Where'd these guys come from? Canada?!?!.......2006-03-27
I just got back from a concert in a local venue and these guys were the opener. They were AMAZING! They have such stage presence that doesn't really show on the CD, but I constantly find myself dancing at my desk. Such a great group. Such a great CD. Such great lyrics and melodies. Go see them live!

Please people, for your own well being, DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS ALBUM. I've listened to a lot of hip hop and have grown tired of the repetiive garbage thats bein thrown in our faces on tv and through radio, so have mainly gone the independant route the last couple of years and this album is by far the most rounded, complete cd i've listened to in a long time. There isnt one weak track production wise, with different variety on every song, and if you enjoy listening to music and lyrics that actually inspires you to think and not the nonsense thats gettin airplay these days, I beg of you, buy this bad boy. The message that comes across in their music is a breath of fresh air given the state of hip hop these days. If you are a rap fan, and dont own this priceless gem, you should be ashamed of yourself. I guarentee you wont be dissapointed. Also was lucky enough to see them in concert in Vancouver recently and they rocked man. Great live act. Keep on truckin fellas.
GOod Stuff.......2005-10-06
I picked this CD up after a few weeks of anticipation. At first I was like "oooh man, should have bought that from autumn to ashes cd", but after listening to it it has grown on me. I would have to say the other two cds are still better but this one is a solid release. I would still recommend.

A good rap album that could've been better - rappers/lyrics aren't that good - still, you'll probably like it.......2006-01-07
Sweatshop Union's "Natural Progression" is good, but what stops it from being really great is two things - A: the lyrics just aren't very interesting (they aren't about anything, but they're definitely catchy most of the time), and B: the rappers are pretty sissy sounding (they lack charisma and aren't too memorable really - they can definitely spit, though - this isn't the kind of rap you would blast from your car). Practically every song here is very good, and there are certainly hitworthy tracks like "Garbage Love Songs & Cheesy Jingles" and "Better Days", for example. The production is decent - they can definitely create catchy and fun beats which are somewhat interesting at times. The reason this got a "4" is because of the amount of good/catchy tunes here as well as those two hitworthy songs I mentioned before. The lyrics definitely need a lot of work, though (and the rappers). Mainstream rap fans probably won't like this, but underground rap fans should. Recommended.
Highlights include:
"The Answer"
"Radio Edit"
"I Got News"
"Don't Be Afraid"
"Better Days"
"US"
"Truman Show"
"Baho Ang Titi Mo" (sort of)
"On The Sly"
"P.O.T.B." (sort of)
"The Way"
"Garbage Love Songs & Cheesy Jingles"
"Any Reason" (it's decent)
All you gay mtv-ers please listen to this and die if you don't.......2005-09-03
My friend is a major hip hop head and i am trying to catch up to his dope music and so i ask him so group name and he told Sweatshop Union and so I went and bought it the next time I was at a store. I put it and listen to it and even my initial oppions were very good but then once I was in my room chillin I truely realized how damn good these guys are, and how gay mtv sugar pop is.
Better than 604... Barely.......2005-07-28
I have had this album for a few months now and it has surmounted all of the other songs, with most of my 25 most played songs in iTunes all coming from this album. Honestly, it is hard to find a problem with the album. It isn't really for people who don't like to listen to music that will make them think, because almost every bar is filled with some sort of political or social meaning. It really is a thinking man's underground album, so if that describes you I'd pick this up.
As for the other Sweatshop albums, i believe that this is better than 604, but it's hard to say. Both are definitely top 10 albums for me. Meanwhile United We Fall, the most recent Sweatshop release, is a bit of a disappointment, though by no means a bad CD. But pick up this and Local 604 first.
How i was intoduced to Sweatshop Union............2005-03-15
All I can say is WOW Great Lyrics...I especially like US... It reminded me of the Political work of Mr lif "home of the Brave" another great album...
Great group... glad I stumbled across them........2005-03-01
The undesputed highlight of this album for me is 'The Thing About It'. Serious lyrics with a good rhythm, on issues that we can change. This song was part of the soundtrack for a mountain bike video and after watching the section 20 times I bought the CD and played that 30-50 times. For this song alone the price is worth it.
Sweatshop Union is all about the lyrics. Very high quality with a constant rhythm. Serious messages. Non-aggravating voices. I prefer music that I can actually repeat the lyrics... this is it.
Tracks like US, Truman Show, Dont Be Afraid are other standouts. The rest are pretty good. I dislike 'I got news' because it is more like gangsta rap (the anti sweatshop) than anything else.
To top it off, these guys are locals to me... I'm glad to support the effort.

Great Hiphop.......2006-03-26
Now here's some leftist stuff. True working people's pasta.
In fine form, this Vancouver crew spit, pop fun beats and throw shouts out to Canadian working-class life (President's Choice-brand food, clubbing in downtown Vancouver).
An astoundingly local album that's also accessible to anyone... from party tracks to comedy tracks, this album has it all. Clever lyrics abound in a seriously variety-filled disk held together by the coherence of message.
For an album that boasts more than five emcees and several producers, this disk seems surprisingly coherent.
Local 604.......2005-03-15
What can I say... Some of the best hip hop ive ever heard, coming back from a surf trip i picked up this Canadian radio station and heard US (a single from there sophmore album Natural Progression) and wrote it down on a scrap of paper in my truck. And its all history from there went to my local shop and found one of there records tossed it in and the rest is history.. now every person that i have introduced to this band has gone out and purchased one of there albums....This album in very good but i enjoy the second on more "Natural Progression"
Groundbreaking.......2003-12-10
Canadian Hiphop is grabbing their well-deserved share of the spotlight. This album has everything you would want in a hiphop album. It's got tight production, great style, awesome vibes and wicked-intelligent lyrics. Sweatshop has got it goin' on. If you're lookin' for songs about chicks and chains...move along. If you're lookin' for rhymes about guns and gangsterism...move along.
These guys are great emcees who choose to use their voice to provoke thought. I would call them a blue-collar political group. They don't rap about world politics that we have very little control over. They rap about stuff that goes on in our everyday lives that's just not right. They rap about stuff that is important to them and perhaps you'll just find that you agree.
I can't say enough about these guys. They're inspirational. These guys are part of the movement that will save hiphop from its detrimental course. Battle Axe has supported yet another quality group.
It's Canadian Hiphop and I wouldn't trade it for anything. These guys are the real deal and they're keepin' it real.
Mad Props to the Sweatshop Union and to all you guys who are lovin' it. Let's make a difference.

tight true record.......2003-11-07
great album, these guys are throwing out important lyrics, definately a good group of artists to support..
solid.......2003-10-01
What do you want? Talented rapping? It's Here. Talented writing? It's here. A variety of beats? Got it. Quality production all around? Sweatshop. Wait, you mean you get all this and a positive message? These guys are actually rapping about something? Not just guns, drugs, and girls? Wow. How can you not love this CD? These guys are solid. It's got a bit of everything. Want some mellow, layed out, chill tracks? Some in here. Want some pumped up energizers? Check. What gets me most of all though, is that they are there for a reason. I know I'm repeating myself, but its worth pointing out more tha once. I grew up just south of the border and the Canadians had always been our slightly backwrds neighbors to the north. I am seeing my perception change. have become a wannabe Canadian (I am a quarter), and these gyus have only helped. I think that Canada has got some of the freshest true Hip Hop, not to mention the siccest label, Battle Axe, I dont know enough words to truely describe this CD. It is leaving me flabbergasted. Cop it. To sum it up in one word: Scrumtrelescent.
