Album Description
Princess Superstar's fifth album My Machine is a 25 track, nearly 80-minute concept album. Princess presents a vision of the future in order to critique the present and reinvents herself as a sassy and smart anti-hero. In a world where stars are manufactured and not born she questions where the relationship between art and commerce is headed and attacks the current "Extreme Makeover" culture that turns people into imitations of a nonexistent ideal by promising to make them better versions of themselves, a theme she explores in "Perfect," the first video from the album. At times crazy and hilarious, hideous and alluring, deranged and compelling, she has mapped out an alternate universe on which to provoke and entertain.
Recorded over the past three years in Costa Rica, London, New York, Brazil, New Jersey, Mexico, and Berlin, this is Princess' most ambitious work to date. The album was executive produced by her and the legendary Arthur Baker and also features production work from Jacques Lu Cont, Junior Sanchez, Armand Van Helden, and Todd Terry. She takes her cut'n'paste aesthetic to a new level as she effortlessly switches from the straight up hip-hop of "Famous" to the power punk of "I Like It A Lot" to the sinister electro of "My Machine" to the moody rock of "Artery" and her signature comedic style on "Quitting Smoking Song."
This should come as no surprise from a woman who, while working on this album, found the time to be a coach on MTV's hit show "Made,", join Mensa, tour the world with her 4 turntable act "DJs Are Not Rockstars", have a weekly radio show on London's Kiss FM, and be profiled in everything from the New York Times' Style Section to Crain's Business Magazine! NYC's rhyming juggernaut is back with a love letter to independence, guaranteed to make brains and dance floors more active than they've been in a long time.
Customer Reviews:
STRATOSPHERIC.......2007-04-24
Can't find much to move you on the present comatose music scene? Princess Superstar works on a stratospheric level no one else can touch (leaving aside Faithless).
Don't be put off by comparisons with Gwen Sfefani or Christina Aguilera.
This is no rambling r'n'b. The Princess is pure gutsy hiphop.
At least she was. But My Machine clashes hiphop head on with dance beats par excellence. Not since the great days of Blondie, T'Pau or The Avalanches has pop-dance had such an exhilarating outing. But it still works as intelligent fireside company.
The last album Princess Superstar Is is in the top ten greatest pop albums ever, its subtlety and class outstripping everything else around. Only an artist of exceptional talent could follow up that successfully but Concetta has walked it.
At first listen the ambition has been scaled down. This album might be designed for fun. But after a few encounters the shear quality, invention, production finesse and verbal prowess comes shining through.
Only complaint is the bit pretentious concept. This leads to a few lesser tracks at the start but with 25 on offer there is plenty left that is pure gold.
Look out for the great contributions from Ashley Stevens. A progeny?
Refreshing!.......2006-12-21
You cannot go into this album with anything but an open mind. You also cannot go into this album expecting a listen that could accompany any sort of mentally-involved task. This album requires you to sit and listen. It requires you to pay attention. And it requires you to stop being so critical and just have fun.
As the initial review states, this is a concept album. A man comes from the future to explain to us about a tale a child is telling in her "speaking" class (the people of the future have no tongues, and must go to class to learn to speak without using telepathy) about her great-great-great-great x 50 grandmother, the Superstar. The Superstar was a woman who was tired of being nominally famous, so she froze her consciousness in 2005 after a super-MRI scan to awaken at a time in which she could take advantage of cloning to make an army of Duplicants, making her the ONLY celebrity. My Machine as an album is like a story written on paper, so I won't give away the ending.
Musically speaking, the production and rhymes are tight. This woman has skill! She tackles multiple roles on the album with ease, and she even makes "confronting herself" sound normal, like it could happen. Throughout my listen, I was impressed and eager to hear more. I think you will be too.
To mention any specific tracks is doing you, the listener, a disservice. You don't read chapters out of a book first before reading the book as a whole, and Princess Superstar's album is much the same. Enjoy!
