Though Amos Lee's music is frequently described as a fusion of folk and soul, such an equation fails to reflect the singular artistry of this impressive debut. Like labelmate Norah Jones (who guests on two cuts), the Philadelphia singer-songwriter recognizes the power of simplicity, distilling an emotional essence that cuts across categories. The opening of his "Seen It All Before" echoes Bob Dylan's "Knockin' on Heaven's Door"; the stunning "Arms of a Woman" channels Otis Redding's "I've Got Dreams to Remember"; "Give It Up" cuts a classic Bill Withers groove; "Black River" has the sound of an age-old spiritual; and the closing "All My Friends" follows Van Morrison into the mystic. Throughout the song cycle, the bare-bones arrangements behind Lee's vocal flutter reinforce an organic unity that transcends genre. For all of the debts he owes to the music of the 1960s and '70s, the results sound timeless rather than retro. In his cautionary "Soul Suckers," Lee sings that "nothing is more powerful than beauty in a wicked world"--and proceeds to prove it. --Don McLeese

Born to be mild? Amos Lee's sophomore effort for Blue Note follows firmly in the gentle guitar strums of his well-received 2005 debut and opening slots for Norah Jones and Bob Dylan. Little has changed the second time around, which will come as a relief to those enthralled by his first release. He remains a sensitive sort, mixing his insightful, reflective lyrics with lovely, unforced melodies played by backing musicians that stay on low boil. These tunes go down as smoothly as hot chocolate on a cold day, yet Lee brings an unassuming sincerity to the proceedings with his cozy, amiable voice. Comparisons to Bill Withers and James Taylor are accurate if inevitable, but when the gospel organ quivers into "Skipping Stone," it's clear Lee isn't stuck in a folk-pop rut.

Lee's approach is similar to the way Keb' Mo' treats the blues--he injects his cushy personality into an established genre, writes good if somewhat casual songs, and doesn't push the envelope too far. The final third of the album is perhaps too mellow, and a few midtempo tracks could have perked things up. But adult-contemporary fans looking for dependable Sunday morning music will welcome Supply and Demand as a quality follow-up brimming with subtle soul, style, and sophistication. --Hal Horowitz

i am a big fan! i could never be disappointed by his music! great album!

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous follow-up CD.......2007-07-09

This CD is one I cannot stop listening to. This young man offers a variety of styles, moods, and tones -- all done with seeming ease and fluidity. His lyrics are meaniningful, the melodies catchy, and the arrangements effective. I count this CD among my very favorites.

5 out of 5 stars fresh awareness.......2007-06-28

I enjoyed Amos Lee's debut album, but I have to say that Supply and Demand is a breath of fresh air. I love the versatility in that it seems to fit whatever mood I'm in at any point on any given day with the result being a more relaxed and chilled out me. My particular favorite is Southern Girl, which leaves you longing for a glass of iced tea, a warm evening, and someone to dance with. You will not be dissappointed in Supply and Demand.

I love this CD!!!Keep it playing in my car all the time. I would recommend it to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars A great album..........2007-05-19

This is Amos Lee's second album, and it's really great. He reflects upon many different subjects on this album such as love, break ups, war, and life itself. On "Supply and Demand", Amos talks about needing a plan to find a better way to live. "Freedom" looks at war, and fights, and the idea that "Everything is a threat" in today's world. "Careless" talks of two men fighting over a woman.... And then both losing her.
This is a lively, beautiful album.

4 out of 5 stars "The Voice", and great songwriting!.......2007-04-26

I saw Amos Lee on PBS's Austin City Limits the other night, and was very impressed by his singing and songwriting abilities. His band is great as well. The songs on this cd are really good, and if you like to "discover" new artists like I do, this young guy deserves your support. I have trouble categorizing an artist's music, I just know good/not good. This one is for sure in the good column. Beyond that, I liked that he seemed like a decent person and was most gracious to the live audience.

5 out of 5 stars Amos Lee.......2007-03-24

Absolutely the best CD I have every purchased. He is great and the best keep secret in the industry. Definitely a rising star. I tell all my friends about him. You have to try to believe- very different from most artists- not mainstream just different.

              5 out of 5 stars Music to De-Stress By.......2006-11-03

My first introduction to Amos Lee was when my sweetheart and I first fell for each other; he made a mix CD of songs that made him think of me and one of the songs on it was "Arms of A Woman." I knew within 10 seconds that Amos is going to be bestowed a Kennedy Center Honor some 35 years from now. He is so talented! A couple of months later, I saw Amos and John Prine on "Austin City Limits", as the other reviewer did. WOW. I highly recommend John Prine's "Fair and Square").

This CD is always with me; it completely relaxes me. I had a stressful day at work today, where I barely could remember my name I had so much going on. So I decided to take a time out -- I powered up my iPod and listened to this album and after 10 minutes I felt so much better.

This album is great to listen to on a Sunday afternoon in autumn, ideally with a fire in the fireplace, a sweetie to cuddle with and a faithful labrador resting his head on your feet (most likely snoring, as he'll be relaxd by this CD as well) as you read a great book. This album equals a glass of burgundy red, and I agree with the reviewer who said this is a "No Driving" CD!

4 out of 5 stars amos lee is my new fiancee.......2005-08-02

I fell in love with Amos Lee after seeing him on tv. I just got the album and I can't stop listening to it. His voice is beautiful and his lyrics are inspiring. His style reminds me of John Mayer crossed with John Legend. A couple of the songs are on the corny side, and personally I prefer the soulful side to the folk side. But aside from that this guy is amazing all around. You can really feel his soul come out in this album. Can't wait for the next one!!!!

              5 out of 5 stars Wonderful.......2005-06-11

I think Amos has a great voice and I can listen to him all day. The first time I heard him I was totally enchanted. It is the kind of new music I always long to discover. It's so simple but so beautiful at the same time.I just really love his style, it's his own, just wonderful.

In a music culture where bands dominate, Ben Lee is the youngest singer/songwriter to make an impression on Australian music. Even before his solo career, in his early teens, Lee came to attention as a member of Sydney band Noise Addict. Never one to sit still, Bens many talents include duets with Kylie Minogue; writing key songs for Evan Dandos 2003 album, Baby Im Bored; a collaboration with Ben Kweller and Ben Folds under the name The Bens which begat both live shows and a stunning 4-song E.P.; establishing his own label imprint, Ten Fingers, for not only his own projects but work by others such as Montreals beloved pop combo Pony Up!; and, in 2003, Ben made his feature film debut in the title role of Placid Lake in the Australian comedy, The Rage In Placid Lake, alongside Rose Byrne and Miranda Richardson.
