No stranger to the realm of children's records, They Might Be Giants have seen success with their CD No! and the book-and-CD combo Bed, Bed, Bed. Their latest CD, Here Come the ABCs, offers up 25 alphabetically themed songs. However, as is their charming way, the two Johns (Flansburgh and Linnell), use the letters as merely the connective tissue, allowing them to pursuit intriguing flights of fancy that consider everything from the relative power of letters and sounds to animal hijinks. Just as they've always done, there are wistful ballads and high octane rockers. TMBG have always been a family-friendly band, and this disc works just fine for adult fans, who can rightfully consider this simply their newest release. --David Greenberger

My son of 18 months likes this. The DVD is good, the CD loses a little something since some of the songs need the visual clues (like where is the letter). My wife just finds it strange :-)

My family loves this DVD. All of the songs and accompanying animation is very creative, while teaching kids the alphabet. The songs are not annoying like some kids music, and my husband and I find ourselves going around singing the songs all the time. The CD that comes with the DVD is great for taking along in the car.

I bought "Here Come the ABC's" for a friend for her birthday after she watched it with my son. She adores the set. They Might Be Giants performs wonderfully catchy songs that are both easy to remember and challenge thinking. My son, who is 2, enjoys the puppets and the vivid and sometimes strange animation sequences. Favorite songs in our household include "Alphabet of Nations" (me), "E Eats Everything" (my son), and "Alphabet Lost and Found" (my husband). This set is one that I would recommend to anyone who interacts with young children learning to play with language. It grabs their attention, and they don't mind at all.

If you like reggae, you should have this CD. If you could only own 5 reggae CDs of all that is out there, this deserves to be one of those 5. I never tire of listening to these tracks after all these years. The other reviewers have ably described this music. I heartily agree. 5 more stars for The Harder They Come.

Still the best classic reggae collection, although as one other reviewer noted, some tracks do sound "Americanized." No surprise. "Many Rivers to Cross" and "Sitting in Limbo" were recorded with the legendary Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section in Alabama. This wasn't documented at the time (I learned it when I interviewed the MSRS in 1979) because apparently Cliff did not have the proper immigration papers to "work" in the USA when Chris Blackwell decided to bring him up for the quick sessions.

one of my favorite albums of all-time........2007-02-13

this album holds its own against the very greatest albums of any genre. even if you are not a fan of reggae, i can't imagine you not loving this cd. there is so much joy, energy, passion and soul bursting from this music that it uplifts me each time i hear it, still fresh sounding to the ears 22 years after first finding it. jimmy cliff's vocals, in particular, are amazing. the songs which he performs on this album, "you can get it if you really want," "many rivers to cross," "the harder they come," and "sitting in limbo," are amongst the finest in the whole canon of reggae. each tune included here is a gem. don't let life go by without having this music in it.

Not as reggae as I wanted.......2007-01-16

I am a bit disappointed in the CD. It doesn't seem to be REAL reggae as I think of it. It seems more like Americanized reggae. Maybe I just need to get a Marley CD. 'You Can Get It If You Really Want' sounds like a song from Sesame Street.

Only ONE thing could have made this a better CD..........2007-01-10

This awesome rock & roll album would have been even better had it included just one thing: the SINGLE version of "Free Ride", available on the "Edgar Winter Collection" from Rhino. It was the followup single to their huge hit "Frankenstein". Like Three Dog Night and a few other artists back in roughly that same time frame, a trip back into the studio was made to create even hotter versions of the songs to be played on the radio. The single version of "Free Ride" is just that much hotter, that much punchier and that much more full of life....and was a huge hit itself! One listen and you'll see what I mean. I'm not saying the album track isn't good...I'm just saying the single version just jumps right out at you, daring you to resist it. As for the rest of the album, I can't say anything that most of these other reviewers have said. One of the best of the 70s, full of great rock & roll music and a pure joy to listen to!

Monster Album!.......2006-11-26

Arguably, Edgar Winter Group's best album, this chart topper fused standard rock with `monster rock' and plenty of synthesizers. Edgar Winter and Rick Derringer cut loose with these self penned songs. "Hangin' Around" and "Alta Mira" are fun dance rock numbers that portray Winter at his best. "Free Ride" and "We All Had A Real Good Time" became FM rock standards with their `party on' style. Not to pigeon-hole themselves as purely hard rock, "Autumn" is a rare and unexpected ballad showcasing the groups songwriting skill. Of course, "Frankenstein" was the monster hit here and it combined a new found use of loud drums and maximum synthesizer along with unique guitar riffs and Winter's own splendid saxophone. It's a killer album that stands the test of time.

