Despite their signing to Def Jam, on Game Theory the Roots head in a direction opposite from all the trendy, commercial formulas that the label has pioneered. This is as intensely a "Roots album" as anything they've put out, the rightful sequel to their brilliant, creative Phrenology (unlike their last album, the off-balance Tipping Point. Game Theory is a dark and brooding affair, not just in Black Thought's foreboding lyricism but also in its musical textures. There's a layer of melancholia running beneath nearly every song, whether in the heavy thump of "In the Music" or the frenetic verve of "Here I Come." Track-for-track, this isn't The Roots' most scintillating collection of songs, but listened to from end-to-end, it's actually a remarkable achievement in album-making. Every song builds into the next one, and those willing to experience Game Theory as a 47-minute suite of 13 songs will be richly rewarded by how precisely the whole puzzle fits together. --Oliver WangCustomer Reviews:
Game Theory Review.......2007-07-16
The Roots' darkest offering to date........2007-06-19
Game Theory is significantly darker than the Roots' previous albums. Black Thought, who has always been a highly talented emcee, has never really expressed the more melancholic side of his mind. As someone who had his parents murdered as a child, Thought's lack of introspection on previous albums was a bit dissapointing. On Game Theory, Black Thought breaks away from his battle-rapper beginnings, and builds himself into more of an anti-hero of hip-hop. Not an anti-hero in the sense that he's the bad guy everyone wants to cheer for, but like the fictious Bruce Wayne, Black Thought has become a freedom fighter who lurks in the darkness, only emerging to protect the lives around him.
To accompany this new Black Thought, The Roots crew changes up their musical stylings a bit as well. While the jazz influences are still strong, and the band still creates some stunning melodies, the music itself is significantly more dramatic in tone. Adding haunting choruses on tracks such as Don't Feel Right and Clock With No Hands certainly adds something to the atmosphere this album creates, and the beautiful voices singing on these respective tracks certainly raise the bar even higher. The pure hip-hop soul of tracks like Long Time featuring the highly promising Peedi Crakk, or the Radiohead-sampling Atonement are also more highlights of a virtually flawless album.
Game Theory was not only one of the best hip-hop albums of 2006, but it will also be remembered for years beyond most modern hip-hop albums' sell-by-dates. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't already.

Despite having parted ways with former mentors 50 Cent and Dr. Dre, The Game's follow-up to 2005's multiplatinum The Documentary doesn't suggest he's suffered much at their absence. The same basic elements are still here: a breathtakingly cocky attitude (he repeatedly insists that he's on the same level as Jay-Z, Biggie, Nas, and 2Pac); versatile production by Just Blaze, Will.I.Am, Kanye West, Scott Storch, and others that should play well in the car, clubs, and earbuds; and an unabashed celebration of regionalism that may please those on the West Coast (though who knows how it will play elsewhere). The problem however is that Doctor's Advocate feels more like "The Documentary: Part 2" than a new effort. Though The Game's flow is sharper and more sophisticated, he still spends far too much time celebrating his greatness vis-a-vis other people, playing out this style to the point of gimmickry. That's not to say there aren't great moments. "Compton" is a rugged celebration of LA's most notorious `hood, there's some clever double entendre with "It's Okay (One Blood)," and "Scream On `Em" is as chaotic and aggressive as the name suggests. It's just that you wish The Game (at the tender age of 26) would learn to navel gaze less about his legacy and spend more time proving why he's earned such a lofty self-perception. --Oliver WangCustomer Reviews:

