Simultaneously serving as both endless fodder for intellectual debates and the album most likely to be blaring out of the adjacent car's window, All Eyez on Me is a phenomenon that packs a wallop with every listen. Unquestionably the most nihilistic album to top the Billboard charts--and it's doubtful that any will match it--Eyez also manages to dish out the good-times dance tunes and still flow seamlessly. Recording commenced within hours of Tupac Shakur's release from prison, and a year's worth of pent-up ideas are unleashed with a fury akin to lifting the lid on a box of plutonium. The line between high art and insufferable reality, possibilities and self-destruction, has never been so blurred. Eyez is a landmark achievement that is unlikely to be topped by any heir apparent to the hip-hop crown. --Gregg Turkington

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A true masterpiece in every sense of the word........2007-07-05

Tupac was a true MC and poet. His improvisations and lyrics were second to none. I always said that he was the Gil Scott Heron and Curtis Mayfield of his generation because he was so insightful and knowledgable about different things from the industry itself to the politics and injustices that exist in the communities across the country. "All Eyez on me" is a true masterpiece and is my personal favorite Tupac Shakur album.

3 out of 5 stars Could Have Been a Great One Disc Album... Spread Across Two It Drags On Too Much..........2007-06-14

This album starts off great. Disc one is filled with tons of excellent material that is among the best work Pac has put out. In fact, the only track I wasn't feeling was 'How Do U Want It' with K-Ci and JoJo. Many of the tracks featured on disc one are straight up classics, such as the well-done single 'California Love (Remix)' with Dr. Dre. 'Got My Mind Made Up' is my personal favorite track on this album, and it features Redman and Method Man, who do an excellent job here. The rest of the songs on disc one range from good to excellent. I would give disc one at least a four star rating.

Disc two, however, is run of the mill 2pac affair and is filled with numerous boring and mundane tracks that really drag this set down. The opener on disc two, 'Can't C Me' which features funk legend George Clinton is definitely a highlight, and 'When We Ride' featuring the Outlawz is pretty good as well. However, the bulk of the second disc is extremely mediocre and forgettable.

This collection is still worth owning for disc one, but approach the second half of the album with caution. I found 2pac's later post-death release 'Until the End of Time' to have more worthwhile content than this release.

Stand out tracks: 'Got My Mind Made Up', '2 Of Amerikaz Most Wanted', 'California Love' (remix)

5 out of 5 stars All Eyez on Pac.......2007-06-09

2Pac changed his style a bit from his previous release Me Against the World as he was now aligned with the most powerful hip hop label in the world, Death Row. He hits a grand slam for gangsta rap with this one. He shows his great aggression on the mic and collaborates extremely well with Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre to make classic joints like 2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted and California Love. This is one of the greatest albums ever released not just from the West Coast, but hip hop in general.

5 out of 5 stars All Eyez were on him.......2007-05-08

Im going to be brief. Upon his release from prison Tupac drops a double album classic All Eyez On Me. Even though its missing the political Pac I knew from 2pacalypse Now and Strictly For My N***az, it is nevertheless a great album that I still bump from time to time. Standout Tracks on Discs 1&2:AMBITIONZ OF A RIDAH, GOT MY MIND MADE UP(classic matchup with the Dogg Pound, Method Man and Redman), HOW DO YOU WANT IT, 2 OF AMERIKAZ MOST WANTED, NO MORE PAIN, HEARTZ OF MEN, ONLY GOD CAN JUDGE ME, TRADIN WAR STORIES, CALIFORNIA LOVE REMIX(RIP ROGER TROUTMAN), I AINT MAD AT CHA, CANT C ME, HOLLA AT ME, PICTURE ME ROLLIN, CHECK OUT TIME, ALL EYEZ ON ME(was once an anthem out here and rightfully so) and RUN THA STREETZ. Filler: The only song I cant feel is Heaven Aint Hard 2 Find. Bottom Line: 2pac dropped two classics The Seven Day Theory and All Eyez On Me. His rhymes were still sharp(even though the political side is missing)and the production was super. All in all one of the best double albums ever made. One last thing I never compared him to Malcolm X or Martin Luther King Jr but this son of a panther is not just another rapper you fool! G-Dep, House Of Pain, Lil Flip, Lil Jon(yeah right he is a hypeman)Tony Yayo etc are just rappers. Tupac, Krs-One,Chuck D, Immortal Technique,Rass Kass, Dead Prez, The Coup, Paris, Ice Cube(the old one), X-Clan, Sunz of Man, T-Kash, Uno The Prophet are all over and beyond your silly rappers and if you think all these soldiers are just rappers you need to stick to bubble gum bull**** you're used to. Next time talk what you know which is absolutely nothing which means you'll be keeping your mouth closed for a while!

