4 out of 5 stars Drifting From The Path.......2007-02-25

This is a good cd - not the rocker the first cd was and just a little less than their last. This cd shows the first sign of a rock ballad band in evolution.

The few rockers on the effort are more of a commercial vein that blowing away the crowd type - solid, satisfying but lacking real depth. The ballads are good.

The production on the cd is very good. The vocals and the instrumental backing are tight. Good cd to sit back on the deck with a good Merlot, the gang and a bonfire.

4 out of 5 stars Default returns with a vengeance.......2006-10-14

There is a unmistakable link between Default and Nickelback. Not only are the lead singers from both bands related (brothers), the sound of both bands are similar. The same style of song layout, the similar style of vocal direction. But what is different is that 'One Thing Remains' is a much stronger album, lyrically and sounding than Nickelback's latest album 'Photograph'. This is because of two reasons, 1. Default has toured with the likes of established bands like 3 Doors Down, Evanescence, Nickelback and Sum41. 2. Chad Kroeger has taken the role of producing this album fulltime, in Elocation he only produced a few songs here and there.

The album art cover is interesting and paints a theme to this album and upon listening to the songs herein, the theme is set throughout the range of upbeat, tempo driven beats. Make no mistake folks, this is a rock album with a slightly alternative tweak here and there. The album has 11 songs and is fairly short, many songs are in the mid 3 minute marks. But this does not detract from the overall success of this album.

The album starts with a new hit song from Default in 'All Is Forgiven' that talks about forgiveness and its part in our world. Another good song is 'It Only Hurts' that harks back to Default's earlier album hit song 'Deny'. It has a nice video clip btw. 'Count On Me' is another nice song that has a pure rock feel with a few riffs. Another soon to be hit song from this album is 'Hiding From The Sun' that has a fast pace and one can't help but get involved in this song.

Overall, the release will please all Default fans and Nickelback fans. This album is lyrically brilliant, produced excellently and a logical successor to Nickelback when they leave the rock scene. Look forward to 2007 being another bumper year for Default.

4 out of 5 stars Default shakes off their sophomore slump..........2006-07-20

"One Thing Remains" is a solid return after last year's disappointing "Elocation" which lacked both flow and good song writing. Luckily, Default return with a very solid third effort. The song writing has improved greatly and they do a much better job of concentrating on the group's strong points: churning out hard rocking yet melodic tunes. These guys are often and unfairly compared to Nickleback. Default writes better tunes yet don't get the recognition of Nickleback.

A few years ago a friend of mine said that he liked Default and I thought, "Dan always comes up with obscure bands that don't do much for me", so I just blew it off. All of a sudden I starting hearing some of Default's songs on the radio and decided to buy this one and boy am I ecstatic that I did. Although "Count On Me" is the song that gets radio play from this CD, "All is Forgiven" is killer track. I just sat down and started listening to the CD several times so that I did not jump to any quick conclusions. This is probably one of my favorite alternative-rock CDs (also band). It reminds me of Nickelback, Staind, and Pearl Jam. That being said, they are a sound on their own but have influences from those other bands. Check out "Get Out Of This Alive", "Found My Way Out", "The Memory Will Never Die" and "It Only Hurts". I can't say enough about all the songs on this CD. "One Thing Remains" and "Beautiful Flower" are also rockin' tunes. Believe me, you won't be disappointed if you buy this CD.

4 out of 5 stars Default : One Thing Remains.......2006-03-19

I really enjoyed this CD. It doesn't have the radio play power that their first album did but it's very good. In fact, I enjoyed this CD more than the first one (and of course they are both better than Ecolocation). Count On Me is good, everyone needs to start calling in to the radio stations and getting that played.
I saw these guys in concert with Nickelback and Trapt. They blew Trapt away. I really started liking them after that concert because they put a lot of energy out on stage and they are just a fun band to watch.
I think Default has yet to hit their peek. The lead singer has a great voice. One thing Default does need to do is change their sound up a little. Most of the songs are very similar and they are all hard. Obviously that is Default's comfort zone but it wouldn't hurt them at all to come up with a couple of slower, radio friendly songs, so they can really put themselves on the map. However, they definitely need to stick with the hard rock as well so their "superfans" won't call them sellouts. This is a very strong effort by Default and I can't wait to hear from them again.