Remarkable! Exciting and Yet Oddly Charming.......2006-07-17

I had really ever only known about Edgar Winter from their occasional spots on classic rock radio, with their tunes Frankenstein and Free Ride, never really thinking about what other type of music they made and shrugged them off as no more than a one-hit wonder.

But one I picked up the album about six months back and have listened to it probably fifty times through. It is very hard for myself to start playing it and switch to something out on my playlist without listening to it in its entirety. While none of the songs in my mind (except for Frankenstein) truly stick out (which is possibly why it is not more well known,) the album gels together as a whole so well that few albums match it in terms of pure consistency.

While many of the songs seem simple in appearance, the instrumentation, the dynamics, and the full-blown singing of the more uptempo songs give a level of sophistication, yet remarkable, fun sound to each and every song, all the while staying unique from every other. Added to this, is the even more surprising fact that the two love songs, Round and Round, and Autumn, are two of the most beautiful songs to ever come out of a rock album, let alone a hard rock one.

Hanging Around is one of the best openers one could ever hope to have for an album, infectious, fun, spirited, truly awesome.

When It Comes is possibly the raunchiest sounding Edgar ever sounded (if that's really him singing, I'm not really sure since it sounds as if there are nine different voices singing each of the songs with lyrics), other great, fun sounding song.

Alta Mira is very quirky, yet charming song that you can't help but sing along to. Has an almost Jamaician sound that makes it all the more infectious.

Free Ride needs no explanation, as it's impossible to live past the age of 10 and not have heard the song at least once.

Undercover Man is probably the only weak song on the album if only for the ending which I think it stretched out just a bit too long. Although, it's Edgar in very fine form in terms of loud, almost off-kilter singing.

Round & Round is possibly my favorite song on the album, with its wonderful mix and acoustic and almost country-rock sound. Beautiful.

A ridiculous change of pace from Round & Round (although that's not a bad thing.) The song is basically self-evident from the title... Rock and Roll Boogie Woogie Blues. It delivers perfectly.

Autumn, as said before, is quite possibly the most beautiful rock song I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. Beyond gorgeous.

And almost lastly, another huge change of pace with quite possibly a song that perfectly exemplifies the college spirit (woot), with We All Had a Real Good Time. If there's a better song out there that keeps the fun, youthful spirit of us kids and of the basic tenets of Rock n' Roll, I've yet to hear it.

Well, if you're not convinced, then its at the fault of this reviewer and not the album.. for it is truly one of the best hard rock has to offer. Better than anything Skynyrd or Ted Nugent or Black Sabbath or Led Zeppelin has to offer. And that's no lie. A wonderful standout from 1972 (although it's difficult for me to say that definitively, since I was -13 at the time.)

A classic Rock And Roll Masterpiece.......2006-07-07

I purchased this album only yesterday and have listened to it over and over again. This is truly one of rock's few masterpieces. Hangin around is a fun opening song. Alta Mira is a nice rock and roll song. Free Ride is great well mixed too. And who could forget Frankenstein the masterpiece of masterpieces this is the best song in the whole world. You will be happy with your purchase.

Perfect Album..............2006-03-13

About the time this record came out, but before I ever heard of it, I saw the EWG at a roller rink in Elizabeth, NJ with my friends. They opened up with "Keep Playin' That Rock and Roll" but unlike the White Trash version with horns, it was dominated by Ronnie Montrose' raunchy guitar and I fell in love. I went as soon as I could to Korvette's, where I bought most of my records in those days, to get the new LP that Edgar mentioned while on stage. I took one look at the cover and said, "What is this......" I was happy that I bought it and I still go back to it frequently. In fact, I am probably in the minority here, but "Frankenstein" is my least favorite song and I usually skip it. But listen to all the other songs, starting with "Hangin' Around" and "When it Comes" and you will be hooked quick. The slow ballad "Autumn" and the latin sounding "Alta Mira" sound different, but all the tracks add up to one of the greatest LP's ever recorded. In my opinion, Edgar Winter never reached this level again.

This set lends itself to greatly enhancing one's knowledge of the orchestra, instruments in it, and their usage. I am a huge music buff, and I still picked up a great deal I previously did not know. I highly recommend this for all who wish to understand the origin of music, as well as the processes that are employed to create music!