5 out of 5 stars CHRIS ROCK IS THE MAN!!!!!!!.......2007-07-23

This girl, i don't talk to anymore, left this album in my car when it came out. I let a friend borrow it and it came back ruined. I didn't know the name of the album or where to find it. Today, I see that Chirs Rock puts this on his 25 top album list. Every song on this alBum is awesome!!!!!!!! BUY IT TODAY!!!!!!! 5 STARS ISN'T ENOUGH

5 out of 5 stars Sweet!.......2007-05-19

This CD is one of the hottest, with Tupac lyrics over beats like: hold up by dr. dre, if u dont give a damn gone throw it up by young bloodz, on my block by scarface, and much much more... the best thing is it sounds like the beats were made just for those lyrics by Pac!

5 out of 5 stars from beyond.......2006-08-14

I have been a tupac fan since i was 15 and i will tell you this is a great jumpoff for a novice listener, and a great retrospective for a fan. You can say tupac was the best rapper ever give that title to a mortal like big or jay-z. Tupac was a poet of our times, even the hardest thug has to feel a not in his throught when hearing him flow on the the baby don't cry remix about a girl being atacked. This mixtape does justice to his quotes and should have been the soundtract to the movie instead of the cliche'ed one that was released. After seeing the movie and hearing this tape, if you are open minded, you will see why so many think he was assasinated and not just shot in a drive by. This man could very well have settled down and became a central figure in American politics. If ron regan can be president then Pac could have been a national figure easily. This album is a great place to start.

3 out of 5 stars good idea. .......2006-04-06

i, too looked for this after reading what chris rock said about it in rolling stone. a few songs are okay, a few songs are really weak (as weak as a pac tune can get), and a few are just filler.

however, a few stand out. such as "hold up," an entire song based upon nate dogg's line in dre's "the next episode." it has this really tight beat that sounds kinda like old old snoop dogg. before he dropped the doggy. if you're blazin' phillies, its good stuff to cruise to. additionally, "fight music" is a strong track, with pac flowing over "hate me now" by puffy and nas. it's really good because the beat is prolific, powerful, and quite emotional. the particular pac lines they choose are equally as powerful, giving one the feeling as though this is the original. "me against the world" is pac over dre's "still d.r.e." beat, which is pretty cool (except for the female chorus vocals). i mean, that's a killer beat no matter who rhymes over it. i like dre's much better, but this was a good mix. "thug in me" sounds kinda like something pac would've done when he was alive. it's a decent filler track, i suppose.

the best thing this cd has to offer is tupac's personal opinion that starts the track "revolution."

he says "this country was built on gangs. you know. i think this country still is run on gangs. republicans. democrats. the police department. the fbi. the c.i.--those are gangs. you know what i mean? the correctional officers. i had a correctional officer tell me straight up 'we're the biggest gang in new york state.' straight up."

hearing these words really made me remember how great tupac was. he had a lot of strong messages that unfortunately too little of his audience could actually hear. if you're a tupac fan and have most of his cds, then yeah. add this one to your collection because you'll probably dig it. if you're not a diehard pac fan, then maybe just consider it for fact that its pac with hot new beats. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. but definitely get this before you shell out $XX for Death Row's "nu-mixx klassics." this one is better.

5 out of 5 stars Delivers what it promises........2006-03-31

I decided to pick this up after hearing that Chris Rock had put it in his top 25 Rap CD's of all time...
This mixtape does make you relise something though. All of Pac's beats on his old songs seem tailered for him, cause with his style of rapping, you cant just put any beat in, even the hottest beats may sound wack with him...
I own every pac album from when he was alive, and his greatest hits, and there was still some verses in here I hadnt hered, so it is a good buy... All the tracks flow together, so it sounds like a real mixtape. The best song is the second one, Revolution Feturing Busta Rhymes, over that one really hot P. Diddy beat ( Forgot the name ) And what is cool is that verse is from Military Minds, and even though I found the original song wack, they make it really really good, even better than some of his greatest hits... The Dj's did a good job... Bottom line, if you are a Pac fan get this! I will soon be getting the B.I.G. one too...

I denounce the explotation of premtitated schemes/

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars rap at its best.......2007-06-10

Classic rap album by pac and his ability to rap about real situation was amazing...Even doe this album is more like rap then hip hop ? I prefer hip hop it still great and will live on forever.

