Having long since shed their image as hip-hop's clown princes, the Beastie Boys now bring what feels like their emeritus recording, a celebratory instrumental memoir of all of the influences (except punk) that brought them to their secure place among hip-hop's fickle elite. The party opens with the aptly titled "B for My Name," its plodding bounce staking claim to the mid-tempo path the album treads almost throughout. "14th St. Break" picks up the pace, especially in the auxiliary percussion breakdown, complete with rally whistle. Then, beginning with "Suco de Tangerina," the album drops into a deep groove cut from dub- and dancehall-tinged ostinati that carry through a full third of its tracks. Among these, "The Gala Event" suffers from a lack of developmental motion that characterizes many of these tracks, but highlights still abound. "Off the Grid," for example, departs from the otherwise unbreakable chill and rips the proceedings wide open, blooming again and again in a series of pulsing riffs that celebrate the very institution of the instrumental groove. More than 20 years since Licensed to Ill took a long, irreverent piss into the mainstream, it seems you can still fight for your right to party. --Jason Kirk

The Mix-Up is Beastie Boys' first-ever full album of all-new instrumental material. The follow-up to 2004's To The 5 Boroughs, The Mix-Up features Diamond, Horovitz and Yauch back on drums, guitar and bass, with able assistance from Keyboard Money Mark and percussionist Alfredo Ortiz, on 12 brand new wordless, sample-less, scratchless originals. Sure to please fans of the instrumental cuts from Check Your Head and Ill Communication and the cult hit compilation album made up largely of those tracks, The In Sound From Way Out!, The Mix-Up finds NYC's favorite sons drawing on one of their arsenal's primary strengths and pushing it into bold new directions.

We rated this album.... as part of a camp project at St. Ives Camp near New York City. We did a poll to choose everyone's favorite album of the summer.... and the winner .... is an album called + EURO CLUB HITS + which is on iTunes, Rhapsody, Napster, etc......it was a close race between many albums.... everyone in the camp (200+ kids!) is now going to vote again on Amazon & iTunes... and please add your vote also!! Thanks!

2 out of 5 stars Dreck.......2007-07-26

This ferkachte CD is barely worth the plastic it was printed on. How the Beastie Boys could have gone from the heights of Check Your Head and Ill Communication, and the ensuing instrumental mashup masterpiece The In Sound From Way Out, to this limp, soulless, grooveless piece of dreck is beyond me. Seriously, take it from one schmegege to another, you will not be kvelling when you listen to this.

4 out of 5 stars This isn't their first instrumental album.......2007-07-25

People keep comparing this to their hip-hop albums, but you can't compare it. It's a totally different type of music. I agree partially with an earlier review ; if you like MMW or Galactic(Stanton Moore) then this album might not measure up, but this funky acid jazz style is what MMW and S. Moore do best. It's not what the B.B. do best. I give them a ton of credit for going out of the box and doing other things. In 1996 the B.B. made an album called "The In Sound From Way Out". It was all instrumental and it was VERY good! When I first heard it, I didn't believe it was the B.B. So before you criticize, remember these are hip-hops artist who decided to actually pick-up instruments and play them. Not use synthesizers and samples. I think it's a really good cd. True, it doesn't measure up entirely to your MMW records, John Scofield, or Galactic, but it is a good addition to your funk collection.

1 out of 5 stars Pure Garbage.......2007-07-24

How can some artists always stay fresh with new sounds and others become washed-up? The only reason I give one star is because you can't give zero. This album makes for an expensive drink coaster.

No fresh sounds, nothing upbeat and very monotone. I guess when you have a reputation like Beastie Boys you can assume something good is going to be relesed. After 2 clunkers in a row that's no longer the case.

The name of the album should be called "Fill My Bank Account" since all they are doing is taking your money and retiring on it. These boys are a very long way from "Paul's Boutique" and "Check Your Head"...two masterpieces.

Zero stars!!!!!!!!!!

After the long wait, Mix doesn't disapoint. This album is filled with great production, great lyrics from Mix and his signature sick, rugged flow. This album is near classic and doesn't really have any weak tracks on it. A definite in any rap collection.

5 out of 5 stars One Of The Better Rap CDs.......2006-02-28

Most people think "Baby Got Back" is the best song on this album, but i'm under the inpression it's one of the worst. Most the other songs have great flow, potent lyrics that are either wise or hilarious, and aren't halfway as annoying. I honestly bought this album for the song "Lcokjaw", which is probably my favorite song on the album. But all in all, a great alubm. I beleive it was money well spent.

