4 out of 5 stars A delightful trip back in time.......2004-04-24

This is a truly enjoyable record of a concert that begins with a set by NRBQ, and then they are joined by John Sebastian for a great set primarily comprising much-loved songs from Sebastian's days in The Lovin' Spoonful. The whole crowd must have been singing along with these spirited renditions of the old hits. Naturally, the 'Q do a terrific job supplying the instrumental and vocal parts. This is not as raucous and unpredictable as other NRBQ concert recordings, but what it might lack in wacky excitement it makes up for in warmth.

1 out of 5 stars Lord have mercy.......2001-07-08

Back in the mid-90's, underground artists who were Christians began making a stand. They were basically saying that even though they were Christian, they could still hold their own on the mic. Artists like SFC, LPG, Future Shock and Brainwash Projects each dropped albums that could more than hold their own among underground hip hop circles. Gotee Records contributed to that breakthrough with the first two Grits albums: Mental Releases and Factors of the 7. Both of those albums were dope and it seemed that Gotee was on it's way to holding down true hip hop for Christian artists. Well, to put it mildly, that didn't happen.

Grits third album was a step backward, Knowdaverbs and John Reuben both released pop junk...and then there's DJ Maj. My opinion: this album .... Worst part is, Maj took everyone down with him. I realize that this is supposed to be a mix tape, but how many remixes by Gotee artists do you need? I guess that this was supposed to be an album that was diverse enough to attract a wide arrange of listeners (hence the inclusion of Out of Eden, the Katinas and Pettidee) but why is the hip hop just so BAD? Especially from artists who are just so much better! Pigeon John's joint was ok, but he's usually much cripser. LA Symph's "Bring Back Arsenio" was funny upon first listen, but quickly degenerated to a "skip" track. And others (Grits, 4th Avenue Jones) just didn't live up to their ability.

I would be quick to denounce Gotee Records as the fall-off of the deacade, if it weren't for Maj's second offering. Now THAT is a good album. First, he got rid of most of the non hip hop (Out of Eden still appears, but that's ok) and he was able to get more artists with better tracks. I would HIGHLY recommend skipping this album altogether and getting that.

4 out of 5 stars It's Tight! It's Tight!.......2001-03-21

People wonder why the girl with the "Jesus Fish" on the back of her car is riding down the street straight-jammin' while bumpin' the songs on this CD! On the next CD, I would like to hear more of a variety of artists. But this one is still tight. The beats are slammin' and the artists/songs are pure 'n' HOLY! DJ Maj represented the holy hip-hop community well.

3 out of 5 stars it was ok..........2000-07-18

..but basically this whole CD revolves around the Pidgeon John track. Otherwise, I found this CD to be very similar to the weak hip-hop offered buy most Gotee artists. Maybe some Labklik, Gospel Gangstaz and Pettidee would have helped make this CD better.

5 out of 5 stars Pure Hip-Hop.......2000-06-23

The CD is tight. The beats are banging and the rhymes are on point. My favorite track is Golden Motor Cycle by Pigeon John. I can't wait for the next CD.

5 out of 5 stars HIP HOP KINGDOM.......2000-05-25

Hip Hop-heavy to the heavy-Bang Bang the boogie-of the rhythm of the Kingdom to be. Now what you hear on this CD is not no mess but beats and rhymes from the Kingdom's BEST!

    Album Description

This CD captures Billy Price and the Keystone Rhythm Band live at the Wax Museum in Washington D.C. Featuring the blistering rock/blues guitar of Glenn Pavone, the band smokes through a hot set of blues and soul before an enthusiastic audience. The CD includes the first release ever of a lost Otis Redding song, Since You've Gone Again; Price's version of I Can't Lose the Blues, which was later covered by bluesman Son Seals; and Price's lengthy workout on Tyrone Davis's Turn Back the Hands of Time.

    5 out of 5 stars Pittsburgh R&B / Soul at its best.......2000-05-02

Billy Price is an icon in one of Pittsburgh's best kept secrets, its thriving and creative Rhythm & Blues scene. Songs like Turn Back the Hands of Time and Since You Been Gone Again make you want to call a past love one up and plead for forgiveness. Eldorodo Cafe brings back memories of dancing on a packed floor with Billy belting out strong heart felt lyrics and the KRB keeping perfect time behind him. Dave Dodds on drums, Glen Pavone on lead, Gene Ludwig on keyboards and Nick Dialossa ( latter on ) on sax. Those were the days my friend! This is a great album but a poor substitute for seeing Billy live. I also reccommend the Soul Collection.

    4 out of 5 stars Don't miss this CD.......2002-05-25

If you are a Jay and the Americans fan put this one on your list to buy. They sing many great tunes that were recorded by other artists but Jay's talent shines through as he delivers them in his style. When I got it I thought I was going to wear it out, I played it so much. 24 great songs and you will love them all.

4 out of 5 stars The Voice of Jay Black at work........1998-12-05

Here is the voice of Jay Black far out playing the song content of this album. Most of the songs are worth a listen if only because Jay could sing so well. As with all Jay and the Americans albums at least 50% of the songs just are not up to the talent singing them. I wish someone back in the 60's, 70's would have taken this group aside and let them hear how good they could sound and how bad they could sound on the same album. Jay could sing in a class with a Roy Orbison, but where was the material?