5 out of 5 stars All Eyez On Me-Raw, Rough/Rugged, West-side, Prime-2pac Masterpiece Album.......2007-05-24

Let's set the stage...Tupac is in jail for a ridiculous sexual assault charge. Tupac signs a contract with Death Row in exchange for bail, and heads into the studio ready to explode. The result was All Eyez On Me--the embodiment of WestCoast representation and classic rap material. Since this album took about 2 weeks to create, the material is fresh and raw. At the pinnacle of his career and in his intellectual prime, a no holds barred superior track set-up establishes this cd at the top of the food chain.

Ambitionz az a Ridah, Only God Can Judge Me and All Eyez On Me, 2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted ft. Snoop (arguably one of the best gangster songs ever) reflect his intellectual superiority, warrior mentality, and gang affiliation...

How Do U Want It, Skandalouz, All Bout U are classic dance tracks involving his attitudes about different types of women.

California Love (awesome beats with Dr. Dre)!

Check it out and read the lyrics when you listen.

5 out of 5 stars The Second Disc is Very Underrated.......2006-11-01

I really don't understand why everyone keeps having a dig at the second disc. Well i guess at the end of the day everyone has their own opinion, but for me the second disc is just as good as the first. In fact the way i see it the only track he [...]up on was What'z Ya Phone # on the first disc, which was obviously made to be a filler. Other than that its breath taking. Production wise its absolutely flawless, Pac decided to make a G Funk style album, rapping skills were more than tight, Pac delivers fantastic rhyming skills and as for guest appearances, even some of The Outlawz who i usually don't really like aren't even bad. This album is simply loaded with classics and theres really something for everyone, if you want gangsta rap theres tracks like Ambitionz Az A Ridah and All Eyez On Me, you want plain feel good party tracks theres tracks like How Do U Want It and California Love and for some more issue touching songs you've got s**t like Life Goes On and Holla At Me. If I had to chose only one rap album to listen to for the rest of my life i can tell you that i wouldn't hesitate to chose this. As for my fave tracks, its rather a hard choice but i could give you my top 5 for each disc. Disc 1 Ambitionz Az A Ridah, Skandalouz, Got My Mind Made Up, Life Goes On, Tradin War Stories Disc 2 Holla At Me, Check Out Time, All Eyez On Me, Run Tha Streetz, Ain't Hard 2 Find. To summarizre my review "I highly, highly recommend this"

5 out of 5 stars Gangsta Rap At Its Absolute Pinnacle!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-10-16

This is one of those albums wgere you don't even have to be a fan of rap to enjoy. This album is just goodness from begiining to end. Whenever I go for long drives I like to jam both discs in my five disc player and let it bang from the classic opening Ambitionz Az A Ridah to the classic ending Heaven Ain't Hard 2 Find. Though its certainly not without a few fillers such as What'z Ya Phone# but other than that, its amazing. Now the production is f****** great and all the beats are classic, then Pac spits some great lyrics though not as deep as in albums like Me Against The World but still great. As for the guest appearances, Snoop Doggy Dogg, Tha Dogg Pound, Nate Dogg, Method Man, Red Man, Dr Dre, Richie Rich, Michele and Danny Boy were f****** great, Big Syke and Rappin 4 Tay were good, the Outlawz were err so so, but it still remains a definite 5 star album.
1. Ambitionz Az A Eidah - 10/10 Classic
2. All About U - 9/10 Near classic
3. Skandalouz 10/10 Classic, Nate Dogg
4. Got My Mind Made Up 9/10 - Everyone on here did a great job
5. How Do U Want It 10/10 - Classic
6. 2 Of Amerikaz Most Wanted 10/10 - Classic, Tupac and Snoop just don't go wrong together

8. Heartz Of Men 10/10 - Classic
9. Life Goes On 10/10 - Classic
10. Only God Can Judge Me 10/10 - Classic, Rappin 4 Tay was good
11. Tradin War Stories 9/10 - Pretty good
12. California Love RMX 9/10 - Its great but the original version is so much better
13. I Ain't Mad At Cha 10/10 - Classic
14. What'z Ya Phone # 5/10 - Wack, the song actually wasn't that terrible but it only goes for like 2 minutes then theres like a three minute outro. Definitely my least favourite off the album

2. Shorty Wanna Be A Thug 10/10 - Classic
3. Holla At Me 10/10 - Classic

5 out of 5 stars the album that changed the face of rap.......2006-10-14

2 pac-all eyez on me well first let start by saying i dont listen to rap alot but i remember when this album come out when i was 14 and believe me this is a rap masterpiece!!!! this is the album that helped to mold rap to what it is today 2 pac and biggy smalls changed the face of hip-hop for good and the reason they did and their lyrics had heart and showed smarts not seen in mosr rap of today which is a shame in view because i love all kinds of music but for my money ice cube,dr.dre, old snoop dogg, eminem, bone, master p,jay-z,kaynewest,and as much as hate to admit it 50 cent those r best rappers around if u want good hip-hop defiently look them up but if u dont already own this 2-pac masterpiece buy it now u wont regret it. long live good music!!!!!!!!!

