4 out of 5 stars great for any hip hop collection.......2006-03-23

I was attrected to the album when I saw the video on MTV back in 1996 and had to have the album..I have lost/damaged/had stolen 3 copies of this album but never hesitate to buy another copy...fu&%ed up voice or not..the man can rap

4 out of 5 stars Return of da livin dead.......2006-01-25

Return of da livin dead/ That's the best way to describe this album. Instead of the DOC surviving the car crash that took his voice, actually took his life if you hear the intro. So he comes back from the dead with the It's Funky Enough background more darksided feel to it. I wish I can see the video to this song again it was kinda funny to see DOC as a zombie.I had bought the album just for this song but the more I heard the rest it really grew on me. Another one of my favorite CD's.

5 out of 5 stars Erotic D & The D.O.C.!.......2005-12-04

After a fatal car accident in late 1989, Houston, TX native The D.O.C. has been braught to a Brand New World, which D.O.C. hooks up with another Houston native DJ, Erotic D and puts out Helter Skelter! This album is a hardcore west coast classic, that yet was denied by the media. The D.O.C. hooked up with Erotic D to remake the 1989 D.O.C.'s hit It's Funky Enough to Return Of Da Livin' Dead, and the best song on Helter Skelter is 4 My Doggz, the hardest hit by The D.O.C., and Doc hooks up with his homies from Death Row on the song .45 Automatic which features Daz, Erotic D, The Lady Of Rage & Warren G. Erotic D & D.O.C. have a track dissing on O.J. Simpson called Killa Instinc!

If you are a fan of West Coast Gangsta Rap, you'll love Helter Skelter which features artists from Erotic D, Voodoo Einstein, Eddie Griffith, Celly Cell, Daz Dillinger, Warren G, The Lady Of Rage, MC Breed, Jello Biafro, Slick Rick, Yukmouth & Lil' 1/2 Dead.

4 My Doggz Who Be Wit Me, ya'll know the best tracks are *2, 3, 4, *6, *7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, *14, 15, 16 & 17.

5 out of 5 stars Old school representer.......2005-04-02

DOC was a tight rapper in the late 80's on his first album which was letting people know that Ruthless records was in full force. He was dropping clever lines on heavy beats, sadly he was involved in a car crash which ruined his voice. In 1992 he helped to produce 'nuthing but a G thang' with the leon haywood sample for dr dre and snoop. He hardly got any credit for it as dre was into his new label and kept a lot of the money to himself. DOC kept neutral between eazy and dre but had some bad feelings about dre and snoop as time passed and he saw he got used. Now, if his voice was like before this album would be so much more and would have been well known. But sadly his voice has gone, but he still pulls it off and makes it sound good with the effort he puts in. The tracks have tight production and there is a few appearances too. Altogether it has a nice sound to it and is something I would definately recommend getting. Peace!

5 out of 5 stars Should be recognized as a classic comeback by a hip-hop hero.......2004-05-25

"Helter Skelter" got trashed by most critics when it was first released, but I always knew that it was something special. You'll never hear anything like this. Ever. D.O.C. was considered by many to be a contender for the title of "Greatest MC of All Time" after his debut album "No One Can Do It Better." Everything changed when a tragic auto accident damaged his vocal chords. Most, probably even the D.O.C. himself, thought that his career was over. In 1996 he came back with "Helter Skelter," an album about friendships torn apart by greed and the end of the world, fueled by paranoia and world-weariness. The D.O.C.'s voice now sounds like a creature from a horror movie, but that only adds to the effectiveness of the ominous theme. It was a brave thing D.O.C. did when he returned to music. He could've given up long ago(who would blame him?) or embarrassed himself with a weak album. D.O.C.'s refusal to give up make this album a sadly ignored triumph of the spirit.

Britpop. Long Awaited Year 2000 Single from their Forthcoming CD 'standing on the Shoulder of Giants'. Backed with Two Brand New Exclusive B-sides.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars One of the best Oasis singles out there!.......2006-05-15

Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants might not be a great Oasis album, but the singles released from the 2000 effort deliver.

Go Let It Out! was the first single released from Giants. The song went straight in at Number 1 in the UK Charts, while hardly appearing on the Modern Rock chart in the US. The song is heavily influenced by The Beatles' Strawberry Fields Forever with the use of a melotron. The song has a brilliant melody, and a laid back Liam vocal duty, in addition to some of Noel's nonsensical lyrics.

