5 out of 5 stars Boobs, babes, and bad guys!!.......2006-12-30

Hahahaha,
Oh, Riggs. What the hell? I bought this album strictly for the reason Zombie wasn't in it (sorry Rob). Shadowing the footsteps of the great white zombie himself, SOTE, freaking tripped over its own feet... So I know what your thinking, why the hell did you buy it if it isn't that great. Well kids, that's what I do! I buy crap! Then I come here to write about everything that doesn't have to do with it, and basically tell you to check it out for yourself, so you don't have to follow everyone else, and can stand up, grow some balls and make your own decisions rather then reading what everyone else says and decide after that. I mean come-on, how are you ever going to like or dislike things, if you're constantly taking someone else's opinion rather then finding out for yourself? (Slowly stepping down off soapbox) Seriously folks, I pop this CD in every now and then to get a little something different. How different you may ask? Well, listen for yourself. Better then any of Zombie albums?? Nah. How about better then the NEW Zombie album? Nope. So what then? Just a little change of pace, that's all. Think of it on the lines of Blood... Different people same blood. Different bands... Same sound... And to me. It's all GROOVY.

5 out of 5 stars not zombie----still very good.......2006-08-31

A very good album. 2 songs are slow, but over all very good.

3 out of 5 stars Cool, a new Zombie album. No wait a minute........2006-07-19

Well the ghouls have moved on without their master. Scum of the Earth is basically Rob Zombie's old band, and the question being has Riggs and the Tempstra brothers produced a good album? My answer is yes, for the most part. I'm not really sure why they left Zombie. From what people have said they basically got tired of waiting for Rob to finish with his directing work and they decided to move on with their own band. Can't say I blame them

At first glance the artwork on the album cover looks just like a Rob Zombie record. Then one turns the album over and the song titles look just like songs from a Zombie album. Moreover, when the cd is played I had to double-check the band listing because at first I thought I was hearing Rob singing. No actually Riggs is on lead vocals, well he certainly learned a lot from his old partner. As whole I enjoyed this album. I have been a fan of Rob Zombie for years, so I do think this record rocks. With that being said, it's biggest flaw, but yet it's strength is the album sounds too much like Zombie's work. If one is a fan of Rob Zombie's music he or she should enjoy this record.

Because of the record's close similarity to the other Zombie releases one has to compare the two. Which brings me to the conclusion that it is not as strong as most of Rob or White Zombie's work, maybe except for "Educated Horses". This not to say it's not good. This album does continue more in theme of "Sinister Urge" and "Hellybilly" Deluxe than "Educated Horses". In my opinion I don't like either album more than the other. They both have their strong and weak points. Actually, if one combined the best aspects from both, there would be one heck of strong album. This tells me that Riggs played a bigger part in Zombie's music than I thought and the two need to reunite! Only time will tell.

5 out of 5 stars just what i was looking for.......2006-04-13

after being disappointed with that new zombie album someone pointed me in this direction and my god this is what i've been looking for. there's like 2 tracks i don't like (spiders track >_ < ) everything was the bomb. just need to work on the lyrics cause some songs can get repetative but i'd recommed it to anybody who likes old zombie

5 out of 5 stars Up the scums .......2005-09-10

Another album from an Austin band that I stumbled upon and ended up liking quite a bit. A very nice and engaging sound centered around guitars and pianos. Actually, the music contains a lot of the same sounds you would hear on a lot of mainstream radio stations. Take a little Tom Waits and mix it with some Leon Redbone and toss in a little Randy Newman. Now that has to perk your curiosity some?

        Customer Reviews:

        5 out of 5 stars A Remarkable Sophomore Recording!.......2004-05-05

As good as Katy Pfaffl's self-titled first disc was, she outdoes herself with "As She Stands." Rather than upping the production values, she strips down the sound and gives you a solid taste of what she's all about: brilliant music, evocative lyrics and great arrangements. It's raw, immediate and powerful. If you like your vocalists clear and true, Ms. Pfaffl is your songstress.

Katy has a brilliant voice and she has an amazing range... writing and performing a '70s sounding RNB song ("Goodbye"), a heart-tugging ballad ("Steady She Goes") and even orchestrating a brand new cover of a Beatles classic ("Blackbird") among the ten remarkable tracks on this disc!

Katy's band is a tremendous backup for her brilliance, and is just as much a part of the package as the vocalist herself.

        Get this album!

        5 out of 5 stars Amazing!.......2004-01-24

Katy Pfaffl is absolutely amazing. She is my vocal coach and friend, and her music, and singing are inspiring. She can REALLY sing and her music is just such a pleasure to listen to, and this is coming from someone who usually only listens to Musical Theater. Why she isn't as famous as other people is beyond me, but she is a truly wonderful talent! I reccomend this CD to ANYONE!

5 out of 5 stars Fresh, inspired, perfectly mellow.......2004-01-15

I received this CD as a gift a week ago and haven't been able to listen to anything else since. Her lyrics are captivating, her music folksy with a touch of jazz. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars "THE" METAL ALBUM OF 2002.......2002-08-26

Ex Fifth Angel/Atlantis Rising guitarist James Byrd returns under the moniker 'Byrd' for his second release in two years - ANTHEM. The album sees Byrd retain the talented line up of vocalist Michael Flatters and multi-instrumentalist Brian Hutchinson that worked to stunning effect on last years 'Flying Beyond The 9'.

'Anthem' sees the basic symphonic metal approach of 'Flying Beyond The 9 built upon with more guitars, aggression and a wider range of styles. This is one very powerful album with a production that makes everything crystal clear, bombastic and sonically pleasing.

The basic style of the album can be seen as a mix of Byrd's trademark virtuoso guitar and overall sound as heard on 'Crimes Of Virtuosity' and 'Flying Beyond The 9', but taken to the next level.

'Anthem' displays a very cohesive set of songs than all work incredibly well as one sonic movement. Yet set the cd player to random and you are guaranteed a treat wherever it stops, this album really is that good.

There are a lot of musical styles on the album which range from rampant neo-classical 'Only Love', to Deep Purple/Rainbow esque rockers 'Messages From Home', to AOR style balladry 'Some Day' . This is then completely mixed up by the Pomp attack of 'Omen', and full on metal brutality of 'Killing Machine'. There really is something for all rock fans no matter what your taste in sub genres.

On the guitar front Byrd has outdone himself again. His tone is the clearest it has been and whilst showing restraint on the solo front, there are enough fretboard adventures to please the most hardcore guitar nut.

This is album is certainly worthy of a purchase, and with the right record company promotion has the quality to see Byrd head from the underground to the major rock appeal. 'Anthem' shows that James Byrd is one of todays most talented writers and performers so do yourself a favour and check 'Anthem' out a.s.a.p.