4 out of 5 stars (Rating: 8 Out Of 10) Pac's First Double Disc, and His Last Album While Alive.......2006-09-05

Before I start my review, let me you know something. I'm not one of those people who prases Tupac like he's some kind of god or something. I understand he was highly talented and everything, but to me he was just another emcee, just like everyone else. Also I don't put him into comparison with people like Malcom X and Dr. Martin Luther King, because those people are in a whole another league than Tupac Shakur was. I know that sounds a little ignorant, because I don't believe whatever you want me to believe in, but that is how I see him, a highly talented emcee, and thats it. For you people who can't accept the fact on the comment I just made and cannot accept my rating, just click the "No" button at the bottom and save yourself some time.

Anyway here is my review:

Pac was a big name back in 1996. Everybody knew who he was, and what he was all about. Around that time, he was also facing some huge problems, aside from the beef with Notorious BIG. When he got into the studio, recorded and released "All Eyez On Me" that became a huge multi-platnum selling album. I didn't get a chance to hear this until about 5 years ago, and hearing this album was so refreshing to my ears.

Disc One was more of the commercial side of Pac. Most of his songs were shooting for mainstream status, with well success. The biggest Pac hit he had was "California Love" with Dr. Dre. (still sampling Roger Toutman) Now the album has the remix with a more relaxed west coast style beat, than the one many people are familiar with (even though there was a video for both songs). Aside from that, one of my favorite joints is "How Do You Want It" with Jodeci. The disc will also contain most of his other hit songs from the album: "It's All About U", "I Ain't Mad At Cha" (a different version with the same beat is on the video), and "2 Of Amerika's Most Wanted". Some of the guests would shine on here also. The Dogg Pound and Redman and Method Man would join in for the song "I Got My Mind Made Up". Speaking of Method Man, parts of his song "Bring The Pain" would be the hook for Pac's song "Bring The Pain" with more of a gangstafied feel.

Disc Two had a little gangstafied style to the album. A highlight would be the song "Wonder Why They Call U B***h" dedicated to many women who go around hanging out with guys for sexual activities. It feels like Pac switched styles when he hit the second disc on this album, because this mood is more different than the first disc. Another song that I like is "Check Out Time", as well as the gangsta love type track "Run The Streets". Production is pretty straight. Guest appearances are okay on this disc. Kurupt and everyone who appears on "It Ain't Hard 2 Find" with E-40 and more are pretty dope. Some of the no names on this album like Big Syke aren't as good (listen to "All Eyez On Me" title track for instance). Other than that, it's okay.

So this is very unfortunate. Pac wasn't around long enough to see his album sell 9+ million copies. I enjoyed both discs, and I'll pop em in every once in a while when I want to hear some rhymes with a gangsta feel behind it. I'm pretty sure every Pac fan has snatched this up. If you don't have this, I recommend that you get it also. Also check out "Me Against The World", because I like that one better than this one here.

5 out of 5 stars Mo is back again :).......2005-08-03

Well let me start by saying.... that when this cd was released I was waiting for it. no release in the states. I was wondering what happened I kept hearing that the cd was pushed back. Then six months later After The Storm was released. I thought I was done then I found that All Eyes On Me was an Import. I must alot of the songs are the same on the US release. But the ones that are not are very good I am glad that I got this Import it was worth the money. If you are a fan of Monica's or as us hardcore fans call her as well as JD...Mo is back and if you have both cd's its like a double cd with the bonus songs on the US version that do not appear on the Import version you get two extra songs that are not on the Import you get "What Part Of The Game ft Mia X and Down For Whatever" which both are good songs it total if you get both you have 23 songs total. Also if you have an Ipod you can get special edtion remixes of "So Gone,Set It Off,Knock Knock" the remixes are a raw unedited version of the songs with Mo telling you how she feels without the beeps

5 out of 5 stars She's Hot .......2005-08-03

Monica's All Eyez On Me Album is the best album from her so far. She so beautiful and talented. The Album Should've Came Out In 2002, but only get released in Japan. I waited a year for this album because the dates kept changing later she rereleased the album called After The Storm. I can't wait until next year when her new album comes out. Anyways if you are a Monica Fan you'll love it. All The songs are good it even has just another girl on it her the soundtrack of Down To Earth Movie. It is worth the money totally.