5 out of 5 stars Who can forget the #1 single in 1992- Baby Got Back.......2005-12-11

Back in 1992, Sir Mix-A-Lot topped the Hot 100 Singles chart with Baby Got Back and was on top of the rap singles chart. I never actually saw the video because of the controversy. Then again, the most controversial rap group in the 90s was without 2 Live Crew and the N.W.A. Now in 2005, it's hard to find a controversial rap artist unless you count Eminem. I'm sure he generated controversy for Stan.

Anyway, this one of the best rap albums from the 90s and I'm glad that I have original version. It's just too bad that I didn't get the cd.

An awesome album with two successful singles.

A two-hit wonder that deserved more recognition.

Chamillionaire! Man this guy goes hard, from slick freestyles to just jaw dropping rhymes that make you say "damn thats tight". I love chamillionaire's music ive been a fan of him since 99 and still to this day, i've listened to his music since we was just a youngin' comin up and now ive heard him mature in his game and really admire his work. If you aint heard of Chamillionaire then you MUST get this album its by far the BEST mixtape CD ive ever heard, if you doubt HOUSTON music and chopped and screwed music you WONT doubt this album trust me. Go out and get chamillionaires cd's, you wont be dissapointed, HOUSTON and TEXAS have a problem, we are putting our names on the map once in for all, its the TAKE OVER

5 out of 5 stars The Truth.......2005-11-07

I was a bit slow getting this mixtape due to not knowing how it'd be, but thanks to the reviews I read online and the constant 5 stars I've seen this album get, I ran to Best Buy to purchase the album. I have to tell you, this is by FAR one of the best albums/mixtapes I've ever heard. If you like an artist with a smooth flow, punchlines that will make you say "Damn he got at 'em" this album is definately for you. I've recommended it to a lot of cats, even Screwheads that don't have it yet. With over 60 songs in total between the 3 disk set, One standard album, a Chopped and Screwed version of the first album, and a Classic third album, it won't fall short of expectations. The -only- downside to this album is the constant skits throughout it. Some people like skits, and even though they are funny at times I'm the type of person that likes the material rather than the insults behind the scene. If you don't got it, get it.

5 out of 5 stars Rump shakin goodness.......2005-05-07

I like to dance and am very good at it. I know all the moves like the caterpillar, windmill and cabbage patch. I bought a New Kids on the Block how to dance video in Jr. high and learned the hottest moves. Cds to dance to do not get better than this. Can you start a CD with two stronger tracks than Informer and Ditty? By the end of these two tracks it's time to take a break and drink a zima with a cherry. I'm a man's man but how do you keep the energy after coming out of the box like that. Informer, say no mo daddy snow I gonna blay a licky boom boom now so say daddy ma snow i me gonna blame. That is deep and so true. He's only the best candian rapper with a jamaican accent ever. Throw that beat behind it and you're talking gold. Then Paperboy comes at you full force with the ditty. Back in I-City in the early 90s the boys were kicking it at the fieldhouse and when Ditty came on we had a planned dance that might as well have been a mating call because right away every girl in the club moved to our end of the building and wanted to buy us drinks. We picked hottays to take back to the dorms and turned it out into another party. We had this CD and we just kept the party going until John Knicely showed up and pooped on the floor. After that it smelled and we closed shop.

4 out of 5 stars Some of my favorite dance songs when I was in my 20's .......2005-03-18

This CD was released in 1994 and the songs are from the '91-'94 era. Back in those days, I was clubbing every weekend and enjoying many of these songs. Here is my track by track review:

1. Informer by Snow: Not something I ever remember dancing to at clubs, just remember it being all over the radio at the time and getting tired of hearing it.

2. Ditty by Paperboy: Same as Track 1, thankfully we get past these 2 tunes early and move on to the TRUE dance music.

3. Shoop by Salt n' Pepa: I love this song, however, the mix here is not the version I prefer.

4. More & More by Captain Hollywood Project: A great example of the euro-dance music to come out of Germany during this period. Not only a dance hit, but also went to #17 on the Billboard Hot 100.

5. I'm Gonna Get You by Bizarre Inc.: A fun and lively dance tune, and the mix between the previous track & this track is flawless.

6. The Key, The Secret by Urban Cookie Collective: Another lively, bouncy dance tune like Track 5. One of my favorites from my club days.