Beware...........2007-04-30
Kids don't need more negative stereotypes; or to hear African Americans debasing themselves and their women and devaluing human life.
And as for the explicit language, while I have zero sympathy for Don Imus, examples like those set in this CD unfortunately gave him (other "shock jock" D.J.s, and the public) the unfortunate notion that derogatory terms are nowadays okay.
I find nothing artistic, or remotely positive in these cuts--or others like them. Yuck doesn't even come close to describing how awful this is.
An Improvement Over "The Documentary" (Rating: 9 out of 10- -4.5 stars).......2007-04-15
As I said before, Game has shown improvement as a rapper. Listening to tracks like "Ol' English" and "The Doctors Advocate", Game shows that he is able to handle himself on the lyrical side of things. I really wasn't feeling the lead single "It's Okay (One Blood)" (check out the remix), but the second single "Wouldn't Get Far" is dope and features Kanye West.
Production on here is a lot better than "The Documentary". Since you know Dr. Dre isn't on here, Game enlists producers like Nottz for the bumping track "One Night". will.i.am, Dion, Scott Storch, and Just Blaze (I'll give his props in a minute), as well as others drop in and add some production for "The Doctor's Advocate".
Guest appearances are great as well. I mentioned a few guests earlier in my review, but like the song "California Vacation" which features vocals from Snoop Dogg and Xzibit. The Dogg Pound (Daz & Kurupt) do a good job on "Bang". Jamie Foxx lays down some of his R&B vocals for "Around The World". And damn, did they save the best song for last on this album. The almost nine and a half minute song "Why You Hate The Game" just blew me away, especially with that beat by Just Blaze. Nas and Marsha Ambrosius from Floetry appear on that song, and I have to say that it was amazing, that I hit the replay button on my first listen (I rarely do that on ANY CD). In fact that song alone warrants a higher score than what I was planning on giving. It's THAT good.
Although "The Doctor's Advocate" is nice, we still have some residue from the previous album. Of cource, The Game does his name dropping. I can't count how many times he mentioned Dr. Dre or "The Chronic" on this album. It doesn't affect this album as much as his first, probably because we've all gotten used to it. Also I wasn't feeling the songs "Compton" and "Lets Ride". Other than that this is one excellent album from The Game. He didn't let any distractions phaze him when he made this album. He also showed that he can carry an album without Dr. Dre's production (lets see if he can do it without Dre refrences). This is one album I can recommend to your library. The Game's sophomore album gets much props from me. If he drops more albums like this, there is no telling what he is capable of.

People learn to grow up and think for yourself. Also if you don't like The Game, don't listen to his album.

If the Game's G Unit-fueled debut--the most anticipated CD of early 2005--is supposed to be the Answer like Iverson, then what was the question? Well, when an emcee gets to rifle through 50 Cent's Rolodex to handpick top-flight producers (Timbaland, Just Blaze, Kanye West), it's a can't-miss scheme, right? In this case, uh-huh. "Westside Story" is Game's opportunity to remind crunk-come-latelys that his region is still rap relevant. On the Dr. Dre-produced "Higher," he snorts: "I got 'em (Impala's) in every color, yeah I'm a known stunna." Yep, he's rich now too and drives whips that cost more than most make in a year. It doesn't even matter much that he's a B-minus rhyme spitter, or that he spends way too much studio time name dropping. His real life 50 Cent-esque narratives (been shot and involved in "subterranean" activities) makes cuts like the introspective, Havoc-hemmed "Don't Need Your Love" with Faith Evans that much more compelling. Boasting a half-dozen plus other sure-fire hit singles, including the Kanye burner "Dreams," few albums can match up to The Documentary--the only Game in town. --Dalton HigginsAlbum Description