5 out of 5 stars It is ashame that this album wasn't released in the US........2005-03-27

Monica's album "All Eyez On Me" is a Japanese version of her "After The Storm" album which was released in the US. "All Eyez On Me" featured new songs not seen on the American "After The Storm". "I'm Back" features beats from B.I.G's "Hypnotize" which is so slick and sexy. "All Eyez On Me" is a remake of Michael Jackson's "Pretty Young Thing" which was a single I believe from the album. "Too Hood" has a Dirty-South feel on the bass line. Monica says she doesn't want anybody but a man who is hood. "U Deserve" (which is the best song on the CD) uses the beat from 2Pac's "Hail Mary". It is so great. "If U Were The Girl" is a bass-booming track which is definently on point. You should DEFINENTLY pick up this album if you already have "After The Storm" because these tracks should have replaced some of the tracks on that CD.

5 out of 5 stars It's a shame..........2003-07-17

It's a shame that this album wasn't released in the states! Even though I had to purchase it as an import - it was well worth my $... The 7 previous reviewers were right on regarding in their reviews of this album. If you're a Monica fan this is a must have for your collection.

4 out of 5 stars Monica: All Eyez On The Album.......2003-07-10

This version of her third album was not released in the USA (other than bootleg and over the Internet). "After The Storm" is the revised version of this released in the USA with some new tracks put on it, including "Go To Bed Mad" w/ Tyrese and "Knock Knock".

The album highlights are "All Eyez On Me", which samples "Pretty Young Thing" by Michael Jackson. It's a great get-your-groove-on song and Rodney Jerkins does a great job with the production side of the song. Other tracks to look into on the album include "Too Hood", which allows Monica to tell you how she feels about pretty boys and what she likes. Jermaine Dupri does a great job with the production side of the song. "What My Heart Says" is a great slow song. Monica really shines vocally with songs like this along with "For You I Will". It allows her to put emotion into her singing about the love you can have for someone despite disapproval of people trying to govern it. And also "Ain't Gonna Cry no More", which I think is a great song and she also had the chance to write, because it's just a Monica-styled song all the way. Rodney Jerkins works his production wonder again with this song. More eccentric tracks include "If U Were The Girl", which has a sample of a C-Murder song talking about a man being in a woman's shoes when she finds her man cheating and lying, "U Deserve", which samples 2Pac's "Hail Mary", "I'm Back", which samples B.I.G's "Hypnotize" introing her return to doing an album since her second album "The Boy Is Mine", and a heartfelt song calling about of her past boyfriend Jarvis Darnell Weems, who committed suicide in front of her with "I Wrote This Song". It was a tragic, yet emotionally awakening experience in her life. I'm glad she overcame the experience, not ever forgetting it, and continuing to live and be the best person she needs to be as a woman (1) and musician (2).

Truly appreciate Monica's real-girl attitude and emotion when she sings. She truly can hold her own as a female vocalist and woman and I fully wish nothing but success and happiness in her life.

Buy the album and appreciate it for what it's worth. Support true talent like this.

5 out of 5 stars remastered w/ bad edit.......2006-03-04

The edit in this CD is awful. Better Dayz and Until The End Of Time are the same way except only the words are reversed and not the background track. What they mean by "digitally remastered" is all songs were converted into stereo 2 format, reducing hiss and making the sound more crisp & clear.

2 out of 5 stars DJ's BEWARE!!!.......2003-06-18

I purchased this album with the hopes of being able to enjoy it at home and also use it to DJ on-the-air and at school dances. Unfortunately, I am doing neither. Although the album itself is one of the greatest hip-hop records ever recorded, the new "edited" version makes it almost unlistenable.

Most times, I don't mind when an edited version "drops out" the offensive lyrics (while the backing track continues to play). However, on this album, the editors decided to reverse the curse words and the music together. This editing technique has been used quite frequently on songs with one or two offensive words. But when every few seconds 2Pac is dropping the "f" bomb, the edits become very annoying and really detract from the songs. You might get just as much enjoyment out of listening to the whole thing backwards.

If you want edited 2Pac, try the clean version of the "Greatest Hits" cd. It collects most of the original radio versions, with the exception of a few tracks that are poorly edited.

Bottom line: watch out for any of Death Row's "Remastered" edited cds. I had a similar bad experience with Snoop Doggy Dogg's "Doggystyle" (Remastered/Edited Version).

String quartet versions exelled such beautiful performance! After reviewing Tupac Shakur's original albums, I decided to check out the string quartet. To be honest, Tupac's work shows such strong, beautiful meanings of his life while the string version plays the beauty of many instruments dedicating to Tupac's work and his music. For those who love rap and a side of classical listening, this is one collection you can't pass up to!