7. Give it Up by The Goodmen: Another great euro-dance tune that uses whistle blowing and drumline, which was very fashionable in dance music at the time.

8. Talkin About Love by BKS: I don't remember hearing this track "back in the day", but it is a good dance track none-the-less.

9. Supermodel by RuPaul: Gotta love Ru. He has had other good songs since this one, but none have been this fabulous.

10. No Limit by 2 Unlimited: Another sub-genre of dance music during this period, rave. My uptight cousin used to call this kind of music "communist music", but I loved bouncing up & down on the dance floor to this and 2 Unlimited's other hits.

11. Whoomp! There it Is by Tag Team: Ugh...the real dud of this CD.

12. Take me in Your Arms by Li'l Suzy: Another sub-genre, free-style. Free-style was winding down it's popularity and originality by this point, but a good song.

13. Happy by Legacy of Sound: Back to the bouncy, frantic sound heard on tracks 5 & 6. My #1 favorite track on this CD.

14. Forget me Nots by Ava Cherry: I don't remember hearing this remake of Patrice Rushen's classic at the clubs, and although it is good, it does not come near Patrice's excellent version.

15. Show me Love by Robin S: Diva vocals to blow you away. Went to #5 on the Billboard Hot 100.

16. Finally by CeCe Peniston: Another diva who had a string of hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including this one which also went to #5.

17. This is It by Dannii Minogue: Dannii never achieved the stateside success that her sister Kylie has, and this track explains why.

Yes, there are a few duds here and some songs that are just ok, but the awesome dance tracks ("Happy", "More & More", "I'm Gonna Get You", "The Key, The Secret", "Give it Up", "Show me Love", and "Finally") well make it worth buying.

5 out of 5 stars Classics from back in the day!.......2004-05-06

I still have lots of memories from many many years ago and this CD brings a lot of great memories of those days when dance music was at it's absolute best. "More and More" and "I'm Gonna Get You" are my dance anthems of my lifetime. A pity that dance music has almost completely collapsed ever since. :(((

5 out of 5 stars Excellent dance album!.......2004-04-15

This second entry in the awesome "Dance Mix USA" CD series is one of my favorites of them all. I can't say how it ranks with like the first, forth and sixth entries in the series but this second volume is just awesome to listen to and all of the songs still hold up well.

"Informer" by Snow is a sadly forgotten classic from the early 1990s and has a New Jack Swing and strong old school hip-hop rhythm and excellent melody, all of which are totally absent in today's rap music! I still enjoy this song a lot. "Ditty" by Paper Boy is a lot more urban and has excellent rhyming and great beats as well. Both of these songs were fun themes back in 1993 when they were popular as I was in a lot of tournaments around this time in my life and these songs hold a lot of memory for me. "Shoop" by Salt N Pepa is a risqué danceable hip-hop classic that was like the forerunner to what TLC would do very shortly afterwards. While not on the raunchy level of "Let's Talk About Sex", this song is indeed on the wild side if you ask me. "More and More" by Captain Hollywood is a dynamite classic. The song begins with electronic sound effects and a haunting ambient intro comes and then the song becomes a highly radiant techo-dance number with some macho rapping too. In a lot of ways, this was like the precursor to Real McCoy's "Another Night" that came in the mid to late 1990s as it has some of the dark undertones of that track. I love this song a lot. "I'm Gonna Get You" is another highly energetic and fun dance song with really excellent keyboards and frantic keyboard rhythm. "The Key The Secret" by Urban Cookie Collective is a somewhat strange dance track with few vocals and fun hip-hop rhythm. I'll continue this review later.

Who better to take the traditionally underground art of DJ mix tapes aboveground than Funkmaster Flex, New York City's mainstream hip-hop radio hero? This album is the quintessential hip-hop party album, ripe with ear candy. Talk back to call-and-response tracks from DJ Kool, Frankie Cutlass, and Doug E. Fresh. Remember when with classic hooks from Run DMC, Marley Marl, Special Ed, and the king of all mix-tape loops, Mark the 45 King. Bounce your head to drop-in freestyle raps from hip-hop's biggest East Coast names (Method Man, Erick Sermon, Q-Tip, and Lauryn Hill, among others). If you can stomach Flex's own persistent presence--he self-promotes on Mix Tape, Volume 1 almost as much as he does on his late-night radio show--you will appreciate this shrink-wrapped, extended party jam. --Todd Levin

4 out of 5 stars hip hop win.......2007-05-19

this is the best mix tape . non arguablee hip hop is safe and secure when presenting its mix tape . '60 minutes of funk' volume one funkmaster flex

1 out of 5 stars What a mess!.......2007-01-04

How do you tell the beginning and end of a song? What's the message? What are the lyrics? Who knows where the melody and harmony is, and what's left is drowned out by the rhythm. What's worse, many of the artists sound alike. Guys, shouting "Puerto Rico!" over and over isn't music.