From Run-D.M.C.'s unlikely courtship of Aerosmith to Anthrax's union with Public Enemy, seemingly polar opposites have spawned a whole musical genre popularized by the likes of Korn, Limp Bizkit, and Kid Rock. Crazy Town's The Gift of the Game neatly slots into the rap-rock category. They obviously carry some clout, amassing an impressive guest roster for a debut album, including godfathers of the scene Red Hot Chili Peppers on stand-out track "Butterfly" and KRS-One on the storming "B-Boy 2000." As debut albums go, this is about as accomplished and cocksure as you get. --Helen MarquisCustomer Reviews:
The Secret of "Butterfly" that no one knew............2007-02-24
The awesome little bass line combo with the guitar stylings of the song sounds awesome right? One has to admit the rapping is EXTREMELY sub-par. We all know that's not why this song got popular. The first time I heard this song, I thought the groove was great and that it was just a plain well put together song with two good parts weaved together that worked perfectly: guitar and bass. It sounded really talented.
Here's the truth:
THIS SONG IS A COMPLETE COPY FROM A PART OF A RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS SONG.
That's right. Crazy Town COMPLETELY lifted the Bass and guitar part from the song "Pretty Little Ditty" by RHCP which can be found on Mother's Milk. There is only 1 note difference (I believe the rule of plagiarism is 3-5 words before it becomes stealing another's ideas) You can even hear the exact rip off from the 30 second snippet on ITunes. Go ahead! Listen to it! Look up the album "Mother's Milk" by RHCP and then the song "Pretty Little Ditty" I'm very angry that Crazy Town made so much money on a song that was based on all-out theft of talented musicians.
I had a feeling that that "crazy" bassline could only have been concocted by Flea and that only John Frusciante can create such a simplistic but heartfelt guitar part. This theft only describes the state of music today. Too bad.....Find your own talent you frauds!!!!

Silkk the Shocker isn't the most gifted of the Miller brothers (Master P and C-Murder are his siblings), either in his generic-as-they-wanna-be lyrics or in his lumpy-like-day-old-oatmeal flow. Yet the hits keep coming, as the solid if uneventful Beats by the Pound production crew provides enough bouncy loops and catchy choruses to keep Silkk's head above water. Most notable are the down-tempo stories related on "Give Me the World" and "Mama Always Told Me." But when it comes to No Limit, an ounce of bounce is worth far more than a pound of gloom; it's "I'm a Soldier," the token posse cut on the record, that achieves its purpose best. Laced with a quick-paced, raw funk, it reaffirms the universal particularities of the NL sound. --Jon CaramanicaCustomer Reviews:
More saying UHHHHH.......2007-05-14
The first song is the No Limit anthem "I'm a Soldier," where over a simple, hardcore beat, ten of the label's rappers deliver representing verses, including all three Miller brothers, Fiend, Mac, Mia X, Mystikal, and others. This is a very memorable song, showcasing exactly what made No Limit so popular during this heyday. I like the epic-sounding "Give Me the World," which showcases the ridiculous materialism of Silkk and his label, but still lyrically is pretty strong. "Throw Yo Hood Up" is a decent Snoop Dogg collaboration over a standard upbeat Beats By the Pound production. "Just Be Straight With Me" is a highlight, a catchy and fun song. On "If I Don't Gotta," Silkk and Fiend dig deep for some heartfelt lyrics, it's one of the better cuts. I find "We Can Dance" to be a little monotonous and boring. "Mama Always Told Me" is a very average No Limit song, you'll feel like you've heard it before all right. "You Ain't Gotta Lie to Kick It" is more skippable filler material. I really like the gangsta slow jam "Thug `N' Me," this is some No Limit at its finest. I really like the production and the vocals are great. "All Night" is average and forgettable. "Who Can I Trust?" is lyrically and musically one of the better songs. "It Ain't My Fault" is okay, a Mystikal appearance improves it. The catchy and upbeat "What Gangstas Do" has great vibes, it's a highlight for sure. The bouncy "Let Me Hit It" is okay, but "How Many" is an anthem, a hardcore song that despite being generic is very appealing. The last three songs are all solo cuts, the best being the deep and well-produced closer "Me and You."
"Charge It 2 da Game" is now out of print, but keep in mind that this was a #1 album less than ten years ago, so it's still pretty easy to find. I recommend this album to fans of the other No Limit material, there's some fun music here that's quite enjoyable. It's very inconsistent, but "Charge It 2 da Game" definitely has its moments.
Getting better..........2006-08-28
With all that talent in Silkk, his album is by far from flawless, tracks such as "If I don't gotta" and "How many?" are pure fillers and do nothing to enhance the album's quality. "We can dance" is a long, boring, uninspiring track that will surely put the listener rather than party. Also, The skits here are short and pointless which makes me questions why Silkk would include such material like that into his album.
Aside from all that, Silkk shows a lot of potential and no signs of slowing down.

