION', but until the Australian X3 release, 'SUENO MAL' (Crazy Dream sung in Spanish) was only available on this CD, and 'COTTONFIELDS AND CROSSROADS', a signature LLB piece, is still only available on this CD (excepting, of course, boots and other demo / show CDs for LLB). Collectors who are completists need this one, and this performance of COTTONFIELDS is stunning. So, do attempt to acquire a copy of this CD!

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely Amazing!.......2006-04-07

I actually downloaded all of their songs and loved them so much, I had to buy the album. I got so fed up with artists putting out albums with 1 or 2 good songs, I started downloading instead. Let me tell you this is not one of those crappy cd's.

I love every song on this CD. These guys are some of the best musicians I have heard in a long time. The bonus songs and videos are nice also.

Contrary to what others said, I just ripped the whold CD with Windows Media Player without a hitch. I think the earlier versions might have had that nasty anti-copy DRM that Sony got sued over and removed. My copied songs play flawlessly on all of my mp3 players. I will also try to copy the music from the videos since there are some great acustic songs not available on other cd's.

Get it, you won't be disappointed!!

5 out of 5 stars WOW ~ These guys are GREAT!.......2005-10-20

I had to buy two of these CD's because I didn't like parting with mine long enough to let my hubby keep it in his truck! Now we both have it, and I just can't stop playing it.

We have been fans of LLB since we first heard them. (We have always been big fans of Stevie Ray Vaughan too, and these guys have the same kind of edge.) We saw LLB in concert on 6/29/05 when they opened up for Santana in St. Paul, MN, and we absolutely LOVED them! I found them to be even more entertaining than Santana (nothing against Santana at all, they were great too...I just loved the energy and sound of LLB).

I love all the songs on this CD, but for some reason song #6, More than Love, just keeps giving me the goosebumps. It's such a great song. My little girls (6 and 3) and my son (16) also enjoy listening to these guys jam!

1 out of 5 stars Could never review this item!!.......2005-08-13

I ordered one, that would not play - Amazon was great to replace it, but the replacement one wouldn't play either!! I am pretty sure that it would have gotten several stars had I got to listen to it!!

4 out of 5 stars Good..........2005-05-27

I just bought this item two days and boy it is worth my money! It doesn't playback on my discman but it said that constantly that it's not going to work with all cd audio players. It almost blew my ears when I played the DVD side for the disc. I am always interested in acquiring new music. I visited the website and it gave no specific lists of CD & DVD players that would work with the CD audio side. I think that I will wait to buy another DualDisc until they give a list of players that can read the DualDisc CD side.

1 out of 5 stars Inferior sound.......2005-05-15

The DVD side is Dolby 5.1 which is a highly compressed sound format to be used as a sound track for DVD video to fit it all on the disk. Put it in the computer and check the size of the files compared with the cd. How could it sound better? So much of the musical information is missing. If you are mainly using the DVD disk volume for audio then you can use DVD audio which uses more volume than any cd can take. Using volume as a guide Dolby 5.1 is inferior to DTS which is inferior to cd which is inferior to 96/24 PCM which is inferior to sacd which is inferior to DVD audio. So why is Sony pressing these inferior formats .... because they now realise it is a good idea to have video and surround mixes in their music disks. But they do not support DVD audio as it is in competition to their SACD format and so you are given an inferior sound format instead.

Anyone entranced by the Garzas' debut will be thrilled by this classy followup that tightens some of the loose ends bu! t displays additional confidence resulting from two years of nearly nonstop road work.

5 out of 5 stars Great DVD.......2007-04-15

If you can not see these guys live, buy this DVD. Henry Garza is absolutely stunning on guitar. He sounds almost as good as ME! Seriously, this is a great show. In real life, I have been a semi-pro guitar player for 35 years. This guy has the sounds, style of a well seasoned veteran. I highly recommend this.

4 out of 5 stars Good rock music.......2007-01-19

The Sacred cd is not as good as their first cd, but it's still definitely worth buying. There is no band like Los Lonely Boys and it's great to hear some good rock music from our Latino brothers.

5 out of 5 stars Time to Get Lonely Everybody!!!.......2006-07-19

This album is smokin' hot!
If you're not yet a Los Lonely Boys fan, after listening to this, their second studio album, you will be!! After the release of their first self-titled studio album, I was hooked as a HUGE fan, but still maintained that where the Boys really shined was in their live performances ("Los Lonely Boys Live at the Fillmore" cd and "Texican Style Live from Austin" dvd are available if ya can't get to see em live in concert). But after this studio album, I can't say that anymore! Live OR in the studio, these guys really rock (Texican Style, that is)!
This album adds a deeper dimension to LLB's work, with more of a Hispanic/Cojunto influence present that just makes ya want to get up and move to the music (swaying to the slow stuff and jumping to the fast, driving beat -- sometimes in the same song!), adding to various cuts a horn section (that, at first, having heard some songs live without the brass, I wasn't sure I liked, but now I'm in love with the fuller sound), a button acordian, harmonica, organ (Reese Wynans of Stevie Ray Vaughan's Double Trouble Band on some cuts), and guest vocals of Willie Nelson and the Boys' father, Enrique, Sr., on "Outlaws," a great country rock track paying tribute to all the outlaws in country rock, past, present, known and unknown.
Henry delivers driving, cutting lead guitar riffs, reminiscent of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Carlos Santana (yet even better in so many ways). Jo Jo's free-wheeling bass playing rivals or tops that of Jack Bruce (Cream's outstanding bass player), playing off of and against his brother's lead, and Ringo's talented drum-work provides the punch necessary to compete with his brother's guitars. Add to all of this, the brothers' beautifully blended harmonies (only possible from blood relations, i think) and you can't help but singing along!
Listen to the words of the songs here, whether the hard pumping rock or the slower "ballads" -- they deliver great messages, and actually say something positive about life, love, and family (a rarity in the popular music industry these days).
Any of the tracks here could be hit singles and it's hard to pick a favorite! (although the rebelious "My Way," the harmonic syncopation and guitar work of "Orale," the up-tempo Mexican sound of "Oye Mamacita," "Texican Style," and "Outlaws" are definite selections!) I definitely disagree with another of the reviews here which was somewhat critical of the last half of the album! "Texican Style," with its Cojunto beat, is a fun song and will definitely get you dancin'! "One More Day"'s message, with it's gorgeous harmonies, is inspiring, calling on us to show some more love for our fellow man while we still have time, while Henry's wah-wah on lead guitar is classic. The Mexican beat of "Memories," the toe-tapping melody of "My Loneliness," the catchy harmonica of "Home," and the melodic "Living My Life" with its great guitar riff, round out the perfect album.
The Boys already have one Grammy win and a second Grammy nomination under their belts with their first album and this second studio enterprise is sure to garner more awards.

This deluxe version includes a 22-minute dvd of fun-loving interviews and energy-packed acoustic performances of six of their new songs, some still unfinished as of its taping, showing the raw progression of their work to that of the final version of the cd. It also gives a glimpse of the Boys love of familia and the music and highlights their diversity and talent.
Buy it! You won't regret it!!!