I'll stick to Black Eyed Peas or Alicia Keys, thanks.

4 out of 5 stars Before Flex Went Corporate {4 Stars}.......2006-07-26

The reviewer below me doesn't seem to know as much about hip hop as he'd like to think. First of all, comparing Flex to JMJ is like comparing Kool Moe Dee to KRS One -- while they both might be good, there's really no contest. They came up in different ages anyway. Also, this album was released on Loud/RCA, not Def Jam

Anyway, back to the album. In actuality, it's 70 minutes of funk, but who's counting, right? It's a mixtape, so I guess what determines how good the album is are the songs chosen, the cuts and scratches, and the freestyles. All of which are tight on this joint. On top of that, you have interesting collaborations like Sadat X and Akinyele on "Loud Hangover" and the Fat Joe/Big Pun freestyles and Mobb Deep instrumentals.

My only beef with the album is the drop off toward the end. The Kaotic Styles freestyle is boring. Things just aren't as exciting or creative as the beginning or middle of the album, but that kind of thing is kept to a minimum. Outside of that, things move along nice and steady.

If you want a taste of Funkmaster Flex before he went corporate and started dropping the blinged out mixtapes, then check this joint. He's nice behind the wheels and this album is the perfect showcase for his skills. He'd go on to drop a few more in the series, but he'd never top this CD. I recommend grabbing this one while you still can.

Standout Tracks: Keith Murray & Redman Freestyle, Loud Hangover (My Favorite), Fugees Freestyle, Speech (KRS One Freestyle), Everyday & Everynight, and Give Up The Goods (Just Step)

5 out of 5 stars tha mixtape.......2003-09-11

5 out of 5 stars Much better than The Tunnel, this mixtape has good beats.......2001-03-10

Funkmaster Flex's first mix tape is much better than his later ones. The beats are great. Method Man, Redman, Fugees, Mobb Deep, you name it some of the biggest hip hop groups are featured on here. The beats on this album are excellent. This is definetly a must have for any fan of Flex or rap.

5 out of 5 stars OLD SCHOOL AT ITS BEST.......2007-01-29

This album is what rap SHOULD be all about. It's fun and bass heavy and just enjoyable to listen to. Sometimes yes, it does get a little cheesy, but that is a big part of the charm to this album. Think of the b@lls it takes to open up your debut CD with a song called "Buttermilk Biscuits" where you rap with an effect on your voice that makes you sound like a chipmunk. I give mix-a-lot a lot of credit for that and for always keeping a sense of humor in rap music which is definately lacking today. This album also used very inventive beats. The music for the song "swass" is very simple but also very unique and sounds very different than your average rap song of that time. It also inspired whoever it is to rip off the chorus line "don't you wish your boyfriend was swass like me?" just change the word "swass" to "hot" and you have yourself a hit. Anyway, bottom line is I think this is a timeless album that is very fun to listen to.

5 out of 5 stars Some of you Rooty-Poots wish that you could, be a Hip-Hop Soldier!.......2006-12-17

"Now I'm your big mall dropper, mud duck stuffer. Fila's on the bottom and adidas on the cover." Most everyone who grew up listening to Hip-Hop in the 80's and 90's recognizes those lines right away from the classic "Buttermilk Biscuits" and the legendary SWASS. Sir Mix-a-Lot is best remembered as the "Big Butts Guy", but he made some awesome records before and after Mack Daddy, and SWASS was one of them. The funny thing though is two of the most popular songs were by Kid Sensation, "Square Dance Rap" and of course, "Buttermilk Biscuits". I remember my dad buying this album when I was a kid,
and I loved it ever since. "Posse on Broadway", "SWASS", "Iron Man", and "Hip-Hop Soldier" are my favorites (including the two songs mentioned earlier). This album is mostly about braggin' and humor where Seminar, his next album, was more serious. If you like Mix, then buy this. If not, buy it anyway Rooty-Poot!!