This CD is excellent for the beginner or expert! To be able to haear the instrumets separately and then together really provides a good education. and/or refresher. The book thaty comes with the CD is alomost worth the price by itself!

Whether you're a music novice or pro, "The instruments of the Orchestra" is a very worthwhile purchase. The 7 CDs, with a total of 8 hours, are expertly narrated by Jeremy Siepmann. He's a great speaker, very much like the late Leonard Bernstein was. Mr. Siepmann takes you on an unforgetable musical journey covering the origins and use of the various orchestral instruments throughout musical history. The balance between his narration and a wealth of musical examples, which range from snippets to entire movements, is superb. The comprehensive enclosed booklet is excellent and faithfully follows the 7 CDs in content. Even with my 40+ years of music training I still learned new things from this wonderful collection. Considering the excellence of the content, and a cost that translates to about $5 per disc, this collection is a great value. Grab it, you won't regret that you did. Five solid stars!

This boxed set of CD's with booklet achieved all I had hoped that it would. There are good samples of individual instruments and well done commentary on each. The only drawback was that some of the samples were too brief and could have been longer, hoiwever I guess this fits in with time constraints of the medium. It has given me a lot of clues as to future purchases of CD's for listening to individual instruments. Altogeth a satisfactory purchase and a welcome addition to my collection.

Excellent Intro for Those Not Familiar with the Orchestra.......2003-11-08

I've listened to classical music for years and am interested in composition. I bought this CD set to learn how an orchestra and its instruments work. I thought the CDs would be a nice but boring lecture. They aren't! Not only are they FUN but they are informative as well. I learned a huge amount from each CD and couldn't wait to listen to the next one.

The narrator and writer is a great speaker and holds your attention well. He is definitely knowledgeable. He provides musical examples for each point he makes, so you get to "hear" what he just talked about. I'd say the CDs are about 65% music and 35% narration. You'll learn about the range of instruments, some history, different ways to play them, how they sound, and how they are used in the orchestra. This CD set was a great learning experience and is sold at such a low price!

I recommend this CD for those who want to learn about classical music and those who know about it but are interested in learning more about the inner workings of an orchestra. You'll learn much useful information. For instance, the Rite of Spring (with that eerie start) is written for bassoon! I never knew a bassoon could sound like that but now I do.

The greatest songs ever?.......2007-07-26

I heard 'clear or cloudy', from this recording, on the radio recently and had to purchase it. It is strange but it is the sort of song that makes life prior to listening to it different from life after. I find it sad that so many people haven't heard it. There are also many other wonderful works in this collection. Given you get twelve well recorded CDs with top quality performances, this has to be one of the bargains of the age.

A musical treasure-box.......2006-09-10

Both the music and this actual product are masterpieces. John Dowland's collected works here - covering 12 compact discs - exhibit the depth and power of this composer, a composer who many now regard as suffering from clinical depression. I doubt that the issue of the diagnosis of Dowland's depression can ever be settled, however, it is certainly obvious from his music, so completely on display here, that he was a man with very dark depths and corners in his mind. Dowland's various manifestations and "takes" on his own tune, "Flow my tears"/"Lachrimae" are here. This tune has haunted me ever since I first heard it when I was a child. It seems to sum up Dowland's feelings - at least Dowland seems to have thought so.

The First, Second, Third and Fourth Bookes of Songes, A Musicall Banquet, the keyboard transcriptions, all the lute music, consort music are here and virtually everything else written or supposedly written by John Dowland. Anthony Rooley and The Consort of Musicke perform this music with style and feeling throughout. This 12 CD set is something of a monument to the ensemble - I only wish they'd finished their collection of Monteverdi madrigals, which was equally good (La Venexiana are currently doing a magnificent job of recording all Monteverdi's books of madrigals for the GLOSSA label).

This is an expensive set, however, you will probably never need to buy another John Dowland CD again after buying and listening to this collection.

I bought this CD set on a mild Summer evening of 1998 and listened to it while sitting in my sun room - which a glorious orange sunset in progress, and a glass of wine. It brought back so many memories.

a beautiful journey into melancholy.......2001-06-15

I'm amazed at how many people tend to associate John Dowland's music with a tragic sense of drama. While no doubt this is art highly based on sadness, the "tragic" sense of it is more a legacy from the Romantic period. During the Renaissance, however, sadness was undestood as a very aesthetic way of approaching life. That is also the reason why Shakespeare's tragedies appear more sophisticated than his comedies.