The b-sides are really the highlights of the single. Let's All Make Believe is one of the best ballads Oasis have ever recorded, a dark and elusive track that is quite touching in its lyrics about being friends despite a fallout (a message probably meant for Bonehead and Guigsy, as Giants was the last album they were to be a part of before quitting the band). Cigarettes in Hell is another mellow track sung by Noel.

Go let It Out is one of the best Oasis singles out there!

5 out of 5 stars Go buy this single.......2005-06-14

It is my opinion that the three songs on this single are the three best songs released during the Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants' era. There isn't a song on the 10-track album that can touch either one of these stellar b-sides. But what else would you expect from a band whose best 'album' was a b-sides compilation? While being the first, "Go Let It Out" is easily the best single, although both "Let's All Make Believe" and "(As Long As They've Got) Cigarettes In Hell" outdo it and certainly have potential to become two of your favorite Oasis tracks of all-time. No kidding.

Both b-sides are on the slow side, with Noel's voice being the focus of the songs. "Let's All Make Believe" uses its title to make some timeless lyrics, such as 'let's all make believe/that we're still friends/and we like each other', which is as pertinent as it is humorous. With "Cigarettes", Noel's voice and the title are again used to carry the song; as Noel claims 'I don't mind not goin' to heaven/as long as they've got cigarettes in hell'. Oddly enough, the best part of the song might be the sound of an igniting lighter and the fading coughs in the end.

As far as "Go Let It Out"... don't buy this single if you've only heard (and want) that one song. Start with the actual album and decide from there if you're still interested; there were a number of Oasis fans who were disappointed with Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants. In all reality, though, I listen to this single more than the album itself. So I don't see any reason why you shouldn't buy this. I got this single as part of an Oasis singles lot on an online auction site (that featured 14 other Oasis singles), and besides, maybe, the "Whatever" single, this was the best one. Go let it in.

5 out of 5 stars Great single!.......2001-06-21

This was really a perfect choice as a first single for Standing on the Shoulder of Giants. It's Oasis back in top form, with a catchy verse, solid bassline, and great production. The real gem here though is Let's All Make Believe, a haunting song that should have made the album. But then again, Oasis is just about the best b-side group out there, always packing their singles with quality extras. The Noel-song As Long As They've Got Cigarettes is less catchy but solid nonetheless, making this single a must have for fans. Great single from a great single band.

5 out of 5 stars Good stuff..........2001-01-19

I think "Go Let It Out!" was the perfect choice for a single because: 1) It's one of the best 3 songs on the album, "Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants"; and 2) It's short and catchy unlike "Gas Panic!" or "Roll It Over". It's got a good bassline (played by the chief himself, Noel Gallagher) and sing-a-long melody that sounds like a cross between classic Oasis and the Beta Band. The other two tracks are just as good as "Go Let It Out!". I think "Let's All Make Believe" is one of the band's best b-sides to date and should have made the album. It has a great verseline and builds nicely as it goes. "Cigarettes In Hell" is another top b-side which is well crafted with backward guitars and Noel's soft tender voice. In my opinion, it's one of Noel Gallagher's best vocal performances.

5 out of 5 stars man this rocks.......2000-06-19

man this is one of the best ever (cigs in hell) has awesome Guitar and is very good and the rest just rock like heck and have awesome lyrics Noel is a freakin Genius and Gem is and awesome guitar player

          5 out of 5 stars give it a shot.......2007-07-17

i recommend that people listen to this album. i am not a music critic so i don't understand the poor reviews. to me its oasis...rock'n'roll, arrogance, and tunes that blow you away. give it a shot, you won't regret it.

lastly, listen to 'do know what i mean' and you can almost feel what it's like to be a rock star. :-P

3 out of 5 stars Middling album; some really good songs [3.5 stars].......2007-06-14

Loud, noisy, cluttered, bold, ambitious, long, disjointed, inconsistent; all are words that describe Be Here Now. Oasis' third album, released while the band was arguably the most popular group in the world and on top of its game, is a mixed bag of good and bad, of clever and stupid. Unlike Definitely Maybe and What's The Story (Morning Glory), Be Here Now is not stacked with great songs. While there are flashes of brilliance, the album, as a collection of songs, is disappointing. At the risk of being cliche, it's fair to describe Be Here Now as being less than the sum of its parts.

Most of the time, I do not review albums song-by-song. But, this case warrants that kind of approach.