One would think that Jadakiss's fleeing Puff Daddy's record label to renew his membership in the reputable Ruff Ryder camp (alongside talents DMX and Eve) would guarantee greater things to come. However, Kiss tha Game Goodbye exposes Jada's lyrical limitations rather than magnifying his talents. The album kicks off with the keyboard-heavy Swizz Beatz-produced "Jada's Got a Gun." The hook is sung to the tune of Aerosmith's "Janie's Got a Gun," but it's not so much the unoriginal chorus that grates on the nerves as it is Jadakiss's narrow gun-centric lyrical focus as he brags: "I got a gun wit' 200 shots / I'm the reason you moved your family to a whole new other block." Students of the rap game will get a healthy sampling of Jada's unparalleled diction and punch lines that flow over great beats supplied by A-list producers (Timbaland, Neptunes, and DJ Premier in this case). There's little diversity in his lyrics as he boasts in "I'm a Gangsta" "my bullets is bisexual cuz they hit niggas and bitches," while in the Snoop Dogg-aided "Cruisin'" where he threatens to spread "bullets around like chicken pox." "We Gonna Make It" is an obvious chartbuster despite utilizing the same music as Ras Kass did in the "Home Sweet Home" underground headbanger. Likewise, the album is worth purchasing to peep the Beanie Sigel dis track "Un-Hunh!" However, some will tire of Jada's gun-talk and serial-philandering routine. Jadakiss has claimed to be the best rapper on the scene since the Notorious B.I.G. passed away, but if he keeps this routine up it might be time to Kiss tha Fame goodbye. --Dalton HigginsCustomer Reviews:

Put Ya Hands up is obviously a shot at Jay-Z, since the beat is almost identical to his song called Do it Again (Put Ya Hands Up) and Jada tells him to put his hands down instead in this song... Also Good...

Jada's Still Got It, Even Five Years Later.......2006-03-26
Needless to say, after all the mixed reviews his solo debut got,I was kind of lirey about diving into it, being that everyone was hailing it as a disappointment (and stating that he didn't live up to his potential). After some thoro listening, and a few more years, I've come to the conclusion that his debut is pretty solid. Give or take a few tracks.
Although it is evident he tried to please everyone with this album (which is something an artist should never do), Kiss The Game Goodbye did have its shining moments. Particularly in the tracks "Keep Your Head Up" and "Feel Me" (which happens to be a skit). Those songs actually let you see a little bit of him (everyone credits Why as his only so-called poli-sci record, but Keep Your head is a much better song with an even better message).
Everybody I noticed, tends to say Jada's boring, same flow, same old subjects. However, afer a few more years and a more fine tuned ear, I just realized what a wordsmith and clever lyricist Jadakiss is. Which is exactly what Kiss The Game Goodbye is. A wordsmith's album. A lot of the stuff he says in his rhymes (and his group mates for that matter} tend to go over a lot of people's heads. Jada presents his knowledge in clever one liners or a potent verse or two, all while using his smooth, unique, raspy voice to deliver it.
Speaking of which, that's what makes Jada a shining light. His ablitiy to be a wordsmith, and his bright but smooth delivery. Unfortunately, people always seem to catch on too late. This is not to say Jada's debut didn't have its faults. Once again, he tries to reach every listener, every audience, and please everyone. Which is where he falls short at. Hopefully, with his new third album on the way, he follows his heart and not the industry formula, and make the album we all know he's capable of doing (as he says he wants to make a Hip Hop classic). But in the mean time, Kiss The Game Goodbye should tie Jada fans over until his new one.
this album is painful to listen to.......2005-12-31
Jadakiss is a played-out, over-hyped sell-out. His music has boring concepts, hooks, and rhyme-styles. As he himself said, though, "it's all about the voice". Well, your voice isn't even that original, considering that Chace Infinite of Self-Scientific has a similar sound to his voice, yet he is able to say something INTERESTING, INTELLIGENT, and POIGNENT with his, yet all Jada REALLY talks about with his is "how gangster he is" (which, he's not, or he'd be in jail), or "how he's got a gun".
Admittedly, later in his career, Jada would put out a track with some political or social weight ("WHY"), but even on it, he was outshined on a remix by EVERY OTHER RAPPER ON THE REMIX!!!. If you like Jadakiss and/or the Lox, and you KNOW you like them, then this album is going to be something you'll buy and probably love. It's the same old s#!t he's been doing before. Boring hooks, boring verses, boring concepts, boring album. If you want to hear someone with "the voice (or at least a mellow, smooth voice remniscent of Jada's)" that's actually saying something to beats that won't put you to sleep, then buy yourself a Self-Scientific album...