Great Album, but not twice as good as the original.......2006-10-04

It has been well documentated that the originial soundtrack is one of the greatest and most influencual reggae albums of all time. An amazing mix that was put together is a weekend. When the deluxe version came out I was extremely excited that one of the great albums of all time had doubled in size. While the second CD is very good I realize now that my expectations were a little high. If you do not own the original, get this album. If you own the original think about buying some contributors cd's directly like Toot & The Maytalls.

Double the reggae essentialness.......2006-03-04

The original version of this film soundtrack is the single most influential reggae album in the genre's history, and the most listenable reggae record from beginning to end. That's always been a bit surprising, given that the film's director selected the tracks in a harried weekend of picking-and-choosing among songs that struck a personal resonance. It's doubly amazing that the songs fit the film so perfectly, and that Chris Blackwell was able to weave the tracks from various artists into such a perfect, cohesive album. This is the essential introduction to reggae music, and a collection whose spirit and musicality simply never ceases to amaze.

Hip-O's 2-CD deluxe reissue couldn't really double the magic of the album's original dozen tracks, but the eighteen additions do help flesh out reggae's 1968-72 period. Highlights include Desmond Dekkar's anthemic "Israelites," Johnny Nash's pop-crossover "I Can See Clearly Now" (as well as his take of Bob Marley's "Guava Jelly"), the Maytals' biographical "54-46 (That's My Number)" (as well as their catchy sing-along "Pomp & Pride"), The Melodians soulful "Sweet Sensastion," and Jimmy Cliff's alternate take, "The Bigger They Come The Harder They Fall."

The packaging includes song lyrics, notes from director Perry Henzell and producer Chris Blackwell, and liners from reggae writer David Katz. The sound quality is sharp throughout. The deluxe edition is a bit pricey as an introduction (especially considering the nice-pricing of the original single disc), but worthwhile for anyone who's loved the original vinyl to death. The First Album to Set the Stage For Reggae.......2004-12-01

While Bob Marley & the Wailers put the reggae genre at large in the mainstream of music, Jimmy Cliff's "The Harder They Come" set the stage for Marley in 1972, creating America's first real cult-following of the Jamaican music with songs like Jimmy Cliff's title track, "The Harder They Come," and "Many Rivers to Cross".

The original soundtrack featured featured five songs by Jimmy Cliff from the film in which he played the lead role along with other songs by Toots & the Maytals, Desmond Dekker, the Melodians, and Scotty with songs like "Pressure Drop," "007 (Shanty Town)," "Rivers of Babylon," and "Draw Your Breaks". The soundtrack showed reggae at its finest from 1967-1972.

The deluxe edition offers plenty of bonus material from many of the same artists on the original soundtrack and other artists as well, such as Eric Donaldson, Johnny Nash, Dave & Ansel Collins, and the Ethiopians. "The Harder They Come" set the stage for reggae in America, so if you want to find out where it all began, purchase the deluxe edition of "The Harder They Come," a crucial addition to any reggae collection.

Best of Episodes IV - VI.......2007-05-16

It has been said before -- if you want the best all on one CD, then this is the best sampler to get.

Conducted by the Skywalker Symphony Orchestra, there shines through an obvious love of the material being played. These are among the best versions I've ever heard of these songs and the production quality is first rate.

My only slight niggle would be that at times, the horn section seem to come through a little too strong, but that might just be my tastes and my sound system. And it is not enough to keep me from giving it 5 stars. All the best from 3 of the best movie soundtracks in the past 30 years.

This is a great representation of the excellent music Williams wrote for the original trilogy. Many of these tracks are completely fantastic. There are a couple of tracks that I wouldn't have added to this compilation in favor of adding others (the sand people track is pretty boring) and the cantina music ends with some really weird sounding synth effects or something, but the rest of the album is great. I'd give it 4 1/2 if I could.