D'You Know What I Mean? - 5 stars! It's in-your-face, long, somewhat cluttered, arguably silly lyrically (in a few spots), but it is a top notch rock song. More than anything, this song made me a huge Oasis fan.

My Big Mouth - 3 stars. There's a nice rock feel with a big guitar sound. The lyrics certainly describe the Gallagher brothers at that time.

Magic Pie - 2.5 stars. As a big fan of Noel Gallagher as a vocalist, Magic Pie is noteworthy and somewhat enjoyable. But it might be his worst vocal work on record. It's as if he's whining and crying to the listener about...nothing. The little blooper at the end is unnecessary clutter.

Stand By Me - 3.5 stars. Despite it's boring, cliche title, it's a good song. Liam's vocal work is great and the guitar work is nice. The acoustic version is better.

I Hope, I Think, I Know - 3 stars. It has a very Oasis feel to it. It's catchy, has a nice rock pace, big guitars and OK (though hardly inspiring) lyrics. This song sounded better 10 years ago when Be Here Now was first released.

The Girl In The Dirty Shirt - 3 stars. For some reason, this song is hated. Knowing that it is about Noel's wife, Meg Matthews, wearing the same shirt for a few days while traveling with the band gives it a little bit more credibility.

Fade In-Out - 3 stars. With Johnny Depp's help - yes, the Johnny Depp - the Gallaghers unintentionally remake "Wanted Dead or Alive" (Bon Jovi.)

Don't Go Away - 3 stars. A power ballad of sorts about Peggy Gallagher's cancer battle, Don't Go Away uses every conceivable cliche. That it is about an ill mother, and not a girlfriend, rescues it. It has a nice melody and Liam does a great job vocally.

Be Here Now - 2 stars. Nothing particularly memorable about this one.

All Around The World - 4.5 stars. Perhaps trying to capture the same spirit that long, anthemic tunes like "Hey Jude" and "Bittersweet Symphony," Noel came up with one of the band's most enduring pop pieces. If you didn't pay much attention to this song - and its Yellow Submarine rip off video - 10 years ago, you've heard the chorus a million times on AT & T commercials. It's hardly high art, it says nothing of any importance and is too long, but it's catchy, a good sing-a-long song.

It's Gettin' Better (Man!!) - 2 stars. I love big guitar rock but this one just doesn't cut it. Once again, there's too much going on in the song. Credit to Noel for, again, having something positive and life-affirming to say.

All Around The World (Reprise) - 0 stars. All Around the World was long enough. Was this really necessary. It's filler. Some better work, which fortunately found their way onto singles, was cut to make room for a reprise. That is a serious strike against the album as a whole.

Be Here Now tends to be either loved or hated. Personally, I see no reason to hate it, but much of the criticism leveled against the Gallaghers for it is justified. Though not Oasis' best work, Be Here Now is worthwhile.

          4 out of 5 stars Oasis.......2007-05-13

oasis is a very talented British rock band reminds me of the early days of the British invasion of the sixties somewhat like a mix of the Beatles and the Rolling stones.Be here now by oasis,is a overall good album so if you,re into British rock? I recommend it and give it 4 stars.

1 out of 5 stars Seriously Overrated Album Turned Telephone Commercial!!!.......2007-04-02

Oasis arrogance is way out of proportion to their actual talent which is miniscule. If you want something real buy any album from The Beatles or the Beach Boys. This is music for people that get excited about strip malls.

5 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST ALBUMS OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-12-12

DON'T LISTEN TO WHAT ANYONE ELSE TELLS YOU. THIS IS OASIS'S BEST ALBUM BY FAR, AND NOT JUST THEIR BEST ALBUM, BUT ONE THE BEST ALBUMS EVER CREATED. I OWN OVER 400 CDS, AND THIS RANKS WITHIN MY TOP 10. THE DIVERSITY OF SONGS, SOUNDS, AND LYRICS. I PLAYED THIS ALBUM SO MUCH THAT I WORE MY COPY OUT AND HAD TO BUY ANOTHER. I GIVE EVERY SONG 5 STARS ON THIS ALBUM. "D' YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN" IS ONE OF THE MOST INTENSELY WELL CRAFTED SONGS EVER WRITTEN. IN MY OPINION, MORNING GLORY DOESN'T HOLD A CANDLE TO BE HERE NOW. IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO GET INTO THIS ALBUM, GO BUY IT. IT STANDS THE TEST OF TIME.
