About the Artist
MASTERS and COMMANDERS features appearances by STREET LEGACY artists: Marc May, Live One, Genghis, Massysah, and Murdor (One). They receive lyrical assistance from the likes of V.I.T.O., Nigel Flows, Vega, and Corleyone.

MARC MAY (a.k.a. Slim May) possesses an energetic flow. Very versatile, he switches easily from Lover to Pimp Mode to Mid West Flow to Lyrical Monster. He adapts easily to beats, changing the tempo and overall direction of songs with his rapid fire delivery.

LIVE ONE brings a youthful enthusiasm to the game. He's hooked on punch lines. One half of the sometime rap duo "The Ones," Live invites the listener to "...roll with the top gun/Every rhyme that [he] writes is a hot one."(from the song "Starr Gazing")

GENGHIS is the mouth piece of STREET LEGACY. He has many aliases, among them "Mean Joe Green" and "The General." His prolific street background, highlighted by his adolescent stints in the Belly of the Beast, forms the back drop for his lyrics. His spirituality is an out growth of both his maturity and re-direction.

MASSYAH (a.k.a. Face-God the Massyah) is the prophet and the prophecy. His words hold the listener captive; his energy and passion invite you to engage in a heart to heart. Born Brandon Holder in Southside Jamaica Queens, his (Street) Legacy was always being "New in Town." Massyah’s nomadic childhood in Queens, New York began at the equality age (6 years old). He bounced from Far Rockaway to Corona to his current resting place, Lefrak City, which has produced rappers Akinyele and Noreaga, among others.

MURDOR (ONE) is confident, cocky, young and brash. He possesses a laid back flow, but you still can't help but feel his presence. He paints sometimes harsh (as his name implies) but beautiful pictures. He is the other half of the duo "The Ones". His stories are much older than his age (19).

MASTERS AND COMMANDERS is the debut release from STREET LEGACY, a New York City based record label. The album introduces The Street Legacy Family to the world. Four of the five rappers hail from Queens, New York (the fifth resides in Brooklyn, New York).

Since the release of this original album, Street Legacy has already released a second album, a promotional Mix-CD, featuring their artists. The Legacy Family is on the grind, having already thrown a highly successful album release party--attended by 500 strong--in New York City in May, 2002.

The Legacy artists have also gotten airplay and interviews on local radio shows in New York: The Midnight Mixtape Show 103.1 FM and WGBB Radio 1240AM. In addition to performing at several venues throughout the tri-state area, the artists are slated to perform at "Uncle Ralph's (Video Music Box) Block Party" in Brooklyn, New York, on Sat.     Album Description

    Masters and Commanders, the newest release by Erich Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra on the Grammy Award-winning Telarc label, is a swashbuckling musical portrait of valiant seamen, tempestuous captains, eccentric pirates, pious pilgrims and more. The new recording includes selections from classic films such as Captain Blood, Sea Hawk, Mutiny on the Bounty, The Buccaneer and Plymouth Adventure, as well as the recent Pirates of the Caribbean movies and Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World.

    Highlights from Masters and Commanders include Academy Award-winning composer Erich Wolfgang Korngold's Captain Blood Overture and Suite from Sea Hawk. Captain Blood, which was the legendary actor Errol Flynn's first starring role, also was Korngold's first original film score. Korngold's evocative cinematic scores set a benchmark for numerous film composers who followed, including John Debney, whose score for the 1995 film, Cutthroat Island, was dedicated in part to Korngold and Miklós Rózsa. The end title from Cutthroat Island is heard on Masters and Commanders, as well as Morton Gould's Main Title from Windjammer and Henry Mancini's "Arctic Whale Hunt" from The White Dawn.

    Miklós Rózsa, of Ben-Hur fame, composed "The Mayflower" for the film, Plymouth Adventure, in 1952. Franz Waxman's film music is represented with the Overture to Anne of the Indies and Suite from Captains Courageous.

    Hans Zimmer, considered a worthy successor to Korngold's symphonic idiom, scored big with Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and the earlier Crimson Tide, both of which are represented on Masters and Commanders. Three selections from Klaus Badelt's score from Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, also are included.

    The recording also includes music by Elmer Bernstein (selections from The Buccaneer); Alfred Newman ("Conquest" from Captain from Castile); and Bronislau Kaper (Main Title from Mutiny on the Bounty). A Richard Tognetti arrangement of Luigi Boccherini's Los Manolos is included from Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, the 2003 film starring Russell Crowe.