Hark! The Princess doth make malodorous stew. .......2006-05-10
In releasing a concept album set in the future, you have to give Princess Superstar credit for her ambition. And she might be the first rapper to actually say
"Mazel Tov." No matter how you boil it down though, she's still a grown woman talking about her "coochie." ("Coochie Coo")
"Initially and "Perfect" could've been produced by Giorgio Moroder, and sound like disco anthems from 1978. But everything else is almost as torturous as listening to the President speak. (I said almost)
"Famous" has incredibly grating child-like voices yelling, "I want to be famous!" On "On Top Bubble," she brags that she's "unstoppable," "undroppable," and even "On Top bubble." I did not know that.
"Quitting Smoking Song" is so silly, you expect the Tim Burton Ooompa Loompa's to come out dancing dressed like Amish people.
At one point, she says, "It sounds like s#@t!" That about sums it up.
Just got this CD for Xmas...AWESOME!!.......2005-12-28
I just got this as a christmas gift form a hipster friend of mine...you know goes to the casbah a lot and worshipper of pitchforkmedia.com...she knows i'm into alternative rap so she got me this. my current favorites are anticon members passage and why? but you know what, EVERYONE has got to check out PRINCESS SUPERSTAR. She is SOO DOPE!! Cuz she's got all this flava right from the start with "I like it a lot" and it's just infectious throughout the CD. I mean later on when I found out that Arthur Baker oversaw the whole thing I realized why it was so tite. SO DEFINITELY CHECK OUT THIS CD. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT! PEACE~~~
Crude Rhymes for the Synth pop generation.......2005-10-29
This album is more of an epic tale with 26 songs that move through an assortment of contemporary topics mostly dealing with pop consumerism and the commodification of the human. This being my first introduction to Princess Superstar i was amazed by her roots and where they have taken her since. My favorite track is "Coochie Coo" because in combines a melodic sense with fun rhymes that allude to our dirtier sides. Dirty is deffintely my thing, and there is a lot of that here. And i mean that in the sense that there is someone just saying the things that are on everyone's minds and applying it to themes and textures that bring them to life. Overall this is a great album and can offer different reads on every listen. Pick it up and offer up your comments as i would like to see what other fans have to say.

Customer Reviews:
Har Mar is My Superstar!.......2007-05-22
So I read about Har Mar from an interview
with Drew Barrymore, who I love. She raved about it, so I thought I should check it out. It is by far one of the best albums I have ever heard. Completely feel good all around. Everyone needs this in their collection. Buy it, I promise you'll love it!
5 Star Superstar!.......2007-04-20
He thinks he's Robbie Williams, he looks like your dad. The mesh tank top over the beer gut, the tight leather pants and the bald head make an, er ... exotic look indeed. If it were not for the fact that this guy knows how to take the piss. Lyrically funny and sexy, musically punchy and very clever this is a knockout album. Previous Har Mar cds have failed to sizzle but on The Handler he got it exactly right. So many tracks stand out that is is no use listing them, from start to finish this is a great album, full of great melodies and hooks. Eveytime I put this on people ask who it is. One of the finest albums of the year. Check it out.
Funk Soul Brother.......2006-03-09
Allow me to cut to the chase: This is a truly great album. I bought the previous two Har Mar CDs on the strength of this. OK, so maybe this guy has a healthy, often tongue-in-cheek sense of humor, but the arrangements, production, songwriting and general feel-good vibes make this a serious piece of work. In other words, Har Mar's not mocking the music, he's having a great time ... and so will you! Think of Prince at his best (pre-Batman), add a touch of Stevie Wonder (Track 5 especially), and a pinch of 70's disco energy, and you've got this sexy beast of an album. Don't buy this if you dig the likes of Craig David, but if you count "Lovesexy," "Sign of the Times," and "Parade," (Prince) or "Innervisions," and "Talking Book," (Stevie Wonder) in your top 100 albums then you're guaranteed to enjoy this album. It's no coincidence that Michael Bland -- Prince's New Power Generation drummer -- lended his awesome drumming skills to his CD. Har Mar is the real deal, but he's clearly more interested in making you dance than defending his authenticity to th ever-vocal "haters."