Pretty Good I Guess.......2007-04-26
Crooked N***a Too (remix), and Loyal To The Game (DJ Quick remix) were better though, they were more 2Pac's style
All in all, It's alright.
HOW DO U KNOW THAT?.......2007-04-01
But anyway, this release from Amaru/Interscope records really surpassed some of the Pac's after-death material that has been being released recently. While seemingly stronger than "Pac's Life" and other crap that's been coming out, it doesn't seem to surpass his own actual album when he was still alive, but then again, you have to give props to Em in creating a still dope album.
While some of the rhymes seem screwed with and Pac's voice is enhanced to say "G-Unit" and such on a certain track, Eminem's style and production is what keeps people listening...see, what most people don't know or recognize is that Shady is just as good of a producer of beats as he is and emcee.
It is definitely a much better choice than the lame and falsely-acclaimed flop, "Pac's Life".
Cameos include Eminem, G-Unit, Nate Dogg, the Outlawz, Sleepy Brown, Big Syke and many more...
Top Songs:
1.) Ghetto Gospel feat. Elton John
2.) A Crooked N***a Too
3.) Do For Love
4.) Out on Bail
5.) Black Cotton feat. Eminem, Kastro, and Young Noble

The first voice you hear on the new Snoop record is that of Master P, introducing the latest recruit to the No Limit army. It's a message, albeit a subtle one: in the team game of hip-hop, there's been a trade, and our man P gained the advantage. Da Game... is Snoop's first release on the label, and it is a No Limit release through and through--in spite of the fact that, in the context of No Limit's marketing megalopoly, Snoop's Merlot mixes poorly with the rest of the crew's Asti Spumanti. Fortunately, his flow has always been blessed with a Southern swing, and the Beats by the Pound gumbo funk is a natural for the Doggfather, even if there's little on the album that pushes the creative envelope. As for Snoop himself, he spends ample time attempting to evoke previous glories with the uninspired "Gin & Juice II" and "Still a G Thang," though his strongest moments come with Mia X on "Slow Down" and with Mystikal and C-Murder on "See Ya When I Get There," both classic No Limit material. --Jon CaramanicaCustomer Reviews:

Snoop Attempts to Resurrect Himself on No Limit With Mediocre Results.......2007-06-07
As for the songs, 'Slow Down' has a nice beat (though the lyrics leave much to be desired). 'Woof!' is fantastic, and includes Mystikal on it who adds his trademark crazy flow to it. 'Gin & Juice II' is not nearly as good as the classic we all know and love, but it's still a decent remake that is much better than track 10, 'Still a G Thang', which is a typical boring track on here. 'Tru Tank Dogs' and 'Game Of Life' have some interesting beats but only decent lyrics (it's No Limit though, so what do you expect...?). 'Dp Gangsta' is a very nice track, and the cheesy No Limit production is actually pretty nice there.
As for the rest... it's a mish-mash of the good, bad, and boring. I never cared about No Limit before and this is the only No Limit album in my collection (my friend left a Master P cd over my house once and I thought it was s**t), but this is an alright release. There's simply too much filler on it and the No Limit production sounds outdated (you can tell what year this is from). But when it's all said and done, 'Da Game Is To Be Sold, Not To Be Told' ends up being a decent listen.
Not His Worst.......2006-07-17
1. Guest appearances by the people he rapped with while on deathrow not these talentless, annoying no limit characters
2. Part of the reason some of his other albums became famous was because they were produced by Dr Dre. Dr Dre gives great beats etc and Snoop needs those.
However these tracks aren't all that bad and seeing i'm a big Snoop fan I can appreciate all his albums even though I rather Snoop Doggy Dogg. My favourite song would have to be the single "Still A G Thang" but some other good tracks are DP Gangsta, Game Of Life, Ain't Nuthin Personal, Snoop World, I Can't Take The Heat, Woof!, Gin & Juice II and Doggz Gonna Get Ya.
still ah g thang.......2005-07-22
Misleaded.......2005-05-07
I give it two stars, one for the effort with another label and another for the artwork.

After dwelling in the shadow of Dipset mentor Cam'ron, Juelz Santana comes fully into his own on his sophomore album. Lyrically, Santana still isn't as clever or charismatic as Cam, though he's got great hooks and a compelling swagger. However, he's figured out how to cut great songs. What the Game's Been Missing is stocked with some great anthems: the excitable chatter of "Mic Check," the loungey swing of "There It Go," and "Oh Yes," which rivals Cam'ron's "Oh Boy" for gleeful charm (however gimmicky). It's not as guest heavy as you'd expect, with just a few cameos, including Young Jeezy and Lil' Wayne, plus Cam of course. Especially after the disappointment of Jim Jones's previous album, Juelz is helping Dipset end on a positive note for 2005. He could still stand to upgrade his lyrical sophistication, but Santana's proving adept in using what talents he's got to full effect. --Oliver WangCustomer Reviews:

This Sophmore effort is NOT that good.......2006-07-13
This prolly was one of or the most overhyped album of '05, 'From Me To U' is much better than this and shos Juelz at his full potential....What The Games Been Missing Has its moments, after that, the album getz forgettable....
Not the best from juelz...but still pretty good.......2006-06-29
2-1/2 Stars -- Trust me the game isn't missing him..........2006-05-18
"Shottas" featuring Cam'ron and Sizzla is good for dancing too, and even though Sizzla brings a reggae feel to the song it's not anything close to that type of music. Of course everyone has already heard the anthemic "Mic Check" although for some reason it's censored on here. There's gotta be a hood song on here of course and "Whatever You Wanna Call It" doesn't fail although Hell Rell fails to impress (not that I thought he would). "Daddy" shows that Juelz has a soft side talking about what would happen if he lost his kid, and "Gone" is his strongest track lyric wise.
So after naming all those good songs why the low rating? Well, for starters this album is 76 minutes long, and with 22 tracks 5 songs doesn't cut it. "Oh Yes" was a guilty pleasure for me, but the chorus worn on me and got annoying after a while. The same goes for the constant screaming in the chorus on "Murda Murda" featuring Cam'ron.
There's plenty of filler tracks too like the ridiculous "I Am Crack", "Gangsta S**t", and "Rumble Man Rumble". And I don't know who Juelz thinks he is with his constant screaming (your not in M.O.P.) thorough the skippable "Violence".
Production fails on "Make It Work For You" with the music sounding like it was produced off a keyboard. It doesnt help that both Young Jeezy and Lil' Wayne outshine him on here too. And when I heard "Clockwork", I was like "Who wasted their time writing this?" Juelz Santana shows that he has potential but he just doesn't have what it takes to carry a whole album.
Juelz should be missing his tongue.......2006-05-09
