Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Bill Perry rocks........2004-11-25

Let me start by saying Bill Perry is one of the best kept secrets in the music business. Saw him recently, live and he rocks. Took the wife with me and now she's a fan,in fact had a hard time getting this album away from the wife. Raw Deal was produced by Poppa Chubby, in fact he co-wrote a couple of the songs. There are a few slightly weak tracks, but overall a fine effort. Live On is an unusually mellow song for Bill but, it's the best cut, I mean this song is EXCELLANT. Also Bluesman, Big ASS Green Van and Till The Money Runs Out are all good tracks. This man can play guitar and is particularly impressive along with his band live. Bill's growling vocals are definitley in tune with his music. If you like passionate blues guitar playing with a classic rock edge then check out some of Bill Perry's work, it's some of the best out there. Also recomend Fire It Up, it's my favorite Bill Perry album.

3 out of 5 stars Nice Dylan cover..........2004-11-20

I haven't had the pleasure of listening to the rest of the album, but I have heard Bills Version of "Gonna haveta serve somebody" on WBGO multiple times and liked it immensely. If the rest is as good as the cover, its well worth the buy.
Will say I like hearing Bill live more than in-studio, saw him play up in Goshen NY a while back, he rocked the house!

2 out of 5 stars Disappointing Blues !.......2004-10-07

Sorry, Bill!
Poor lyrics and only fair production have made this a most disappointing purchase. The guitar playing is adequate, but not good enough to save this material. I hope Bill spends a little more time on the thought process before bringing out his next material.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Blues Rock .......2004-10-02

If you are longing for crunchy guitar riffs from the late 60's/early 70's and out front lead guitar, this CD is for you. I have all of Bill Perry's CDs and like this one best.

    5 out of 5 stars Here's the deal...get a copy of this cool soundtrack.......2001-11-02

It's hard to imagine who wouldn't like this movie. You've got great shootout sequences, funny lines, a great story....oh yeah, and that big Arnold character is in the middle somewhere. This is one of my favorite movies of all time, and what makes it the best is this soundtrack. From the tight opening "Brains and Trains", the cool "Kaminski Stomps", the tense "Lamanski Chase", and the killer "Magic or Magnets" you're dealing with a classic soundtrack. The only thing I thought was silly about it, is that half of the tracks are out of order. I thought they should have run in the order they appear in the movie. But all in all this is a perfect score for a perfect movie.

3 out of 5 stars Fairly good score for a dodgy movie.......1999-11-21

Back in good old 1986 when I walked out of Raw Deal at the cinema in its opening half hour, the only thing I wasn't shaking my head about was the groovy score. Although Raw Deal was a shocking film, some of the tracks on this CD are fairly good listening material. I can't believe that Cinemascore (who the hell are they?) were able to be inspired to create such a powerful and chromatic score from what would have been a seemingly pointless film. Highlight track is "Harry Shot", although its upbeat theme with lively guitars and horns does not quite match the scene considering Arnie's friend has just been gunned down. The length of the soundtrack is a little dissapointing - Overall a good (but not great) score to an awful film.

    Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Texas troubadour electrified on stage.......2005-07-15

Like many of Texas' musical troubadours, Deal's songs shine even more brightly in live performance than in the studio. Endless tours of the Lone Star state have not only honed the drama of Deal's presentation, but they've formed a Saturday-night bond with his audience, evidenced most clearly on this latest live recording. The craft of Deal's songs shines brightly in this live setting, with phrase making ("I'm tired of smelling like diesel / I'm tired of dodging the scales / I'm tired of nothing to show for the miles / Just the grease under my fingernails") that's as descriptive as ever. What sets this apart from his studio efforts is the lifting of words from the page and their transformation into experiences and parables shared with friends as stories of joy, despair and warning. Deal's band follows along, electrifying their country roots with a live energy that lights up the Denton, Texas venue.

The set list draws heavily from Deal's two most immediate previous, "The Lawless" and "Kiss on the Breeze," and mixes in a couple of tracks from his earlier "Honky Tonks 'n' Churches." Aside from reprising a cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Mississippi Kid," these are all Deal's tunes. And fine tunes they are - Springsteen-esque story-portraits that are more West Texas grit than New Jersey urbana, with obvious nods to Earle and the Van Zandts (Townes and Ronnie). Two new studio tracks, "Hard Times" and "I've Got to Believe," foreshadow another fine set for his next release. Those who can't get to a Texas dancehall for a Saturday night of music, dancing and beer can get a great idea of what all the fuss is about right here on Deal's live offering.

      5 out of 5 stars 1977 at its "pureist".......2005-08-08

Everyone knows about "Never Mind the Bollocks", "The Clash" and "Damned Damned Damned". Those are all great albums but this obscure comp (actually released in 77) displayes UK First Wave punk at its rawest and most pure! NO wasted tracks here with band who never went anywhere (although one of the Killjoys went on to form DExy's Midnight Runners). My favoritea are "move on" and that Motown cover ""get moving". This is NOT easy to find- in fact the new CD is probably now as rare as an original LP! Grab it while you can!

The artists on this album (DJs and vocalists and instrumentalists) are all sterling. I particularly love hearing Loleata Holloway's mature, deeper voice (when comapred with her vocals one finds on Larry Levan mixes).

This album is a must for anyone who likes

        'Nu-Jazz'
        Electro

This album typifies how House should be made, and what it should be constituted by.