Strip away the photo of Barbie as Britney wannabe on the cover and extend the track list with a few hard-rocking, boy-skewed songs, and what you're left with here is yet another installment of the irritating but phenomenally popular Kidz Bop series. Harshly put, Hit Mix is a knockoff. On it you will find an identical-sounding chorus of kids crooning slowed-down versions of top-10ers, the main difference being that the Rhino/Mattel offering is more amenable to listeners whose main objective is finding music they can march their dolls along to in mock fashion shows (or hold make-believe Ken, Barbie, and Midge concerts to, or stage all night boogie-fests for their anatomically incorrect heroes to). Bottom line: If your 4- to 8-year-old gets as much of a rise out of Jessica Simpson as she does her Barbie Townhouse, or if she's a kid who "bopz" shamelessly, her hopes, but probably not yours, have been answered with Hit Mix. --Tammy La Gorce

4 out of 5 stars For what it is, it's not bad.......2005-03-02

Like one other reviewer, I'm not sure what you guys were expecting. If you were expecting excellence, if you were expecting a CD that would be a favorite of yours, then that's your fault, not the CD producers' fault. This is a Barbie-themed item, so adults are obviously not the target market. Young girls are the audience for this CD. If you are not one of them, then you really don't have the right to speak on this. (And by the way, learn to spell, people. I can't possibly take you seriously when you use all lower-case and a gazillion exclamation points. If you want to spout venom, go do it on your chat boards somewhere else. We're looking for useful reviews here.)

There. Now, on to the review. My daughter is 4 and is already all-girl. She digs the "diva" stuff, everything that glitters, furry telephones and all that jazz. I encourage her to branch out to other things, like sports and science, but this is how she is; this is her "groove." So I acquiesce at times, like the day I bought this CD for her. Know what? She loves it.

Not to say that I am nuts about it, because I prefer Harry Connick Jr. and Sting and classic rock, and the local pop radio station is absolutely not on my car pre-sets. But I have heard so much worse. It's lots better than the Kidz Bop CD I bought a long time ago (and conveniently "lost" almost immediately afterward.) But again, I am not the target audience here; my daughter is.

This is a CD that, while it's not exactly my taste, I can bear playing for her enjoyment now and then without wanting to run myself through with the nearest sharp object. At times the back-up little-girl singers are off-key, and there are a couple songs I always fast-forward through, but for what it is, it's really not bad. If your daughter likes this kind of thing, she'll like this CD, and it's easier for adults to bear than the Kidz Bop tracks that I've heard.

    1 out of 5 stars Please.......2004-09-20

Barbie can't sing, come on all the songs sound so bad with that voice, atleast put the real voice so it would sound better.

3 out of 5 stars pleasant mix of pop.......2004-07-17

Reading the reviews submitted so far, I can only guess at what others might have expected from a CD with Barbie on the front cover. I listened to the CD on-line, which isn't the best quality, and I was impressed. It's pretty clear what the producers were aiming to create: a fun, somewhat ecletic collection of songs by female singers. A pre-teen version of the "Women of Song" collection.

This CD is very easy to listen to, and while few of the songs will ever become "golden oldies", they are all well produced. As for the lyrics: yes, there are a few more gritty passages, mostly in the "teen angst" songs. Compared to many of the lyrics sung even on public radio, the songs on this album are mild.

I'd recommend purchasing this CD, with the caveat that many people have hightly negative reactions to artists like Britteney and Christine.

    1 out of 5 stars Retarded cd.......2004-07-05

this is a retarded, stupid, and hideous cd. don't waste ur money unless you like to cover your ears a lot. the little kids in the backround ruined the whole cd. THEY CAN'T SING! these songs were so forged! don't waste $14.99! what was mattel thinking?! it would better if you just bought all of the real cd's that were taken to put on this crappy cd. I didn't hear barbie in this cd either. wuts the point in that! the barbie on the cover is a bad role model. she scares me! she wears provocotive clothing! do u really want your kids to be like that! do you really want to hurt your kids ears at such a young age? kids don't even listen to these songs! they listen to barnie! when you think of barbie, you think ages 4-8. but do u really want your kids listening to lyrics like "shake it like a poloroid picture" and other mature lyrics?! bottom line...............DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT! DO IT FOR THE HEALTH OF YOUR KIDS!

