Young Jeezy is hardly breaking new ground in rapping endlessly about the similarities between the trap game and the rap game. He joins a distinguished line of former 'caine slangers turned MC--Scarface, Jay-Z, the Clipse, Biggie, etc. However, despite the familiarity of Jeezy's topics, this Atlanta rapper has managed to make a bi-coastal splash through the strength of his mic presence and charisma. As the stand-out member of ATL's Boyz N Tha Hood, Jeezy has distinguished himself against the field of contemporary rappers. More rugged than the Game, though not as charming as Cam'ron, Jeezy's work-horse flow and lyrics are draped into evocative street-level realism. Though the Southern influence is obvious in many of the album's bounce and crunk-influenced beats, he shows an impressive diversity of sound selection including on his current street anthems for this summer like"Trap Star," "My Hood," and the sublimely melancholy "Go Crazy." -- Oliver WangCustomer Reviews:
I luv it.......2006-12-14
Top 10 Rap Album of 2005.......2006-10-26
Something about this release.........2006-10-10
I'm a large fan of east coast hip-hop, and when it comes to subject matter, Jeezy appears to fit in with the first coast moreso than the second and third, even if it's not where he actually hails from. The majority of this album shows you exactly where Jeezy's Snowman alias comes from; it's about moving the white stuff. No, I don't mean the powdered sugar you sprinkle over your pancakes on Christmas morning, although it is something else with a powderary substance.
When it comes to hip-hop, although New York's my home for the music, I also find great comfort in good Southern albums. I'm actually quite affectionate of them; I understand that most of the south isn't full of profound lyricists, but they do the best with what God gave them. Houston's my number one spot for hot Southern artists, but Atlanta's a place I visit quite often; before Jeezy, for OutKast, Goodie Mobb, and T.I. It looks like I'll have to stop at Young Jeezy's during my time there now, too.
But what is it that seperates Jeezy from the rest of the gangstas today? What seperates him from the 50 Cents, Tony Yayos, Jim Jones, and Rick Rosses of hip-hop, and where does he succeed where these artists fail?
Personality. Charisma. Microphone presence. Things that rappers better than him lyrically don't always possess. He also has one hell of an ear for beats, and no matter how cheesy his continuous "Yeeeeeeeeeeeahs" and "Riiiiiiiiiiiights" may get, they contribute to the infectiousness of Jeezy's music.
This isn't a classic release. There are a few mishaps here and there on the album, and no matter how oddly charming Jeezy maybe, he can get on your nerves after a long period of time. Tracks that never get old(in my opinion) are cuts like "Soul Survivor," the title track, "Standing Ovation," "Trap Star," "And Then What," and "Go Crazy." This is Southern fried hip-hop with a heavy east coast influence. Jeezy isn't getting it crunk, and Jeezy isn't getting metaphysical; he's just rapping about what he knows, and that's enough to make this a quality release. Recommended to those with an open-mind.
Its alright.......2006-10-02
Terrible garbage........2006-09-04
Meanwhile, the only "music" provided is a backing track cued by some dude backstage. It makes for the most dull, predictable "concert" you'll ever see.
I can't wait until all this nonsense just disappears. In a world of common sense, these idiots would still be flipping burgers at McDonald's.

Shady Times: Invasion Part I
Manufacturer: 101 Distibution ProductGroup: Music Binding: Audio CD Similar Items:
ASIN: B000OONPC2 Release Date: 2007-04-10 |
Album Description
The Evil Genius DJ Green Lantern delivered the definitive new school street album with Shady Times Vol 1. Eminem's official DJ at the time, he sewed together a grip of exclusive freestyles, remixes and favourites from Eminem's broad catalogue, D12, G-Unit and their extended crew. This much sought after precursor to the street album movement is finally available again! As well as a huge amount of freestyles from Slim Shady and his fam, highlights include the 2003 remix of Mobb Deep's classic "Survival of the Fittest", the 8 Mile anthem "Lose Yourself" and a freestyle from Busta Rhyme's Flipmode Squad. As a bonus, Green Lantern opens the album by playing off Em and Benzino's fierce dis tracks against one another in the chronological order that they were released. This is essential material for any fan of Eminem, D12, 50 Cent or G-Unit.

Jeezy Represents Real Hip Hop.......2006-12-13
All Hype (2.5 Stars).......2006-03-09
There are probably 3 or 4 songs on the album that are good (and when I say good, I mean the beat is bangin'.....there are no memorable lyrics on this album). Actually, the singles are the highlights of the album. "Go Crazy" is cool, but the remix with Jay Z is better. "Soul Survivor" features Akon and will definitely move some butts in the club. "And Then What" feat. Mannie Fresh is cool, but loses replay value after about a week. Also, "Trap Star" is another good song if you can get past the terrible hook. Once you get past the singles, all you have left is some gangster posturing (notice how I didn't call it rapping) over good/decent production. If you're looking for dope verses, look elsewhere. The best lines on the entire album come from Young Buck (and he only has one verse) on "Last Of A Dying Breed" despite its boring beat and mailed in verses from Jeezy and Trick Daddy.
I can't blame Jeezy for cashing in on good hype. It's the American way, after all. The fact is that the beats carry this album because the guy rapping sounds like he just got into rap a week ago. This album will easily go platinum, but that's the power of good hype. The people who actually respect rap music probably won't come within 10 feet of this album anyway. When it comes down to it, I can't recommend this album to anyone.
Standout Tracks: Go Crazy, Trap Star, And then What feat. Mannie Fresh, My Hood, Soul Survivor feat. Akon
JEEZY IS THE ISH!!.......2005-08-04
* And Then What
* Tear It Up
* Last of A Dying Breed
*Soul Survivor
*Trap or Die
I think that success is in Jeezy's future. The buzz that he has right now is tremendous and I believe he will live up to the hype. This coming from an occassional rap listener.