Lo primero que llama la atencion es la orquesta, es un conjunto selecto de interpretes de Los angeles, San francisco y otros que reunidos forman esta Skywalker Symphony Orchestra que instalada en el rancho de george lucas se dio la tarea de registrar este conjunto de temas de Star Wars.
Y el resultado es esplendido hay que decirlo, el sonido es excelente, existe gran fiato y la orquesta suena grandiosa.
La seleccion esta bien hecha, como es una grabacion de 1991 se obto por recordar lo mejor y grandes momentos, asi no podia dejarse de lado la musica de la cantina una pieza exquicita que se le agrego algunos toques con sintetizadores y suena increible. Esta parades of Ewoks y little people que son muy entretenidas llenas de un encanto casi infantil, nada que comentar respecto de los temas inolvidables de la princesa Leia, de Yoda y el de Luke y Leia, hermosos, la cautivante marcha imperial y la apoteosis de la batalla en los bosques de Endor. Ademas la voragine de campo de asteroides y here they come!, y el exquisito solo de tuba en Jabba the hutt. Para finalizar el principio y el fin, el tema principal es sin lugar a dudas una pieza que no podra ser igualada, increible, y para finalizar throne room en una presentacion incomparable.
Es un CD grandioso, que hace Williams mejor director junto aun grupo grandioso de interpretes para una seleccion sin igual.

Star Wars Music Sampler.......2003-07-12

The Star Wars Trilogy: John Williams Conducts John Williams is a 13-track "sampler" of selected orchestral arrangements from the 1977-83 "Classic" Episodes of George Lucas' space opera set "a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away." Not to be confused with either the Varese Sarabande 1983 recording with a similar title, this 1990 Sony Classical offering showcases the Skywalker Symphony Orchestra under the direction of the composer.

While none of the material here is surprising - we HAVE heard all these themes before in the London Symphony Orchestra-performed original soundtracks in their various incarnations - the Skywalker Symphony (a group of talented musicians assembled especially for this performance) performs Williams' concert hall arrangements with clarity and love for the material. There was also an attempt to add more variety to the 13 tracks to further avoid confusion with the other "Star Wars Trilogy" single CD collection. The Cantina Band (that jazzy Benny Goodman style bauble from Star Wars) and the bouncy The Little People are here, as well as the more "traditional" Main Title, Princess Leia's Theme, Yoda's Theme, and the famous Imperial March (Darth Vader's Theme). Particularly impressive is the concert hall arrangement of The Throne Room/Finale, which is very different from the film version.

While I prefer the individual film scores from either the Soundtrack Anthology or the Special Edition collections, for listeners on the go, younger music lovers, or newcomers to John Williams' music, The Star Wars Trilogy: John Williams Conducts John Williams is still worth a listen.

That's right. When it ends, you just want more, and more.

I gave it a 4 stars rating, only because of this. I have all the music from Star Wars, and definitely I think it's a crime to make a compilation from such a terrific soundtrack. You MUST have the entire score.

However, if you can only get this one (as it was my case around 10 years ago), it is an excellent example. For a limited space, I would have chosen the same themes.

I must add, to the praises above, that Kathleen Battle's "Lord, How Come Me Here" is the best "quick" explanation of the long-lasting effects of slavery that I can think of. The line, "They sold my children away," says it all.

And the VERY funny "Scandelize My Name" is also worth the price of the total album!

You know, after owning both the CD and VHS of this performance, and having been coached by Sylvia Olden Lee herself, it is no wonder why spiritual mean so much to me. And these two ladies bare their souls and bring these masterpieces to life! WOW!!!

Clearly you are mistaken. I don't know who that guy is-the person below recommended-but there is NO COMPARISON to JESSYE NORMAN AND KATHLEEN BATTLE!!!! Jessye Norman herself has *30* HONARY DOCTRATES from places like Harvard, Juliard, Yale, Cambridge....I mean HELLO!!!! That guy had no where near the ease, the musicality or even the breath support as these two veterans show!! It is a beautiful CD though it came out in 1991 and I HIGHLY recommend it.

I'm going to be the dissenting voice here: thank goodness I signed this disk out of the public library 'cause I'm sure not going to listen to it twice.

There is nothing wrong with the performances. Jessye Norman and Kathleen Battle sing beautifully, and there's no problem with the pick-up orchestra under James Levine.

The problem, and it's huge, is the conception of the show and the musical arrangements. To make the video marketable, I suppose, the producers decided that the concert had to be big: big names, big arrangements, big effects. So we have eighteen spirituals given the musical theatre treatment, with a philharmonic chorus providing chain-gang sound effects, big brass, and big percussion -- including a chinese gong. A chinese gong in a spiritual??? Spare me! Almost every track turns out sounding like either a curtain-raiser or a big, end-of-act production number with cute and predictable modulations between some of the stanzas and the sort of curly-cue orchestral ornamentation typical of Broadway shows.