A tarnished, tainted piece of old trash (and that's an overstatement).......2006-03-06
Har Mar Superstar's HANDLER is quite possibly the worst studio album that has achieved wide-spread release that I have ever heard. Not only does the music sound like something composed by a highly-functioning-autistic, but the vocals sound like something from the lungs of a drunken hobo (and that's a VAST overstatement). I am so disgusted by this revolting piece of vile garbage that simply thinking of this music makes me want to hurl the Chinese food I scarfed down for lunch. There are a lot of crappy albums out there (Hawthorne Height's THE SILENCE IN BLACK IN WHITE, Mannheim Steamroller's CHRISTMAS EXTRODINAIRE, any recording by the metal band Metallica), but HANDLER is absurdly terrible and worse than any album ever recorded.
The first time I ever questioned God's very existence was after hearing HANDLER for the very first time. My brother snagged it from a local radio station he occasionally volunteered at and told me about how funny it is. I expected comedy, not excruciatingly horrendous garbage. The album is so bad that when I go into a music store, I am terrified by the possibility of coming across it accidentally (I can often be found avoiding the "H" section altogether). The reason I questioned God was that I didn't think God could create someone awful enough to record an album like HANDLER.
This album may have received two stars had it not been for the completely repulsive track "Back The Camel Up," where his sexual metaphors are about as witty as any rejected, three-legged camel could conjure. One may go as far to say that this album is horrifying and should never, ever be given to anyone who has ever had any suicidal thoughts, because this album would send them over the deep end and possibly into a filled bathtub face down or off a thousand-foot cliff. If possible, I would give this album a negative score, but that's impossible, so the worst I can possibly rate it is 1 star, and that is what it deserves. It's not worthy of one star. It's not worth any stars.
Bravado & Beats.......2005-07-09
These intoxicating tunes from the up-and-coming "Superstar" have been the only sounds blaring out of my car stereo for the past two months. Recorded by an excellent new producer -- John "Strawberry" Fields -- this album is incredible. It combines lewd lyrics, resembling those of gangster rappers and R. Kelly, with a smooth delivery that's one part Stevie Wonder and one part Jamiroquai. Take those two elements and add the atypical, non-pop star "look" of Har Mar -- a fat, white, almost insane-looking man with hair going anywhere it wants, an outfit that fits (spandex pants and tighty-whities), and an abundance of confidence -- and you have yourself a musical Molotov cocktail.
With friends like Ben Stiller, Owen Willson, Karen O, and many others, his personality must be as funny and engaging as it comes off on this record. While most R&B albums get stuck in a stylistic rut, "The Handler" offers a lot of diversity. Admittedly, rump-shaking tracks like "DUI" and "Transit" are what Har Mar does best. And there are quite a few upbeat dance numbers here, including "Cut Me Up" with the aforementioned Karen O. He also throws in an amazing cover of Gilbert O'Sullivan's classic "Alone Again (Naturally)" which ends things on a poignant note. Every song on the album is filled with hooks and perfectly produced. If this guy isn't a household name in a few years, I'll be pretty sad.
Buy "The Handler," and you'll understand what I'm talking about.

Princess Superstar Entering Into Legendary Status.......2005-09-03
Princess Superstar has made a definite positive impact on the Hip-Hop & Rap community in a massive underground way that only she could. She is the first to snatch the almighty "First White Female Rap Artist" due to her amazing intellengence of life in New York and Street Life Venues. Witty, Sharp, Fun, Comical, Serious, & Fast Flows are really the only way to best describe her. Put the Princess in a Rock venue and all will applaud as well as any Hip-Hop venue cause she is no stranger to ways of a rock artist, as she continued through out the mid to late 90's she tried out many a different styles with Rock, Hip-Hop, Rap, Dance, Electro and just when you'd think she had found her nitch in the sand, she goes on to become a mighty turntablist Dj who not only uses her own material to get the vibe going but with friends like Moby along side her, the beats just grew more intense, spring up a really wicked name to it saying "Dj's Are Not Rockstars". Now we enter into a remarkable period for the Princess, "My Machine" 2005 is looking into the future and with every style that she has known is put to the test, not only does she prove in more ways than 1 that she still has the gift of "Awesome" she now shows us that she is "Lengendary"
So final thought - Princess Superstar 2005 "My Machine"
Brilliant and Fun!.......2004-05-02
What can I say? The Princess' other albums were amazing, but this one is just one-of-a-kind. Not only are her lyrics brilliant and witty, but this LP is just filled with hooks and great beats. It makes all other rap seem boring and trite.
