Ever wonder what happened to that hip-hop of old--dope beats and raw lyrics without the gimmicks? Self Scientific have the answer, and they're more than willing to share it on this debut album. L.A. natives DJ Khalil and Chace Infinite use a stunning blend of lyrical agility and powerful production to give the listener a musical treat that more than stands out from the current pack. Pattering snares and ethereal keyboards are the backdrop for "Anguish," a track that illuminates life's everyday struggles, and underground sensations Planet Asia and Krondon add their voices to the piano-laden "Three Kings." Multiple samples enhance the bass-heavy snares on "Duality," one of the album's greatest achievements: the cut eloquently examines the struggle to maintain a balance between the positive and negative elements of life. Self Scientific are the sound of hip-hop's future, and you can hear it before the rest of the world catches up. --Kenji Jasper

Droppin Science.......2005-10-19
This album was a great introduction to a very talented group with alot of potential. The DJ holds it down for the most part on this album and drops some pretty fresh and inovative ish for you to nod your head to their are just a few tracks that are average but nothing is really bad. The beats range from gritty funk, to salsa flavored grooves. The MC of the group however has got some work to do he tries really hard to drop some ill metaphors in the vein of CANIBUS but ends up sounding so corny that it is actually hilarious like the track where he spits "light up the marajuana its green like an igauna" or another track where he says "im out to take over the world like napoleon" these "metaphors" are pretty bad I would liken his style to that of MASTA ACE but despite his corny rhymes he is still better than 100% of the crap that you see on MTV. Overall This was a dope record. When these guys say they are on some other ish they arent kidding. I think that musicly and lyricly they still have some work to do but given the right amount of time I'm sure that we will see great things from them. 4 MICS
It's all scientific..........2005-10-15
I first heard of this group in 1999 on the Hip-Hop 101 mix tape. Although they were descent on that album, they certainly weren't anything to jump up and down about. Two years later, they release The Self Science and move up another rung on the hip-hop ladder. DJ Khalil has done numerous projects for the underground and I must say that he's a genius with the production on this album. Undeniably, this album exposes the talents of DJ Khalil and MC Chace Infinite to the fullest. Give credit where credit is due, this album is diffently deserving of a double take. The whole album is something you can chill to and reflect upon the science. This is hip-hop's BEST PART, ONLY SOME GET IT!
self science is the perfect rap equation.......2004-03-18
This album from start to finish is fantastic!!! The production by DJ Khalil is the freshest, most original beats you'll hear around. His blend of subtle guitar loops, punctuated with crisp snares and kicks with the funkiest of bass-lines really set the tone for each track excellently. Chace's flow is not only intelligent but creative, uplifting, it makes you think and most importantly, considering most of the lack lustre albums out at the moment, really positive. If i have 1 fault its that Krondon is on 3 of the best tracks and doesnt really shine, nor add anything to them that Chace could'nt do BETTER by himself. The stand out cuts for me are, "covenant", "best part", "the long run", "we all need", "self science", "duality", "return" and the bonus hidden track "god-spawn" (even though it has Krondon on it). Trust me on this, if you dont have it, youre missing out. An absolute cracker!!!!!
this CD is a classic.......2003-08-08
this CD is a classic, its not on the level of illmatic but its close. i hate how people sleep on real hip hop. any true hip hop fan should own this CD. some fo the dopest beats i have heard in a while, and the lyrics are crazy
Self Scientific... a must for the underground heads.......2003-07-18
I was playing around on the internet one day listening for new underground cats I havent heard yet, next thing you know Im downloading Self Scientific ft. Krondon... Three Kings.. before the song even ended I wrote them down in the "to buy" list. Many times when you hear one hot track and you buy an album in hopes the rest is the same... you usually only get another 2 hot tracks at the most... but Self Scientific aint playin around... Some dedicated underground mc's right there, from LA no less, with the perfect ingredients to a tight underground sound, which is all over this cd.
If you are into cats like ... Jedi Mind Tricks, Planet Asia, Afu-Ra, and so on... chances are... this disc will sit nicely in your collection.
