Just like the character "Goldie" from an old 70's movie "The Mack", rapper Goldy (aka Mhisani) lays down his pimp game on his 1994 album "Goldy In the Land Of Funk". I haven't heard too much from Goldy, but he made a few notable guest appearances such as "The Dangerous Crew" on Too Short's "Get In Where You Fit In" album. He also appearaed on Ant Banks "Parlayin'", both classic songs from classic albums and I recommend that you check them out. From those two songs, I find his flow to be amazing, and it really shows on this album.

As for his album, the production is within The Dangerous Crew fam, so you can expect how funky the album to sound like. Most of Goldy's rhymes are about pimpin and sex in the city of Oakland. It starts off with the first track, "Town Put Goldy On Top", as the song showcases Goldy's smooth flow. The next song is, I believe, the album's lead single "The Game Is Sold Not Told", and features Too Short. Personally I like the radio edit of the song better in comparison to that and the one on this album (you can hear the edit of the song as well as watch the music video on Too Short's "Born To Mack: Most Dangerous Videos" DVD). Another standout is the long and intensive track "Prostitute" as Goldy describes what prostitutes do over a funky beat. "You Gotta Come Home" and "Whipped Cream, Nuts, and Cherries" are more songs about pimping. The engergetic track "F The World" closes off the album.

Guest appearances are great as well. "Never That" feaures Ant Banks, Bad-N-Fluenz, and Pee Wee. Ant Banks also makes another appearance on the track "Baby By A Dog" another song about their experiences with females.

Overall, "Goldy In The Land Of Funk" is a great album. If you're a fan of Too Short when he rhymes about women, you will like this album. It's a shame that this album was slept on. From what I understood, Jive didn't promote this album very well. Goldy's flow and story telling rhymes about pimping could have easily been one of the best of 1994 and one of the best from Oakland. It sucks that this is out of print, and it's being sold at high prices. You shouldn't pay no more than $25 for this album, or you can be like me and download it legally for a cheaper price. Either way, if you're a fan of west coast rap, I recommend you add this to your collection.

I think Goldy recorded an album back in 1992 under the name Mhisani, but don't quote me on that.

This album is tight. The production is nicely done. Its ant banks on the boards, so you know what it would sound like. But the rhyming is good too. The funny thing is, goldy sounds like ant banks but more lively with harder rhymes. This is a heavy album if you like dangerous crew s#it. This one has more funk and harder rhymes by goldy. I think he sounds better than banks and short too. I like goldy, rappin' ron & ant diddley dog most out of dangerous, i think they are the tightest. I think this will be hard to get soon too, so you should get it quick if you don't want to miss this classic. Otherwise them fa@@ots will try and charge you something like $500 for a CD because it's the last one left. Peace!

This was goldy's first and last cd featuring too short, ant banks, bad n fluentz, pee wee. This is a whole funkdafied cd and like most west coast acts goldy samples and dedicates his work to the p funk and gives a shout out to the original funkateers.

first time i heard goldy was in 95 and now T.Short needs to get goldy on top again since shorts back in the game again.

Funkiest Band, Indeed..........2003-04-18

I'm a little wary of the Laser Light series, but I saw this cd as a close out at Tower Records. I think it was 5 or 6 dollars. Man, am I glad I picked it up. It's hot. If you enjoy Maceo Parker style funk/jazz you'll love it. I've picked up a couple other Jimmy McGriff cds but this is still the first one I reach for...