I heard that her new album should be coming out soon, and I can't wait!
P.S. As if her rhyming/songwriting skills weren't enough, she's also an extremely talented DJ!
Different & Funny.......2004-03-13
I like this cd of Princess , it has a lot of cool catchy songs with funny lyrics like "Bad babysitter" & "Keith N' Me" which are excellent,I wonder how come she didn't get more famous , I think she's at least good as eminem, in a more feminine rude version.
LOVE HER.......2004-01-16
BUY IT !
She is a super amazing artist, a fun and smash-up smart DJ , and a true D.I.Y. DIVA!
Rockin'.......2003-05-17
Sweet CD. The beats are good, most of the lyrics are good (if you like dirtiness). Didn't get the 5th star because some of the rhymes are a bit awkward.

Album Description
Full Title - Last Of The Great 20th Century Composers. In the year 2000 Last Of The Great 20th Century Composers was self-released on the infamous Princess Superstar's own label, the Corrupt Conglomerate. A fitting prelude to 2000s smash Princess Superstar IS, this classic features Princess' signature lascivious lyricism and off-kilter production alongside collaborations with music's brightest lights, from De La Soul alumni and hip-hop legend Prince Paul to former Fugee John Forte to The Blues Explosion's Jon Spencer. It burst on the scene with its slick, giddy egotism, assy-drenched brassyness and undeniably slamming beats. If the world got a taste of Princess Superstar from singles like 'Do It Like A Robot' and Disco D's 'F**k Me On The Dancefloor,' then Last Of The Great 20th Century Composers was what whet their appetite. 2003.

Princess Superstar Rules!.......2002-03-30
She is the most clever MC around--her lyrics are brilliant, her beats rule, and she is incredibly cool.
You gotta get this album... and get her newest disc "Is" as well. Every one of her tracks is a sonic journey into amazing hip-hop and electronica.
I can't believe she isn't a real superstar yet. I'm sure she will be soon enough.
Uhh...I wanted to like this but..........2002-01-12
I heard Princess Superstar on a track with (the ridiculosly funny) MC Paul Barman. I was very impressed with both her wordplay and her delivery. But, then I heard her own solo tracks. To spare the track-by-track rundown, I'll just say the album isn't very entertaining. I have as much respect for killer guest appearances as the next guy, but you have to be able to translate that into a dope album as well. I don't think it happened here. The lyrical content and some of the production earn 2 stars, but I'm saving those other 3 stars for when she becomes more than just a "one verse MC". And no, I will not give her extra props for being a white woman in a field dominanted by black men. :)

So final thought - Princess Superstar 2005 "My Machine"

not the best proincess superstara cd your can biuyt.......2001-06-06
...the music is not really funny. its like one of those in jokes that i guess i had to be there. adn the hip hop big beat is very minimal and puches really good for the club speakers but thats not why i like price paul i like his funny catchy micky mouse beats. and pricess superstar is doing a sassy bahamadia imitation that she doesnt quite have the skills to pull off. it sounds really weird. you might do better buying another princess superstar reord lieke peasches or brassy. raise your glasses, make your passes
Indeed Prince Paul meets with the greatest lady rapper!.......2000-08-29
Prince Paul is a genius and he meets up with the wonderful white lady rapper. She has much better skills than Tairrie B ever had in the old school days. I believe that this single is totally overlooked.
The song begins with the brilliant opening skit about PS trying to sell off or palm off her record to a kid with Santa. She gets busted but she points out the hypocritical nature of today's Christmas. Not too bad in the long run I guess. Prince Paul lovely melody for sampling and the scratching of her name is quite extraordinary.
Why not have PS with de La Soul now? They would need her for some odd humor and perhaps she can put MC Paul Barman back into his place... PS rock the house of Xmas!