    1 out of 5 stars How stupid!.......2004-06-28

Stinkish-I totally agree with you 100%!!!! What was mattel thinking when they released this item? Some songs are ok, but "Hit me baby one more time?" That song is soooo old! And so yesterday, by lip singer, Hilary Duff, is sooooo yesterday!!!! You gotta be desperate for music to actually buy this or want it.If you think that i am way wrong then include me in your review.

With this hugely entertaining Classic Edition collection, Grandmaster Flash (a founding father of hip-hop and turntablism) has fashioned an indispensable release. Evoking big cars, bad suits, disco balls, and intensive hedonism, Flash fuses dancefloor stormers with wistful bits of yesteryear. The mix twists and turns, from Positive Force's "We Got the Funk" to James Brown's "Give It Up or Turn It Loose," before Flash drops "You're the One for Me" by D-Train. Every cut induces severe booty shake or warm and fuzzy nostalgia--or both, best illustrated when Blondie's "Rapture" segues into the marvelous "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life" by InDeep. Every half-serious music lover should own some Grandmaster Flash, for no collection is complete without him. --Steffan Chirazi

    Album Description

Featuring the pivotal dance hits 'I Can't Wait' by Nu-Shooz, 'Rapture' by Blondie, 'Last Night A DJ Saved My Life' by Indeep and many more! 2002.

    5 out of 5 stars A Must-have for O'Skoolers.......2005-09-17

This is the best compilation CD I've ever heard!!! If you're 31 and over you must have this. This definitely makes me reminisce about my younger days when hip hop was in its infant stages. The ultimate B-Boy jam, Jimmy Castor's "It's just begun", is reason enough. Don't wait any longer to add to your collection. ONE!!!!!!

    4 out of 5 stars Flash-a true master.......2004-05-23

Grandmaster Flash is truly the DJ of all time and he definitely proved it by releasing this breathtaking mix.A true pioneer and creator of "The Message". The guy was obviously light years ahead of everyone back then as well as today. This mix starts off with Flash's cool intro changing into Nu Shooz-I cant wait. The mixmaster includes The Fatback Band-I found Lovin' which had one of the tightest beats for 1984.Flash also includes monster tracks such as D-Train's you're the one for me,Indeep's Last night a Dj saved my life as well as Afrika Bambataas' Planet Rock where he adds some of his own scratching in a phenomenal way. I also had a chance to see him live in SF a few months ago and i honestly lost my mind. If you are into this kind of music(best there ever was unlike today's waste)you have to buy this cd. A true classic with over 70 minutes of the best mixing and scratching. The Flash is the best Dj of all time.

5 out of 5 stars Fortunately, He Still Got Love For Da Game!.......2004-05-09

Since I've purchased this CD, it has hardly ever left my car, much less my CD player. Flash is on top of his game here. He includes such classics as "I Can't Wait" (Nu Shooz), ""Before I Let Go" (Maze), and "Rapture" (Blondie). This CD is a must have for those who love the genre. It will provide a nice flashback to the 80s and have your car mirror quakin' with some serious sounds. It is good to know that each song is mixed into the next one and Flash does not miss a beat.

5 out of 5 stars Another seminal mix album from Grandmaster Flashý........2003-10-30

Not to be confused with "The Official Adventures of Grandmaster Flash" which still stands as one the greatest mix Album ever.....this is more of a personal introduction of music from the 80's era with a seminal track selection from the Grandmaster. And as soon as "Nu Shooz's - I Can't Wait" kicks of the proceedings, it just an amazing retrospection of why some of the 80's bands where held in such high regard. "Blondie" makes an appearance with one of her best tracks "Rapture" (where she was one of the first white females to rap), and "Indeep's - Last Night A DJ Saved My Life" disco-anthem, with the godfather of soul...'James Brown' appearing on "Give It Up or Turnit a Loose" providing the funk side of things, and not forgetting "Afrika Bambaataa's - Planet Rock" provides a non-stop catalogue of hits....obviously supremely mixed & Scratched by Grandmaster (who subtly mixes in the tracks, instead of grand scratch heavy introductions)....if you haven't bought a Grandmaster Flash album then buy "The Official Adventures of Grandmaster Flash"....but if you already have that (or can afford to buy two albums)..buy this as well, for a wonderfully insightful look at the music that influenced the Grandmaster.

    5 out of 5 stars summertime goodness.......2002-12-12

This CD is such a pick-me-up! In fact, I'd say it is one of my very favorite sunshine, summertime CDs. Flash keeps the mix moving with classic sing-along tracks that are all guaranteed to make you smile.