And you know what? It all kills the spirituals stone dead. The spiritual is one of those musical forms where less is more and very little is best of all. That's how they started, after all. That's how and why they worked for their original audiences, and that's why they were powerful enough to make the transition from folk song to art song. If you want to hear Battle sing spirituals that are irresistible, listen to the set on her Salzburg recital CD, also with Levine (ASIN B00000E31B). There, the music speaks for itself and speaks with a strength and a beauty that the tracks on this disk never approach.

2007 two-fer from the Rock great features two of his classic '70s albums on one disc. They Only Come Out At Night (1972) will forever be remembered for spawning the huge hit singles 'Frankenstein' and 'Free Ride', but there's plenty more to appreciate on this stellar release. From 'Hangin' Around', to the pretty melodies of 'Round & Around' and 'Autumn', the set collects ten outstanding cuts, played with fervor by Edgar Winter, Chuck Ruff, Dan Hartman, Randy Jo Hobbs and Ronnie Montrose, along with guest artist/producer Rick Derringer. Beginning with 1974's Shock Treatment's answer to the previous album's 'Hangin' Around', 'Some Kinda Animal', the band moves into the excellent blues torcher 'Easy Street', which is painted with highlights from the substantial saxophone talent of Winter, not to mention some of his finest singing. "They Only Come Out at Night" Established the Younger of the Brothers from Beaumont, Texas on the Pop Charts with the Hit Singles "Free Ride" and the Instrumental "Frankenstein". With Fellow Band Members Randy Jo Hobbs, Dan Hartman and Ronnie Montrose, (And Rick Derringer in the Producer's Chair) the Classic Lineup of the Group Conquered Radio and Records after Many Years. By the Time "Shock Treatment" Appeared in 1974, Montrose Had Departed to Start his Own Band and Derringer Stepped Up to the Guitarist's Position (Jimmy Iovine also Sat in the Engineer's Chair). CD Versions of "Shock Treatment" Had Long Since Lapsed Out of Print and this Release More Than Remedies that Deficit!

These albums made Edgar Winter a star, even though much of their success was due to the late Dan Hartman. The first hit off of "They Only Come Out At Night" was Winter's rocker "Frankenstein" which caused many to assume that the album was a "heavy" rock album. But the album has a wide variety of rock, blues, pop, and even country ("Round and Round" should have been a country hit). Also includes the hit "Free Ride" and minor hit "Hangin Around." Not a bad song on it. The only bad thing about the album is the cover. I really don't care for seeing Edgar Winter in drag. I remember many record stores used to display the back cover because many people found the front offensive. It probably hurt sales. But the music is great!

"Shock Treatment" was an outstanding follow-up. Rick Derringer replaces Ronnie Montrose on guitar, but does not contribute any songs or lead vocals. It is classic rock / pop at its finest. It includes the top 40 hit "River's Risin'" but several other songs received air-play and should have been big hits, including: "Easy Street", "Maybe Someday You'll Call My Name", and "Sundown." Not a bad song on it. The late Dan Hartman really shines on this album. His songs were more commercial than Winter's. He should have received equal billing in this group. Highly recommended!

The British Label Gott Discs releases The Edgar Winter Group's two albums "They Only Come Out At Night" and "Shock Treatment" on one disc and remastered too! I have to admit I only bought this disc for 1972's "They Only Come Out At Night" as it was a landmark album for Edgar in not only was it a masterpiece of rock & pop but also had some of the finest musicians around including Ronnie Montrose on guitar and Dan Hartman on bass/vocals and of course Edgar on keyboards/sax and vocals. The album produced one massive hit in "Frankenstein", a five minute synthesizer based instrumental loaded with special effects thrown in for good measure. The followup hit "Free Ride" is a hook ridden pop rock lover's delight with Dan Hartman doing the vocals. But the album also included other excellent songs as well such as "Hangin' Around", "Round & Round", "We All Had A Real Good Time" plus more. The following album "Shock Treatment" released in 1974 while disappointing when comepared to "They Only Come Out At Night" still featured a number of catchy tunes such as the hit "River's Risin'" as well as the jazzy "Easy Street", "Rock & Roll Woman" and "Someone Take My Heart Away". Member changes include of the addition of longtime guitar wiz/artist/producer Rick Derringer who replaced Ronnie Montrose who left to form his own band "Montrose". Derringer's addition to the band was an asset as not only does he sing on numerous tracks but his lead guitar riffs are always amazing. The sound quality of this disc is excellent due to remastering and blows the ancient American non-remastered versions of these cd's away (the later now OOP). A must have for classic rock collectors!
